- FIGJAM, on 10/12/2007, -28/+60Fantastic. And it perfectly sums up the "truthers" : "One-fourth of the population is retarded and wants to believe conspiracy theories". Perfect!!
- idreamincode, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37I loved the episode. The only problem I have with anti-conspiracy theorists is that the government did try to plan something EXACTLY like 9/11 way back in 1962.

"Justification for US Military Intervention in Cuba ...including simulated or real state sponsored acts (such as hijacked planes) on U.S. and Cuban soil "
Basically Operation Northwoods was our government planning to make it look like Cuba was attacking us, then we could retaliate. The intent is there for our Gov't to attack our own citizens and start a war. - dargon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33Personally, I i'm hoping for a Jack Thompson vs Eric Cartman episode ;)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31The plane was a transformer, it turned into a car and landed in the parking lot

- mhaluza, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28Because the 911 controversy just popped up yesterday??? Its been over 5 years since it happened and the subsequent conspiracies cropped up.
How is that "latching on?" - Diggasaurus, on 10/12/2007, -11/+34Basically, they didn't really make fun of them as much as I thought they would. They even promoted 911truth.org, which is a real site and those people take this stuff really seriously. They just gave so much promotion to that site, as the original guy said at the top, the largest coverage so far.
After watching it, I think they will actually get more people to believe the theories, after of course 911truth.org is spammed and trolled to death by most the country. - techweenie1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23uh where have you been for the past 10 seasons?
- stubadub, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25I think it's surprising how many people confuse questionable response to an event with actually planning the event.
I also find it surprising how many people claim our government is capable of conspiring to commit an act which requires many participants, precision execution and complete closure, only to accuse the same government of ineptitude and an inability to plan or execute minutes later. - jetjaguar, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26@CallMeGoat
Wrong, Matt and Trey have never claimed to be Republicans. Based on my own observations of the show and various interviews I have heard, I'd say that if they lean towards any party it would be the Libertarians. - willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18The best part is how instead of picking sides, they usually show how screwed up all sides of an issue are.
- grizwald, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21you realize that south park is making fun of websites like yours right? not sure why you would put this on your website and point it out to everyone.

- Muyoso, on 10/12/2007, -10/+24You need to rewatch the episode. It rips the Truther's to *****. Listen to what Cartman says during his little song, its hilarious. Something to the effect of "I'm not gonna let the truth cloud my logic."

- mhaluza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13south park prides itself on making social commentaries on current events. Thats what makes it so funny yet so strangely true in some cases. I was simply referring to this particular episode which DOES NOT attach to any recently made news headline that I am aware of
- akzidenzgrotesk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13because the world of warcraft episode was totally ripped from the headlines...
oh wait.
im pretty sure trey and matt just make up shows based on whatever they happens to catch their interest when a show is due to be written. headlines, video games, tom cruise, whatever. if you dont like your comedy based on current events, im not sure what you're doing watching comedy central anyway. - awm4, on 10/12/2007, -12/+24Retard

From your link: "While South Park co-creator Matt Stone is a registered Republican, co-creator Trey Parker is actually a registered member of the Libertarian Party."
So I'm half-right. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13At least. Probably more. Hell they elected Bush twice didn't they?

- jibbityjab, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13It's funny how people take the content of a SP episode so seriously. The Mr. Mackey poop comments had me rolling. Anyway, it doesn't seem that anyone is mentioning the biggest thing about this episode. They gave 911Truth.org tens of thousands of dollars worth of free advertising. The episode has aired twice so far and each time traffic to the site has be so high that the servers crashed. I doubt that the SP guys didn't realize they were sending thousands and thousands of people to that website.

