- maiku00, on 10/11/2007, -4/+167$1000 says you won't hear a whisper about this tonight on the news
- bhouglan, on 10/11/2007, -11/+159Government is the biggest polluter in America (Military 1st, EPA 2nd)...EPA 2nd, oh what Irony!
- jwolcott, on 10/11/2007, -1/+123I love how we only find out about these ***** 40-50 years later.
Makes you wonder what kind of ***** they're pulling RIGHT THIS MINUTE. - Rhino2, on 10/11/2007, -8/+128
In other news, Aquaman is super pissed and the Little Mermaid has been diagnosed with cancer. - Smoove, on 10/11/2007, -15/+103That's exactly why we need the government in charge of the environment, to PREVENT stuff like... oh, wait.
- ptFoe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+84I love the government and its War on Sea.
- smackywentz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+64I'm sure most of you guys are like me and are just getting tired of this. The constant scandals and evidence of corruption that comes out about the government, and then the lack of news coverage on said event. And who is to say we'd watch anyway, most Americans want to watch things like "America's Got Talent" [ad nauseum]. I don't know about any of you but I am sick of it, we are going to inherit this country long after these guys are gone, and they are ***** it all up for us. We're teetering on the edge of a second Great Depression, we're losing more and more of our men and women overseas to a war we don't support. I want to do something. There has to be a way we can change this, we're smart guys (and gals). Why can't we think up some way of changing it all? I'm tired of saying after I get out of college I'll get into politics and change it. Who knows if we have that long, I personally doubt we do. Why not right here, we use this forum, it's as good as any, to just brainstorm and think of a way to change things for the better? And ideas? Maybe I'm being too idealistic?
- earthceltic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+50You know you're "american" when this doesn't surprise you in the least...

"*opens a bottle of Poland Spring*"
You know half of bottled water is sourced from local tap water, right? It's the exact same water.
The other half is unregulated, while tap water quality is very tightly regulated. - afx1, on 10/11/2007, -2/+37look what they did to flipper: http://scienceblogs.com/deepseanews/2007/06/munitions_dumping_at_sea.php
- Nick5309, on 10/11/2007, -3/+38How ignorant can you get?! I don't know if it's dawned on you yet, but the enviroment is moderately important to our survival. You don't have to be a hippie to be concerned about not getting poisoned by what's coming out of my faucet.
Sometimes i really wonder what goes through a person's head before they post such retarded comments. - rossmcd, on 10/11/2007, -15/+45EPA is the 2nd biggest polluter in the USA? I find that hard to believe. Could you provide some links to where you got that information from?
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+30The EPA can not move against the army; it is barred from taking action against other government agencies.
- mrgeekguy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+31Well, it's only a matter of time till Godzilla destroys Tokyo now.
- theNazz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+30How is the hunt for the SOB who planted the US Army made Anthrax in DC and Florida coming along?
- obliviousfool, on 10/11/2007, -5/+30Here's another argument against a large standing army. The army creates millions of pounds of chemicals for use against no particular threat. The chemicals or delivery systems expire. The army secretly dumps them in the ocean.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+27Welcome to 90% of Americans.
- blaaguuu, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25Here's another argument for invading as many countries as we can. The army is already creating millions of pounds of chemicals for use. If we don't use them, they expire. We might as well not let them go to waste!
/sarcasm - maximusGeek, on 10/11/2007, -4/+26All the stories the links point to are dated 2001, 2004, 2005. One talked about discoveries made in the 80s. It probably wont make the news tonight.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22It's ok when America does it, they are the good guys.
- diggduggjoe, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23One way the EPA increases pollution is by claiming ownership to the air and water in order to regulate it. They often determine "safe" amounts of toxins which the average person must accept. Without such regulation fluoride, mercury, lead, asbestos and other toxic compounds would have lead to millions of lawsuits. Do not be fooled, big business loves the EPA. Yes, they have to play by some rules, but those rules are weak and able to be manipulated by lobbyists. The EPA effectively legalizes certain amounts of pollution.
- CanceledCzech, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19Yeah, that's just super. I really appreciate the cancer this will give me, thanks, guys.

