- Lomstradamus, on 11/14/2007, -7/+86ieye and the other neoconservatives hate it when people remind them that we have a Constitution. They've been living for 6 years as if one never existed.
They want Dictator Bush to be their leader for ever.
Idiots! - kermit4karate, on 11/12/2007, -11/+82Bernie Sanders is a great American, and I don't think you could recognize a true Socialist if one bit you in the arse. Sanders, like very few electeds in America, gives intelligent, truly honest answers to the critically important questions of our time. He speaks out against the corporatist wrongdoings of members of BOTH major parties. Without looking it up online, I'd wager that few Americans are even aware that Sanders, along with Joe Lieberman, is one of only two Independents serving in the United States Senate today. Hell, most Americans don't even know how many people SERVE in the U.S. Senate, much less know a damn thing about Bernie Sanders. If you want to talk about frightening, that frightens me a lot more than Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -2/+60An executive branch that shamelessly disregards the constitution should not only be impeached, they should go to jail. And that includes their staff too.
- lovelyrita, on 11/12/2007, -5/+52I completely agree with Sen. Sanders! What other Senator has a weekly talk radio engagement where he takes calls from listeners? I really enjoy listening to his inside view of congress.
- toddcat, on 11/12/2007, -9/+55Socialist-as opposed to Fascist W.
- ChristPissed, on 11/12/2007, -4/+42"Watch the key power brokers in the democratic party - Feinstein, Boxer, Leahy - see how they fold to do Bush's wishes over and over? They TALK tough but watch their votes.
These people have been COMPRIMISED. The AT&T spying operation in San Francisco was used to spy on Boxer, Feinstein and the activities of the Democrats. Watch how Bush knows every move they make before they make it. These three congress persons show every sign of people who know that Bush Cheeny have something on them, likley gained through spying and that if they don't vote they way they are told, their careers are finished. Bush Cheeny spend every minute of every day displaying their power to go after anybody, children even. People need to watch key Democrats closley - observe how the use of the LAW is never approved. They had to only control ONE PERSON, Boxer, to stop any threat of impeachment. This is how the system works - control key members who hold the gateway to decisions.
WATCH WHAT GOES ON - ALL THE SIGNS OF A FIXED SYSTEM IS IN PLACE!
These techniques have been used in politics forever... don't dismiss them. MAKE A LIST OF COMPRIMISED DEMOCRATS AND SEE THEIR ENDLESS PATTERN OF, IN THE END, SIDING WITH BUSH... TALK IS CHEAP - WATCH THEIR ACTIONS!" -comment by electricphoto - thebellmaster1x, on 11/12/2007, -6/+41Don't mention Sanders and Lieberman together in a sentence. It demeans Sanders.
- thebellmaster1x, on 11/14/2007, -4/+30...Or Kucinich.
You do have options, people. - inactive, on 11/14/2007, -3/+27But the terrorists will get us! You'll be wishing we didn't have a Constitution after the next terrorist attack.
I'd put a /sarcasm, but far too many people make this exact argument. How do you get so deluded? - geddon, on 11/13/2007, -3/+26"But what is so deeply disturbing about the current state of the conservative movement [in the United States] is that it has otherwise plainly adopted not only many of the cosmetic traits of fascism, its larger architecture -- derived from its core impulses — now almost exactly replicates that by which fascists came to power in Italy and Germany in the 1920s and '30s."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo-Fascism - s35wf, on 11/14/2007, -29/+52End the Iraq War. End the Drug War. End the Tax War!
VOTE RON PAUL 2008! - Itazura, on 11/12/2007, -1/+23Honestly you cannot blame Bush alone on such un-intelligence. The fact that almost every one I try and talk to about Habeas Corpus has no clue what it is and don't believe it is gone once I explain America doesn't have it anymore. This includes many many college level students and even law enforcement. America needs to increase its overall intelligence and not just pretend if they vote that someone intelligent will do all the decision making for them.
- inactive, on 11/12/2007, -3/+25Oh for ***** sake. Take yourself down off your cross.
- Mise777, on 11/12/2007, -5/+24To the neocons anyone who is not a blatant fascist is a "socialist."
- amoirae, on 11/12/2007, -1/+19Or stay on the cross until I can get nails and gasoline.
- Anub1s, on 11/12/2007, -5/+22Something is really driving me nuts here. There's WAY too many stories on here about certain senators and public officials criticizing Bush and saying that what he's been doing in unconstitutional. If you REALLY feel that way, then why the hell aren't you doing something about it? Good God, he NEEDS to be impeached, there's no if's, and's, or but's about it. He's a war criminal, has screwed up this national almost to the breaking point, and it's going to be hard for anyone to clean up the mess he's made.
Seriously people, don't just bitch about it, do something about it. - arbulus, on 11/12/2007, -1/+13Lieberman only became an independent so he could keep his job. He doesn't give a ***** about doing the right thing, fighting the two party system or even being a decent human being. All he cares about is keeping his job and the american people come in at a very distant second.
- TheLoneHoot, on 11/12/2007, -0/+12So you seem to think, in an arguably racist way, that President Clinton was neglectful of the constitution to the degree President Chimpy and his cabal are? Please cite your references.
