- flahavin, on 12/17/2007, -1/+71Some of these senators are just douche bags. How the ***** can you even try to argue the "reputation of the carriers."
NO ELECTED OFFICIAL SHOULD EVEN THINK OF PROTECTING THE REPUTATION OF AT&T(or whoever) OVER THE RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE.
I'm calling Shenanigans. - Hickeroar, on 12/17/2007, -1/+40It's CSPAN2, by the way, not straight CSPAN.
- gadlaw, on 12/17/2007, -1/+29'Protect America Act' - Orwellian speak as usual. All hail the fatherland.
- luke374, on 12/17/2007, -0/+27Hang in there, Dodd!
- theshizzler, on 12/17/2007, -0/+25Man, Senator Kit Bond (who is responding to him currently) sure is a prick.
- IntoTheWired, on 12/17/2007, -0/+19Did John Cornyn just say that filling out proper paperwork hampers the intelligence community?
- vanza001, on 12/17/2007, -0/+19***** John Cornyn. Giving them immunity will only mean that from now on the government can offer anyone immunity when it comes for the government asking them to do things the government is not suppose to be able to do.
- Hearron, on 12/17/2007, -1/+19βAny society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.β - Benjamin Franklin
- slothlovechunk, on 12/17/2007, -0/+16At least it's not the ocho.
- Bridea, on 12/17/2007, -0/+14And so it begins...
- IntoTheWired, on 12/17/2007, -0/+14Dodd's right, if QWest knew better, you bet your ass that Verizon AT&T knew better. No retroactive immunity. Time to take your medicine.
- janeuner, on 12/17/2007, -1/+14Sounds like a good reason not to know.
- gadlaw, on 12/17/2007, -0/+13Yes he did. He also said that three kidnapped Americans in Iraq died because of the delay in getting wiretaps or some such *****. Basically 'vote your rights away or Americans will Die!' A complete lying douchebag.
- omgTHEPATRIOTS, on 12/17/2007, -0/+12Go Dodd go!
I really hope the Republicans let this go so they can go home for Christmas. Better yet, I can't wait until they start calling him unchristian for cutting into the holidays LOL - bowens44, on 12/17/2007, -0/+12I am amazed that so many so called conservatives have such disdain for our Constitution and the rule of law. Listening to them, it's obvious that they are cowards willing to give up freedom if only big government will protect them.
Some thigs we will never hear from a Republican/conservtaive:
'Give me Liberty or give me death'
'Live free or die'
'Any people that would give up liberty for a little temporary safety deserves neither liberty nor safety.' - WuShuGuShuPORK, on 12/17/2007, -0/+12what are you talking about?
get a life. - delrin500, on 12/17/2007, -0/+12Listening to John Cornyn is amazing... this guy is totally diluted and just shows that they will say absolutely anything no matter now ridiculous. I can't believe this crap, all the Telco's had to do was have a warrant sent to perform the wiretap and they couldn't do that. I was impressed by Kennedy's assessment that the claim the the Telco's would go bankrupt if they were not given immunity, that statements says that the Telco crimes are so vast and huge that it would shut these guys down!?!?! We need accountability and measured decisions to make us safer not decisions based on lawlessness and paranoia.
- jollyfats, on 12/17/2007, -0/+12ok, my favorite analogy so far, from Cornyn:
If a police officer knocked on my window and asked to borrow my car to chase down a dangerous criminal, would I be more or less likely to give him my car if I knew I could be sued for actions caused by that police officer. He argued that without immunity, law enforcement would never receive any civilian assistance.
This analogy is flawed. Let's say I knew the police officer was going to use my car in an illegal manner. Maybe he told me he was going to run the guy down an kill him. If I then willfully decided to lend him my car, and he did indeed kill the person, and the person's family decided to sue, they would be well within their rights to sue me for allowing someone to break the law with my property. - Bridea, on 12/17/2007, -1/+12'my bad. I ought to know the damn difference - I work on capitol hill.
- Hickeroar, on 12/17/2007, -0/+11Yaknow, I'm not a big fan of Ed Kennedy at all, but his speech is awesome.
- fakkedap, on 12/17/2007, -0/+10I was just going to say the same thing. What a ***** tool.
