- cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -3/+51You are very welcome here :-)
I'll buy you the first beer when you arrive!
Unfortunately the current Dutch government is also very Bush-friendly. But there are national elections in 4 weeks. - giantAppleCore, on 10/12/2007, -4/+48No, don't go to Holland, go to New Zealand, wonderful country, looking for smart people
- cameron074, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40HE has taken the lead? Oh, ok.
In other news, Tony Snow has made it aware that President Bush is the 2nd coming of Jesus, and was also responsible for the U.S. winning the Revolutionary War.
I'm with you, snipehack, America is becoming completely ridiculous to the point where I am seriously considering leaving. - Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35Holland is beautiful and everyone I have met from there has been intelligent and rational. It would be a fine place to live.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33You mean the destruction of the environment?
I think this quote from Ann Coulter pretty accurately sums up the christian right attitude to environment:
"God gave us the earth. We have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees. God said, 'Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It's yours.'"--- Ann Coulter on Hannity & Colmes, 6/20/01
The expression "rape it" may be extreme, but I've heard words to the same effect from many other evangelists - that the environment is SUPPOSED to be destroyed, because that is foretold in the bible, and is a prerequisite for the rapture and armageddon and the second coming of Christ. It is quite probably Bush feels the same way. - Web_Weasel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27China had the worst typhoon season ever and the press didn't report it at all.
- ramaz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Snow's statement is laughable. Maybe crying would be more appropriate.
- yakimushi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Not to mention Mexico was hit with three this year.
- walkerblackwell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22New Zealand. My sister lived there for 6 months working on family farms. It's a good place for sure.
- EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21I seriously hope Watergeus was joking. Looking at one summer's worth of data for a long-term sounds like a Pat Robertson brain fart.
- kuzotz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Me being a christain(I'm black though so its a bit different due to a different cultural viewpoint sinc eblack christains tend to be liberal) I find that raping the earth, and turning it into a wasteland is crazy, and that the US is completely backwards. In terms of technology thats enviromental friendly... When I was in the EU my eyes were opened, and now I really think the US is pretty backwatered..
- grendelboogie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Don't leave. Just help change the people in charge.
Bush and Co. have always been a little reality-challenged. It's just gotten worse as their positions are more and more shown to be ridiculous. - BenSerwa, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16The concept that we HAVE to destroy the entirety of the only place we can survive...
I'm sorry Christians and religion-defenders, but if that's not total insanity, I don't know what is. - shawnfassett, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19I would be almost FINE with Bush's stance, if he were honest about it.
I would ask him how he balances his faith in God and the Bible and the destruction of it at the same time through global warming. - EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I think SnowJob was referring to climate change in Washington...
On GLOBAL Climate Change, Bush has also taken the lead, but against the rest of the world.
Up next: the War on Heat, followed by the War on Water.
Heckuva job. - cameron074, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Realistically, if I thought there was any hope that the U.S. goverment could change, I would. There are too many corrupt politicians and too many ridiculous laws at this point in our history. The people of this country are also heading in the wrong direction. For gods sake, some kid in Alabama RAPED HIS MOM yesterday! Past the point of no return? I think so.
- rabidjester, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13In other news, 2+2=5 and we've always been at war with Eurasia.
I know it's cliche, but Christ they just keep pushing.. - kettlechips, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Remember Christians: those scientists who predict climate change are the same scientists behind evolution. Beware!
- yakimushi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11It's pretty obvious Bush has been contributing to lowering emissions. I mean, the only thing that can explain the things he says is that he's holding his breath...

...........
"Heck, I'm a Republican and its simply gotten old to me. I just wish someone would turn on a brain cell"
...........
Not all Republicans in history are terrible... Reagan and Sr,. weren't so bad... but how the heck can you remotely identify yourself with these clowns?
Hundreds of thousands of people have died because of their actions, the middle class is under attack, separation of church and state is under attack, they're giving tax cuts while they can't even balance a budget, foreign policy is a disaster, Abramov, Delay, face shooting incident, gaybashing, torture, NSA spying, global warming, Rumsfeld, arguably war crimes.... the list goes on and on.
