- Prysorra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This one's okay. Chalabi probably has ties to Iran, and it wouldn't surprise me if Iran contributed to the WMD mess. *Blinks*. It makes sense. ***** over your enemy by getting someone else to attack. Jesus - this might be the conspiracy that everyone's looking for.

Problem is I don't find him all that believable as a whistle blower... he's trying to paint himself as the lone voice of reason when he was right there in the thick of lies.

He lied about there being WMD's everywhere in Iraq, he lied about the size of his own support and about the hate against Saddam, he lied about everything. He did it to get the US to attack Iraq - no one should be surprised, he was a shiite oppositional and is guaranteed to deeply hate Saddam. He had an agenda, but it wasn't exactly hidden.
But, here's the funny part - the CIA knew he lied. They couldn't check all his claims, but they could check some of it, and it didn't add up. And Tenet knew about this.
At the same time, the administration loved Chalabi because he was giving them the justification they needed to start the war with Iraq, the war they'd been planning for years, and they probably didn't even much care if what Chalabi said checked out.
But - wasn't it Tenet job to make sure the administration knew that Chalabi was a tainted source? Shouldn't he have defended his analysts when the administration leaned on them to produce or fake evidence in support of the war? Instead, he did everything and exactly as the administration wanted.
As director, Tenet was a sycophant. A yes-man. Now we're to believe he grew balls after he got fired? That he never really meant to be a sycophant, and that the administration is unfair in treating him as if he was?
***** that. I loathe the Bush administration, but no matter how much he protests, Tenet is part of it. He was an enabler for the Iraq war, and now he's trying to escape blame. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When can we just accept that his book is too ridiculous to take seriously?