- rlbigfish, on 10/12/2007, -13/+23First of all, the episode misrepresented the movement entirely. They made it easy to shrug the idea of conspiracy off by telling you that the people who believe it are "retards", and they can do it with ease when the only points they bring up are the "hole's not big enough" and "military jets with explosives in them" ideas.
I absolutely love South Park and I own every season available on DVD, and I must say that this episode sends a LOT of mixed signals.
While it gets out the basic consensus (that the people that believe it was a government conspiracy are retards), they also do a good job of explaining what motive the government would have had to do such a thing (endless war in the Middle East --> Money). I also thought it was good that they brought up False Flag terror because this is real life stuff.
The turd in the urinal and Mr. Mackey's constant continuation of the joke sends the message "Let it go." There's 2 points for the anti-conspiracy crowd: You're retards, let it go. We understand that's what you're saying, but you're not being fair. It would be easy to let go if the Government wouldn't have stonewalled an investigation for months and underfunded it, and if the 9/11 families themselves weren't saying that they want a new investigation, but that's the way it is. The Truth Movement is not going to go away because South Park says they're retards.
They said throughout the episode that 1/4 people believe it was a conspiracy and therefore 25% of the country are retards. However, the last poll taken on whether it was believed that the Government knew of the attacks and failed to act concluded that around 36% of the adult US population believed that is the case. That's now well over 1/4th and even more than 1/3rd. Also, the fact that they actually put 911truth.org on the guy's T-shirt is another mixed signal because they could have put anything on that shirt to make us seem more retarded: Elvis lives, David Icke for President, anything. Instead, they give light to one of the main sites for research.
Overall, I think they ARE saying that if you believe it was a Government conspiracy, you're a retard. But some of those mixed signals are impossible to ignore, especially the T-shirt. I don't blame Matt and Trey for anything but it would be nice if they wouldn't have clung to the worst arguments anyone has to offer (most people avoid talking about the Pentagon because it's a very loose board.)
Also, and lastly (I'm sorry this is so long), I think it's more retarded to think the Government would make the 9/11 conspiracy websites than it is to suggest they could have pulled the attacks off. George Bush even says in the episode "it was only the most flawlessly pulled off conspiracy, ever." Is it more likely that amateur, foreign pilots could flawlessly execute such an attack, or the group who has control over air defense systems? - Hermitwise, on 10/12/2007, -11/+20I don't believe our government did it, but I don't understand why people call people who think something else is called a "retard". Is it likely that it was a government conspiracy? no, but it's not impossible either. They did have a motive for doing it, they had the opportunity (all you would really have to do is fake the hijacking of the planes, that's not beyond the realm of possibility for our government and then blame it on Bin laden), so why is it so utterly insane? I personally like the idea of people questioning things, it shouldn't be frowned upon.
- goodegg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I'm a retard.
- soarin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12We are the most powerful country in the world, and we spend $500 Billion a year on our Military,
So you gotta wonder how the Pentagon can't defend itself from a jet plane with an hour's
warning and an air force base 12 miles down the road.
That's like like letting a poodle chew off your leg with an hour's warning and a shotgun in your lap.
Sure, everyone keeps saying incompetence but it is strange that the incompetence is always in the White House's favor. The day before 9/11, Rumsfeld announced that the Pentagon had lost 2.3 TRILLION DOLLARS (over a quarter of today's National Debt), and the next day the section of the Pentagon with the records and accountants looking for the money gets blown up, so they'll never find out where it went. Whoops! - jetjaguar, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16@willcode4beer

