But, she pointed out, Mr. McCain has been in Congress for 22 years, the Republicans have been in the White House for eight years, so who, exactly, is Ms. Palin going to reform?"
u go girl - WESTEE, on 09/14/2008, -6/+72Barbra Walters has some serious balls.
- auntazalea, on 09/13/2008, -9/+59Moral of the story- Never underestimate the ladies of The View!
- dhendrix1, on 09/14/2008, -4/+42I was pleasantly surprised by the hard hitting tone of the interview. Especially when EH asked the question about Roe vs Wade. I think Joy Behar is a total riot and I love that she is an outspoken liberal..but this show still kind of plucks my nerves. I do agree, the mainstream press has MANY reason to hang their collective heads in shame and they can just add being outdone by The View on the list!
- BradOFarrell, on 09/14/2008, -4/+37I watched the whole show on YouTube, it was great.
Barbara: "Would you overturn Roe V Wade?"
McCain: "I, uh, I'd appoint justices that support uphold the original constitution."
Whoopi: "So, do I have to worry about being a slave again? Because there's certain things left out of the constitution that we had to change." - mikesoba, on 09/14/2008, -5/+36Walters has more balls than the "journalists" of this country, both in print and on the television.
Ever since 9/11, the "journalists" of this country have been nothing more than cheerleaders for the Bush administration and the war in Iraq. With one exception that I know of, the "journalists" were captive observers embedded with army units, losing all objectivity about the Iraq war. These people have lost all credibility and should look in shame at how they have destroyed the fourth estate, turning it into an arm of the Neo-con right propaganda machine. - algaeturd, on 09/14/2008, -3/+28The MSM has proved that they want a horse race. If they held McCain to the hard questions, Obama would zip past him so quickly in the polls that it would give Americans whiplash.
As it stands, they have to degrade Obama seriously and push McCain. Otherwise, there is no nail biter for the media to have all the lemmings tune in to see how close it is and who wins.
Anyone who thinks we'll ever get accurate election coverage and candidate investigation is a fool at this point. The media does what's in the best interest of THEIR profits, not what's best for America or American voters. That should be well understood at this point in history where the media almost single handedly handed us the Iraq war as they beat the drums in cadence with Bush & Co.
It's a shame that Americans have to seek out media personalities to rally behind because they're so rare and hard to find. Barbara could have a new niche now...she's respected, she's been around, she broke ground for female journalists and she could present a new voice in political coverage as long as she stays honest and fair.
Republicans have to assume that ANY kind of questioning of Palin or McCain represents media bias when in reality, you ask TOUGH questions of ALL candidates, hold them to scrutiny and demand the tough answers. That's part of the process, it's always been.
And even with these Palin investigations, THAT'S WHAT ***** HAPPENS IN AN ELECTION. Just because the investigations are finding results that you don't want to face doesn't mean there is any slant going on. Sometimes in politics, you have to call a pig a pig...it's as simple as that. - ProKid, on 09/14/2008, -3/+28I love how when confronted on his false ads he still continues to claim they're true. Same thing he did when confronted about saying he wasnt very good with economics. DENY DENY DENY
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -8/+30Mccain squirmed like a virgin that saw her first *****.
- harbon, on 09/14/2008, -1/+22Why should we let the Republicans reform Washington when it was the Republicans who screwed it up?
- Jhiaxuz, on 09/14/2008, -2/+21They should breed her and Jon Stewart to make a hybrid super reporter...
- Corvidae, on 09/14/2008, -1/+14I have to think Barbara was just warming up really. It was a great interview, but lets face it, if we're comparing her to the current crop of 'journalists', even Jon Stewart makes them look bad. And he's just a comedian!
Journalism has been dying a slow death since the repeal of the fairness doctrine. Not that I'd like to see it return, but some kind of ethics would be a welcome change. - inactive, on 09/14/2008, -0/+12Man, can you imagine how much worse things would be than they are now if the democrats hadn't shut down Washington a little more than one year ago???
- otis12, on 09/14/2008, -5/+16Barbara Walters the badass
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 09/14/2008, -1/+12Buried as irrelevant and petty.
