- CloakandSwagger, on 10/10/2007, -8/+127The reason the question was never aired was because most of the candidates would essentially have to incriminate themselves in the process of answering it. The avoidance of such a question shields them from taking responsibility for what they may or may not have done in the past and most importantly, for what they may do in the future.
Approving impeachment now could come back to haunt them given the high probability that most of the potential candidates, if elected, would continue operating many of the illegal programs and quite possibly invoke one of the recent National Security Presidential Directives like NSPD51,
http://digg.com/politics/Recently_signed_Presidential_Directive_NSPD51_Gives_BUSH_Dictatorial_Powers
which completely removes any and all form of traditional government in the U.S. and basically gives the President dictatorial powers.
Obviously, a lot of people are worried about Bush/Cheney using this to fulfill their agenda, but it could just as easily be used by any other President who represents the corporate/banking elite that will ensure the military industrial complex remains properly oiled and fully operational in its quest to assert global dominance. - macaca, on 10/10/2007, -8/+99CNN = Censored News Network?
- yourfavweapn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+71Im surprised the questions weren't about the candidates thoughts on David Beckham's arrival to the states and if they had gotten their iphone yet. Television journalism today is a joke. Either they are so blind to contradicting viewpoints and EVIDENCE(Fox) or they are trying desperately to avoid the liberal media image and all potential hardball questions and material(CNN). Thats why I'm sure they are more than happy to run a Paris Hilton or David Beckham story, just so they can forgo actually having to do their ***** job which is report the news!
- FrameShift, on 10/10/2007, -11/+60My question:
Mr. Giuliani, what tasks and functions of serving as the mayor or New York city do you believe prepared you for the job of the President of the United States? Bear in mind, you are forbidden from using September 11th in your response. - tucsonsun13, on 10/10/2007, -2/+41I'd like to see an actual debate rather than this Q&A bu*lsh*t.
- Gryffydd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29"Television is to news what bumper stickers are to philosophy"
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+30I would let him use 9/11. Why? Because he didn't do anything then either. He rants about how he is tough on terror. Really? Because most of the firefighters talk about they were unprepared so you obviously weren't to tough up until 9/11. On 9/11 all he did was act as a mouthpiece and talked to the media which I would sure hope to hell he could do since he is the mayor of the city. I can't say he is a bad leader, he did his job, but it's nothing particular special for someone who is supposed to run a large city like NY. I mean Mike Bloomberg has done a good job too, no attacks on NYC since he took office, but it doesn't make him a terrorism expert and he doesn't try to act like he is. Being mayor of a city targeted by a terrorist attack doesn't equate to being an expert on terrorism. All I am saying is, don't deny him the ability to talk about 9/11... let him. But when he does, call him out on it.
Also, CNN blows. - tucsonsun13, on 10/10/2007, -4/+29Let's start a fund to reward anyone who can actually Goatse CNN.
- Deranged, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25Is making every candidate look as good as possible the purpose of this whole debate? Because I think if it was voted number 1, CNN owes the public a reason as to why it was withheld.
- zippy757, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22Has NOTHING to do with the intent of a debate, i.e. what would you do IN THE FUTURE, if you were president.... .....this wasn't about the CURRENT situation.......that's a different debate.... The question they should have asked, would be, 'would you PARDON this bozo if you were elected, and he had been impeached'
- Novagenesis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I so want a bumper sticker that says that!
- yutt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11"The thing that inevitably happens is totalitarianism with the perpetual illusion of citizen control."
Sort of like a democratic republic? - postal21, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10wrong wrong wrong.
the news channels are not there to tell you "news", they are there to make money. CNN and FOX are businesses, they air the "news" that gets them the most viewers and in turn the most revenue through advertising and other means.
The reason they show Paris Hilton and David Beckham stories all day is because its what people watch. For every person that gets on here and says "wow I hate Paris, blah blah blah" I guarantee there is another 10 that are enthralled by every minute of her shennanigans. I will agree people are getting sick of her more then ever, but as long as it sells commercials they will show her. - gonegoogling, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10omfg how many of us would love it if the congress' attention was diverted from the smoke and mirrors?
