- theNazz, on 11/30/2007, -0/+48"Leahy did not set a deadline for the subjects of the subpoenas to comply. He could bring the contempt citations before the committee, but there were no plans to do that, according to officials close to the panel."
Same *****, different day. - greenback1, on 11/30/2007, -0/+24The symbolic gesture is meaningless. Leahy needs to know so many have just given up on this entire gang in DC. We plan on big changes, not side to side changes, but from top to bottom changes and settling somewhere gigantic like the middle, as in middle class. Because it is the Middle Class who are just about fed up enough to consider sending a bunch of politicians to jail for Treason. Leahy and others beware because in their inaction in keeping check on law and order they commit misprision of treason which is punishable with hard jailtime.
- DeadElephantORG, on 11/30/2007, -4/+27'bout TIME !
- expertninja, on 11/30/2007, -1/+19So now they start the intense finger wagging. Next, a stern talking down to, followed by a time out. Seriously, step up the game. I want to see every person in that administration held accountable for every crime they committed while in office, or not in office, considering they are a corrupt bunch of shriveled old bastards.
- PSWTyrant, on 11/30/2007, -1/+13Impeach, not censure.
- theskyman, on 11/30/2007, -0/+8Another meaningless symbolic gesture by our pathetic and corrupt Republican and Democratic Congress!
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -1/+7I don't like to curse too much, but it's about ***** time!
- starfoxtim, on 11/30/2007, -1/+7As much as I respect Leahy, he needs to either actually follow through or shut up. I am tired of hearing him only say what needs to be done. Actions speak louder than words.
What Greenback1 said, basically... but angrier. - mrurc, on 11/30/2007, -0/+6Summary: "Oh, you mean that the executive didn't actually know about this? But if you want to claim executive privilege, the executive has to actually be involved."
One or the other. The president didn't know OR it gets executive privilege, but not both. BAHA. - EBFoxbat, on 11/30/2007, -0/+6I'm so very, very confused.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5A foot up someones ass is long overdue.
- EBFoxbat, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5Later today: Bush issues executive order stating executive orders can be issued for things utterly unrelated to anything pertaining to, or originating from, the executive branch. This same executive order claims the "Checks and Balances" does not pertain to the Executive Branch as "Checks" are clearly Congress and "Balances" are clearly the Judiciary therefore the un-specified Executive Branch must, by default, supersede them both.
Executive orders extending the power of an executive order (which clearly is the business of the Executive Branch and therefor applicable and legal). It's like GNU and other recursive acronyms. It's a recursive executive order, get it? It's all very political, I know. - RabidAngel, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5No. People want their freedom, their rights, and their country back.
- jimmyhoffa2222, on 11/30/2007, -1/+6Nothing will happen, leahy is all talk and no action, unfortunately.
I think rove, bush, cheney, rumsfeld, rice, wolfowitz, libby and armitage should be sent to prison. - ZiggityZhang, on 11/30/2007, -1/+6"The next time you're holding the gun, pull the goddam trigger."
-Kitty Foreman - ladybroadoak, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4Anyone interested in clearing the way for impeachment by removal of Pelosi as speaker; making sure state Legislatures will move to make motions to censure AND prepare a case to go to The Hague for WAR CREMES< please head to my blog, www.ladybroadoak.blogpot.com or to the Daily Kos or to afterdowningstreet.com. These are very serious legal maneuverings, highly illegal, and we must move to ensure ALL legal steps are taken to IMPEACH, as that is the legal remedy. Just put impeachment of Richard Cheney in the search box of my blog for TONS Of information. Pass it on.
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4Don't blame us for damaging the office. The guy who ordered torture, obstructed justice, spied on US citizens and illegally invaded two other nations did that. We're simply pointing it out. BTW, your opinion of my feelings toward the USA doesn't really matter. You don't know me. Remember?
"purger?" - jeremyduffy, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4I'll take Perjury any day. It's like Al Capone. Couldn't nail him for being in the mob, but they got him on tax evasion. Either way, he was in jail and justice was finally served.
Still waiting for justice on Bush. - sotopheavy, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4Do you ever stop and wonder if the democratic inaction is planned. Strategically, if they sit there and do not do exactly what we elected them to do even when we call them pussies we will want them to act even more. Are they sitting back, watching and waiting for the presidential approval rating to drop further? Are they letting us get more and more frustrated until we demand impeachment as well as blantently allow them to do whatever it takes to fight republicans? Are they holding their fire until they see the whites of the republicans eyes? If they had come out with guns ablazing would they have easily been labeled as just as partisan as the republicans? Remember that Bush and Cheney must be held responsible for what they have done. This does not mean that Those that replace and hold accountable the worst administration of all time can be fully trusted to do whats best for America. We must continue to keep just as close an eye on the democrats as we do on the republicans despite the democrat momentum that is building. Our founding fathers would not have us pick a side, they would just want us to support what is best for our great nation, wherever it comes from.
