Savage Defends His Comments, Claims Media Matters Hates Kids
thinkprogress.org — Last week, Media Matters caught right-wing radio talker Michael Savage claiming that autism is a “fraud” and “a racket” Savage refuses to apologize. On Larry King Live last night, he told guest host Glenn Beck that he had simply been “taken out of context” by “men who specialize in hating families and children, namely Media Matters

- siszam, on 07/23/2008, -3/+5Clearly you haven't met many people with autism.
- jaredcat, on 07/23/2008, -6/+4Well thats the whole point.. there are medical tests available that clearly diagnose downs syndrome. autism requires a subjective diagnosis, with a scale of survey questions such as 'does the child like to line up objects?' or 'does the child make a habit of counting things?'
now there are very clear cases of autism, but the study that savage was refuting claimed that 1 out of 150 children in the US suffer from some form of autism, and that using these surveys, a diagnosis could be made as young as 2 years old. i think many people would agree with savage that this is abserd.
using that kind of broad spectrum diagnosis includes many succesful and capable people under the 'autism' umbrella. for example, einstein, bill gates, and savage himself would all have been diagnosed as mildly autistic today and put on medication. that is what savage is complaining about--- albeit he did so with a poor choice of words.

- stix213, on 07/23/2008, -9/+22As usual these are comments taken out of context. Even the clip from Glen's show in the link conveniently removed his rebuttal and explanation.
Savage has said Autism exists over and over and over and over. You morons who are condemning him obviously didn't hear the show, nor have you actually looked into the cause of the recent surge in Autism cases. I'm sure your level of research into the subject, nor your mental capacity to do so, doesn't go beyond reading left wing blogs.
The 99% of kids he was referring to was not kids with autism, but the kids misdiagnosed with autism due to the recent enlarging of the definition of autism to what they now call the "Autism Spectrum" where you don't actually have full blown Autism, but share some of the symptoms. The autism spectrum is analogous to saying someone who needs glasses is part of the blindness spectrum. Now with the new definition of Autism, the drug companies are having a field day, which was what they wanted when they had the definition changed.
http://www.tomholman.com/msdd.htm
Savage was saying that 99% of those kids WHO WERE MISDIAGNOSED with autism were just misbehaving, etc... not that 99% of kids diagnosed with autism were just misbehaving. The percentages of children misdiagnosed with autism vary from expert to expert. 40-60% of all child autism cases are misdiagnosed is the range I see most often. The medical doctor Savage had on his show discussing the topic put the figure at 58% based on his research. (and Savage was saying that 99% of that 58% were misbehaving, not 99% of all cases)
Savage has said over and over and over that Autism is absolutely real! But, the drug companies and doctors who peddle their drugs are in a rush to diagnose children with mild social abnormalities with autism... hence the drug company backed new definition of Autism as the Autism Spectrum, which by itself has lead to the dramatic increase in cases of Autism. Not to mention that 100% of the tests for Autism are completely subjective, since there are no biological markers for the disease.
Today, anyone who is even slightly anti-social (like most diggers) absolutely falls into the Autism Spectrum. Yes, you reading this article have Autism by the new medical definition, and if a doctor quizzed you, you would have some nice new drugs waiting for you at the pharmacy to change your behavior.
http://www.nichd.nih.gov/health/topics/asd.cfm
Current symptoms of the Autism Spectrum of disorders accepted by today's doctors are even mild problems in these areas:
* Communication - both verbal (spoken) and non-verbal (unspoken, such as pointing, eye contact, and smiling)
* Social - such as sharing emotions, understanding how others think and feel, and holding a conversation
* Routines or repetitive behaviors (also called stereotyped behaviors) - such as repeating words or actions, obsessively following routines or schedules, and playing in repetitive ways
Yes, if you don't like to talk to people as much as some of your friends... If you don't really like to share your emotions... If you do a few repetitive behaviors (like sitting in front of Digg everyday)..... If you keep playing that same copy of Star Craft you have had for 10 years..... Then YOU HAVE AUTISM BY DEFINITION! And getting a diagnosis of Autism opens the floodgates for both your ca$h and the health insurance company's.
Media Matters does this every single time, and you morons who are too lazy to get a copy of the actual text before and after their cherry picked clip just lap it up like the sheeple you are.
Wake up and do a little thinking for yourself for once!!!!- rexcom, on 07/23/2008, -11/+1I just want to chime in and say. . . poop.

