Libtards never learn from history! Iraq CAN be a good country with some help!- PURPLEDRINK, on 03/22/2008, -6/+8are you're a complete ***** retard? the russians made it to berlin before we did and won WWII due to their multiple victories.
- DavidBGie, on 03/22/2008, -1/+2We waited for the Russians to enter Berlin. Learn some history before name calling.
- zeabu, on 03/22/2008, -0/+3take a map of Germany of 1945, you'll see YOU are wrong. The idea was to meet in Berlin, but the Sovjets moved on too fast. In fact, Russia was already moving towards Germany when the Allied forces tried their first D-day (in Italy, which failed). If that would have failed we would not be talking about the EU, but about the EUSSR. Same happened in the east. Nigasaki and Hiroshima happened because Japan agreed to surrender "at the end of the month" but, Russia was blitzing Manchuria, and would not have stopped there. Russia was also out for worlddominance, don't forget that. The cold war prevented that, or the fact both parties placed themselves in a deathlock by inventing the Atombomb.
It is also the reason that none of the nuclear powers has been attacked by another country, retalition would be to hard.
For the Bush-fans: Al-quaeda is NOT a country. Not is it linked to any. Afghanistan's Taleban does support it, as some tribes in Pakistan too. So the Afghan war is not discutable, the lies arround Iraq are.
And after 5 years the GOP still hasn't learnt. McCain said Iran was supporting Al-quaeda in Iraq, one being Sunnite, other being Shiite (quite die-hard ennemies one of the other). - bsurette, on 03/22/2008, -5/+1What the hell does it matter who got there first? Russia was losing - badly - until we got in the war. Both sides contributed. Russia didn't have a choice - they fought hard and sacrificed much of a generation. The US could have chilled - we didn't. We also suffered, though proportionally far far less.
- zeabu, on 03/23/2008, -0/+2@bsurette: The retreat of the Sovjets was strategic. What this provoked for the Germans, was 1000's and 1000's km of land with NOTHING. No food, no housings, no petrol for their panzers, and most importantly -20ÂșC and worse at winters. The Germans where stopped in 43.
The US entered the war with Germany AFTER the latter declared war at the first. The Germans could have won the war, were it not for Hitler wanting to occupy Stalingrad, instead of going for oil-fields. The Germans had the first airplanes with jet engines, they never aired because lack of petrol. Because of that, they didn't rule the air, and as a consequence, they started to lose land and sea too.
The US wanted to chill, they did not consider Nazi-germany a real problem.

- BeardedClem, on 03/21/2008, -17/+5 First of all, Impeach him for what exactly? Barring the glut of tin-foil hat B.S. that goes around here about the jerk, What exactly is there that would warrant such an action?
Secondly, even if the guy took $10 million in cash in a briefcase with the Halliburton logo on the side and national TV it'll take longer than a year to get through the impeachment process and he'd be out of office anyway.
What I'm waiting to see is when our new Democratic president does jack-all to get us out of Iraq what opinion most of Digg will have about his/her actions then. Because if you think Obama or Clinton will pull our forces out any time soon, you're a fool.- VinceNoir, on 03/22/2008, -0/+6So you would stand by the employee who embezzles a few million dollars, puts a company in the financial hole, but has an iron-clad out, so he doesn't have to suffer any consequences. Then you would chastise any successor as being incapable of bailing the company out of the incredible financial straits his predecessor left it in? Unless you happened to like the new guy because he holds similar views to yours and then you'd be willing to cut him slack? Yeah... I thought so.
- BeardedClem, on 03/22/2008, -5/+2Tilt at that strawman all you want if it makes you feel better. I'm just making the point that impeachment is pretty useless at this point other than to give leftists something to stroke to. The Bush administration is just one symptom of a disease this country has had since the early 20th century. We are all paying the price for giving too much power over our lives and property to a few oligarchs in DC. Republicans and Democrats are one and the same, we're getting screwed either way the position they put us in while we take it in the rear is really the only difference they offer.
- hilikus34, on 03/22/2008, -5/+1Yeah these people don't realize that we are in Iraq for the long haul, and that pulling out now will only destabilize the region further. We leave, and some crackpot Islamofacist takes control. It doesn't seem to matter to a lot of diggers that Islamic militants hate non-muslims regardless of how much ass kissing and pandering the liberal establishment throws out. I think all the confusion comes from ppls poor understanding of some Islamic principles...mainly that all non-believers are sub-humans meant for slavery or death.
- kashk5, on 03/22/2008, -0/+3I gotta commend you on your stunning summation of Islamic beliefs. Bravo man, bravo...
/sarcasm - thetalkingbrain, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2if this war would have never happened in the first place OR would have been taken care of in a correct fashion, instead of letting everyone run lawless through out the country, firing the entire iraqi police guard and giving these people weapons by not securing weapons caches on the onset of the war, we would be ALOT better off. ...not to mention amazingly less in indebted to china. think about what we could have spent the TRILLION dollars on here in this country. how much good we could have done with that money for our own failing country/economy. so what your really saying is "islamics are crazy! if we leave we will have even more terrorists to fight!" how many terrorists do you think we're creating by imprisoning innocent people, murdering innocent children, destroying families, not to mention waging a holy war on a religion with a population 5-7 times as great as our entire country's population(1 in 5 people in the world is a follower of islam! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Islam ... yes but we are STABILIZING the region...YESSSSSS I SEE NOW! WE ARE THE GOOD GUYS! Stop living in fear and start living. murder, war, death, revenge...creates problems, solving nothing.