- Doughboy1917, on 09/14/2008, -1/+12Those danged dems. I can't believe they managed to get us into an un-justified war with Iraq, then cut taxes and send spending through the roof... ruining the economy. And they did it all in only two years!
It's too bad they were allowed to spend those two years un-doing all the good things George Bush and the republicans spent 12 years putting together.
Wait. How'd the do all this while sitting on their hands? - TigerStar337, on 09/14/2008, -2/+12It is good to see a journalist who does not fear the Republican bullies. Barbara Rocks!
- DCstewieG, on 09/14/2008, -0/+9Wrong. Many of the women who just gave McCain his jump in the polls watch The View.
- RenoKb, on 09/14/2008, -1/+10I find it humorous that you go on a rather hateful tirade against Whoopi and liberals in general because they're so full of hate.
- gluecode, on 09/14/2008, -4/+13Hail Barbara Walters! She kicked McSame's ass on that show! Looking at the clip, I felt that she was genuinely concerned and her questions were unscripted. That was awesome!
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -5/+14They rocked him.
- chrissku, on 09/14/2008, -2/+10Palin was a terrible pick. It scares me that McCain was willing to put someone so close to the Presidency with so little experience. I think Obama needs to point out how ***** reckless this decision was on McCain's part. This lady is ***** scary.
- Dagreenman, on 09/14/2008, -1/+8Out of all the places for the McCain/Pailin ticket to get owned, this is the worse.
dosen't matter if you are a republican or a Democrat. if you are an american women, chances are you probably watch the view. the only place that i can think of that would be worse is Oprah, and she would really tear him a new one...... mr. McCain, please go on Oprah. - SpeedSteamBoat, on 09/14/2008, -0/+7Buried for the mental image... *shudder*
- wizzroom, on 09/14/2008, -1/+8You can't expect any less from Barbara Walters. She comes from the old school of journalists who actually ask tough questions and whose priorities aren't to help the network increase ratings.
- Ravatar, on 09/14/2008, -0/+7In case anyone missed it, Dan Rather spoke about the influence of big business on the mainstream media at the DNC. It's about this very topic, you can check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o25T0BspJ7c&feature ...
- ha3er0, on 06/16/2009, -1/+8I hate it when everyone talks at the same time, specially when discussing something important; which is why I could never really sit down and watch "the view" for along time. But the mccain "interview" was interesting because not only did they ask some very questions that others failed to do but also they weren't all chatting at the same time as much... for a change.
- harbon, on 09/14/2008, -1/+7A majority in Congress means nothing if you have a hostile minority and President.
What can they get done? Only what the Republicans let them. - brishchik, on 09/14/2008, -4/+10I really felt sorry for McCain though. He's simply too senile and has sold his soul to Rove's disciples. Poor guy.
- CCB0x45, on 09/14/2008, -0/+5haha what? I dont think she is against Palin for being a woman, she is against her for not sharing any of her political ideas like Clinton did, and she is against her for being unqualified.
And apparently she was angered at McCain for the ridiculous lying ads he ran.
The real sexist is the one that sees no difference between Clinton and Palin... but but they are both women? shouldnt you vote for one since the other is gone? idiots. - Rudegar, on 09/14/2008, -0/+5"even Jon Stewart makes them look bad. And he's just a comedian!"
these days being a comedian is a more honorable profession then a journalist though :) - thePTS, on 09/14/2008, -2/+7I tried to watch this interview, but McCain answered with standard ***** and even got applauded for it when he started to talk about praying every day. Just sickening. I feel sorry for atheists and other rational people living in the US, it's gotta be pretty annoying to see grownup people acting like this in front of a 4 year presidential election.
- JLSN, on 09/14/2008, -4/+9If these journalist were really doing their job, they would expose that Caribou Barbie and maybe Yoda too believe the earth is only 6000 years old, and dinosaurs were walking around 4000 years ago.
This type of ignorance should not be tolerated in our leaders. If you want to believe that then fine, but it is a delusion and a form of insanity that makes you unfit for public service. I would go so far as to say that you should be locked up 5150 for your own protection and we should subject you to de-bible-ification before you can be released. - gllopc, on 09/14/2008, -3/+8They made him look like a liar. Unfortunately, this won't prevent any votes.