Bro I'm not trying to insult you personally because you seem pretty down to earth but conservatives have become cruel paranoid extremists that see the devil everywhere and fantasy themselves as the ubermensche. What ever happened to moderation? Extreme rightwing conservatives have done so much damage to America that it will take decades and TRILLIONS of your tax dollars to fix. (if we're lucky)
The O'Reilly , Beck, Rush, Coultier "we are the elite" phenomena has reached epic creepy propaganda proportions..
http://youtube.com/watch?v=kaSQ-LNp9Nk - SgtBeavis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Iceland man, go to Iceland. Don't let the name fool you. Its a wonderful place. Everywhere you look there are totally incredible looking women.
Holland, New Zealand are both wonderful places. If you like weed and hookers, check out Holland, who has their fair share of female beauty :-) If you love nature, check out New Zealand. But if you like the most drop dead gorgeous women on this planet move to Iceland.
Ok, seriously, is it any surprise this thread comes down to talk about how nice places are. The crap that is spewing forth from the WH is so craptacular that we are simply bored with it. Heck, I'm a Republican and its simply gotten old to me. I just wish someone would turn on a brain cell, get James Baker in there and start taking his advice to get us out of this mess.
Democrats, you might be getting two years. Don't screw it up. - ricree, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Seriously, even if people don't care about the environment for its own sake, we should do so for more selfish reasons. At the moment, we are pretty much limited to one planet, and if we ruin it for ourselves we are pretty much screwed. Over the long term, there's pretty much no way right now that we can screw up the planet anyways. Sooner or later, everything will balance out and continue along perfectly fine. When this happens, however, that doesn't mean that we will still be around as a species. In fact, the odds are against us. Really, the only thing at stake here is ourselves.
- giantAppleCore, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Not to mention, there was a hurricane that hit the US this year, Hurricane Ernesto... it just wasn't a very big one.
- erkokite, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I vouch for NZ. Although I hear Holland is wonderful, I've personally been to NZ on multiple occasions for extended periods of time, and have family over there. Wonderful, beautiful country. I guarantee that you'll be absolutely shocked at the natural beauty. I would move there in a second if they had some aerospace engineering jobs.
- erkokite, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Bush taking the lead on climate change. Right... I don't know what alternate universe Snow is from, but it's certainly not the one I know. Neocons are so detached from reality that it would actually be humorous if not for the fact that they control our country right now.
- SpoBo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"there" that's putting it nicely :D Over here in Europe though .. politicians resign when they ***** up. They resign over the wierdest things that might just even upset 1% of the population... so I don't realy understand how it is that Bush is still running a country as large as America. That ***** should have resigned the first week for screwing the world by manipulating the elections ... *sigh* This stuff just pisses me off :'( America is already in so much debt it's even getting hilarious.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6How do these guys say all this ***** while keeping a straight face ?
- BevansDesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Every day is opposite day with the Bush Administration. Whenever they say something, it's pretty much assured that the opposite is what's really true.
- there, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6
OK.... my instincts are to go straight for the jugular of all the rightwingers that were arguing against climate change regulations with laissez-faire capitalism arguments However they'll be plenty of time to plonk them endlessly with that later.
This admission brings to the table a far more serious problem
I can't believe GWB thinks this will remotely help Republicans win any votes since it basically makes them all look like idiots at the worse possible moment. Therefore this leads me to the conclusion he has learned something new that overrides political concerns.... that scared the crap out of him.
Now I'm wondering what that is? - DeadLikeMe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm amazed by these people (the GOP). First there say there were WMD and there were not, they say Iraq and AQ were buddies and they were not, then they said... well you get the idea. Why do they think anyone believes them any more?
Bush's legacy will be as the guy that could have tried to do something but for reasons of political expediency did nothing instead.
The GOP needs to get the boot so we can start working on real problems rather then the make believe problems of gay marriage, flag burring and other distractions. - kettlechips, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6* offer not valid for New York Times reporters.
- omaryak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@bogdon: If you can show me where or how Bush had anything to do with achieving that purely statistical feat other than on paper or in the minds of political strategists who never cease finding new ways to torture the meaning of language, you might start to make the argument that Snow was telling the "truth" – but even then only on a technicality.