- str1fe, on 03/21/2008, -6/+44One of the major rules of leadership is to listen to those you are leading. Cheney must have fallen asleep during that lesson.
- phufufoo, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3Depends on where he is trying to lead us. Doing a good job of leading us blindly into something we might or might not want. Or more like tugging us on a leash.
- artliquide, on 03/21/2008, -0/+11Depends on whether the "leader" is interested in actual democracy or wants to be a dictator
- craigatkinson, on 03/22/2008, -3/+4We don't hire leaders so that they listen to our every demand. We hire leaders to do the right thing. Now whether Dick Cheney and Pres. Bush did the right thing is another issue, but when the reporter told him how many people disagreed with him, Cheney made the correct response. . . "So!" The reason pure democracy doesn't work (and the reason we don't have a pure democracy) is because people are generally stupid and don't know what's good for them. We elect people that we believe to be wise (or at least we should), and we do so with the belief that they will make right decisions, decisions we couldn't make as a populous since we are generally incompetent. Bush is an idiot unfortunately, we didn't vote in a wise man, on the other hand, we were fortunate that he had Cheney with him because Cheney is wise.
- str1fe, on 03/22/2008, -1/+4I didn't say leaders should follow our every command, I said that they should listen. When 2/3 of people want something, and George Bush only has something like a 19% approval rating, Cheney just coming out and saying "So?" is arrogant.
- craigatkinson, on 03/22/2008, -1/+1Like I said, what does it matter what we think? We are swayed by whatever the media feeds us that day. When the war started the media was behind it so we were all behind it. Later the media decided they didn't like it, so now we aren't behind it anymore. When Bush and Cheney started this war, they were doing our will. They are not in a position now to back out of now, no matter how much we want them to.
Of course when the war first started I was 100% against it. I thought it was a stupid idea, but I found no one behind me then. Now that I see what an impossible situation we are in and I realize the wisdom in staying. Now no one supports me in that. This is why I say, people are generally incompetent. 100% of people could be against something, and that still might not have any bearing on whether its right or wrong.- str1fe, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1I realize that we're not in a position to back out now. I think I'm rare among the war opposers in that I want to pull out, but realize we can't do it right now. We need time to finish what we're doing and clean up our mess. I think some time towards the end of 2010, or even early 2011, sounds reasonable.
Also, I think you missed the point I'm trying to make. We need to pull out of Iraq, yes, but we can't right away. The fact that Cheney flat out doesn't care about what the American people think is what bothers me.
- str1fe, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1I realize that we're not in a position to back out now. I think I'm rare among the war opposers in that I want to pull out, but realize we can't do it right now. - Gorgamel, on 03/22/2008, -14/+3I concur. However if it's not this, its how masturbatingly cool some Apple product is, or some slanted stories about how Obama is beating Hillary.
- AvidPreatorian, on 03/22/2008, -2/+4lol how do u make this about apple ya dumbass
- MaxMWood, on 03/22/2008, -1/+2rofl leave him alone, just because he knows just as much as I do that no one gives a ***** about hilary or obama.

