- scientician, on 05/29/2008, -16/+52Dugg. This is how the left can utilitze its massive online activism advantage. The right has chain letters calling Obama a traitor and secret muslim, we have the google.
- Macrophage, on 05/29/2008, -3/+13Excellent. Like John Lennon sang...ALL I WANT IS THE TRUTH
PEACE
John - nowheredesign, on 05/29/2008, -8/+15I Dugg ya, CB.

:::: - MacEnvy, on 05/30/2008, -1/+8Bush's incuriousness is the exact reason we need to make sure our leaders WANT to know the truth about what's going on in the world. McCain, with his "Iran is funding al Qaeda" baloney, is exactly why we should elect someone who is capable and willing to explore the root causes behind Middle Eastern hostilities.
I can guarantee you right now that continuing a policy of misunderstanding and hawkishness on Middle Eastern policy is the best way to ensure increased violence both in the region and abroad.
When you have a person like McCain as president, who must be corrected on the basic dynamics of Arab geopolitics by none other than Joe Lieberman, you will see an increase in hostilities by these countries. They have nothing to lose on the international stage - and why would they be persuaded otherwise, when the president doesn't even know what the conflict is about or who the major players are.
McCain's claim on "experience" is about as short-sighted as Cheney believing that we would be "greeted as liberators". No thanks - I'd rather have a president that can take a hard stance against extremism while encouraging the growth of democratic reforms and cross-cultural cooperation in the region.
Obama '08-'16 - Mejari, on 05/30/2008, -0/+7Yeah, changing names is silly, calling people chimps is much more mature.
- phrenzy, on 05/30/2008, -5/+12Again the legacy of Rove..
I resent the fact that I have to be AGAINST Mc Cain in order to be FOR Obama.
How about this - They are both trying to do what they think is good for the country but have different ideas on how to get there.
I prefer Obama's policies and political philosophy. Is that so wrong? - scientician, on 05/29/2008, -6/+12What exactly was George W. Bush's experience? He hadn't even left North America when he became president.
Don't give me "governor of texas" all he did there was execute people. Texas has a weak governor system.
And Carter was a better president than W to boot. It's not his fault the traitor Reagan secretly negotiated with the Iranians to prevent a deal on the hostages until Reagan took office. - MacEnvy, on 05/30/2008, -1/+7Yes, of course - Obama and Clinton stole all of Paul's thunder. Let's forget that he was unable to break 15% in ANY Republican primary, and blame the Democrats for the fact that he was catastrophically out of step with what modern Republicans believe in.
The only way RP would have captured the national stage is to have become the Libertarian candidate, and I'm afraid Mr. Barr (the least Libertarian candidate ever to grace that ballot line) now has that honor.
I donated to Ron Paul because I believed his perspective was necessary in the Republican primary. I'm more than a little discouraged that he chose to hoard that money rather than spend it fighting McCain. I guess I've learned my lesson - the Republican Party is NOT was it was 40 years ago, and never again will be. - kevintimba, on 05/29/2008, -8/+13Genius idea.
- TheWorm, on 05/30/2008, -7/+12Sorry, I'm not buying that anything from that website is "non partisan"
- inactive, on 05/30/2008, -0/+5Absolutely not. I have no problem with Obama supporters. All I ask is that they grant the same respect I show them for my opposing viewpoint. Instead, it seems like the same people upset at the divisiveness the current administration has created are perfectly content with sustaining that divide with their reactions to those that have a different opinion than their own.
- EtherGnat, on 05/30/2008, -0/+4If you look at historical Presidents you'll find very little correlation between experience and how well they served.
- inactive, on 05/29/2008, -5/+9republican dittos
- Temo1, on 05/30/2008, -1/+5I totally agree, phrenzy. I'm a McCain supporter, but I've always felt that our country would be in good hands with Obama. However, recently with all the digg spam in support of Obama, I've started to "hate" him-- until I realized that I was just getting incensed at all the partisan rancor and cheap shots of a relatively few and shouldn't transfer that hatred to the candidate.