- thelastknowngod, on 10/10/2007, -14/+22i doubt that this was not picked because of censorship. this is a question that focuses on an administration that the incomming president would have little or nothing to do with. the point of the debates is to see their goals for the future of the country, not to dwell on the past and not to take jabs at a commander that they dont agree with.
im no supporter of this administration but i do think that this question would have been out of place in the debate. - john2kx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10nothing is worse than Goatse.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11LOL!!! You are confusing communism with political totalitarianism. They actually are two different animals. If it was the Communist News Network then the PEOPLE would all own it.
- JudgeDreddEsq, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Actually there were 2 questions. There was an absence of immigration or border security questions which is tied with Iraq as an important issue.
- izmophonik, on 10/10/2007, -7/+13This is no conspiracy as the story suggests. The fact of the matter is that this question of impeachment has no importance within a debate to the new presidential hopefuls. CNN just wanted to keep the focus on the candidates and their ideas not propelling popular opinion about a sitting president to a televised forum. It would be called as I say in conference calls..."getting off topic".
- mightyzug, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9hey *****! ya'll are technically right, impeachment now has nothing to do with what a candidate would do in thier own term.... but the candidates opinion of impeachment now is probably a key issue for alot of folks out there. hence the question should have been asked.
- howski, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Nice try. "Bear in mind" is the expression. Perhaps it is YOU who are "bare in mind."
- spudhead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I disagree. The candidate's position on impeachment would clarify their thoughts on the power of the three branches of government and what they see as impeachable offenses.
It would be similar to asking "How would you handle a situation where an employee is accused of..." or "if you were suspicious that there was impropriety..." in a job interview for a board level position. The impeachment question applies directly to the position for which they are running.
Knowing their stand, or if they even have one, is critical in my opinion. - MatttK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yeah, I don't know why debate has a different definition in the US. When we have candidate debates in Canada, the candidates actually debate with each other. I remember the last presidential debates where the candidates weren't even allowed to speak to each other. It boggles my mind.
- Deranged, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8The point is that this video was rated #1. That means more people that planned to watch the debate wanted this question to be asked than any other question that was asked. CNN decided [for whatever unconfirmed reason, but digg wants that reason to simply be because they can] not to have that question asked to the candidates.
It's a ***** move on CNN's part, if you ask me, but before we start thinking about what kind of conspiracy theories this makes CNN a part of, we need to know why it was not aired according to CNN. - KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Ummm... Please correct me if I'm wrong. The top rated video at CommunityCounts has ... 57 votes!! Sites with videos are absolutely everywhere these days, so why the controversy that CNN didn't consult this one (relatively small) site out of thousands of others?
- maxtangent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Like we'd trust anyone but ourselves to make our hats. Sheesh.
- tucsonsun13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Jon Stewart just showed CNN how to use the full-screen button on TDshow. 4/5s of CNN's projection screen was dead space.
- Jugalator, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I long for the day there's a social news site like Digg where people vote on stories to show... on TV.
- ZBox, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9The next president wont be impeaching "him"self. The question is irrelevant.
- Novagenesis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Because he's still guilty of a crime that occured while he was in office?
- mmortal03, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4So ask them about that then, and not about whether they would impeach Bush or Cheney. Ask them what their thoughts on how powerful the executive branch should be are, and what the executive branch should have within its executive rights. Actually, I may just make a video and ask the Republican candidates that, as it might be even more appropriate to ask them than the Democrats.
- CaspianXth, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5First, it wasn't "censored". They choose which videos to use. They didn't alter it, they didn't change it's content, and they didn't supress any information. They choose not to use this video. Not censorship.
Second, this question is irrelevant to the debate. It has no useful purpose into the insight of how the candidates would act as president or what their platforms are.
Third, the video is ripe with false of unproven information. The "fact" that Bush manipulated pre-war information is not fact. It is unverified opinion. The accusation of the wire-tapping program being illegal is contested and has not proved.