- Hangly, on 03/22/2008, -3/+5I don't believe that statistic for a second.
- DeskFlyer, on 03/22/2008, -0/+3Actually you have reason not to because I was wrong; my estimate took into account for all people including non-adults. So let's redo the math:
Population of USA ('07): 301,139,947 x 31% (Bush's current approval rating) = 93,353,383 x -20% (people under the age of 15) = 74,682,707 minus the people who are 15-17 and you probably come up with somewhere around 70 million people. That's still a lot of morons.
- DeskFlyer, on 03/22/2008, -0/+3Actually you have reason not to because I was wrong; my estimate took into account for all people including non-adults. So let's redo the math:

It's hard to argue with someone that has such a distorted view of reality, with concepts like heaven and hell. The worst is that they even misinterpret their holy book, for "turn the other cheek" means "let's bomb the ***** out of some country we really don't know anything about"

Signed,
A Brit- RRJackson, on 03/21/2008, -22/+3We won't be having Obama for president, but we are thinking of sending him on a nice, long vacation to Gitmo.
- trunicated, on 03/21/2008, -4/+34Actually, the picture is kinda biased.
Let's take some 2004 election results, and make the picture a bit more accurate.
http://i28.tinypic.com/2sblape.jpg
There, much better.- dragonboyxp, on 03/21/2008, -2/+4Ya, he's right
- randomm, on 03/22/2008, -4/+2Wait. So you are saying that four year old data is somehow "more accurate"? What were the approval ratings. Lets look more closely.
"On July 11, 2004, only 43 percent of those polled approved of how President Bush is handling the war in Iraq and 55 percent disapproved."
- http://uspolitics.about.com/od/campaign2004/l/bl_a ...
On a CBS News Poll on March 15-18 of 2008 only 30 percent approved of how President Bush is handling the war in Iraq and 65 percent disapproved.
-http://www.pollingreport.com/iraq.htm- trunicated, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1Yes, it is more accurate. Where the original picture would show a seemingly 0% approval rating, my image stands closer to your numbers. Bush won the 2004 election with 50.7% of the popular vote (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_preside ... If we assume that when people vote for him, they're approving of him, then 50% of the people that matter (aka the voters, those that will do something with their voice, which are the people generally used in polls) approved of him, Your numbers show that it now 43%. So, I guess if I give you the 2% margin of error/apathetic people polled, then you can go ahead and take back Georgia.
I said more accurate, I never said dead on. My picture may not have been a ringer, but at least I hit the sandbox.

- Gyre23, on 03/22/2008, -3/+1Except this isn't weighted by the population in those states, which taken together is actually the majority of the US population.
- brainboy77, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1holy crap, kerry just got those few states. are you kidding me? sonofabitch.
- dragonboyxp, on 03/21/2008, -2/+4Ya, he's right
- bsmang, on 03/22/2008, -4/+4I agree with you 100% bumcheekcity. I've got my fingers crossed and I'll be here in PA voting for him next month. There is a depressingly significant amount of racism around though, and a lot of people who think Bill Clinton was great and think that Hillary will be an extension of Bill. I hope Obama does well.
- warriorscot, on 03/22/2008, -1/+3I have to say Bill was cool, he was old school, Cigars and blowjobs in the oval office bring back the days when US presidents had style, Hillary not so cool no style or charisma which is more important than ability when it comes to getting elected to most government positions the world over.
- GhostyBoy, on 03/22/2008, -2/+5He can't end the war even if he wants to. The corporate interests that profit from this bloody venture now control more of the U.S. than the President does. You can bury me, but Iraq will still be going for years yet unless the people do something about it.
- Izult, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1The Democrats aren't any better. They're just as interested in preserving the establishment, not delivering on their promises, and not listening to their constituent base as the Republicans are.

