- pickensplan, on 11/13/2008, -0/+8We made it to The Daily Show folks!!. It actually great to see Jon and his fans embrace something like this!
- nichesiteexpert, on 11/13/2008, -0/+5Although I found his comment about electric motors not being able to move trucks extremely misleading. Electric motors are perfectly able to move trucks. The problem is that our battery technology just doesn't have the energy density required to hold enough electricity to make electric trucks practical as long-haul cargo movers. But this will change, as battery technology improves. In fact, just yesterday there was a story on TreeHugger: http://digg.com/tech_news/Battery_Life_Breakthroug ...
- CGProphet, on 11/13/2008, -0/+4Nautral Gas powers forklifts, so it will work fine for trucks.
Too bad that when we do use NG, the companies that hold a monopoly will simply raise the price. That's what they do folks - we need energy indipendance from companies that deliver energy basically. We need cars that we can provide a fuel source to. - samotage, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3Fact, electric motors have more toque than IC engines. Guess what motivates those big long long goods trains?
- diggydougie, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2Nobody seems to be moving in this direction, but it does seem that the electricity generated by windmills could be used to make hydrogen on site, and then the hydrogen used to power the heavy vehicles and industry.
- diggydougie, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2To be fair his comment was referring to the batteries.
- thenekkidtruth, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1I don't like it.
If Pickens wants to do all this stuff, he should just go do it. He's one of the richest men in America - he can knock himself out. If he needs more money, he can do what all businesses do - go to the bank and get a loan.
My question is this - what does he need us for? Our capital - his profits? Sure looks like that to me.
Besides, until he pays up on Kerry's swiftboat challenge, as far as I'm concerned he's just another lying Republican con. I don't trust him. http://tinyurl.com/3doto8 - hookedonjesus, on 11/16/2008, -0/+1T. Boone, thanks for this post! I appreciated that you pointed out to a majority of the audience that "this is your problem. It isn't my problem". You have put time and money and effort and research into this....many years worth and I hope THEY appreciate all that you have done and pointed out. I'm praying that others pick up the ball and run with it.
- philosi, on 11/20/2008, -0/+0Naysayers and Pickens detractors should put their doubts and suspicions aside. Natural gas is the only available, tried and true option right now to burning the refined products of imported oil in our vehicles large and small. Every time we choose gasoline or diesel over natural gas we send more money and jobs overseas. Some of that money does return oh yea; with their profits foreigners buy up our assets - our means of production. If you stop and think about it, it is truly UnAmerican to continue doing business this way. I'd much rather a fellow countryman in the natural gas industry gets the benefit of selling fuel to us than some foreigner who doesn't pay taxes here on his earnings. Or do we want to continue subsidizing the OPEC nations and their love-to-hate-us mentality?
- ichthus007, on 11/18/2008, -0/+0I do not think he wants them to "want" it. He wants us to think about it. He wants us to figure out the cost to us and to our children of continuing to do nothing. He wants us to relentlessly pursue our elected officials until they are sick and tired of hearing about it. He needs us to realize that the future of our civilization is at stake. More than our economy is on the line.
The other point is that if we will do the work then the solutions we come up with will benefit our nation and then the entire world. It is not just for our children...it is for all the children...everywhere. - Grifffin, on 11/14/2008, -0/+0
He can't pull it off by himself, or he would.
He needs tax credits and other tax incentives from the government to pull it off. That's why he's spending millions to advertise his plan. He's more likely to get support from congress if the employer of the congresspeople (that's you and me, by the way) want natural gas to replace the import of foreign oil. - clockwerkj, on 11/14/2008, -0/+0Its a matter of getting the public to want it. Thats what Pickens is after. He has been putting his money out there for this one, & thats the point. He is basically saying its worth putting money & time into NG & elec based vehicles as a consumer to drive others towards the same goal. BTW kudos to the producers for having the back to back Green episodes to really force the point home.