- senorBojangles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Oh he's taken the lead alright! But we need to go in the OTHER direction.
- glguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5LOL, Bush has taken the lead in causing climate change! We're number 1!
- morel42, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6 Well, it's true.
Bush has taken the lead in Climate Change..
Changing it for the worse that is :) God, Whats next, Republicans claiming that there the Party of the Poor?
*****. - bradym80, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7They just want an official stance out there on the newswire to cloud the issue and not make bush look like a total jackass.
only partial jackass. - scottc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@Azur2
While evangelicals have historically been fairly anti-environment that is starting to change. Bill Moyers did an excellent program on this a couple of weeks ago. The Christian right is starting to rebel against the Republican stance on the environment. - bayliss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5on the very off-topic debate of Holland V New Zealand;
New Zealand is next to Australia, and Australia used to be called 'new holland'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Holland_(Australia) - tobyjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A stereotype? About what group, presidents? Snow needs to learn to speak gooder.
- polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What options do you have when no one listens to reason?
If you saw the speech Bush gave yesterday, it seems like he is anti-reality. He just makes things up and says it like a preacher and everyone in the room lights up. Since half of the nation doesn't want to listen to reason and believe in magic, Bush and Co. will just keep playing on their ignorance. He says he believes in the all mighty and BAM half the vote right there. It's saddening because: What other options do you have when no one will debate anymore? They have their ways and that's it. This is Fascism at its worst. - dgendreau, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If you think fleeing the USA will save you from its ill conceived policies, you are mistaken. US laws and legal precident, not to mention US corporations, have a way of screwing up things in the rest of the world too. If you think it will be easier to get these bastards under control when you are no longer a US citizen, you are crazy.
I choose to stay and fight. - amoirae, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8And we're tired of neocon whores like you who will shill lies for the administration.
- PJOnori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In other matters, Snow explained how the color black was actually the color white and that up was actually down.
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Don't leave America just yet. Wait for the midterm elections. If the Republicans win, then move. If they lose, wait til the 2008 elections. If the Republicans win, then leave. If not, there is hope yet.
Because, if you do leave, guess what will happen? All the decent Americans will be gone and America will turn into a Nazi dictatorship, with Domonionists running the show... and this is _BAD_ for the rest of the world. Trust me, you don't want a nuclear superpower with Dominionist freaks at the helm free to do what they wish in the name of their sick, twisted, satanic beliefs. _THAT_ is the scariest thought in the world.
Just imagine this freak as your President.
http://www.billybobneck.com/
"Even though it wasn’t a terrorist attack, the plane that flew into an apartment building in Manhattan oughta serve as a wake up call that we need to get serious about the War on Terror and declare martial law until evil is conquered!"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominionism
Anyways, what else do you expect from Tony Snow? He's the Whitehouse Information Minister - the Comical Toni of the administration. His job description is actually, "Get paid lots of money to spew out lie after lie." No one should take anything he says seriously, because the understanding is that anything and everything he says is meant to be a lie. - willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maybe he's a crazy genious.
People will not conserve if fuel is cheap (look at SUV sales in the cheap gas Clinton days).
So...... stir up the hornets nest in the Middle East.
This drives up oil prices.
Suddenly, everybody wants to conserve electricity and get a more fuel efficient car. All because gas is more expensive.
See, he wasn't trying to help his friends get rich from oil, or find WMD, I mean bring democracy to Iraq, those were just side effects of trying to save the environment. - alexhengen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6fighting climate change is about as futile as me creating a logical metaphor here. Nothing stopped the ice age, and nothing's going to stop climate change.
- willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"At the moment, we are pretty much limited to one planet"
and that why I'm building a space plane in the garage. - theapbt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I saw that episode with Moyer about the head Evangelical Christian being pro-environment. However, he has a huge hill to climb. Regardless if he is the head honcho or not, most of his evangelical buddies are irrational and would rather follow the corporate neo conservative propaganda. Afterall, bring on the topic of abortion, and evangelicals would totally ignore every other relavant issue on the book. It is so easy to manipulate far right voters.