I'm fine with people on both sides of the issue, because I think there are valid points to both stay in and get out, sadly noone pays attention to either and the only thing you hear are 'LETS GET THEM BROWN MOTHER *****" and "NO BLOOD FOR OIL" idiots who don't do any research or critical thought.

it's apparent to me that your language (read: "no" for "know") isn't the only thing about you that's abbreviated. - hilikus34, on 03/22/2008, -9/+2Lol. There you go. That's more like it. I was waiting for someone to catch that.
- ShinRaTDR, on 03/22/2008, -0/+7It's this thing called sarcasm ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm).
Lots of people are sarcastic, that doesn't make you clever. Especially when it isn't entertaining or funny. - hilikus34, on 03/22/2008, -9/+1I never said I was trying to be entertaining, clever, or funny. I was simply making an observation, which so far has proven to be true.
- ShinRaTDR, on 03/22/2008, -1/+6And then took a jab at someone for a lack of cleverness in their comment, a comment clearly meant to be blunt and to the point, so I assumed that you thought his cleverness wasn't up to your level, your level being non-existent.
- hilikus34, on 03/22/2008, -9/+0Of course I would take a jab at someone for calling me a *****. I have yet to use any derogatory language in these posts, and am still getting my point across. Calling someone who disagrees with you a ***** does show a lack of "cleverness" and intelligence. All b/c I made a comment about Obama fanboys. My original comment must have been on the mark if it raised your ire this much.

- artliquide, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3What's odd to me is that many Bush supporters live in some of the poorest areas of the nation. I guess they don't get it.
- Spliced88, on 03/22/2008, -0/+5There is a reason for that. Those with the lowest incomes are also usually the most poorly educated, especially on politics. I'm not trying to stereotype, but that is just how it is in this country. Sadly enough, the current administration knows this and exploits it.
- artliquide, on 03/22/2008, -0/+3Good point. Just another illustration of the selfish bordering on evil attitudes of some people in power.
- kashk5, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1Also because those under the poverty line don't have to pay taxes, so they don't give a ***** where other peoples' money is going
- artliquide, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1I don't know about that. I prefer the ignorance answer. If people who have money and do pay taxes care about funding social programs and establishments (schools, hospitals, etc) there have to be people who don't pay taxes who care about it too...if they know the difference.
- animeguru, on 03/22/2008, -0/+3Easy, the president is just as ***** stupid as they are, so they see him as a man of the people instead of some pompous ass.

The whole thing is a joke, and there isn't a ***** thing we can do.- HeavySausage, on 03/21/2008, -3/+3But everyone knows that the UK isn't really that funny.
- artliquide, on 03/21/2008, -1/+3Well, Dick doesn't have any control over the UK (or does he?), so it's not really about what the UK thinks. Sometimes I wish you guys could vote too though ;)
- Isandunk, on 03/22/2008, -0/+7"so it's not really about what the UK thinks" True.
I was trying to highlight the disdain for the invasion from a viewpoint from across the pond :)
"Well, Dick doesn't have any control over the UK (or does he?)"
Who knows, I wouldn't put it past our government - the White House says Jump, Westminster says How High? - artliquide, on 03/22/2008, -0/+6Yeah, all of the Blair/Bush chumminess a few years back was scary.
- Isandunk, on 03/22/2008, -0/+7"so it's not really about what the UK thinks" True.
- Ricemanstm, on 03/21/2008, -7/+1"Thousands protesting"? A small percentage to be sure, maybe that's why y'all were ignored.
- Isandunk, on 03/22/2008, -0/+8Not so small. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2765041.stm
"Police said it was the UK's biggest ever demonstration with at least 750,000 taking part, although organisers put the figure closer to two million."
Tbh, i don't think it would of mattered if literally the whole country marched on Westminster - wouldn't of made a difference anyway.- Rastline, on 03/22/2008, -3/+0So because the UK protested we should pay attention... ***** that *****.
Millions Protested the French ***** up called Vietnam but we didn't withdrawal for a few years and a draft later. Oh and those millions were Americans not from the UK.
If 2 million people protested China's censorship of the Internet would China listen?- zeabu, on 03/22/2008, -0/+3China is not a democracy, they don't try to lie about it. The US still tries to keep up appearances.
- Isandunk, on 03/27/2008, -0/+2I wasn't suggesting that the USA should listen to the UK protestors - I was simply saying the *UK* government should of listened.

