1) Force us to pay taxes.
2) Use the money from those taxes to fund wars.
3) Use the money from those taxes to wine and dine themselves and friends.
4) Use the leftover money for the things that it's meant for (police, roads, etc...)
5) Spend their time thinking up stupid laws that restrict people from doing perfectly harmless things.
6) Spend their time authorizing strangers to spy on us all through wiretapping.
Continue the list Digg. - maeon3, on 05/08/2009, -0/+21Using phrases like "think of the children" when supporting censorship of the internet is doublethink. The absolute last thing the government is interested in is someone ELSE's children, I have not found one politician who went to become a politician because of the children. Listen up, the government couldn't give a rats ass about your children.
Censorship is not about safety and purity, it's about control. Control that is usually acquired with it's friends money and power.
The first rule of censorship is that you cannot talk about Censorship. It's illegal to know what the censored list is, because it's illegal and people thinking unauthorized thoughts are criminals. - TheEngineer2008, on 05/08/2009, -1/+20iMEGA helped defeat the Commonwealth of Kentucky in a similar case late last year. Ky. won in circuit court, but iMEGA, PPA, and others won the appeal. Ky. is appealing to the Ky. Supreme Court, where they can expect a tough fight for liberty.
- sHockz, on 05/08/2009, -1/+19what a ***** douche bag. what is with these politicians these days? are they just sitting there scheming ways to piss americans off on a day to day basis or something?
ill be the first one to say ***** JOHN WILLEMS - mst3kcrow, on 05/09/2009, -0/+177) Looking down upon people for certain acts and then engaging in said act(s) themselves
8) Siphoning off funds from planned projects for their own pet projects (an add on to #3 and #4)
9) Using falsified claims and data to infringe upon our civil liberties
10) Voting for particular corporate interests to fund their campaign and line their pockets
11) Breaking the law and using their position of power to avoid prosecution
*hands baton to next digger* - halstad, on 05/08/2009, -0/+14I hope this lawsuit is enough to get the state of MN to forget this idea of censoring the internet. I had a babysitter when I was 5 years old. I don't need one to tell what website I can go to.
- GriffCo, on 05/09/2009, -0/+11It's one thing to make gambling(online) illegal, it's another to CENSOR those websites. The day a country censors anything is the day they lose free speech online.
Gambling today, Pornography tomorrow, then criticism of the government. - WoWii, on 05/09/2009, -1/+12I love his music in Star Wars.
- firewall1, on 05/09/2009, -0/+10I swear, politicians really have too much time on their hands. They will try to come up with a law just so they look busy. Soon, we will have laws governing EVERYTHING that we do.
- scriptcoder, on 05/08/2009, -0/+9Not to mention that "censorship" to protect children will never work. They'll just get it from other sources. The best way to protect the children is to excercise effective parenting on them.
But of course if the politicians lost that excuse what would they be left with? Oh, "protecting us from terrorists" that's right. - inactive, on 05/09/2009, -0/+9I'm a Minnesotan, and god damn it's that crazy ***** politician... not the state of Minnesota
Good thing though, it will never get passed ;) - pdoran10, on 05/08/2009, -0/+7Hopefully this will help John Willems start to realize how wrong and unfeasible what he is trying to do is.
- JPFisher55, on 05/08/2009, -0/+7IMO, MN's attempt to censor these websites does not stand a chance in federal court. I hope that Mr. Willems soon withdraws his order.
- mintyfreshC0J0, on 05/08/2009, -0/+7Mr.Willems sounds like a dick. What a joke.
- mizusajt, on 05/09/2009, -0/+7Maybe if we could elect a freakin' senator, things like this wouldn't be a problem. You lost Coleman, now SHUT UP!
- spriggig, on 05/09/2009, -0/+5So, once the hardware is installed to block the casinos and pedophile sites, they figure "what the hell" and start blocking political sites, and religious sites and environmental activist sites and whatever else because once the money is spent everyone stops paying attention.
- krc1, on 05/09/2009, -1/+6You can follow this and other poker issues at the Poker Players Alliance twitter:
http://twitter.com/ppapoker - TheEngineer2008, on 05/09/2009, -0/+5If that's the case, it backfired. No one was conditioned. Rather, people were fired up to defend their liberty.
- Nateon, on 05/09/2009, -0/+5Funny, that's like the first rule of Fight Club!
- bani, on 05/09/2009, -0/+5the very first gambling website that should be blocked is www.lottery.state.mn.us
- PBJaxx, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4This is great news! I am so happy that there are people helping us fight for our rights.
