- Junkyarddawg, on 10/11/2007, -25/+133There is no veteran or war hero the right wing dare not smear. They've smeared grieving mothers of soldiers fallen in battle, and decorated heroes with perfect record. If there'd be potential fallout, they'll just swiftboat him. As soon as this guy gets big enough to warrant smearing, he'll be smeared, make no mistake.
- TheSavant, on 10/11/2007, -5/+112My unit gave me a "Other Than Honorable" discharge because I have PTSD. It should have been a medical discharge. They also demoted me. I am so glad Uncle Sam takes care of his war vets.
- diggerydood, on 10/11/2007, -20/+120Digg this guy up. He deserves it.
- obliviousfool, on 10/11/2007, -3/+67My only hope for this country is that the members of our military come back from duty and start running for office. Everybody respects them, and they know what's going on. That's a powerful combination.
Also, FTA, "On Monday, Kokesh has to show up at a hearing so the Corps can re-discharge him, this time dishonorably."
Re-discharge? WTF? I've never heard of that. - cr4ft, on 10/11/2007, -19/+81This guy is awesome.
Why don't Hannity/Oreilly/etc who've never fought in a war go risk their lives in Iraq? Those chicken hawks are always the first to talk about why we need to risk american lives but are never the ones willing to go and fight themselves.
They make me sick - Bhima, on 10/11/2007, -8/+66"Re-discharge" They god to find something to smear him with later on.
They can't have a good looking, straight, white *Marine* going around questioning the basis for the Iraq War.
Only those goddamned godless queers are questioning the war. - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -12/+64Give Bill O'Reilly a crack at this guy, I'm sure he could figure out a way to talk over him, insult him, call him un-American, and cut off his mic.
- nailedtonothing, on 10/11/2007, -3/+49I too am a veteran of the Iraq War who has become increasingly disgusted about how this administration is handling the continued occupation of Iraq and many domestic issues. God speed to Adam Kokesh and I hope the people responsible for these crimes against democracy burn in hell.
- thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -9/+49For reference... O'Reilly says he was wrong about Iraq. He has actually has come out and admitted his error and said that if he had a time machine, he's go back and say that we shouldn't set FOOT in Iraq.
Now Hannity... I don't listen to him. - johnhummel, on 10/11/2007, -9/+44@muyoso: Or perhaps the left chooses it's spokespeople because they are directly effected by the events. Like soldiers in Iraq, as opposed to the current draft dodging administration. Mothers of slain veterans, as opposed to this administration which has its sons and daughters partying in South America. Or the widows of 9-11 victims, because they are actually impacted by their husbands missing from their lives.
Maybe the left chooses these people because they actually know what the hell they're talking about, opposed to this administration which so far hasn't been able to demonstrate being right about *anything*. - mikelieman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+37Think of all the money saved!
Bastards. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+36Savant -- I hope you have help fighting that. In not, let me know. I'll help or get you to people that can help. -- pnolan@warriorcat.com
Hang in there brother. - Grouser, on 10/11/2007, -9/+42Pseudorious wrote a bunch of half-truths:
== 1. Kokesh is in the reserves. ==
He's in the Individual Ready Reserve. IRR members receive no pay or benefits and basically their only duty is to inform the reserve office of their address. They are inactive unless there is a Presidential Reserve Callup.
== 2. He is being punished telling his boss to, "please, kindly go f**k yourself" ==
It wasn't his boss. He has been honorably discharged and is not on active duty. He receives no benefits from his status in the IRR.
== 3. He has been recommended a discharge "Under Other than Honorable Conditions." ==
He has already been discharged. It is very questionable whether the military can change discharge status in this manner--it will probably be tested in court. The Marines are trying to impose the Unified Code of Military Conduct on a civilian. - limeorange, on 10/11/2007, -13/+45This guy is my hero!
- janeuner, on 10/11/2007, -14/+46Been trying to get this dugg up for a few days now. I'm glad someone finally got it on the front page.
- CannedMango, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32@obliviousfool
I've never heard of that either.
How much do you want to bet that in the future you'll hear Bill O'Reilly say something like "I'm not going to listen to some far-left wingnut like Adam Kokesh who was *dishonourably* discharged from the military and would rather comfort the terrorists than the American soldiers who he's stabbing in the back with these stunts he's pulling."
Make note of it, because the smearing is coming and it will be shameless. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+34He needs our help:
My name is Adam Kokesh, and I need your help: http://www.ivaw.org/kokeshletter - cocoamix, on 10/11/2007, -2/+29"For this, the Marine Corps is now "investigating" Kokesh, even though he's officially out of the Corps and banished from reenlistment due to bringing home an Iraqi pistol for his war souvenir - that's against the rules if you get caught!"
What's disgusting about this is that a guy who actually served and fought in this war is getting in trouble for that, while the douchebag who sent him there, (despite never having fought a day of combat in his life) proudly diplays one in his office.

As a "Brit", I'm proud to say that I wholeheartedly support the effort in the US to bring these vile deceivers to justice.
It is right that the people behind these lies about how badly the US is failing in Iraq, the truth behind the billions of dollars squandered in reconstruction money and that whole Iraqi civilian/combatants torture fiasco should be brought to justice.
Where do we start? Impeaching George Bush and letting Adam Kokesh stand perhaps?
That would be a good start. You see, you may be in the forces, and you may need to believe that it's a good war, but unlike Kokesh, if you return home in a bodybag, you won't have a voice or an opinion anymore. - jnosanov, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25Response to Mike Campbell:
You have typical arrogant party-loyalist American attitude... you attribute his experience to a party other than yours, and that allows you to ignore everything he is saying. Does that really make you feel better about the attorney general having complete amnesia about a major event that he was in charge of, and then the president expressing total confidence in him?
We are in this mess because people like you refuse to question your own party, and blame everything on the other party. Think outside the box, American. - dodus, on 10/11/2007, -8/+30Sad but so absolutely undeniably true--they can turn anyone on the planet into a smear victim. It's more about if the public's ripe for buying it...and hopefully that's what's changing.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23I'm constantly amazed how many are still deluded that the Republicans are more military-friendly than anyone else. How many more pointless wars and incidents of being collectively treated like dirt is it going to take?
- quakerorts, on 10/11/2007, -3/+24Related Digg on this guy:
http://digg.com/politics/Honorably_Discharged_Marine_Charged_For_Speaking_Out_While_On_Inactive_RR - mjl5629, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21Everybody in the military knows you can't be in uniform and protest. Everybody in the military also knows that when you take off the tag that says "US Army" or "USMC" it ceases to be a military uniform and becomes just another piece of clothing.
The only reason the military would go after this guy is to try to shake him up. - roystgnr, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20Max Cleland, John Murtha, John Kerry... they even smeared John McCain in the 2000 Republican primaries. Who gave okbohica the impression that the right wing was unwilling to mudsling at war veterans?
- Pseudorious, on 10/11/2007, -48/+66No he doesn't deserve to be voted-up. I will cite references for the many mistakes from Kokesh's own blog.
If you wish to digg this post down for political reasons, so be it, and congratulations for not allowing facts to stand in the way of your beliefs.
1. Kokesh is in the reserves, and therefore bound to his employment agreements, just like anyone else is at work.
Kokesh's blog, top-right corner:
http://kokesh.blogspot.com/
2. He is not being punished for speaking against the war. He is being punished telling his boss to, "please, kindly go f**k yourself" and wearing his uniform to an anti-war protest. If I work for Fedex, but chose to wear my uniform to an anti-Fedex rally, I'm also going to be fired. The uniform of a company implies its endorsement. Do I need to explain what would happen if I sent an email to my boss ending with, "please, kindly go f**k yourself?"

3. He is not being dishonorably discharged. He has been recommended a discharge "Under Other than Honorable Conditions." They are very separate classes.