- artliquide, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1I like this image more than the one where AZ is missing from the dissenting masses though. Actually, one thing I can thank this administration for is helping to diminish AZ's traditional republican majority.
- ShinRaTDR, on 03/22/2008, -1/+2I guess you will have to look to something other than a random cartoon trying to make a political point to gather statistics. Damn irresponsible cartoonists.
- zeabu, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2I don't count 303,586,000 men in this picture, not even half. So, it's not exagurated. Underestimated, maybe.

Signed,

- omegaredIX, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2Its sad that you would leave the Republican party instead of stand up for true republican beliefs. - zeabu, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1As long as you keep voting for the Republican party, you insist you agree. As a sign to them you could not vote for them. If enough people do that, they will recognise they should take another aproach.

- artliquide, on 03/21/2008, -0/+7what rock have you been living under? The war is not far from over, and this administration believes it will continue for a long time because they refuse to set a solid timeline or strategies to get it done and get out. Apparently (not that this wasn't clear from the beginning), what 2/3 of this country thinks doesn't matter. They're spending our money, so yeah, it is a big deal that Cheney doesn't care how the majority of people would like our money to be spent.
- ShinRaTDR, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1LOL, you sound like Colbert, except serious. People debate over history all the time, and this is isn't even over yet for ***** sake.
- warriorscot, on 03/22/2008, -0/+3To fight a war you need an opposing soveriegn army, its an occupation although if you really wanted you could stretch it to a peacekeeping operation but Americans and Peacekeeping go together about as well as Homexexuality and Iran.

- Darmichar, on 03/22/2008, -1/+3An upside down flag is a sign of distress, i.e. the nation is in distress.
- rye425, on 03/22/2008, -0/+5Upsidedown flag is an international sign of distress, thats why they're like that.
- mal1964, on 03/22/2008, -2/+2We are not in distress, Sudan is in distress.
- Slackdragon, on 03/22/2008, -4/+4Exactly, mal1964. Some Americans, these days, seem to be unable to stand any kind of pressure. While I'm not trying to trivialize the individual trauma anyone goes through, if any nation amplifies the individual agony as America seems to have done, it runs the real risk of becoming paralyzed.
I've said it before: People can't handle the MINOR nosebleed that is the Iraq war. True, WWII was shorter, but it was a meat-grinder. More soldiers died in a MONTH of WWII than all of the Iraq war. People today are far too pussified to handle something like that.
Back then, my grandparents were actually sacrificing their way of life to win a conflict. At home and on the front line. At home they were cutting back on meat and sugar and aluminum and other day-to-day goods. Today people are bitching and whining every single day about a war that doesn't impact their lives a SINGLE bit other than what they read on a blog or an RSS feed. They still have their iPod and their iPhone and sip their latte at Starbucks and Digg up stories on their new Macbook Air. Oh, the sacrifice of our generation! My heart bleeds!
We're a bunch of spoiled pussies who wouldn't know how to sacrifice a thing for the greater good if we had to.
Distress? Not even close.- DemonWasp, on 03/22/2008, -1/+3The key difference is that WW2 had a very good reason for happening, while the current wars did not. We have no reason to sacrifice anything for this war, and it's a shame that soldiers have to sacrifice their lives for it.
That's why we're pissed off about this war.- Rastline, on 03/22/2008, -3/+0Your right that Prince getting shot was more than a good reason for WW2 was it not?
- zeabu, on 03/22/2008, -2/+1It was a prince that was shot in WW I, stupid. And it was more as a symbol. Austria-Hungaria, was making decisions for a region they did not control, killing him was to show they had no power, no safety over there. The direct result was not war, it was the forming of the alliances, and the built up to the war itself, which was inevitable. That's why we agree killing that prince was the start of the Great War.
- DemonWasp, on 03/23/2008, -0/+2Actually, WWI had a variety of "causes". Archduke Franz Ferdinand getting shot was only the "proximal cause". A bunch of "necessary causes" include:
1. Treaties that had built up two very large sides, with mutual-violence clauses so that if any country went to war, they wall would.
2. Massive arms race.
3. Trigger event (assassination of franz)
WW2 was very different. The reason for WW2 occurring was to stop the atrocities committed by the Nazi regime (or at least, that's an excellent reason to have fought). The Nazi party came into power partially because of the stupid policies about Germany's surrender in WW1.
WW1 was dumb and brutal. WW2 was dumb and brutal, but not without cause.
- Rastline, on 03/22/2008, -3/+0Your right that Prince getting shot was more than a good reason for WW2 was it not?