- MacEnvy, on 05/09/2009, -1/+4And after he did such good work on the Star Wars and Superman soundtracks. Pity.
- bjornski, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3With Michele Bachmann telling him what a great idea it is?
Nope. As long as he has vocal supporters, he'll think he's doing the right thing. - blackturtleus, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3Not only that, but if we are truly concerned about the welfare of children we would keep in mind that children grow up to be adults and censorship is intellectual impoverishment. Therefore, we are undermining the potential of all children when we engage in censorship. Put another way, censorship reduces the quality of life for everyone. So it is simply ridiculous to censor for the sake of the children!!!
- bjornski, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3Well, Pawlenty is gearing up for higher office n 2012.
He's trying to appeal to the hardcore conservatives and Christians with this censorship *****. He's already kissing the asses of conservative businessmen, but now he's going after the social conservatives too. - mst3kcrow, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3Not right now you don't.
- lostmessiah, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3Really? I f*cking hate it.
- lostmessiah, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3Of course, the problem with making online gambling illegal is that in order to do so, all people would have to agree that it should be. Otherwise, the only way to make it impossible to get to would be to block out the sites, i.e. censoring the internet.
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3Makes me wonder... do I live in Minneapolis or Beijing?
- TheEngineer2008, on 05/09/2009, -1/+3Huh?
Willems can speak all he wants. He's free to advocate limiting speech, and no one is seeking to stop that. No one is threatening his speech. What Willems can't do is actually limit someone else's speech. - inactive, on 05/09/2009, -0/+2Yep, T-paw is a d-bag.
- johnnyboy239, on 05/09/2009, -0/+2Yeah... you must not be from minnesota... Tim Pawlenty is a conservative douchebag. Actually we seem to have alot of those recently, Pawlenty, Coleman, Bachmann....
In any case, he couldn't give two ***** what anyone thinks or says. - lostmessiah, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1Perhaps not the greatest example of, but yeah, I'd say that's a better word for it. Although, I'd be forced to admit that my original comment in it's context is, I suppose, somewhat ironic.
And from one ***** to another, I've got to say I think you're trying too hard. And no, for what it's worth, I voted Obama. Would have gladly voted McCain in 2000. - bjornski, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1Please tell Tim Pawlenty to GET A DIFFERENT ***** JOB!
Vote this prick out. He's just another "profits before people" douche-bag.
Can't raise taxes, but we'll institute "user fees". Gotta pay for his nearly billion dollar ballpark somehow.
Get rid of this business-first douche-bag.
/Minnesotan
//HATE Pawlenty, Coleman, Bachmann and their ilk. - johnnyboy239, on 05/09/2009, -1/+2Uh huh... well the republican is a conservative moron, and Al Franken has repeatedly proven that he's smart (if very opinionated).
- rollin03, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1This guy needs to get out of office.
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1But think about all the money the Indians casinos will lose to the internet!
- lostmessiah, on 05/09/2009, -1/+2Freedom of expression.
- gnixon70, on 05/11/2009, -0/+1I say if people are stupid to let them throw away their money in this manner, let them. Always thought anti gambling laws in general was prudish to begin with.
- bjornski, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1Pawlenty won't seat him. He'll have to be forced to.
Pawlenty is holding out to help the GOP, in hopes that they'll put him in the VP seat in 2012. - lostmessiah, on 05/09/2009, -1/+2No. Just someone with a healthy sense of what has wrongly come to be known as irony.
*shakes head*
Douchebag? - bjornski, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1It would help if he were seated.
But I really don't expect you to understand that you have to START your job to DO your job. - vatosplace, on 05/09/2009, -1/+1I think it's funny because the Republican couldn't beat a comedian.
- Mrage, on 05/09/2009, -0/+0You have got to be kidding me.
- GriffCo, on 05/09/2009, -2/+2Or just make it illegal for any financial institution to allow transfer of American money to gambling operations.
I'm not saying I condone that, but financial system regulation is better than censorship. - INV3Ntv, on 05/09/2009, -1/+1The web can censor itself
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -1/+1Not really a comedian, a writer. He just happened to perform one of his bits.
Either way, we still don't know if he won. I voted for him, but I have no clue who won. - bjornski, on 05/09/2009, -2/+1So what do you call it, wit?
And no, I'm more of an *****, but thanks for noticing. - bjornski, on 05/09/2009, -2/+1Then why did you censor yourself?