- jeremyduffy, on 11/30/2007, -0/+3At least he TALKS. Yes, action would be nice, but to many others shut up and sit down.
- joshua5, on 11/30/2007, -0/+3Senator Leahy seems to have a way of spouting a lot of hot air that sounds good but never has any real follow through.
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -0/+3you neocon herd-follower ***** deny and deny and deny, then when you're proved wrong you just go so what get over it it's old news.
over and over and over. - yutt, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2But, Clinton?
- 3szoom, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2WTF are you talking about?
- Justizzle, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2I'd like to seem them put in prison for their crimes and possibly executed, but that's a little something I call "wishful thinking"
I know it's been said a million times, and yeah I'm one of those Digg readers that reads all the Marijuana stories and such, but come on (anyone who doesn't realize it), we're putting people in prison for stupid ***** (sometimes, I mean murderers should go, but a couple small time drug dealers?), meanwhile these (to steal a line from George Carlin) country club pin-headed pricks are getting away with the real crimes. - principle, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2Leahy is stalling, he even saying that Bush was not involved before finding of facts. What an embarrassing and disgraceful situation for the Democrats. If they don’t confront Bush they will never regain their dignity.
- Urusai, on 11/30/2007, -3/+4Then I hope somebody busts one in your dome, sucka.
- Acewrap, on 11/30/2007, -2/+3I don't think this is frivolous. Why do you hate the rule of law, and by extension, America?
- bjornski, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1The same one that appointed Bush.
It'll never happen. - inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1bump!
- bjornski, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1You mean like they did with Clinton?
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1mmmmmm, war cremes
- pdross2000, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1What really happened it Leahy wrote "I hereby rule that those claims are not legally valid to excuse current and former White House employees from appearing, testifying and producing documents related to this investigation".
Now whether the employees "excuse" is legally valid or not and whether Leahy has the power or not to decide if someone's excuse must be decided by a court. - inactive, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1prison, hell, send them to some Kurdish village in iraq and leave them. how's your power network NOW bitches?
- KSpark, on 11/30/2007, -2/+2pwnt
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 11/30/2007, -3/+2First... I hope they Impeach Bush, and Cheney and place them on trial for crimes against humanity. Absolutely, if everything was equal this would happen. Something like a million people dead in Iraq accounting all deaths? Not yet?
Secondly, understand that public knowledge is often radically different from what is really happening. Certain things cannot be said or are said, for political reasons, to maneuver the country in and out of certain situations. And other times, people are too lazy or busy to investigate and learn about things for themselves. I respect that this happens. Despite my views, and I am willing to change my view if new information was to become available.
Perahps that makes my opinion more worthy, iI don't know. - greaseddeafguy, on 11/30/2007, -4/+0i am against a senate panel that wastes tax payer money and time to hold hearings about a crime that really isn't a crime in order to pressure an administration official to purger themselves just because that don't like Bush's policies.
And I think those that spend all day trashing the President of the United States are the ones who hate America. It is one thing to disagree with policy, it is another to in effect damage the office in order to damage the man sitting in it.♠ - FIREMILLEN, on 11/30/2007, -5/+1What government job does he have? Thought so.
- FIREMILLEN, on 11/30/2007, -5/+1I'LL SEE YOU IN THUG MANSION, BUSTA
- greaseddeafguy, on 11/30/2007, -7/+1I thought the dems promised to work hard for real change in America, and not to just waste time with frivolous witch hunts.
- loginabove, on 11/30/2007, -8/+1Who are all of the War Criminals?
Let's make a list.
Who ar h ons ho killed JFK?
Was that big daddy Bush and his Cubans? - inactive, on 11/30/2007, -10/+1You liberals really are a mean-spirited bunch. You want your pound of flesh, no matter how foolish it makes you look. Rove, Bolton, Liddy, et al are GONE! GET OVER IT! I fully expect you nut jobs to disinter Nixon and impeach him.
- FIREMILLEN, on 11/30/2007, -20/+4RAW STORY SUCKS ASS. AND I LOVE CAPS!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH
