- ssquared22, on 05/18/2009, -3/+19Wait a dude joined the KKK to appeal for votes? Damn, that's messed up.
- inactive, on 05/18/2009, -5/+18#6 Clarance Thomas?
- nullcodes, on 05/19/2009, -1/+11He could appoint me. I mean, it'll sure meet the shocking criteria. Plus, I'll be a good choice. I'll be efficient and quick ... I know this because on a lot the cases I hear about on digg, I form an opinion before even reading the details of the case.
- inactive, on 05/18/2009, -2/+11Interesting list. I wonder who will be Obama's pick in June.
- skneils, on 05/19/2009, -1/+10Wait a dude who joined the KKK is our longest serving senator? It happened...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Byrd - LoveWidescreen, on 05/19/2009, -3/+10Sorry. He can't pick an African-American. Dual-citizenships aren't allowed in the U.S. (or so say two British ex-pats who became citizens). Now, if he picked a black woman ... oh, hell, can't he just pick a woman and let that be news?
Jesus ***** Christ!! I hate political correctness and the stupid divisions it's created in this country! - Brassbud, on 05/19/2009, -0/+7It's better than him going by just "BO"...
- LoveWidescreen, on 05/19/2009, -0/+6Wow, you're a total ass. They're either African or they're American. They're not both. ***** pick one and stick with it.
I would bother to explain how political correctness is more divisive and harmful than anything else, but I'd have more success (and a more pleasant conversation, no doubt) talking to a potted plant. - oboshoe, on 05/19/2009, -1/+6An equally compelling case could be made that omitting his actual name is racist as well.
For Gods sake, its a NAME.
Should we strike the letter "H" from the Alphabet to appease you politically correct ninnis? - inactive, on 05/19/2009, -1/+6He was sworn into office using his full name.
- FearlessFreep, on 05/19/2009, -0/+5That's what I thought too, abbreviate it "BHO" because "BO" just sounds bad
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -1/+6So his middle name is Hussein he should be proud of it.
Buried post for race baiting garbage. - twiztidsinz, on 05/19/2009, -0/+5Thank you.
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -1/+6Black didn't join the KKK just to get votes. He was a KKK lawyer and defended KKK members who had engaged in acts of violence against blacks. He's also the guy who split the country forever with his bogus separation of church and state ruling.
- lndmn01, on 05/19/2009, -0/+5Why the hell does it matter if the nominee is a woman, or black, or Hispanic, or gay? Why not just make a pick that is a good judge? I hate identity politics.
- Brassbud, on 05/19/2009, -1/+6Picking a woman or a Hispanic wouldn't break tradition at all. You know what would break tradition? Picking the most quailified person without being racist or sexist, but that will never happen.
- Rahaz, on 05/19/2009, -1/+5If he picks a minority women it would be entirely political and not whats best for the country in most cases.
That would really suck. Especially since it would validate the media hate that says he's going to pick based on race and gender alone. - LoveWidescreen, on 05/19/2009, -2/+6Wow. You didn't understand a damned thing that I said.
- merreborn, on 05/19/2009, -0/+4The US was a different place in those days. Racism was accepted. Encouraged, even. When a state's voters are overwhelmingly racists, they'll elect a racist.
Remember Senator Strom Thurmond? South Carolina senator, 1956 - 2003? Died just a couple of years ago?
http://knowledgerush.com/wiki_image/e/e2/Strom_Thu ... - absolutelytrue, on 05/26/2009, -4/+7Wow, those are pretty shocking. The history is interesting. I wonder what surprises Obama has in store for us?
- Swarms, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3How about the person most qualified for the job, and not some "politically shocking" move such as a woman or hispanic? If they happen to be hispanic and the most qualified, sure, but this is the supreme court, do we really need an affirmative action appointee?
- MargotCross, on 05/18/2009, -0/+3so interesting.. i wonder who Obama will pick. rumor has it that it will be a woman, but i guess time will tell.
- asgardshill, on 05/19/2009, -2/+5Bet it won't be Harriet Miers.
