- inactive, on 05/20/2008, -6/+78Even a former KKK member from West Virginia is getting behind Obama. Is it getting cold down there Satan???
- inactive, on 05/20/2008, -14/+3591 years old, KKK membership, actively campaigning against civil rights.... if I were his family I'd be talking to the doctor about an Alzheimer's test for Byrd.
- toenail, on 05/20/2008, -8/+27im sure this comment is gonna get buried pretty bad but i dont know why someones religious beliefs really matters... to me religious beliefs are just personal opinions, everyone that has endorsed obama has made that comment about him being a good christian... how about being a good person.. sorry just thinking out loud
- elamr, on 05/20/2008, -3/+19Prescott Bush (Bushes Grand Father) was a Nazi supporter. Should we judge 43 based on that? He was voted in twice. Obama's Kenyan father took off when he was two. How is he a factor AT ALL. Obama is NOT a muslim. Listen to something other than FoxNews.
- dohidied, on 05/20/2008, -17/+32This actually brought tears to my eyes. If a former KKK member can support Barack Obama, maybe there's hope for this country after all.
- insomniac8400, on 05/20/2008, -3/+16Please point out one time Obama actively played the race card?
- allengeer, on 05/20/2008, -1/+13why would McCain get Byrd's vote? He's a democratic senior senator. The democratic candidate would get his vote.

- Diderotten, on 05/20/2008, -5/+13It could just be he has an ulterior motive to improve his image.
- maj0rm0j0, on 05/20/2008, -1/+9He was very young and has repeatedly admitted that he was young and dumb and it was a mistake. Looks like he was telling the truth doesn't it.
- PCloadLetterWTF, on 05/20/2008, -2/+10"and stop listening to Fox News "
... fox is the one pumping these "facts" into our heads in the first place. And where do you get your "facts" that his father was a supporting Muslim-American terrorist or whatever. And the jury is actually in... hes not a damn Muslim... Maybe you should take your own advice and stop listening to fox noise. - inactive, on 05/20/2008, -1/+9Um, he's still seen a racist. Have you read these comments?
- allengeer, on 05/20/2008, -2/+9the man can barely speak complete sentences. He shakes uncontrollably and is a very very old man. I hardly think improving his image is really on his list of to do's.
- 0xception, on 05/20/2008, -0/+7that's a very weak example you have there p0s3r... I'm not even sure i would call that the "race card", or simply a statement of fact (possibly a small amount of hyperbole depending on location of the hypothetical event) but not really the race card...
Now Bill Clintons remarks about Jesse Jackson wining SC would be playing the race card, trying to dismiss the victory of Obama by suggesting that "sure he won, he's black like Jesse, and there for SC with it's large black population voted for him"... while again this maybe true it's purpose is to belittle the victory as some sort of affirmative action or "black people sticking together" type of win.
So unless you have any other solid examples? - cgomez, on 05/20/2008, -5/+11A nice departure from the standard West Virginian -- "I don't like the Hussein thing. I've had enough of Hussein!"
- inactive, on 05/20/2008, -0/+6Does anyone else feel like they're being smothered to death by how quickly your room to respond to people runs out now? It's like they don't want you to communicate on a thread past a single statement.
- maj0rm0j0, on 05/20/2008, -2/+8You guys are morons. I'm guessing your about 19 year old Republicans. Your talking about the man that keeps a copy of the constitution in his pocket.
Here is a link with his civil liberty voting records. Educate your ignorant self. http://www.votesmart.org/voting_category.php?can_i ... - hmunkey, on 05/20/2008, -1/+7Exactly what I was thinking. "Wasn't this the KKK guy?"
- saucygitaristak, on 05/20/2008, -0/+6He's also got the superior healthcare plan, the superior voting record, superior leadership savvy, superior ethics, a superior stance on Iraq and diplomacy, and a superior stab at unifying the country. Oh except for the race card. He actually doesn't have that.
And how does a white man that is a racist against blacks help your point that Obama;s supporters are where the racsts are? They are totally opposite. The idea of this article is how he can reach over cultural divides. - schavira, on 05/20/2008, -6/+12"I've seen a lot of white ***** in my time"
Silly Robert Byrd - Shrubber, on 05/20/2008, -3/+9Do your farts get to vote in the U.S. Senate? Because I know I didn't vote for your farts.
- saucygitaristak, on 05/20/2008, -0/+6Obama never calimed Clinton's remark was racist. Apparently some other blacks had a problem with it but I see absolutely nothing in that article that shows Obama playing any sort of race card.
- inactive, on 05/20/2008, -1/+7So it wasn't *Obama* playing the card? The only thing you can think of is something that his wife said.
Oh, Obama was sitting next to 'him' [sic] (hint: Michelle Obama is female). So that means, according to you, by his mere proximity, whatever his wife says is automatically his opinion and originates with him.
Thanks for revealing that you really don't think women can have an individual opinion outside of their men. Not only are you apparently a Right Wing Shill™ and seemingly ok with racism, but you're a chauvinist as well.
You really do have an awful lot of personality problems, don't you? Your life must suck. - nosecohn, on 05/20/2008, -5/+11No, that's false. In 1942, he was elected leader of his local chapter, which lasted about a year. He later denounced the Klan and has repeatedly apologized for his involvement with them over many years.
- inactive, on 05/20/2008, -1/+6This story is notable because:
a) It's Byrd; that this piece of work could endorse Obama is of itself newsworthy,
b) Obama is continuing to gain endorsements from notable political figures.
HTH - maj0rm0j0, on 05/20/2008, -1/+6You have no idea what your talking about. You don't understand how important an endorsement from Senator Robert Byrd is when it comes to Super Delegates.
- inactive, on 05/20/2008, -3/+8You sure it's not from the onions you're slicing?
- maj0rm0j0, on 05/20/2008, -4/+9None of you know Robert Byrd. The gentleman is far from racist and Obama admires Senator Byrd very much. Those of you that have read Obama's last book know this.
What this does is fully aligns the entire Democratic party behind Obama. Expect Hillary to fully stop attacking Obama and drop out of the race very soon.
This is the endorsement we've all been waiting for whether you know it or not. - saucygitaristak, on 05/20/2008, -0/+5Obama never played a race card there either. Obviously his wife is afraid that his safety is threatened by his race, but he never claimed that. I disagree with her statement, but its so insignificant I don't see why you're arguing it. Plus you're taking it way past what it was intended to mean, which is that blacks are at a higher risk of being that targets of violence. I don't necessarily agree with that in this day and age, but Michelle Obama grew up when blacks and whites didn't live in such harmony.
- saucygitaristak, on 05/20/2008, -0/+5“A cross-section of voters are alarmed at the tenor of some of these statements,” said Obama spokeswoman Candice Tolliver, who said that Clinton would have to decide whether she owed anyone an apology."
WHERE THE ***** IS THE RACE CARD IN THAT STATEMENT?!! - luet, on 05/20/2008, -0/+5I see your backing all of your points up with verified sources.
- saucygitaristak, on 05/20/2008, -0/+5Give it until the general election. I honestly don't see that happening. They are almost the same candidate in every way except character. Clinton herself has recently said "that would be a terrible mistake". I'd like to see a more recent poll.
And on the offensive, it doesn't seem like John McCain is exactly getting true conservative votes. Like Ron Paul and Ann Coulter. - allengeer, on 05/20/2008, -0/+5you are aware that his father is dead right?
you are aware his father went to school at Harvard right?
you are aware that his father returned to kenya to work there and help his own people and was no way involved in terrorism?
you are aware that Obama is not a muslim right?
you are aware that Obama's father was not a muslim either right (he was Atheist -from Audacity of Hope).
seriously how do you know how to come to digg? you clearly are not very intelligent. - 0xception, on 05/20/2008, -2/+7I think he could have safely gotten away with it given his state went with Clinton overwhelmingly ... and if he just simply said he was going with the will of his constituency he would have been fine.
- otis12, on 05/20/2008, -8/+12Obama is loved by all kinds
- saucygitaristak, on 05/20/2008, -0/+4He cant unify anything until he wins, man. Clinton supporters generally like him too, they just favor Clinton more. McCain isnt doing a much better job, in case you were about to throw that out.