- inactive, on 11/12/2007, -2/+14Oh no, the socialist boogeyman!
What do you think gets your roads built and maintained, police, schools, firefighters, etc? - VitriolAndAngst, on 11/12/2007, -1/+13-- Totally agree ChristPissed. In the past, internal spying was used by Hoover to blackmail other politicos and people in the media into submission. We can see the same pattern today. The Bush Crime Family acts exactly like the mob -- but with a little less shame. It's no accident that people like Mark Foley got promoted and endorsed by Rove AFTER he found out some dirt on them. Dirt = Trust. The DNC Democrats for the most part, have been compromised.
I think we need to start talking about some sort of "Amnesty" system, that if politicians come forward and testify to what they've been forced to do, and the crimes, up to and including child molestation and murder -- cannot be used against them. I know that sounds horrible to many -- but if this BushCo extorsion ring is allowed to continue, we won't have even the opportunity to get our Democracy back. In war, attrocities and abuses happen every day -- there is nothing worse. - arbulus, on 11/14/2007, -0/+11Or Mike Gravel.
- inactive, on 11/13/2007, -2/+13While I agree that Bush has done everything in the name of fighting terrorism and has virtually run this country into the proverbial ground - every President since Roosevelt has done the same thing. I hate to stand and preach - but Adams was clear in what he believed the President should be: A spokesman for the Government (not the people, mind you). The Supreme Court was designed to mediate and interpret the law - and Congress was there to assure that the people had a voice in government. Between the inception of our Country and now - the President has slowly assimilated more and more power. This was NEVER the intent - more than anything, he was there to keep the best interests of the nation in hand (listen up, George, this means foregoing your theological and political *****) instead of HIS OWN.
Realistically - the President should be at the whim of the judicial and congressional branches of government - not the other way around. I fail to understand how Republicans still stand behind this man even when he continuously ignores what it means to be conservative. I'm a true conservative, and I've had issues with Bush since he took his second term. He spends money we don't have, starts wars where we have no jurisdiction and/or justification to do so, and continues to prove that his religious views are more important than the stability of this country.
Listen up - America, the only way we're going to take back our country is to launch a political offensive against those that would seek to destroy us from the inside. Take up arms, and VOTE. Exercise your man-given (not god) right to decide what is best for you and your family. Don't allow the neo-conservative, ultra-right wing christian radicals to do it for you. The ability to save this country is in your hands. - siszam, on 11/12/2007, -3/+14Calling someone a Socialist is a compliment. Socialists care for others and don't think an elite few should have all the benefits. You should educate yourself. That does not mean sit down in front of Fox news.
- spyd3rweb, on 11/12/2007, -3/+13You're supposed to impeach and remove those who don't uphold the constitution or execute their oath of office, not just give them a slap on the wrist.
- TheLoneHoot, on 11/12/2007, -0/+10Yes, just because Lieberman switched from the Democratic label to "Independent", it can't hide the fact that he's a REPUBLICAN. Remember "the kiss".
- MacEnvy, on 11/12/2007, -3/+13Only if you can point me to where he said it. Otherwise it's just the blathering of a troll.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 11/12/2007, -0/+10The corporatists have done this by design. Yes, the American public is ignorant of a lot of things -- but we need government to push real education, and the educated public to push the Government. Somehow we lost both. But that was by design.
- delafere, on 11/12/2007, -0/+9*****. Toni Morrison called him that. Then Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson did. And yet, what is your point in a thread about Bush (arguably our first idiot president) not understanding or recognizing the significance of the constitution?
- DavidYeah, on 11/12/2007, -1/+10So.. socialists can't be great Americans? Is that the meat of the argument here?
- MrWhite7, on 11/12/2007, -0/+8For the last six years," says America, "it is clear that we have had a Congress that does not understand what the Constitution of the United States is about. What this Congress believes, essentially, is that it can let the President do anything he wants, at any time, against anybody, in the name of fighting terrorism, without taking any responsibility of its own..
- CoolWind, on 11/14/2007, -0/+8There are so many things Bush does NOT understand.
- toddcat, on 11/12/2007, -1/+9Just go away. Nobody likes you. People like you are part of the reason this country and the world are in such a dire way right now.
- applepro, on 11/12/2007, -1/+9Bush can't spell "Constitution".
- thebellmaster1x, on 11/12/2007, -1/+9We know.
Now why the hell won't politicians do anything about it? - rarson, on 11/12/2007, -0/+7I agree with bangor. I almost agree with you, that we shouldn't allow our second Amendment rights to be taken away... most people think "Why do you need to own an assault rifle?" Well, it's that part about a "well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State..." This means, plain and clear, that the government has big ***** guns, and one day, we'll need big ***** guns too if we ever have to fight for our freedom again. It's that simple. Why you would ever want to take away your ability to defend yourself from your government is beyond me.
Anyway, I digress. You totally turned me off by yelling about "***** liberals." If you can't explain your point of view in a rational manner, backed with facts, how do you ever expect anyone to actually agree with you? - inactive, on 11/12/2007, -5/+12Do any of you stupid bastards know what socialism actually is?
