Sheehan Wants Impeachment, Pelosi's Job
nytimes.com — Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Monday moved another step -- actually several thousand of them -- toward carrying out her promise to run against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi because the California Democrat won't consider impeachment proceedings against President Bush.

- Shandooga, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4What makes you think he isn't the one calling the shots right now? Bush has made it quite clear that he's only in it for the Airforce One dinners and diplomatic buffets.
- CZzyzx41, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4What concerns me is that people think that impeachment means his removal from office. Have we all forgotten Bill Clinton?
- raitchison, on 10/10/2007, -8/+12I hate Dubya as much as the next guy but to Impeach him based on our dislike of him would be a bigger attack on the constitution than anything that he has done.
- dforty3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Forget not liking him as the reason. How about the illegal domestic spying, the nullifying of Habeas Corpus, and the other illegal executive orders he signed such as the one giving him dictatorial powers upon the next catastrophic event (even if it doesn't even happen in the US) and all the lies he's told and continues to tell? How about the secret signing of an executive order giving him the power to declare martial law without a governor's consent. This is not tit for tat. This is protecting the Constitution and the American way of life.

These things have happened before and we are doomed to repeat history if people don't turn off the corporate media who have enabled and ignored this.

Now that she has traded her dignity for her "thirty pieces of silver," Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan is quickly gaining admiration from the American people.
- urluckyday, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14I don't know who you polled, but to most people, she's more of an annoyance than anything. Sure, she's passionate, but the fact that she is just so outspoken and gets arrested every month is more annoying that admirable.

- eternal464, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4the whole problem with the government is that whatever way a group of people is leaning at the time, they elect a relative extremist to said position. Gee....what are a bunch of extremist that disagree going to accomplish? If you guessed nothing then you win not getting slapped in the head! Anyone who would elect an extremist may very well want to make a point(indeed, a valid one) but you must put rational people in power.

- Shigatsu, on 10/10/2007, -27/+17The democrats say "We are concentrating on ending the war, we don't have time to impeach"
1) In 8 months, how close are our troops to coming home? No closer at all. Good job so far.
2) How much actual time has been alotted? Well considering Conyers said himself they never even read the bills they vote on. And that there's been perhaps 3-5 bills total passed, with a vote on them taking what, a few hours? We could probably average it down to 8 hours in 8 months! Fantastic Work!!!
3) Congress has the power of the purse, if they wanted to, they could have defunded the war months ago, and had our troops home. Then compensate them for any back pay. Everyone wins. I mean, aside from new gear and weapons, what else are troops in a foriegn country spending their money on? Probably not too much.
4) I doubt the troops would mind missing a month or two's pay, if they knew that a) When its all over they would be paid out whats owed. They could probably live with not being paid, from my view living without pay sure beats dying with pay.
5) We have video proof the administration lied about the war, had previous knowledge of 911, and that Bush is trying to create a military state with his stupid ass ***** laws.
Their not busy ending the war, their not busy impeaching bush, their not busy "Holding this administration accountable" -- WHAT THE ***** ARE YOU DOING THEN? I'll tel you... letting bush pass all his bills so they can get his little "Tool box of power"
and a few points about bush!
1) It seems awful funny how when its his ass or one of his bushies in trouble, they are the FIRST to use the constitution to get out.
2) When it comes to OUR rights from the constitution "It's just a goddamned piece of paper"
3) Bush has no problem denying us the right to protest. But ill bet he wouldn't deny the Health Crap Companies the right to lobby!
Time to start spreading the word about "Article 5 Conventions" and some more Ron Paul 08 spam.
A few points about Paul.
1) The media hates him (look at constant smear jobs.)
2) His fellow republicans hate him. (look at how they twist his words.)
3) He is the next generation equal to Robin Hood.
4) He's the only one in the whole group of dems and reps that talks about ending the IRS/Federeal Reserve (The reason income tax is illegal is because it was passed without the consent of 3/4 the states. They tried to call it voluntary so ppl wouldn't freak out. Even Former President Woodroffe the man who signed the bill admitted later he ***** america in doing so, do your own research, don't believe the lies of the IRS, and well we already see how much we can count on Congress to work for the People.)
5) If the media hates him, the fellow republicans hate him... ***** thats enough right there. If they hate him. He must be doing something Right.
All you Ron Paul haters. Aside from the lies Fox News tells you, (spammers, liars, conspiracy theorists... etc) What is there not to like, are you Supporting dropping Nukes on another country, potentially starting Armageddon ? - mwolfzorn, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Senator Gravel supports the FairTax proposal that calls for eliminating the Internal Revenue Service and the income tax and replacing it with a progressive national sales tax [...]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_positions_of_Mike_Gravel#Taxation
There is only one entity in the U.S. that pays taxes: the individual. Businesses and corporations do not, they merely collect taxes from consumers of their products and pass on the taxes to the government. The Fair Tax proposal calls for eliminating the IRS and the Income Tax and replacing it with a progressive national Sales Tax on new products and services. To compensate for necessities, such as food, lodging, clothing, etc there would be a “prebate” to reimburse taxpayers for the taxes paid on necessities.
http://www.gravel2008.us/issues#fair_tax
And I think Gravel has a better shot of getting elected than Ron Paul- Infowarmachine, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2gravel also calls for 1 world government, and taxes on all carbon usage
all of the fairtaxers are frauds, they want to put REAL income taxes on the books, as our current income tax is completely unbacked by any law
they want to put real tax laws on the books, 'light ones' get us to pay the extra money toward 1 world government, then later raise up the income taxes again but backed up by law this time
its *****, its a scam, a trick, a trap, a con and youll be paying way more taxes
Gravel is a new world order shill, and a piece of crap, but dont take it from me, LISTEN TO GRAVEL:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9qCZvIuTWY#GU5U2spHI_4
theres a reason people are 'on ron pauls dick' its because people love his message, hes a real american patriot, and he has real solutions to very real problems
if your going to just ignore that and support a NWO shill who has way less chance of getting elected, and even if he were, would continue to ***** america over then.. i dont know what to say to you, research, read, investigate.. ron paul is the man- phmfthacim, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1ron paul and mike gravel are both stupid:
ron paul is a libertarian and has this magical belief in some "free market" and mike gravel supports school vouchers!- raitchison, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Of course because regulated everything and making sure only the rich can send their kids to good schools is working out so well.

- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1So when a company pays the payroll tax (see your taxes on your paycheck? Double that amount and that is what the government gets paid for your labor. Half from you, Half from your employer.) I guess that doesn't count as a company paying taxes in your world.

- dagr8tim, on 10/10/2007, -5/+33What I love is that she is running to impeach bush (as one of her stated goals). But by the time she would be elected & sworn in, he will no longer be in office. Way to think that one through Cindy.
- jebudas, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3I think her point is that Pelosi isnt doing the job she was elected to do. Also, the more support she gains, the more pressure Pelosi feels.
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No, and no.
- Gerz1219, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5I'm glad this occurred to someone else as well. Also, even if Cindy Sheehan won Pelosi's seat, it's not like she would automatically be elected Speaker of the House. She'd just be another ineffectual member of Congress who'd be whipped into line by Pelosi's establishment replacement.
- xBDVx, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Yeah, plus she'd have to move to and get California permanent residence before replacing Pelosi. I really doubt people in CA would vote for her. Even if she gets voted into some backwater congressional district, I *really* doubt she would be made Speaker of the House.
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1She lives in Sacramento, over an hour from San Francisco... And somehow California lets people run for office in districts they don't live in.
- jebudas, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3I think her point is that Pelosi isnt doing the job she was elected to do. Also, the more support she gains, the more pressure Pelosi feels.
- nsummy, on 10/10/2007, -11/+33Cindy Sheehan went from a respectable mother fighting for a cause to a complete lunatic. I'm just as against this war as everyone else but you are not going to get elected to replace Pelosi solely because you want to end the war and impeach Bush. Especially when she is up for reelection when Bush's term is ending.
- mightyzug, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2fight lunacy with lunacy!
- jebudas, on 10/10/2007, -8/+5I cant believe people dare to rip on Cindy Sheehan. She lost her son (her son!) because the government lied and sent him to fight in an unjust war. What would do you think is a more admirable course of action? Lay down and let the government do as they please? She is a warrior and a patriot and deserves respect.
"A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against its government."
+ Edward Abbey, naturalist and author (1927-1989)- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I dare rip on her however I please. She's a one-trick pony who can't seem to get over trying to perpetually recover her fifteen days of fame. I would like nothing better than Bush's impeachment for breaking constitutional and federal law, but Sheehan is one of the the worst people I would want seen as championing the case.
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Nah, she went from a distraught mother to complete lunatic... And that was before she gained national attention.

- Jaymoon, on 10/10/2007, -11/+13And I want Sheehan to shut up... Guess neither one of us is going to get our wish.
- readme, on 10/10/2007, -12/+18Sheehan proves that the root of her anger is not the death of her son but her hatred for Bush. She needs therapy, not an impeachment.
One more thing. When you enlist in the military, you're agreeing to put your life on the line for your country. Wartime or peacetime. Just war or unjust war. Her son knew this signing up. It's time she realizes it.- jebudas, on 10/10/2007, -7/+5He agreed to protect his country, not the agenda of a few greedy neocons.