Sheeple. - Tomchei, on 07/23/2008, -3/+8Pretty funny that the `article` is taken out of context as well.
I usually don't agree with Savage but his full educated opinion on the matter is right on.
Media Matters hates families. - haydesigner, on 07/23/2008, -8/+8Even if that was his original statement (haven't seen it, don't care), his responses alone have shown him to be an ignorant asswipe.
"Media Matters hates kids"? Seriously, that's his primary response/explanation?
Combined with all the other racist and homophobic ranting I have read from him before this, he deserves everything that is coming to him for this episode. - Thuktun, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4This is overly-simplistic. Having a symptom of a condition does not mean you *have* that condition, there are other tests necessary.
A cough is one symptom of a cold. It's also a symptom of many other things, so having a cough does not imply you have a cold. Either way, though, if the cough impairs your function, you may want to be treated.
Autism happens to share some symptoms with ADD or ADHD, that does not mean those symptoms imply autism. (It does, however, lead to misdiagnosis.) Either way, you (or your parents) may want treatment for it if it impairs your function. - etherreal, on 07/23/2008, -1/+7Stix, thank you for your post. It was dead on. I am no fan of Micheal Savage, I listen to him merely for the entertainment factor (same reason I listen to that douche Hannity). Savage was clearly taken out of context here. He had a very nice conversation as a result with a representative of an Autism activist group, he cleared the air, explained how he was taken out of context, and everyone was happy. I agree with Savage on this topic, our kids are overdiagnosed and overmedicated. He said himself, the misdiagnosed are taking resources away from the kids that really need the help. He repeated over and over that he has no problem with "real autistic" kids getting the treatment they need.
- chrislerch, on 07/23/2008, -6/+3"The autism spectrum is analogous to saying someone who needs glasses is part of the blindness spectrum."
And you still treat the problem, not slap the kid on the head and tell them to "just see better". That's why Savage is an idiot. - stix213, on 07/23/2008, -3/+4"And you still treat the problem, not slap the kid on the head and tell them to "just see better". That's why Savage is an idiot." - chrislerch
No *****, but treating your child's mild anti-social behavior with the drugs originally developed to control patients at mental hospitals (which is what they are doing) isn't the right answer.... which was Savage's entire point. - stix213, on 07/23/2008, -1/+5Hey Thuktun you are 100% repeating Savage's own point. Just because your kid may be a bit anti-social doesn't mean that your kid actually has Autism, but many are being misdiagnosed and proscribed extremely powerful and damaging drugs.
Thanks for making Savage's point more clear. - stix213, on 07/23/2008, -2/+5Heydesigner - you are the poster child of ignorance with your "haven't seen it, don't care" statement. If you don't care to even get the facts, why do you feel your opinion is important?
Plus, all the racist and homophobic rants you heard also came from Media Matters, which were taken out of context as well. I'm sure you "haven't seen it, don't care" to check if those were actually true or not either.
Next time your knowledge of a subject extends to "haven't seen it, don't care" please keep your ignorant opinion to yourself. - Monk22, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4@haydesigner: this was his response from the website the day after the show and the media blowup
The Autism Controversy
My comments about autism were meant to boldly awaken parents and children to the medical community's attempt to label too many children or adults as "autistic."
Just as some drug companies have overdiagnosed "ADD" and "ADHD" to peddle dangerous speed-like drugs to children as young as 4 years of age, this cartel of doctors and drug companies is now creating a national panic by overdiagnosing "autism, for which there is no definitive medical diagnosis!
Many children are being victimized by being diagnosed with an "illness" which may not exist, in all cases. Just a few weeks ago doctors recommended dangerous anti-cholesterol drugs for children as young as 2 years of age! Without any scientific studies on the possible dangers of such drugs on children, corrupt doctors made this controversial, unscientific recommendation.
Increasingly, our children are being used as profit centers by a greedy, corrupt medical/pharmaceutical establishment. As the brother of a severely disabled person who suffered and died in a New York "snake-pit" of a "mental hospital," I know first-hand what true disability is.
