McCain 894/899 at the navel academy and Palin went to Hawai'i Pacific University — as a freshman in the business administration program in 1982. But she only stayed one semester. Then Palin transferred to North Idaho College for the 1983-1984 school year and eventually graduated from the University of Idaho in 1987. Oh and she was second place for Miss Alaska. - joaob, on 08/30/2008, -28/+128“I think she is the most inexperienced person on a major party ticket in modern history,” said presidential historian Matthew Dallek.
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -33/+118People really are shocked. And not in a good way. If there was ever a time for the media to do what the founders intended them to do, now is the time. This ain't a joke/game anymore. McCain is more dangerous than Bush and they need to stop protecting McCain.
- Funyn, on 08/30/2008, -17/+86Here's where they're irrelevant:
Those 14 years were in a town that only had 7000 people. There are high schools that have larger populations than that city. That's like saying someone who was class president of UCLA has executive experience because it has a population of 20,000+.
Hell, Chicago has more people in it than all of Alaska combined, and I'm absolutely certain that the areas Obama worked as an organizer in were more than 7000 people. She has absolutely no experience working outside her tiny Alaskan bubble. - AxmxZ, on 08/30/2008, -24/+91I think McCain is still pissed at the GOP for shredding him in 2000, so he hatched this elaborate plan to get his revenge by humiliating the ***** out of them in 2008.
Seriously, that's the only logical explanation. - jizzlies, on 08/30/2008, -44/+95I'm going out on a limb here, but I'd say Urkel is more qualified than she is:
http://www.bofads.com/stories/UrkelScreech.htm - RekCognize, on 08/30/2008, -21/+64"But out-of-the-box picks in recent years have not usually worked out too well for the top of the ticket. Consider independent candidate Ross Perot’s 1992 running mate, former Navy Adm. James Stockdale, who famously asked at the vice presidential debate with Gore and Quayle, “Who am I, why am I here?”
What all the excited GOP fans are forgetting -- she can't afford to have ONE gaffe. She'll have to be pitch perfect at every appearance or they're both in trouble. Oh this sh*t is delicious! - catherder702, on 08/30/2008, -28/+71John McCain does not want to be President of the United States. He's alienating his own constituency, has zero chance of picking up irate Clinton voters (these are all pro-choice gals) and seems Hell bent on making a complete fool of himself. Is there a mole in the Republican camp who is telling McCain to do stupid things like selecting an ex-beauty queen soccer mom with zero experience on a national level for Veep? Plus, she's freaking being investigated! Hello, hello? Anybody home?
- sulthernao, on 08/30/2008, -14/+52The town mayor job description was:
1. Break ties in town counsel votes
2. Ceremonial head of town.
That is not executive experience. Sorry. - poidh, on 08/30/2008, -29/+63Every ***** post on the front page is about this ***** just about.
- mikelieman, on 08/30/2008, -12/+43She believes SCIENCE supports the hypothesis that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old.
She's not qualified for School Board. - DD2CC2U, on 08/30/2008, -30/+55McCain and his staff are incompetent!
- Yarmin3, on 08/30/2008, -9/+34Some people say she's more qualified than Obama because Obama's never ran anything, while she's ran a US State for 2 years.
First of all, if this is true then she's more qualified than McCain and second of all the powers exercised by a senator and a president or VP at the federal level should be mutually exclusive from powers possessed at the state level. A state governor or senator does not set tariff levels, make military decisions or set any type of foreign policy. But a US Senator has a hand in all these decisions just like a president does. So a senator has more experience to be president than a governor does.
Everything done as a governor, from health care, drug enforcement and education policy should have no advantage when becoming a president because the federal government has no powers to decide these domestic policies under the US constitution. - dn11, on 08/30/2008, -6/+28she's popular with the religious right, she's a life long NRA member, she's a "hockey mom" with a touching story of a down syndrome infant ... you're underestimating the pure evil and cynicism of the republican party - they intend to win.
- Dereliction, on 08/31/2008, -4/+26Palin was not mayor for 10 years. She was on the city council from 92 to 96. Keep in mind that the population of Wasilla at the time Palin was mayor was a mere 4,500-5,000--not even as "large" as it is now.
Sorry, I don't have years to attribute for all of Obama's but one of the things I would point out is that Obama is, himself, a scholar of Constitutional law, having acted as a lecturer and senior lecturer for a total of 12 years at one of the most prestigious law universities in the nation (Univ. of Chicago). That alone qualifies him more for president than anything Palin has done in her entire life, or any past lives, should there be any ...