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -0/+5It strikes me that the current Mrs. McCain is also a whore who had sex with a married man.
- gaqua, on 09/14/2008, -1/+6This is the stupidest thing I've ever read.
We don't dislike her because she's "pretty" and "young" and a "patriot".
We dislike her because she's vindictive, mean-spirited, unqualified, and hypocritical. - wwwonka, on 09/14/2008, -2/+6I think she is a great example of American journalism at it's finest. Intelligent, witty, down to earth, not afraid to dig into what exactly is on the minds of America. She never ever pushes her agenda, let alone make it known. She, along with the likes of Tom Brokaw, is still a vestige of what is now a dying sensationalist media.
- Shirleycakes, on 09/14/2008, -3/+7...and Democrats have had no hand in that at all? Everyone in Washington is to blame, guys.

The Dems aren't blameless, but since Reagan, they are the party of fiscal sanity and reasonable foreign policy. The modern republican party makes me miss Nixon -- and that's pretty damn scary.
- polarbeargarden, on 11/04/2008, -6/+9Here's the actual story, not the commentary.
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/12/the- ... - quazywabbit, on 09/14/2008, -4/+7would love to see the safe to Obama and I'm sure they could find just as many hard hitting questions for him.
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -3/+6Buried for people bitterly clinging to their religion and guns.
- samard2002, on 09/14/2008, -5/+8I wonder if most Barack fans (which I am assuming most Diggers are) would watch the Bill O'Reilley interview with Obama and think it had a "hard hitting" tone like this, or if they would find it disrespectful.
Personally, I have found all the recent interviews with our presidential candidates to be extremely disrespectful. O'Reilley made faces the entire time, The View women would just cackle and scoff constantly (Walters would not even look at him during some questions). Even Gibson would roll his eyes when Palin answered his questions. You CAN ask hard-hitting questions without interrupting or denigrating your subject.
I think it says a lot about our candidates that they can walk into these pseudo-journalistic environments (save Gibson) and maintain their composure. If I had a conversation with O'Reilley for 30 minutes and he just made stink faces at me after every answer, I would punch him in his smug face. - MacEnvy, on 09/15/2008, -0/+3I thought Whoopi's analogy was rather appropriate actually.
- sykopath79, on 09/14/2008, -0/+3Don't know why people are digging you down for pointing out that this is blog spam, and linking to the actual story.
- supermanred, on 09/14/2008, -0/+3Show your support? How about everyone clicks on your post and thumbs it down and then reports you for spamming some crap web site. I hope someone replaces your entire web content with the picture of a can of spam.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 09/14/2008, -2/+5I, for one, would love to see the return of the fairness doctrine.
What right does the media have to slant and sensationalize everything they report? Prior to Reagan the answer was a confident "None."
The repeal of the fairness doctrine has made the likes of Fox News possible and allowed conservative shills like O'Reilly, Limbaugh, and Hannity to present themselves as credible, "no spin" journalists.
Where does it leave us when some can get on the radio or TV, spread lies and smears, and then say the reason what they're saying is different from other things you might hear is because they're telling the truth? It creates conflict, confusion, and division. It does nothing but hurt the political conversation in America. Men such as these are the very reason you need go no further than Canada to see a social, political discourse happening that has died in America thanks to inflammatory, divisive, lies and distortions.
The argument for the repeal of the fairness doctrine was that it somehow prevented an honest discourse from taking place over the air, but with it's repeal we've lost honest discourse both on the air and in the street. It's repeal has probably hurt America in ways we can scarcely even begin to understand. - supermanred, on 09/14/2008, -0/+3No, the cowards are the journalists who refuse to even ask those questions.
Oh, and pulling the lever to continue the same government that has gotten 5,000 soldiers killed in what amounts to a theft of money from the American populace....pulling the lever to continue the economic policies that have left America practically bankrupt... pulling the lever to continue the foreign policy that has made the rest of the word look down on and hate America... pulling that lever is sheer ignorance and self-destruction. - inactive, on 09/14/2008, -0/+3and the dumbasses that support him will still believe him...