It's really, really, hard- ever since Bush and the Neo-cons came into the political scene (and maybe even before that with all the Bill Clinton hatred among Repubs) to not get caught up in that. Sometimes it just seems that's how politics works these days. - B3000, on 05/30/2008, -3/+7As much as I dislike Clinton - and I dislike her A LOT - at least she wants to get our troops out of Iraq, has a better environmental policy in play, has a better understanding of the economy, understands the difference between Sunni and Shiite, Iran and Al Queda and the hierarchy of Iranian politics. Furthermore, the next president is probably going to get to seat a couple more supreme court judges, unless we want the most influential panel of people in US law to be populated solely by ultra-right wing conservatives, we should all chose Clinton over McCain should it come to that - and Good Lord in heaven I hope it does not come to that.
OBAMA '08
Oh, also, if you want to know why everyone hates McCain, RTFA, (or at least the articles it links to) - B3000, on 05/30/2008, -2/+6On the one hand, I applaud your fair-tempered focus on positivity over divisive hostility. On the other hand, your weakness is disgusting to me.
Honestly, as an Obama supporter, I look to him to take the high road and avoid running an attack based campaign. However, McCain does have some frightening policy ideas, a self admitted lack of knowledge about the economy and a distressing lack of comprehension when it comes to who's who in the middle east. Spreading the word about policy issues is not the same as spreading nasty rumors, making conjecture about a candidate based on personal associates, or race/gender/class baiting. Whether the man has good intentions or not, someone needs to get this information before the public and if that responsibility lies with the interweb-nerd contingent, then I am more than happy to oblige. - inactive, on 05/29/2008, -19/+22Posted on openleft.com and dialykos.com, bashes the republican candidate while ignoring the democratic candidates, and it's "non-partisan"?
Ok, terrific....and buried. - inactive, on 05/30/2008, -1/+4No doubt.
- junkwheel, on 05/30/2008, -1/+4THE GREAT TUBES OF JUSTICE.
- inactive, on 05/29/2008, -6/+9Defending Carter? He made Ford look like a great president.
You've either got balls, no brain, or both. - inactive, on 05/30/2008, -10/+131 can SPAM, grated or finely minced (I found a food processor is good for this)
1/2 cup water chestnuts, chopped
2 stalks green onion, sliced
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 Tbsp. oyster sauce
1 egg
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. sugar
1 pkg. won ton wrappers
1 egg white lightly beaten
oil for frying - MacEnvy, on 05/30/2008, -2/+5Good advice coming from the RNC. And predictably poor math skills. Must be those religious charter schools at work.
- B3000, on 05/30/2008, -1/+4There is a difference between a smear campaign - which makes personal attacks, starts vicious rumors, and engages in class/gender/race baiting - and a campaign to distribute factual and relevant policy issues.
- pintomp3, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2it would be misinformation if the articles were untrue. it's not like they are claiming he has an illegitimate black child.
- inactive, on 05/30/2008, -10/+12Why is there always a secret "truth" with you people? I'm sure Barack has a few skeletons in his closet too. Half the ***** any politicians say is just pandering, so who's to say what is truth and what is not?
- boozinf, on 05/30/2008, -1/+3Was that meant to be some kind of pun on the whole asian-food-cat thing based on McCain's experience in Vietnam?
Well-played. - kreneskyp, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2because mccain is unpredictable. His stances on issues took a major change in the past few years. He has embraced the failed policies of Bush to garner support. We have no idea whether he will return to his former self after the election or if he'll stick with them for 4 years until he can get reelected.
I don't want a leader who will follow failed policies for political reasons when were on the brink of a recession, or worse a depression. - B3000, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2I can't believe you support McCain, but I'll digg your comment anyway because you are totally right. (about the divisiveness, not about supporting McCain ;>D)
Although, I will say that you are a far cry from most McCain supporters I've talked to, who still seem to think Obama has some sneaky hidden agenda to destroy the US. It is difficult not to respond to that type of thing in kind.
Wait, am I being passive-aggressively divisive while praising your attempts to not be divisive? *****... this is hard. - MacEnvy, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2I would never bogart a joint. Puff puff pass, share the love.
- ScientistBlah, on 05/30/2008, -2/+4I thought I was reading a description for a new mmorpg for a while.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+2Awesome, an internet scavenger hunt!
- Root2dir, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2you my friend speak with great wisdom. While I don't agree with your choice in candidates, I do respect your opinion especially when you voice it in such an intelligent way.
- chaosium, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2"McCain is done now that we have Murdoch on our side."
Sounds like a specious argument to me. - inactive, on 05/30/2008, -2/+3Did you read the Digg description? I know you definitely didn't go to the "sight" and read the article.