Finally, Obama in terms of public life--not necessarily public office, but public life--is far more extensive, diverse, and active than anything Palin has done. Obama has demonstrated that he is a servant of the people, time and again. I'd suggest that 2 years on the Illinois senate equates to far more experience than all of Palin's political experience, and Obama has accomplished far more than that.
Frankly, there is no comparison between the two in terms of experience. It is not a contest that Palin can win.

Grammy Winner, Dreams From My Father audio edition 06' - tcbishop12, on 08/30/2008, -12/+31Biden is the senior United States Senator from Delaware. Born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania for ten years prior to moving to Delaware, Biden trained as a lawyer and became a senator in 1973 at age 30, the fifth-youngest senator in U.S. history.
He has served as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, dealing with issues related to drug policy, crime prevention, women's rights and civil liberties. He is a long-time member and current chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and has worked on resolutions concerning the Yugoslav wars and Iraq War.
In his sixth consecutive term in the Senate, Biden has served for the sixth-longest period among current senators.
Sarah Palin has been governor of Alaska for just a bit over 18 months, and has managed to invoke a formal ethics investigation by the legislature and criminal investigation by the States Attorney General concerning her conduct during her very short tenure. The entire state of Alaska would only make it the 17th most populous city in the United States. Just ahead of Fort Worth.
Before that, she was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. Population 9,000. The "powers and duties" for the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska? Check their municipal code:
1. Preside at council meetings. The mayor may take part in the discussion of matters before the council, but may not vote, except that the mayor may vote in the case of a tie;
2. Act as ceremonial head of the city. - schnikies79, on 08/30/2008, -6/+26The media should be reporting the news, nothing more.
Not injecting their opinion, not telling us what and what not to believe and definitely not who to vote for. - MrWhite7, on 08/30/2008, -4/+22... I don't care for the man, but you're full of *****.
- MrWhite7, on 08/30/2008, -5/+22... Law reviews have relatively lofty grade standards, and at Harvard, just getting on is an enormous accomplishment.
- mchisari, on 08/30/2008, -18/+35And in the Illinois Senate for 8 years, and a constitutional law professor, and a community organizer on the south side of Chicago, and holds a doctorate in law from Harvard Law School, and was the first Black President of Harvard Law.
While Obama was doing all that, she had a bachelors in journalism from University of Idaho, and was a mayor and city council member of this place:
http://mudflats.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/wasill ... - ChuckDiesel, on 08/31/2008, -1/+16According to the Harvard Law School's website, http://www.law.harvard.edu/ocs/employers/HLS_Gradi ... gaining the magna cum laude distinction would've required graduating in the top 10% of his class.
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -3/+19Your racist ramblings would appear more relevant and reliable if you bothered to back them up with evidence, Quad.
By the way, "grade inflation" is the phenomenon in which a 3.8 suddenly becomes an "average" GPA because even higher achievers are pulling a 4.3 GPA. It has nothing to do with race. - SnapDragon86, on 08/30/2008, -18/+34Is Digg serious? Like every freaking story?
- FasterGun, on 08/30/2008, -11/+26I dont think Dallek is counting only years in public office as experience. Please remember that Obama, apart from being a community organizer (which I would never discount), taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago for twelve years.
I would personally, and I think many would agree with me, rather elect a professor of constitutional law than someone who spent that time in an increasingly corrupt congress. - blackinthmiddle, on 08/31/2008, -3/+16Wait a minute. You don't know what his grades are because he didn't release them, yet you know he doesn't have good grades? Again, another example of coming to conclusions without anything factual to actually back it up.
You don't become president of the Harvard Law review based on your father's connections! We KNOW (again, let's deal with facts) that he was president of the Harvard Law Review. We KNOW that McCain was right near the bottom of his class.
For whatever reason, there are some that are trying REAL HARD to continually make excuses for one who shows no signs of being intelligent. In fact, he often makes you wonder of senility is setting in. - TokenBlack, on 08/30/2008, -17/+30You wanted to get on the top of the page, so you irrelevantly replied to this post with your statement. THAT is really really sad.
- JoeMondo, on 08/30/2008, -18/+30Palin has real executive experience, as evidenced by the nearly $20 million in long-term debt she left the tiny town of Wasilla burdened with, and the probe into her role into the firing of Alaska's public safety officer.
No wonder she's a Republican. - deleo, on 08/30/2008, -2/+15Unfortunately he is pandering to his constituency with his choice. Actually it wasn't his choice, it was Karl Rove's. This has his hands all over it. She is a creationist, home schooler. These people vote like no one else.
- dreicher, on 08/30/2008, -3/+15Unless birth control (to you) is only defined as abortion, she does believe in birth control.
"Palin said last month that no woman should have to choose between her career, education and her child. She is pro-contraception and said she's a member of a pro-woman but anti-abortion group called Feminists for Life."