- ShinRaTDR, on 03/22/2008, -1/+2Again, that had little to do with what I said, you clearly have something important to express to someone with that opinion, but please don't try to pin it on me with random assumptions and accusations. What I said was what I meant, that your attitude regarding political debate, over anything else, is what's currently holding the progress, I mean progress in an international standing, regarding the welfare of your OWN citizens, not those you randomly police, of your country back.
- RRJackson, on 03/22/2008, -1/+2Our citizens are doing peachy now that we're finally expanding the union again and establishing a new projection of American power. As fares the empire, so fare her citizens.

- Manrosion, on 03/22/2008, -0/+0Which people? I have never heard a single person utter a good word on American foreign policy since George W. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove took over the White house. I (myself not being from the US) don't think the US people in general are particularly intelligent, nor do I think they are particularly stupid. I don't blame the Republicans, I blame the neocon-republicans who were in power since 2000, and I hold them responsible for a lot of troubles the world faces today. US foreign policy today (22 march 2008) is not slightly better then it was a couple of years ago, it is slightly less bad.

- lasenorita, on 03/22/2008, -3/+15Terrorism has increased sevenfold worldwide because of the war. We are trillions of dollars in debt, and our economy is in recession. 4,000+ of our men and women are dead, thousands more are injured, and countless numbers are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder --- literally a living hell. Our military is stretched too thin and instead of going solely after suicidal religious political maniacs, our country has instead helped motivate and created new ones.
However good our intentions may have been, this is essentially what we've accomplished and are continuing to accomplish "over there". And on another note: true Republicans do not advocate nation-building and real conservatives value balanced budgets and less government spending.- MyExSucks, on 03/22/2008, -4/+1sevenfold, really? seven? did you just pull that out of your ass? I got news for you pal, our country has been trillions of dollars in debt since even Bill Clinton, the almighty savior of our country according to you *****, was in office.
if you think our military is stretched too thin, think again. if it were getting anywhere near "stretched thin," they'd be calling the army reserves, etc over there, but guess what? they're all still here. don't try to tell me they're not because my cousin is in the army reserve and knows zero (0) people from reserve units nationwide who have been called into duty. coincidence? no, sir. they're not needed. why? the troops aren't spread too thin.

Iraq war cost estimates run into the trillions

Iraq war has ground forces stretched thin
http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/news/2008/01/marin ...
There are several things I would like to point out. First, forcing democracy and the American way of life on people through the barrel of a gun is 99% guaranteed not to win hearts and minds. Is it difficult to believe that when an Iraqi sees their mother, father, sister, brother, cousin, or friend mutilated and murdered, they'd have a burning desire to seek revenge?
Second, whatever someone else had done in the past does not give us carte blanche to commit the same immoral actions, nor does it justify those actions. Surely you'll agree that the logical response to being in trillions of dollars in debt is to try to get out of that debt, not to dig ourselves deeper?
Third, top military officers have indeed warned us that our military is "stretched thin". Our soldiers' tours of duty continue to be extended time and time again. Also, National Guard troops who are supposed to be available in times of need like Hurricane Katrina or the California wildfires are instead patrolling the segregated streets of Baghdad. Another little tidbit you might not be aware of: we rely dangerously heavily on private security contractors. In fact, they now outnumber our uniformed armed forces in Iraq.
Last, I am not a big fan of President Clinton, nor am I a big fan of the current administration. I do not approve of the welfare-warfare state. Those are not the principles our country were founded upon. If we continue with this unconstitutional war and continue to ignore our economic reality, the future will suck way more than you believe your ex does.