- Swarms, on 05/19/2009, -3/+6They're his initials. How would you abbreviate it?
- sulthernao, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2There is only one woman serving on the court. In my opinion if it was between a equally qualified man and a woman I'd choose a woman. I do agree on what you are trying to say, and that he should pick the most qualified.
- staticfire, on 05/20/2009, -0/+2I agree with LoveWidescreen and I voted for Obama
- oboshoe, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2Its politics.
Qualifications and Politics may occasionally overlap, but only by coincidence. - oboshoe, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2Wow.
FDR appointed a KKK member to the Supreme Court. (Hugo black).
Its going to be hard to top that one for shocking. - Wreckage, on 05/19/2009, -1/+3Wait till Obama selects Bill Clinton.
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -1/+3I'm sure he'll nominate someone that will legislate from the bench since they don't have to run for re-election.
Perhaps someone that will use case law from another country that has no bearing because the law from somewhere else isn't tempered by our Constitution. - hellsing47, on 05/19/2009, -1/+3Really?
JFK, FDR, LBJ...
He does have a middle name, he was sworn in with it. How the ***** are we not past this? - xptical, on 05/19/2009, -0/+1In many cases, there are 4 or 5 "best" people for the job.
- realeiger, on 05/19/2009, -0/+1Not particularly. The KKK (the second organization of that name; the first was the Reconstruction paramilitary outfits) in the 20s was a pretty disgusting organization but it was also extraordinarily popular with possibly millions of members all across the country. By the thirties, it had largely burned itself out, but finding out that a prominent politician had been a member isn't particularly shocking.
- samsmartjr, on 05/19/2009, -1/+2Dude, are you kidding? A man who is six degrees from every other person on Earth would be an AWESOME pick for the Supreme Court.
- mr138, on 05/21/2009, -0/+1yo ***** the closest you've ever been to africa is the it's a small world ride at disney land.
- klassen31, on 05/19/2009, -0/+1You might want to read the article then because although your point is valid it is not what the article is about.
- Wreckage, on 05/19/2009, -1/+2That's just "new" coke.
- bicyclethief, on 05/19/2009, -1/+2You had me at Browser Helper Object.
- Barackalypse, on 05/19/2009, -0/+1Funny you mention the Constitution, the Anti-Federalist Papers includes several essays regarding the danger of the essentially unchecked power the Supreme Court is vested in:

http://www.wepin.com/articles/afp/afp82.html - com2, on 05/19/2009, -0/+1"race/ethnicity/gender" you left out religion.
- FearlessFreep, on 05/19/2009, -1/+2He will pick the highest visibility Republican. He's pretty much nominating anyone for cabinet or ambassador that he doesn't want to have to run against in 2012 and SC justice is a good way to sideline a contender
- luminairex, on 05/19/2009, -1/+2Kevin Bacon would be an awful pick
- FearlessFreep, on 05/19/2009, -1/+1YOU? Buried.
- Visual77, on 05/19/2009, -1/+1You really should've read the article, because you look pretty silly right now.
- shutaro, on 05/19/2009, -2/+2#6) Bacon.
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -2/+2Indeed, a black conservative is considered heresy in some circles.
- sulthernao, on 05/19/2009, -1/+1To be fair he did apologize for his actions. But yeah it amazing how alien our past can seem. I remember in the Audacity of Hope there was a really good passage about the conversation that Byrd and Obama had after Obama had just been elected to the Senate.
- fyngyrz, on 05/19/2009, -2/+2Obama doesn't understand the plain English of the 2nd and 4th amendments (and he certainly isn't alone in that); he doesn't understand the commerce clause, thinks "intrastate" means "interstate." He also doesn't understand article 3, thinks it's a gateway to amendment w/o any of the inconvenience.
Those are your key signals that he's probably going to make a real mess out of this. - WNLJAS, on 05/19/2009, -0/+0Obama should be looking at Chief Judge Robert M. Bell of the Court of Appeals for Maryland..
- accruels, on 05/19/2009, -1/+1barry hussein obama picking immigrants for top positions? no suprise there