But, you keep believing what your masters tell you. Some of us will actually do some research on the candidates and pick one based on that. - fuzzmeister, on 08/30/2008, -20/+32In my view, this choice by McCain is irresponsible, plain and simple. Considering his advanced age, he needs someone with his level of experience to be able to take over for him at any moment. A "hockey mom" who was mayor of a tiny town then governor of a tiny state (population-wise) just isn't going to cut it. And that is not a sexist argument at all, I think a woman like Hillary Clinton would have been fantastic in that role.
- fuzzmeister, on 08/30/2008, -10/+21Tell me, how many Hillary supporters are pro-life, pro-creationism, and pro-drilling? About the only thing Palin shares with Hillary is her gender.
- smash20, on 08/30/2008, -2/+13You're taking that quote out of context, James Stockdale wasn't so bad.
In the words of Dennis Miller, "Now I know (Stockdale's name has) become a buzzword in this culture for doddering old man, but let's look at the record, folks. The guy was the first guy in and the last guy out of Vietnam, a war that many Americans, including our present President, did not want to dirty their hands with. The reason he had to turn his hearing aid on at that debate is because those ***** animals knocked his eardrums out when he wouldn't spill his guts. He teaches philosophy at Stanford University, he's a brilliant, sensitive, courageous man. And yet he committed the one unpardonable sin in our culture: he was bad on television."
And here's what he had to say on the matter himself, "It was terribly frustrating because I remember I started with, "Who am I? Why am I here?" and I never got back to that because there was never an opportunity for me to explain my life to people. It was so different from Quayle and Gore. The four years in solitary confinement in Vietnam, 7½ years in prisons, drop the first bomb that started the...American bombing raid in the North Vietnam. We blew the oil storage tanks of them off the map. And I never—I couldn't approach—I don't say it just to brag, but, I mean, my sensitivities are completely different." - LLLSecretChimp, on 08/30/2008, -3/+14Yeah, that's nothing like being vice president.
- davidg11, on 08/30/2008, -48/+59I've never seen diggers put up more smear messages in a day than today. That means democrats are beyond scared.
Why?
Sarah Palin IS middle america. Soccer mom from a small town who decided to run for Governor, win, reform govt, and now has 80% approval ratings from voters.
Who gets 80% approval ratings?
People who change the govt the way the voters want them to.
How shocking of an idea. - Needles13, on 08/30/2008, -12/+23It took scholars to figure this out?
- haydesigner, on 08/31/2008, -6/+17@Equinox2012: "and giving birth to more retarded Republicans"
Regardless of what you wrote before that statement, that is just pathetic and ignorant.

- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -5/+15"20 mil is nothing for a town of that size. I come from a town of 5000 and that amount of money is spent all the time on infrastructure and improvements. And she does nothing without a commissions approval and hence the approval of the people.
She also slashed her own salary and reduce property taxes by 60%. Ill take that any day"

Sarah Palin, a fine woman she may be ... but being a second rate beauty queen does not Presidential material make. - fuzzmeister, on 08/30/2008, -9/+19What executive experience does McCain have, exactly? Running a small training squadron in Florida in the seventies? And no, Alaska is not one of the most important states, no matter which way you cut it.
- Foot56, on 08/30/2008, -15/+25Just scholars? I think most of America does also.
- Evanmontegarde, on 08/31/2008, -2/+12Did you seriously just cite that website as a source?
They would have voted against Obama if McCain picked Joe Lieberman or Mike Huckabee or James Dobson as his running mate. - superkendall, on 08/30/2008, -4/+14"Whether this is a brilliant choice or a bad risk will depend on how Ms. Palin performs on the campaign trail. But if I were Joe Biden, I'd be worried. A former journalist, Sarah Palin is careful about what she says and says it well, qualities for which Mr. Biden is not renowned. Mr. Obama picked Mr. Biden in part because of his reputed skill as a hatchet man. But if Mr. Biden comes on too hard in the vice presidential debate, he'll look like a bully. And Alaska is littered with the bodies of those who tried to bully Sarah Palin and failed."
http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/ ... - rolf, on 08/30/2008, -17/+27They kinda ignore that Palin is a governor already and want to pretend she's still a mayor or something... (this experience issue is going to bite Obama in the ass if they keep it up for much longer).
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -3/+12Quad, you have yet failed, I suspect due to cowardice, to substantiate your claim that Obama is an "affirmative action candidate," despite being requested to do so on numerous occasions. I will ask you again to explain your racist comment and I expect an answer; even a coward like yourself should be able to back up his own beliefs, no matter how repugnant, outdated and un-American they might be.
