- sirbe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11"Additionally, a senior Bush administration official earlier said, "I can only assume his remarks must have been mistranslated. Those comments obviously don't reflect our policy.""
Mistranslated?! The guy was speaking in Arabic, what's to translate. - tont0r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Looks like someone got a knock on their door after making that comment.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yeah, it's a shame he had to retract his statement. I thought it was pretty brave of him to say it in the first place, even if it is undoubtedly true. I mean, no-one even knows why they felt the need to attack Iraq in the first place!

- happyperson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Don't worry, the Germans waited till the end of the war to start apologizing and saying how wrong they were. So providing this war never ends, (and who says it has to?) nobody will ever have to admit to arrogance and stupidity.
- smacg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4He got paid a visit by Karl Rove's Sodomizing Stormtroopers.
- nvukobratovic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You don't really think he *folded* ? Perhaps it came to him (in the middle of the night?) how gravely he had misspoken. And when reconnected with his sense of patriotism, he just made that statement -- on his own..?
(as if) - fordicus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7why produce your own propaganda when senior US state department diplomats do it for you.
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2*****, why can't this administration just sit down and be honest with themselves? it's not going to be of any benefit to the 'terrorists', but if you admit your mistakes and realize that what you've been doing isn't working, then a solution can be found. doing the same thing (like Bush says "Stay the course") is only going to make thew situation worse and worse and worse...
- kyssk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1unbelievable....
say anything get the "limelight" and when you are about to face the charges just say thats not what I said it got "lost in translation" ...
jerks without the balls !! - jcjface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I mean if your going to make a statement, stand by it, and don't chicken out when it hits to press... stand up and take ownership for your words. Like anyone believes he was misquoted or his statement was taken out of context. He said it, he should stand by it.
- drjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Simple logic of the bush administration, any statement that could be construed as true must have been a misstatement.
- Eljefedeath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What, exactly, do you mean? US free speech? Arab TV free speech? Free speech within the state department? What are you talking about?
- Koosebane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think this jackass should have used a translator instead of fumbling around in Arabic for a half hour.

- happyperson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I didn't mean to draw parallels between america and germay, i only intended to illustrate that the acknowledgment of mistakes tend normally to come at the end of a war, and that theres a chance this one won't have an end.
sorry for any offense caused. and thank you for pointing out my stupidity. and also thank you and the rest of america for win WWII for us, it was good of you to save us like that.
My grandfather died in WW II waiting for american to decide weather or not they were going to join in.

- MackBolan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+01. This state department official is an idiot. No excuses there.
2. Which war? World War II? If you are comparing America to WWII Germany and if you are from the UK as your profile shows you should be ashamed of yourself. Ask your grandparents where you'd be if the evil American empire didn't sacrifice it's soldiers for the world in the 40's. Talk about arrogance and stupidity. Regardless of your stance on world affairs saying things like this just make you sound like a dope.
And for the record I am aware that the sacrifice America made was not just to bail out the UK as well as of all the other factors involved. - Obsidian743, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3So I take it you either think you're cool or think you'll get more digs by throwing in the pop-culture Colbert reference.