I will not call Kokesh stupid - far from it. His goal was to provoke an obvious reaction that could be altered by the anti-war movement into serving its aims. I, however, like to fact check. It prevents individuals from manipulating me.
The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan deserve to be discussed purely on factual merits and drawbacks. There's a lot of bull on both sides, but this downright stinks.
Voted down for being inaccurate. - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20Never underestimate the ring wings ability to distort the truth... see this interview with Melanie Morgan telling Jon Soltz of votevets.org he is disrespectful to the troops, anti american, pro terrorism etc.. His simple response "WE ARE THE TROOPS"
Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8rVeQ-lTlk
Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0tvb_gYpZg - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20"liberals smear vets just for being in the military (my roomate at Ft. Gordon got spat on and called a babykiller when he was walking around in new york in his class a's), if a conservative smears a vet, there is usually a very good reason"
my dad was a Vietnam vet that got called plenty of things as well (anyone that insults the troops instead of the leadership is just ignorant and simple minded), but when he got out of the army he himself protested the war and he was definitely a liberal, stop being so simple minded yourself. being against the war isn't being against the troops - enalios, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19How can they re-discharge you for something you did while not in the marines?? I know there's a time period afterward where you have to be on your best behavior, but surely that's only a week or so? Am I wrong?
- Albionshores, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18You like to think that everybody who does not support the war is left wing don't you. Its not true. People on the right denounce it, as do people in the middle and people on the left. Its not about where you stand on economic policy but where you stand regarding authoritarian versus libertarian.
Of course you can disagree with someone that has served in the military and still be patriotic. But here's a guy that has previously put his life on the line for his country and whilst disagreeing with him does not necessarily make you unpatriotic, his service record does mean you cannot accuse him of being unpatriotic.
Plus, not that he need earn it, he has earned the right to say what he believes in and, considering that he has been over there, is in a far better position to say what is and isn't happening than some attention seeking politician who plays whore to big-business. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19This is the first I've read about Kokesh! Thank you for the link. What a fricken travesty!
- betacmag4u, on 10/11/2007, -6/+21After what the Neo Cons did to Max Cleland anything is possible.
- MrVandemar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Depends on term of enlistment. Minimum Duty is 8 years. If you sign up for less that 8 years, you have to serve the remainder as inactive ready reserve. So if he only served 4 years before he was discharged, he still has 4 years on his "contract" where they still own him. So while he would be "discharged", he is still a marine and wont get his final papers for another 4 years.
- mach32, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16snappy dresser too
- mjl5629, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15I'm a veteran and I agree.
- Yonson, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15I desperately hope you aren't somehow trying to marginalize the loss of human life.
- dodus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14"Claim?" He served.
And no one's using Kokesh to call anyone patriotric, he's our defense against that kind of thing, which comes from your side my friend. - jnosanov, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17Do you know anyone in the military? You think that 3400 dead people is somehow trivial because there are over a million live people? If you believe that it's not worth complaining about even a single human life sacrificed without a good reason, then you are truly something other than a human being.
- nick415, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14donate to his legal defense fund! he doesn't have that much time to get a good lawyer to defend him, so act now diggers. we have to help our veterans be able to take a stand against this war. we aren't the ones dying and sacrificing in Iraq, they are.

If it's so safe and wonderful, get your ass over there. - volscio, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Sigh...it's not illegal to wear uniform for protests under IRR...that's what the debate is about...
- IkeMavent, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12I went to undergrad (Claremont McKenna College) with kokesh, he's a good guy. And who doesn't love a rabble-rouser?
- Albionshores, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14His should be a name that is remembered every time the "its unpatriotic to not support the war" argument is used. On the contrary supporting the troops now means making sure this guy is given more air time, heard and understood.
- skulljar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11I am not aware that any MCO's or the UCMJ apply to Inactive Ready Reservists. Someone please enlighten me. I don't feel like looking it up even though I am an IRR'ist. Maybe I'll check into it when I have a minute.
Also, he was a major, NOT a general. And I bet he really isn't used to being spoken to like that; I bet it chaffed his ass quite a bit. - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11what's your point? those people were fired. why hasn't Bush been fired for lying to the entire nation?
- mjl5629, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11@ thcobbs
Quit lying! You don't get a check in the IRR! - Novion76, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10http://kokesh.blogspot.com/

*****, he wouldn't last ten minutes before he'd be peeing his pants and crying for mommy. - Novion76, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11You obviously didn't bother to read. Auto-burying for your own political reasons is just as disgusting.