To permit greedy doctors to include children in medical categories which may not be appropriate is a crime against that child and their family. Let the truly autistic be treated. Let the falsely diagnosed be free.
Michael Savage - ManyAsOne, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3Has anyone considered the possibility that the same arguments you're making against overmedicating hypothetically misdiagnosed kids may be just as valid for autistic kids who were diagnosed accurately? Those psychotropic drugs aren't any less powerful or dangerous for an autistic child than they are for a non-autistic child, after all. There are better and safer ways of handling so-called 'problem behaviors' than heavy-duty neuroleptics- they just take actual effort.
- stix213, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2@ManyAsOne
Hey now, keep your old fashioned medicine to yourself and get with the 21st century. In today's world when you have any problem, you should be only a signed check away from a solution.
Are you actually suggesting taking some personal time away from your own wants and needs to help a.... child, when drugging the child into submission would both solve the behavior problem and utilize only minutes a day???
We cured ADHD without spending a minute more of our time than necessary, and I won't let another parent's afternoon be wasted when their health insurance already covers a quick fix!
- stix213, on 07/23/2008, -9/+22As usual these are comments taken out of context. Even the clip from Glen's show in the link conveniently removed his rebuttal and explanation.
- Detritus, on 07/23/2008, -21/+75I'm glad to hear this guy is getting canceled all over. Parents dealing with autism have so much to contend with, they don't deserve blowhards like this jackass blaming them for their kids' condition.
- dropnet, on 07/23/2008, -24/+8I think Savage is a tool. No question there. However, in this country we have a little thing called free speech. Sure, none of us here agree with what he has said, but---that doesn't give people to right to tear down his radio shows. Same with Imus. What he said was beyond inconsiderate, but again--- free speech people. Question: why can't we all just let people say whatever-- and let them look like idiots-- instead of running all over the place screaming "Oh, Oh my God, he said really, really mean things. What a meanie head. We should ruin his career and spread it all over the news."
Get over it people.
Next topic please, preferably one with substance.- diggduggDOOM, on 07/23/2008, -3/+29I have to admit I haven't looked too closely at this particular situation, but I don't think free speech is the issue here. Freedom of speech does not mean you are free from consequences. Is Savage being censored by the government? I think it's much more likely that people upset with his comments are contacting the radio station and its advertisers to complain. The radio station is free to discontinue the program, and the advertisers are free to pull their advertising money.
Get over it. - hauntedchippy, on 07/23/2008, -4/+19No one is argueing AGAINST free speech here. In fact I think everyone is much happier that this guy had the freedom to say what he did, now we all know what kind of person he is.
- Evilena, on 07/23/2008, -2/+12The 1st amendment only applies to the government. No one is telling him he can't turn his stupid little show into a podcast.
- kayala, on 07/23/2008, -1/+12There's a difference between freely speaking on your own time and your own dime and being paid to work for a broadcast network. For instance, we fire news anchors who get off-topic and start ranting about how much terrible stuff Bush has done in the middle of a report on the latest G8 summit. If you do not please your network, you get fired. If you do not please your audience and the complain to your network, you get fired. Freedom of speech doesn't carry total protection from the consequences of saying stupid *****.
- tdogg241, on 07/23/2008, -2/+15You're absolutely right, we do have freedom of speech, and blowhards like Savage and Imus are living proof of that. Neither are in a prison cell for what they said, right?
People like you misunderstand what "freedom of speech" means. Savage being cancelled has nothing to do with his right to say what he wants, he's just losing his platform to spread what he's saying. People in broadcasting should know by now that if you say some ignorant or unpopular *****, there's going to be consequences.
But not from the government. - greenm1981, on 07/23/2008, -2/+15Right, and clients have the right to yank their advertising dollars from supporting his show. Savage may say whatever he wants, but those offended have the right to demand that his show be cancelled.