A Bush supporter, no. I defend Bush when unwarranted attacks are thrown at him. I do the same for Hillary and McCain too. I'd say that I do the same for Obama, but it's pretty tough to find an article on Digg that speaks ill of Obama, let alone is a baseless attack. Any article speaking ill of Obama never sees the light of day here.
Bias? Yeah you could say that the majority of Digg users are. - B3000, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1I was joking about the "your weakness is disgusting to me part". It's a line from The Foot Fist Way trailer. Sorry, I know that it is hard to read humor sometimes, especially when you don't know a person and when said joke is surrounded by honest examples of the same type of exchange. I just hate adding a /joke or /sarcasm tag.
I certainly understand your frustration with the level of dialog which takes place on Digg. For a while I was ready to bail on Digg because of the narrow minded horde mentality that crops up here. It is a little scary and more than a bit frustrating when trying to engage in honest dialog. I am not trying to add to the pile. I don't hate McCain the man, the way I hate Bush, however I do have honest problems with McCain's stances and his comprehension of current affairs.
As far as wanting more legitimate sources, well, I tend to concur. With all the rancor against the MSM here on digg a lot of slanted and barely reputable hackery gets passed around without a second glance. However, the article that we're discussing provides links to articles from LA Times, CNN, CBS, AOL, MSNBC, and Salon. Are those good enough for you?
Oh, and frightening policy idea #1 goes to the tune of a Beach Boys song. Maybe you know it? - aaroh, on 05/30/2008, -4/+5The bomb bomb bomb McCain Campaign - a much catchier tittle.
- addicted68098, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2Has anyone noticed a pattern of politicians being people with standards and morals then becoming a presidential nominee and becoming a complete idiot. Look how Obama Clinton McCain have changed in the last couple years. This is far from a coincidence...it must be mind control.
- nickvdk, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1You are the idiot.
All these articles have quotes from McCain himself and are on record for everyone to see. Unlike most Republican supporters, we use a thing called "evidence", "statistics" and "quotes" to support an argument.
All Republican supporters can do is spread 'hear-say' rumors about Obama e.g. him being a Muslim or unpatriotic. - btote, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Wow, you all really see this as a smear campaign? Maybe you don't understand the mainstream media's infatuation with McCain, or what that implies. We're talking about the same media that helped Bush lie us into a war in Iraq, lest ye forget. Moreover, your disparaging remarks will have no effect on the outcome of this campaign, as I'm sure you know. Just a heads up.
- chaosium, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2Why would the Democrats listen to Republicans talk about what Dems "should be".
- B3000, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1I never understood why people would want to hunt scavengers. If they didn't feed off of carrion, there would just be more decaying corpses around. And who wants that? Not me. So I say, "Leave scavengers alone and go hunt something else."
- inactive, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Scientician-
An authoritative individual of questionable medical, scientific and/or scholastic merit.
So very true but after reading your post I'm inclined to add retarded before "authoritative individual".
Boy, you need help.
- ChristPissed, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1If spreading facts and truth about a republican candidate is now relabeled as "republican bashing", then count me in.
Let the anti-truthers enjoy their fussy-fit. - LastVisibleDog, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Don't Bogart that joint, my friend
- banderwocky, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1"I'm going to be honest: I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues. I still need to be educated."
"At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c*nt." -to his wife, Cindy, after she playfully twirled his hair and said "You're getting a little thin up there," as reported in the book The Real McCain by Cliff Schecter
I am a Republican. I'm loyal to the party of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. And I believe that my party, in some ways, has strayed from those principles, particularly on the issue of fiscal discipline.
John McCain
I don't mean to pick on John Sidney McCain III. I think the whole American political process is a joke. I hope Johnny wins. It will be 4 more years of good TV. - Mokshaguy390, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1I win. He's on Sci-fi every Friday night at 10.
- toker200, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1Seriously a vote for McCain is a vote for 8 more yrs of Bush if he lives that long
- maclauk, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1This campaign is not bashing McCain for anything underhand. It is merely raising the profile of positions taken by McCain that would not be popular with the electorate as a whole. In a two party system highlighting the unpopular positions of the opposition is a legitimate action to take. There is no underhand smear here, no comment on his family or his associates, no untruths. It just looks to make John McCain's political position on several issues more prominent with most of them being carried by mainstream news organisations.
