- novenator, on 03/18/2009, -1/+47Best of luck to our friends for freedom from across the ocean!
- sandemanport, on 03/17/2009, -0/+35bout time we get some representation ...
- j.carcinogen, on 03/18/2009, -1/+25It isn't the process of voting that is important, but rather who counts the votes. -Joseph Stalin (not verbatim)
- bpwned, on 03/18/2009, -0/+21If you're German, you can support the German Pirate Party with a signature for the upcoming federal elections at http://ich.waehlepiraten.de/
The German Pirates have already collected the signatures needed to enter the European elections, they only need to authenticate them. Let's hope everything goes well... - inactive, on 03/18/2009, -3/+24Keep calling it a "Pirate" party and see how far it gets.
- draxenato, on 03/18/2009, -0/+13It's a shame they don't have a UK presence
- yetAnotherCroc, on 03/18/2009, -0/+13@LondonBridge: Then you need to read up on what the pirate party stands for. Their main battle these days is against privacy intrusions. These intrusions are often allowed in the name of "Fighting piracy" or "Fighting terrorism" but amount to nothing less than protecting corporate interests and stripping away the rights of the common citizen. Sadly enough the pirate party seems to be the only party in Sweden right now that actually cares about that.
In my opinion the government needs to look out for the people first and the corporation second. If the survival of a corporation depends on the removal of the peoples rights then it is the corporation that needs to sacrifice, not the people. There will be other corporations to take its place. There is no similar assurance for the peoples rights. - neocreo, on 03/18/2009, -0/+11You are correct. But also it is a bit edgy, as we are not a typical political party. You won't find born and bred politicians as representatives. It is Pirate in all ideologies.
Personally I suggested "Integrity party" as this seem to be the only party that takes the side of the little man against abuse by the state and corporations alike. - kolobcreek, on 03/18/2009, -5/+15Hell yeah.... I'd vote for them. But only if they promised to wear eye-patches in Parliament.
- Andrwmorph, on 03/18/2009, -0/+9YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR we can!
- woahwoahwoah, on 03/18/2009, -0/+9Represent.
Good luck. - inactive, on 03/18/2009, -1/+9Unfortunately, not everyone over here in 'Yurp cares about European Elections...
And then those same people complain when they don't get anything out of it. - roodammy44, on 03/18/2009, -0/+7Someone here in the UK should field a candidate.
Surely they'd get their deposit back, at the very least - Lutz, on 03/18/2009, -0/+6I actually had an oppurtuity to ask Falkvinge, the leader of the pirate party why they didn't change the name to something like "integrity party" and they apparently get that question a lot, the reason why they don't change the name is because he didn't think they would survive a name change at the moment.
- acc355, on 03/18/2009, -0/+6Den här fanns ju på samma sida: http://politiken.dk/politik/article671025.ece
- mastgrr, on 03/18/2009, -0/+5No.
- pihl, on 03/18/2009, -0/+5Dugg for Danish newspaper publishing articles translated into English.
- mickstephenson, on 03/18/2009, -1/+6@neocreo - Please tell me you aren't this Daniel Hansson
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Hansson - CeeJayDK, on 03/18/2009, -1/+6Er der nogen der har et link til den danske version af denne artikel ?
- MattiHiltunen, on 03/18/2009, -0/+4If I got a cent every time I heard somebody say that... People used to say the same thing about "democratic", you know?
- Anthet, on 03/18/2009, -1/+5They are getting my vote and alot of votes from the pissed off classical liberals in Sweden due to the fiasco that is the current center right government.
- Falconwing, on 03/18/2009, -0/+4Actually, I listen in most places. You can just write my name in any blog post and if there's a question there, I'll respond.
One of the benefits of having a globally unique name. - bpwned, on 03/18/2009, -0/+4Rick, that was creepy O_O
Or kinda super-hero-like... depends...
;-) - CarStan, on 03/18/2009, -0/+4danke, ich wollt grad fragen obs sowas auch bei uns gibt
- longman, on 03/18/2009, -1/+4So start it up?
Easier said then done I know, but at least start moving towards it. - voteme4pope, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3YAhhhrrrrr!
- cherrysweet00, on 03/18/2009, -1/+3For anyone trying to make a living selling their music there's gotta be some sort of protection for authorship.
- waydee, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2ok
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -1/+3If this is what it takes to stop the intellectual property mafia then fine.
We need this in the states too. - TheXboxReview, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Albums give the artist a really small amount per sale. You might as well steal it, and see their live show if you liked the CD.
- 4DFX, on 03/18/2009, -1/+3Is there ANY way I could vote for them as a EU citizen from a country that doesn't have a pirate party?
- DrugAbuseHelp, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Good luck!
- lazerflesh, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Pirates, political party ..... now that's worth moving across the ocean.
- neocreo, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Then start it up :) But with your two party system it will be tough. But keep at it and diversify your political scene.
As we pirates think: Hell needs an enema! - Demand911Truth, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Finally! A political party I can get behind!
- zeabu, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Being good is some protection. There are a lot of people wanting to pay, because they know their support will bring new songs, which they probably also like.
- zeabu, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1bpowned: and that's bad how? Because the commission is not selected by us by direct vote and the parliament is? Please READ the treaty, before swaying an uninformed opinion.
- 4DFX, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Hmm... When are the elections again? :D
- AndiThePirate, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Actually, there is a pirate party in the US
http://www.pirate-party.us - bpwned, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1I did read the treaty. I welcome it (more or less; I do have to criticize some parts of it though, for example that the EU supreme court will not be as independent as I'd wish). That seems to make us at least two, zeabu ;)
- bpwned, on 03/18/2009, -1/+2They skipped the part where you're being told that you're not allowed to complain if you didn't vote. ;)
- royalecraig, on 05/22/2009, -0/+1Do they have anti Swedish Psychological warfare on TV in Sweden.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFx7lSI8srg - royalecraig, on 06/02/2009, -0/+1While the Swedes are worrying about the Price of DVD's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PliODvEGuxI - Ahruman, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1There is a US Pirate Party already. http://www.pirate-party.us/
- AndiThePirate, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Actually there is. You need to get a residence in an EU country that has one, live there for at least 3 Months and then ask to be registered as voter there. At least that's what German law says :)
- Falconwing, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1June 7.
- jitterbits, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1You forgot as their voting base:
people with only one eye, one hand or one leg
parrots - Vodd9, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Arrr!
- jitterbits, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1mickstephenson, he seems to be the right age, so either he IS that Daniel Hansson or he has the same name and birth year as another Daniel Hansson OR he's a 45 year old balding guy from Lubbock desperately trying to make himself feel relevant.