ha ha ha.
though i understand 98% of this stuff is total bunk, there are just a few things that'd shut up the theorests if it were released. one thing would be to just release those videos of the pentagon crash. there's like 3-4 cameras pointed in that direction from places nearby like a gas station and a hotel, and the best we get is a few frames of some parking time lapse deal? just show the stupid tapes and get it over with. - mwilding, on 10/12/2007, -19/+26Loose Change has been debunked a zillion times
- satipip, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Southpark usually makes fun of everyone and everybody and every political direction....
Southpark on 9/11 was funny as well and at the same time correct on many things. It was good to show the www.911truth.org URL on that T-shirt for more than 7 minutes during the episode. It was good to portray the "truther" with the American flag as a good patriot. It was good to describe many people saying "I get a clue." .
However, one thing they didn't get right was about the "25% of retards" who believe into an alternative conspiracy theory. The fact is, that by now it must be about half of the US populate who are retards like that, and more than half in the rest of the world. (The last opinion poll a few months ago showed that more than 36% of US citizens didn't believe the Government version, and thought 9/11 was an "inside job".)
And let's be clear: the government's 9/11 theory is a conspiracy theory as well !!!
It is the theory, that 19 muslims were clever as hell...
...and picked that single date in the year when NORAD and other state agencies were busy running a series of military and anti-terrorism drills (so that this would lead to a confusion for the real attack),
...armed themselves with boxcutters,
...were then able to undercut airport security in different airports,
...entered 4 different flights without leaving a trace on the official passenger lists,
...wrestled down 4 different flight crews (which included some well-trained ex-GIs and ex-Marines),
...outsmarted the most sophisticated airial defense system of the world for 2 hours (which was unable to locate the hijacked aircraft and scramble fighters towards them),
...fooled the FAA air traffic controllers for 2 hours
...and successfully concluded 75% of their attacks by piloting 3 airliners fullspeed into their targets (where they even had to pull off some of the most stunning near-aerobatic flight manouvers which were ever flown with civilian airliners).
And I'm not even talking about how Allah must have helped them to invalidate some of the most basic laws of physics for that day and place: bringing down a quarter of a mile high tower, one of the most solid high-rise steel structures ever erected, in a mere ~11 seconds [that is very close to free-fall speed, ya know?] without the help of explosives, just based on 58 minutes of fires in 5-10 different floors -- all that is really, really a miracle.
If it is clever and smart to believe _that_ conspircacy theory, I prefer to be a retard and not believe it.
Hey, dude: I'm even proud of being one of these "retards" that doesn't believe that Bush story. But then, I was one of the retards that never believed the "Weapons of Mass Destructions" (WMD) theory either. Or that Mr. Bush and his crownies are all honest guys who don't steal elections.
But before you now start to worship my consistency of being a retard: I've to admit, that for 4 years I _did_ believe the official conspiracy theory ("Bin Laden sitting in an Afghan cave sent out 19 hijackers and commandeered them to pull off 9/11 because they all hate American liberty"), and I never did look closely at any details of the story before someone showed my "Loose Change, 2nd Edition".
Yours,
A Proud Retard Supporting the 9/11 Truth Movement - Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12ringo wrote: "I haven't seen a single valid debunking of Loose Change yet."
Look for the "Screw Loose Change" video. Most of it is merely pointing out that "Loose Change" leaves out very important information, makes apples-to-oranges comparisons, and takes quotes out of context. That is the majority of content in Loose Change: deception, intentional or otherwise, set to a cool soundtrack... - feylanks, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13oh ok let me get this right.

Bush just sat there in that classroom when he got the news. Come on!! Your country is under attack and as a leader you just sit there? You didnt tell them "Scramble fighters to the scene". Maybe that would have stopped the 2nd plane.
Bush has wanted a war in iraq since before 9/11. He has wanted to topple Saddam. They LIED about WMDs to get us over there. The administration said that the only way to get us to go to war in Iraq is if something big like a new pearl harbor happened. Now that we are there, Bush has publicly stated that 9/11 and Iraq have nothing to do with eachother. So why are we there if he tried to make us feel so threatened by these terrorists? Come on people!!! We have wasted so much money and lives on this war and why?
Maybe rent these movies and then come back and talk to me. We have all been mislead.

- geomon, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14Lack of evidence is not evidence.
The building went down due entirely to the reasons given in the "official" (read: witnessed by nearly 2 billion people world-wide) reasons. Two planes hit the twin towers and the fuel in the planes (which were scheduled for transcontinental flights and therefore *full* of jet fuel) set fire to the interior of the buildings. The fuel and the building materials weakened the structures leading to collapse.
The *physics* of the collapse of the twin towers has been covered in several engineering journals and the March 2005 issue of Popular Science. The fact that you choose to ignore science in favor of conspiracy theories says a great deal about your distrust for your government. -