His head is waaaay too far up his own ass. - barfooz, on 12/17/2007, -0/+10He was trying to read notes off of his Blackberry the whole time... dagnabbit how does this thing work... uh, uh, uh... telecom... uhhh umm protect uhh
- Hickeroar, on 12/17/2007, -0/+10Traitors? Have you read the constitution lately? Looks to me like these so-called "traitors" are standing up for the rights that it guarantees your sorry self. I'm neither republican or democrat, but the D's are certainly on the *RIGHT* side of the law here politically, morally, and ethnically. They're supporting traditional conservatism right here, right now.
- MrMacMan, on 12/17/2007, -0/+10Do your part:
Call your senators and tell them that any bill with immunity is wrong!
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/ ... - inactive, on 12/17/2007, -0/+9What we need to work on is a law that dosn't allow bills piggy backing multiple laws within itself
- GoodDamon, on 12/17/2007, -0/+9He did. Oh my aching melon, he actually said that. Paperwork -- you know, all that messy due process of law -- obviously hates America.
- Bridea, on 12/17/2007, -0/+9And to think, in the old days politicians actually had some knowledge on what they were spewing.
- celebi23, on 12/17/2007, -0/+8MORDAC, you sir are a douchbag
- Bridea, on 12/17/2007, -0/+8These are just opening remarks. Dodd's filibuster won't start until the bill comes up for a vote later this afternoon.
- IntoTheWired, on 12/17/2007, -1/+9Jesus Christ, when did Morbo become a republican ideologue?
- minimitable, on 12/17/2007, -0/+8Orrin Hatch: "We're not all getting what we wanted...we're getting what the public needs for it's protection" Spoken like a true fascist.
- letdowntourist, on 12/17/2007, -0/+8Apparently, people who believe in the Constitution are a "fringe political group."
- inactive, on 12/17/2007, -0/+79/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 AGAIN, god these people are ***** annoying... get Dodd back up there hes the only one making any sense
- krupter, on 12/17/2007, -0/+7Go senator Ron Wyden
- cmdrNacho, on 12/17/2007, -1/+8What amazes me is that this isn't even front page news... on cnn. they have a article about some guy imprisoning their housekeeper...
- pintomp3, on 12/17/2007, -1/+8if they haven't done anything wrong, why do they need immunity?
- sotopheavy, on 12/17/2007, -0/+6Qwest stood up to them and made the right decision. The other companies just handed over our rights on a silver platter. If Qwest was in my area, I'd use them at the drop of a hat. At least I can write them a letter thanking them.
- inactive, on 12/17/2007, -0/+6This woman is totally missing the point of this debate....
- missingnoh4x, on 12/17/2007, -0/+6I can't wait.
- msjo, on 12/17/2007, -0/+6why is orrin hatch speaking?
- Optic7, on 12/17/2007, -0/+6Dodd is on right now. Telling the story of the AT&T technician who saw the equipment that was syphoning all internet traffic to the NSA.
- inactive, on 12/17/2007, -0/+6Who is Orrin Hatch speaking for exactly? The citizens of Utah should be ashamed of this man
- defektiv, on 12/17/2007, -0/+6ugh.. orrin hatch makes me want to hang myself. i'm choking on my own vomit. wonder how much he gets paid..
- sotopheavy, on 12/17/2007, -0/+5Man, Bush really believed himself when he said "Terrorsits hate our freedoms and that we live in a free society" He is trying to make us safer by taking them all away. Get this cook out of office now.
- inactive, on 12/17/2007, -0/+5Basically they're voting on a bill that 99% of congress cant see the documents pertaining to it and hes pissed about it
- foofightrs777, on 12/17/2007, -0/+5Oh god..Orrin Hatch the corporate hack is up now....
- IntoTheWired, on 12/17/2007, -0/+5Orrin Hatch has a lot of nerve talking about irrational fears, we're talking about spying on our own people in the name of saving ourselves from "the terrorists" for chrissake. There is no greater boogeyman in all of American politics than "the terrorists."
- vidar808, on 12/17/2007, -0/+5Orrin Hatch is an idiot!!!
- Optic7, on 12/17/2007, -0/+5Oh No, now Orrin Hatch is back on accusing the people against retroactive immunity of fearmongering and irrational fear of government!
- Satanael, on 12/17/2007, -0/+5Orrin Hatch: "We should never, ever, need a warrant to listen to a foreign terrorist... in another country"
Isn't this habit of our country writing laws for other countries what's getting us in constant trouble? What is the other country's standpoint on us listening in on their conversations? How do we know that the people being contacted over seas are in fact terrorists? This is a heap of *****. -
