- BrownMoses, on 06/09/2008, -1/+7It's right what he says in that article, the best way to stiffle a community is over moderation, because all you end up with is a handful of posters making 100's of posts a day each, and developing a community that reacts aggresively to any criticism, making it extremely hard for that community to make any new recruits. You just need to look at hillaryis44 to see what happens to the mental state of people when you discourage intelligent debate, and censor anything critical of your candidate.
- TheRawn, on 06/09/2008, -8/+12MyBO has one more registered user now. Somehow I think this is going to be a fairly common reaction to reading this post...
- alapoet, on 06/09/2008, -3/+7As someone who was already a registered user of My.BarackObama.com, I'm dismayed, but not surprised, that anti-Obama forces are trying to "make something" out of a user-generated post that does NOT represent the opinions of anyone affiliated with the campaign. Sad.
- shackbar, on 06/09/2008, -0/+4Uh, I haven't seen the RNC or the McCain campaign go after Obama for this. They seem to understand the online landscape better than some conservative webloggers.
- Disregard, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3When exactly did running for POTUS mean you HAVE to start running a public blogging service anyway? It seems a bit of a liability.
- HopeMonger, on 06/09/2008, -3/+6I have been reading the blog since August. Anyone can post there as anyone supporting anything... even the guys from fox signed up one night. To hold Sen. Obama or JSM responisble for crap some idiot posts in a blog is rediculous
- daltonsbriefs, on 06/09/2008, -1/+3Not sure I agree totally with Patrick's article, but as a free speech conservative, I do not condemn Barack for what others say, uneless of course they are part of his campaign. The opposite of the problem the Ron Paul types have, where they have some good points, but their leader is off on many points. http://reasonbellpundit.blogspot.com/2008/06/socia ...
- LKnight, on 06/09/2008, -6/+8You always have such issues with a site that is not tightly controlled and monitored: not only does free speech include differing opinions, but sometimes people deliberately misrepresent themselves to cause controversy.
On the up side, if this is what they have to attack Obama with, the McCain camp and the RNC can just save themselves time and money by scaling back their efforts now. I suppose that would undermine FOX ratings, though, so I don't expect them to admit the fight for the White House isn't the point. - Tangaroa, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1It's to promote his message of being for the wider community rather than being for himself or the political higher-ups, so he creates a site for the wider community to use as a goodwill gesture. Of course, the wider community includes a few village idiots.
- k8cpa, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1Well Put Pat.... I think every right winger should read this post.
- MoofTheStoof, on 06/09/2008, -10/+8Took an act of will to digg a conservative article, but he's correct: all the false smears directed at Obama get jujitsu'd and end up recruiting more donors / activists for his campaign.
I don't know if Mr. Ruffini's pleas to adopt a similar model by Republicans will make much difference, though. Not many people still willing to be activists for the bad guys. Too many people have seen the national devastation absolute Republican rule has wrought. Those few years where Congress was Republican run and acted like a wholly owned subsidiary of the Executive Branch plus the last couple years of Republican filibustering of any positive legislation have wrecked the country. The nation is correctly equating "Republican" with "failure" and the usual Atwater-Rove tactics of lie/smear/lie aren't working, anymore. - zephyear, on 06/09/2008, -6/+2bet it was a right wing blogger who made the post