- inactive, on 11/12/2007, -0/+7Who said anyone had to respect that far-right opinion?
- delafere, on 11/12/2007, -0/+6That's some extra special logic there, Lukas, and a powerful demonstration of your intimate knowledge of the Constitution. No trial means someone is *proven* innocent! Cool! We should just get rid of trials and we'll have a crime-free society!
I guess when Cheney has further disabled or totally co-opted the powers of the other two branches of government and hidden all the evidence under NSA seal, then in your mind he'll be *completely* innocent. I guess the Unitary Executive is the most innocent of all leaders, huh? Awesome. /sarcasm - Anub1s, on 11/11/2007, -0/+6Apparenlty then these democrats are WILLINGLY allowing the president to destroy this country, and it's reputation. Not to mention the lives of millions of people inside and outside of this country. That doesn't bode well for the democrats for me at least. This country is doomed, flat out doomed. The representatives and administration are keen to allow bad things to happen simply for political gain, we REALLY need to change how this country is ran.
- thecatcantalk, on 11/12/2007, -1/+7Finally. A Congressman who didn't flunk Constitutional Law 101, in law school.
Impeach, convict, imprison. Repeat if necessary. - scottknick, on 11/12/2007, -3/+9Yes, and Article One Section Eight says only Congress has the power to declare war.
Article One Section Nine says that Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended except during rebellion or invasion -- and it doesn't count if we're the ones doing the invading.
Article Two Section Two says the president must "take care that the laws be faithfully executed." Nothing in there about signing statements.
No wonder George Bush considers the United States Constitution "Just a god-damned piece of paper." - cranium, on 11/12/2007, -2/+8The democrats think they have the people boxed in right now. If they don't do anything, people will be turning out in *droves* for the '08 election, and they will *not* be voting republican. They're taking advantage of the negative energy toward republicans.
If they solve the problem now, some of that negative energy will dissipate before the '08 elections. - rarson, on 11/12/2007, -0/+6The words of politics today are so distorted. You have to look at context, and the whole picture.
Typically, people either lean towards social programs, or free market. There are many of varying degrees between the two sides, but ultimately, most people fall somewhere on that line. On this line, people generally end up benefitting in some way either way: with social programs, we can provide help for people that need it. With free market, we can allow people to spend their money how they want and let their dollars speak for what they want. Largely different means, but similar ends: people benefit.
Now the problem is, there's another line that runs parallel to this line, with the same labels, that most people don't recognize. This is the line upon which neocons and neoliberals reside. They use the same labels because they are tricking the people who reside on the other line into thinking that they are preaching what the people want. Again, they use different means, but the ends are basically the same: people in power/rich people/corporations benefit, at the expense of everyone else.
If you look closely enough, you'll see that the stuff on this second line doesn't really fit and it's all mislabeled and inaccurately described to fool people into thinking that it is what it says it is. NAFTA is supposed to be about free trade, but it isn't. Social programs are supposed to be about helping people, but they waste our tax dollars and expand our already bloated government, encourage government dependence, or they just don't work (I'm not saying ALL social programs, but the ones that neocons and neolibs come up with, like No Child Left Behind), all of which end up HURTING the people.
This is why you have people saying that the two parties are the same, why Americans are crying out for change, and why so many people hate both Bush AND Congress. Because most of Congress, and Bush, are all on the same line, working towards the goal of making more money for themselves and other people in power who share the wealth with them. They pretend to have different opinions on various subjects, and maybe they would like to make things work THEIR way, but the ends are the same, so when Bush says he wants to keep the troops in Iraq, Congress says it doesn't, but doesn't do anything to bring them home, because they really just want to keep them over there, just like Bush.
Americans need to recognize that there are Democrats and Republicans that are for corporations, and there are Democrats and Republicans for the PEOPLE. I guarantee that if we elect someone competent who is for the people, regardless of what their party is and how they decide to do things, the people will benefit in some way. And likewise, if we choose to elect someone who is for corporations, the people will be hurt regardless of which party it is. In that respect, America NEEDS to stop thinking about voting in terms of party and start looking at the candidates who genuinely want to work for the people. Stop buying all the ***** that you see on TV. - MacEnvy, on 11/12/2007, -1/+6I accept my 0wn4ge.
*tips hat to theblooms* - kd1s, on 11/12/2007, -0/+5When you consider that the Attorney General's we've had over the last seven years have been total ideologues and less than stellar performers you see the general pattern emerging. We cannot trust either party, Republican or Democrat.
First we had Ashcroft, a man who veiled the statues in justice because he felt their nudity was against his views of decency.
Then of course we had Gonzalez, the many who considered the Geneva Conventions quaint and obsolete.
And now Mukasey. Honestly, what the hell are the Democrats thinking? Could they not have grown a set and blocked this confirmation? Granted I'm happy we're seeing oversight activity returning to congress, but how about some gumption, some integrity, some balls? - inactive, on 11/12/2007, -1/+6"abolish private property and regulate nearly every price and wage"