- multitude, on 10/10/2007, -11/+10I would like to see someone like Sheehan elected. She sure as hell beats the apathetic people we put in office now. Activists like her at least show that they're passionate about something.
- dmcbride6, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Alot of people see her as being passionate about the wrong reasons though.
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3Passion is a dangerous thing without sense and restraint.

(FYI, I think Bush is doing a ***** job, and can't wait till 2008)- CZzyzx41, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Impeaching Bush (especially this late in his 2nd term) wouldn't necessarily remove him from office. What scares me is the thought that (and look at the pattern of his executive power trip to see where this could be realistic) come October of 2008, Bush will declare that National Security will be compromised if we switch Presidents in the middle of a war. He'll find some way to eliminate term limits on the Presidency and declare himself leader of the land until the war is officially declared over (which will never happen).
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think you've wrapped that foil too tight.

"We don't like you" is not a crime.

- kflasch, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Well, at least David Duke supports her and all her ranting about Israel!
Does having a son die give you moral authority? It is a tragedy, no doubt, but it doesn't give more credence to her arguments merely because of it.
I would prefer she is not associated with the Left. - TIMMYGOAT, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3get real. You people on the left sound just as stupid as the right-wing black-helicopter, Clinton is going to declare marshal law idiots did in 2000.
And if was up to Cindy the Taliban would still be in power as she didn't support that either. "Well then we should have gone after al-Qaida and maybe not after the country of Afghanistan." What an idiot! As if we could have gone after al-Qaida in Afghanistan without...ummm...invading Afghanistan. And what wrong with taking out the most oppressive regime in the world. We should have taken the Taliban out in 1998 after they destroyed the the Buddhist statues. It was an offense to the whole world and if we had taken a principled stand then....9-11 might never have happened. It's called appeasement.
How are you guys going to get out of bed in the morning after Bush leaves office?- kflasch, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1You must understand not all on the Left are as you think. I don't care for Sheehan myself. I think the war in Afghanistan was the right thing.
It's nonsense to go to war with someone over destroying statues (and I say this as someone with much love for Buddhism), but I don't doubt there were things we could have done.

- DAVIBE, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3republican & democrat.
2 sides of the same coin. - rumorsofdemise, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4She might be a lunatic, but damn, atleast she's doing something.
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2A homeless man rummages through your garbage, licking clean a soup can...

- jprez, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Here is the deal, if we impeach bush... and bush gets kicked out of office, then Cheney will be in power and it will be the end of the world as we know it.
- cbegin, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0Sheehan wuz a man...Oh no, sorry, that was Sheena.
- socialidiocy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1no, Sheena is a punk rocker
- Nighttime, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I think most republicans want the impeachment process to move forward. Talk about a way to energize their base, let all the independents see Cindy force this forward. Lets see who is really in charge of the Democrat party.
- mjw2025, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Where do you get your "most people" data. Fantasies and reality are two different things.
- drizzlelicious, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Democrats supporting Sheehan is like Republicans supporting Westeboro Baptist Church.
- jpmulli, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1This woman is what scares me about the Democratic Party.
- kflasch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Umm.. I think she would run as an independent since she's running *against* a Democrat.
- wookme, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I am ashamed to be an American citizen. This country is really messed up.
- robisfunky, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0 @wookme
You don't like being an American? GET THE ***** OUT. There are PLENTY of other countries out there, jackass. - TIMMYGOAT, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0yes...there are plenty of planes that head out of the country everyday. Why not hop aboard with a one way ticket. You can make room for the millions who risk life and limb to get here.
- robisfunky, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0 @wookme
- shawgo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1lol, this is great.
- vurdillac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Sheehan and Ann Coulter should get together for a media whore-off and we should lock the doors and burn the building down after they arrive.
- tpimpeach, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Just as Nixon’s impeachment began with the Watergate hearings and Clinton’s with the Starr investigation, impeachment of Bush and Cheney needs an investigation to convince a majority of House members to want to impeach. Former House Judiciary Committee member Liz Holtzman helped get Nixon out of office and co-authored the Special Prosecutor law.
This may be another road to impeachment. (in addition to H.Res.333)
NEW YORK, Aug. 28 / PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Former Congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman served on the House Judiciary Committee during Nixon’s impeachment. She co-authored the 1973 special prosecutor statute, and co-wrote (with Cynthia L. Cooper) the 2006 book The Impeachment of George W. Bush (http://www.impeachbushbook.com).
Take Action: Call the members of the Judiciary Committee and ask them to investigate possible crimes and abuses of power during Attorney General Gonzales‘ tenure as part of the AG confirmation.