I hate to sound like a pussy, or over dramatic, but that picture of that dolphin gave me chills, I just couldn't look at it. - rossmcd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20@smackywentz
The best things I can think of are:
1. get involved in your local community where you have the most power to change things
2. when important bills come up, call/write/email your elected officials and let them know how you want them to vote, and let them know that you'll be paying attention to how they do vote. - Shaggy3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Relax guys. There was probably an underwater terrorist base miles under the ocean.
- Caldunwoody, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17who authorizes this sort of thing? christ what a chemical ***** show.
- HouseofEl, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17Those aliens from the Abyss are going to be ***** pissed!
- starguy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16We've found the WMDs! They've been dumped secretly into the sea to avoid inspectors by... oh wait... *turns finger around and points at US military*
The U.S. military has been doing this crap for a long time. There is a little neighborhood in S.C. where in the 50's they tossed such crap wholesale out in the backwoods at the end of some dirt road... and 50 years later the neighborhood spawl went right over it. And everyone started dying and getting deathly sick from these nerve agents. They've been dumping this junk in the ocean a long time. Not to mention, detonating nukes in the ocean all the time with the resultant radioactive fallout. Where's it going to go? Where ever the ocean currents take it, which is everywhere.
So you go swimming on the California Coast, or down in Florida, or on the Eastern Seaboard, or take a vacation to the Bermudas. Man, look at that beautiful white sand, and crystal blue water. Now guess what's in that water that you don't see. How many parts per million of various toxic or radioactive waste is in that picture pretty water, and how many molecules of nerve agent are you getting in you everytime you (or your kid) accidentally swallow a mouth full of water. How much gets absorbed into the fish you eat, who constantly live in the water, and this stuff accumulates in their cells? einstein ~ http://anarchy-tv.com - Ncrypt, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16Anthrax attack bug "identical" to army strain at Fort Detrick.

Organize a revolution. Kill everyone in washington.
If the US were a computer i would have reformatted that ***** a long time ago.
(i;m only partly joking. With the devision and hostility going on in the population here, it makes me wonder how long this country's got before we have a second civil war. That is, so long as the participants can tear themselves away from the live CNN coverage long enough to go fight it.) - Noobuntu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Heading to the Jersey shore this summer doesn't seem very fun now...
- DDarkfire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13This is simply disgusting.
- chronusmcgee, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Typical knee-jerk reaction. The reality is, if you, as a private citizen where to dispose of something toxic enough to kill millions, yes, millions of people, you would go to jail for a very long time. But if Uncle Sam does it, its just a bureaucratic SNAFU, and nobody gets the ax.
When those canisters begin to leak their contents in to the thermo-haline conveyor (gulf current), those chemicals that are not neutralized by saltwater are going to really mess with the rest of the world. They will leak too. There is no way you can dump a metal canister in the corrosive environment of the deep sea and expect containment over a historically significant period of time.
Before the feces starts flying, the responsible parties had better go about the task of recovering and PROPERLY disposing of those items. After the cleanup is completed, everyone in the chain of command needs to go to prison, just out of principle, for jeopardizing all life on this planet. - kidd3ckz, on 10/11/2007, -8/+19@knaab
he wasn't tryin to find a link between water and terrorism you *****, he was pointing out how gullible americans are.
we're like a giant flock of sheep, and of course i say "we" meaning the majority... i don't care if you don't agree- your opinion really doesn't count. - smackywentz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11I've found that writing my elected officials does nothing but give a very generic insertnamehere letter, talking about how busy they are and how very interested they are in the subject. I guess I'm looking for a way to change things presently. Sooner rather than over time. Not saying I don't like your idea it just doesn't have a very good track record for actually working.
- correab, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10@ easy4lif
"...how the hell can you get rid of chemical weapons?"
By NOT producing them in the first place! The only purpose these weapons serve is to inflict death and destruction, pain and suffering... When will the stupid humans learn?? War is hell.. war begets war begets PROFIT: The Almighty! Unfortunately, as long as there is a dollar/euro to made, these weapons will always serve a purpose. - Renton, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12@noobuntu
Did it ever? - pagit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Now for entertainment news
53 year old monster and star of 28 films, Godzila, has come down with a rare form of testicular cancer.
" I am not sure how I got it, but my doctors think the prognosis is good" Godzilla (Gojira) said in an earlier interview today.
"Treatments have made me a little more tired and grumpy, but I'm glad my doctor caught it early with my regular rectal and prostate exams."
- diggduggjoe, on 10/11/2007, -6/+14"That's exactly why we need the government in charge of the environment, to PREVENT stuff like... oh, wait."
The worst part is without the EPA claiming they own the environment we could sue a private firm which pollutes. As for the military, being a part of the federal government, they are untouchable. - smackywentz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10There's one idea, come on people we're on a roll here.
- McGrude, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8chemically? Like by process the material into something non-poisonous using other chemical processes.
- microview2007, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I believe it. Two WestPAC cruises in the US Navy over 9 years and I witnessed, even participated in, the dumping of anything and everything off the back of an aircraft carrier.

US government defines terrorism in a very general way, so technically that probably does fall under the definition of terrorism. if lighting an SUV on fire counts as terrorism i'm pretty sure radiating thousands of sea animals counts as well - SickMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Nuclear waste can either be recycled or sealed in a glass-like solid matrix (that won't decay) and buried deep underground. Most all chemical agents can be destroyed in very expensive incinerators.