- Jordan117, on 05/20/2008, -0/+4This will definitely help Obama lock up the vital "old coot" demographic.
- WikiEasy, on 05/20/2008, -7/+11***** THIS NONSTOP OBAMASPAM

- luet, on 05/20/2008, -1/+4It's because a lot of people have a problem with identifying with somebody unless they are similar to them in simpler terms than morals. Being a "good person" unfortunately was never a factor in popularity, in the entire history of humanity. Obama needs to be indentifiable with the christian sects of america, which he is having trouble securing because they believe he is a muslim, something some christians find a bad thing. I personally don't give two ***** about the race, gender, religion, sexuality of our president. Only what they say and what they do.
- yodacallmesome, on 05/20/2008, -3/+6I've spoken with Senator Byrd on many occasions on the subject of the war, and he is quite clear minded. Perhaps your idea of the best candidate is McSame? (Now there's someone who needs an Alzheimer's test! He can't even keep his lies straight.)
- GiggleStick, on 05/20/2008, -0/+3But I always wondered, did he attend/participate in any lynchings? I understand though, because I used to really hate midgets when I was young, but now I think they're just great!
- inactive, on 05/20/2008, -0/+3Do you have a picture of those little Mexican pilots that flew the Falcon for Landau?
- GiggleStick, on 05/20/2008, -0/+3Dave Chappelle had the funniest bit about this.
http://www.imeem.com/yungleazy/music/Uahaql1X/dave ... - saucygitaristak, on 05/20/2008, -0/+3Well apparently Prescott Bush did too, d-bag.
