- xekko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Pluto is an ice ball smaller than our moon with an elliptical orbit which varies between 4.3 and 7.3 billion km from the sun. It's hardly an analog for our planet.
You should stop clinging to any pseudo-science that happens to prove your point of view and look and the facts. - FairMaiden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's the President's role to help every American and to set an example to the rest of the world (as the world's only superpower). Any action doesn't have to harm the US economy, in fact if you're smart about it, the US could be a world leader by pioneering low-carbon, green technology, which could create more jobs and boost the economy further.
- Fistfuc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Is earth heating up, Yes. Is it our fault, Maybe. Should we do more, Probably. But to the people out the who fly Private jets and show no responsibly for there actions can go f-off already. I conserve, I don't litter etc etc. but don't tell we what to do or not to do.( unless you are doing it yourself) Put some incentives out there for people already. Its all about money.
- futureb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wonderful article in the atlantic monthly recently about who will profit from this phenomenon: http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200704/global-warming
three words: arctic shipping route. from the article:
"If arctic sea ice melts, shipping traffic will begin transiting the North Pole. Andrew Revkin’s 2006 book, The North Pole Was Here, profiles Pat Broe, who in 1997 bought the isolated far-north port of Churchill, Manitoba, from the Canadian government for $7. Assuming arctic ice continues to melt, the world’s cargo vessels may begin sailing due north to shave thousands of miles off their trips, and the port of Churchill may be bustling." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6What does Pluto have to do with what is happening here on Earth... do some research!
- FairMaiden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We don't have 43 years to 'fix' the problem because in 43 years it'll be too late -- no more summer ice at the north pole! Each country needs to cut carbon emissions NOW as we're currently increasing our emissions year on year rather reducing them.
- onyxraven1979, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9Buried as inaccurate until someone can explain why Pluto is warming up and why there were dairy farms on Greenland when Lief Erickson was alive but it is too cold for them today. (Hint: It has to do with the Sun...)
- onyxraven1979, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The every planet is warming up. The sun is getting hotter. It has before (Medieval Warm Period, Roman Warming) and it will again. It will also get cooler (Ice Ages and the Mini Ice Age of the 1400's). That is fact. Mount Pinatubo put more 'greenhouse' gases in the atmosphere than humans have since the Industrial Revolution. That is also fact. Sorry to burst your bubble, but try reality.
- 29Victor, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6By 2050 people will have forgotten the global warming scare just as they forgot the global cooling and overpopulation scares of a couple of decades ago.
- SwissCamel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Finally!
- bfaulk04, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Yeah, it's solely the Bush administration's fault... not people who have the means to, but refuse to, do anything about the problem on their own.
Why would anyone want to run for President these days, especially when one of the job requirements is, apparently, to be able to control a planet's climate all by yourself? - spd998, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Lets go on a cruise when it does. Who's with me?
- bfaulk04, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1It won't be all bad... haven't you seen Waterworld? Dennis Hopper and his band of miscreants will keep things interesting.
- jessdub99, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0And flying cars?
- Kwonza, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2.....ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG
- moojj, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0"When do you think the Bush administration will start taking this seriously?" - I guess the answer is never, seeing as though the Bush administration will end its presidential run this year. That gives 43 years for someone else to fix the problem.
What is Digg?