I don't really like CNN, but they actually did the right thing in not choosing this video for the debate. - wolferz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5heh... speaking of animals. Have you read Animal Farm? It is a slightly whimsical look at what inevitably happens when communism is adopted as a governing method as well as an explanation of why. The thing that inevitably happens is totalitarianism with the perpetual illusion of citizen control.
- Gundark, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6...of the people, for the people, and by the people...Unless of course we don't like their questions.
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"I'd like to buy your rock"
- notque, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Have you read the censored introduction to Animal Farm? Might clear up what it's about.
- WaterDragon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Duuh!!! The point is that these candidates ARE members of congress, during this mis-administration, so they are supposed to do their jobs by preserving the constitutional government we once had, not by avoiding impeachment proceedings of these obvious criminals.
There is no excuse for their own gross inadequacies and inaction.. - maxtangent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3We have been blissfully ignorant of the slavery inflicted by paying income tax - labor without compensation.
- Yuo122986, on 10/10/2007, -12/+15That or the question wasn't really all that great. I hate how she brought up the impeachment like she had discovered gravity and then she tries to sound smart by ***** her sentences up like saying given 40 times instead of just asking if we should impeach the *****.
And why does she want somebody to be attacked so bad? She clearly is not asking the question expecting more than one answer, so at that point its not a question so much as a method to spit fire, so call it what it is, the #1 statement cnn didn't put on the debate.
Its not like these candidates saying I think Bush should be impeached is going to get congress going well if Obama says it, I guess we better do it... so why not just let the candidates talk about issues that will actually matter during their presidency instead of asking questions about things that will be over by the time they are in office?
I can only assume her next question was, "Given that Licoln helped fight the civil war and given in light of his quid pro quo method of dealing with the South, given his height, what is your opinion on whether or not he should have been shot and how can this be used in future assassination methods?" - an0nymous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Dugg for truth.
- nicc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Clinton...a former "first wife" and a carpet-bagging senator is more qualification than what Obama has?
- ronintetsuro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3And by bliss, you of course mean slavery.
- janeuner, on 10/10/2007, -9/+12I have $100 for candidates that say "I am doing this, I am doing that" on this issue. Sadly, only one candidate has earned my money, and he isn't Ron Paul.
- geekee, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Ha ha ha. What a retarded question. The day you take office, the former president is done. Why impeach him?
- alliekins619, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7What I want to know is why none of the candidates are ever asked, "What should our government be doing to ensure that Lindsay Lohan effectively undergoes rehab?" Given the extensive media coverage, this is OBVIOUSLY the most pressing issue facing our nation today. [/sarcasm]
- Alpione, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Absolutely. I can't vote for Clinton (or any Dem these days,) but she's clearly more qualified than Obama. She basically had 8 years of understudy training for president. That on top of being in the governor's mansion and being a Senator... What's Obama got?
- empath, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3A better question would have been about Presidential vs Congressional authority:
Something like:
"George Bush and Dick Cheney attempted to greatly expand the powers of the Executive Branch during his term, asserting that he has unilateral power to ignore legislation through signing statements, ignore Congressional oversite through broad claims of executive priviledge, wiretap on American citizens without a warrent, detain American citizens indefinitely without charging them with a crime, which many people claim is threatening to the future of American Democracy-- as president, would you support changes to the law or constitution that more strictly define the powers of the President, and especially the Vice President. - UnstableMind, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Someone tell me please, is the MSM corrupt? I keep thinking they're not all bad or there would be some defectors, in the name of liberty. I keep trying to get away from the whole 9/11 "is an inside job" (mainly b/c I think it would be impossible to cover up) but stumbled upon these video's on you-tube when trying to find out about LooseChange and the recent arrest of Korey Rowe. This only adds to my fears. Could this really be true. I remember the screens fading to black as soon as the second one hit, but now, this is the answer to that question. Anyway, at the very least, watch and give me your opinion.
I know it's a little off topic, but related to the "potential" censoring/doctoring of news. So ***** scary to think so many could be in on this. Then again, it may not be that many people, but a few in the right positions to execute. I have NEVER questioned the fact planes did NOT hit the towers, but after this, it's really chilling.
