- contractcentral, on 11/22/2007, -0/+2FTA: Republican Presidential candidate Tom Tancredo blasted what he called ‘Rogue Mayors’ from Texas towns along the Mexican border that are attempting to block the construction of a border fence intended to protect U.S. borders from illegal aliens and terrorists.
“These mayors are jeopardizing national security with their not-in-my-backyard attitude,” Tancredo said. “Congress approved the border fence with the overwhelming support of the American people to protect our nation from terrorists and illegal aliens and it will not be thwarted by a handful of rogue mayors.”
Mayors that oppose construction of the border fence from Brownsville, Del Rio and El Paso have denied access to areas of their cities for construction of the fence.
Tancredo’s sarcasm and disgust was evident when he stated, “Maybe the solution to this impasse is to build the border fence north of these communities. These mayors have already demonstrated that their hearts and loyalties lie with Mexico – perhaps they’d feel more comfortable if their cities were geographically located there as well.”
Lack of border security has allowed Mexican drug wars to spill across the U.S. border and poses a grave threat to national security since terrorist need to enter the country before they can kill Americans.
The Bush administrations refusal to protect U.S. borders and stop illegal immigration in the six years since 9/11 has puzzled many. Especially since taking extreme measures in other areas that threaten the Bill of Rights as the Patriot Act does.
In another battle against local officials undermining U.S. immigration laws Tancredo recently testified against Governor Spitzer’s new driver’s license plan at a special forum sponsored by the State Assembly Republican Conference. The plan would give illegal immigrants the right to attain driver’s licenses in the state of New York.
“Governor Spitzer’s treacherous proposal to give drivers licenses to illegal aliens exposes all Americans,” Tancredo said, “One would think that after 9/11 our leaders would work for the security of America, not against it. Governor Spitzer is virtually guaranteeing that future terrorists and illegal aliens in need of documents will get them in New York.” (Discuss Tom Tancredo and other candidates on www.usadaily.net)