- clak, on 07/23/2008, -3/+23@dropnet
Free speech doesn't mean you can't lose your job over saying stupid things. Go ahead and try it. Go to your boss right now and tell him you want to rape his wife and see how long you stay on the job. Free speech means you don't go to jail for what you say, but even then, it has limits. For example, you can go to jail just for threatening someone.
So, yeah, free speech is great, but don't exaggerate. Free speech has limits.- skyscape, on 07/23/2008, -4/+2Kind of like you cant say George Bush is a moron?

- Detritus, on 07/23/2008, -2/+6Wow...
- Verz, on 07/23/2008, -7/+12I have an autistic younger brother and I agree with Savage. If my brother wasn't constantly spoonfed and sheltered by my parents and was made to go out more and not spend 14 hours a day playing video games, he'd be in a much better social condition right now. My parents are both foreign and speak broken English, so that was over half of the English he has ever heard in his younger years, damaging his core lingual development and making it harder for him to communicate like most people do. That is hard to unlearn - imagine ridding yourself of your natural accent and relearning a language you thought you knew. But recently I've worked with him long and hard to try to help him. I believed that he could actually get better, unlike his counselors and therapists that immediately slapped on a disorder sticker on his forehead, hit him up on some mystery drugs and called it a day, almost destroying any hope for him and my family that he could function as a regular human being in society. And what a surprise! after a few weeks of work he's been making more progress than he has ever been, with me there to help him build his lingual skills up from scratch.
Anyway, my point is that autism is mostly an environmental thing, and it can almost always be avoided or hurdled over. We all have our little natural mutations that make it naturally harder for us to learn some things and easier to learn others (otherwise we'd all be brilliant actors and mathematicians), but we generally learn to cope with those mutations and teach ourselves (or get taught) to function on an at least satisfactory level in most aspects of our lives. If parents treat their kids like they're magically perfect in every way their entire lives, the imaginary castle that they've built for them will all come tumbling down on them once they figure out that they don't know how to function with other people. Give your kids a degree of discipline, or at least make them go OUT starting from a young age so they can make their own mistakes and relationships to develop their core, and they'll have enough cognitive ability later on to thank you. - skyscape, on 07/23/2008, -8/+13Parents who have kids with Autism were simply made to believe their kids have autism. Thats the difference. Do research on internet and find out what real autism is. We have bunch of foolish liberals on digg who think they are enlightened and know so much about Autism. Although I know very little about Michael Savage, I know his right.
I'm not foolish enough to give my kid to drug peddlers who want to destroy the brain of my child by injecting drugs into him which were used in the past on inraged inmates.- bjornski, on 07/23/2008, -2/+9My ex-wife's daughter is autistic. SAVAGE: No, no, no, no. Again, you took what they gave you but you didn’t take the entire preceding material. Preceding this, Glenn, was a discussion of the American Academy of Pediatrics, which has had the nerve to say that children as young as two years of age should be given anti-cholesterol drugs.
BECK: Right.
SAVAGE: There’s been not one study about the damage this would do or potentially do to two year-olds, and yet you have had doctors come out and say these drugs should be given to the children. This was in the broader context of the over-medicalization, the over- diagnose of disease, using our children as profit centers. I’ve spent all day saying what a shame it is that I, as man who has spent his entire life defending the defenseless, mainly children, should have to defend myself from charges leveled at me by men who specialize in hating families and children, namely Media Matters who probably come after you as well, by ripping me out of context and making me look like the monster that they are."- Swift2, on 07/23/2008, -12/+11In other words, change the subject when asked to defend something undeniably false and "savage" as well. - FearFactory, on 07/23/2008, -7/+27I don't like his attack on autism but this country is overloaded with medication. There is a pill you can pop for anything and everything. There are pills to alleviate side effects of other pills for Christ's sake.

- bacterio, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6Erm. Autism on the whole does not have a pharmacological treatment.
There are medications for other illnesses like schizophrenia or depression. I think the reason people are against medications for mental disorders is because of the stigma of mental illnesses. Often people do not view mental illnesses/disorders as biological problems that require biological treatments. With diabetes or epilepsy for example, chronic conditions as well there is no controversy.- Sugaruss, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3That is exactly the point of Savage's remark: there is no scientific definition or diagnosis for autism, leading to gross misdiagnosis across the country.

MICHAEL
SAVAGE - nedzeve, on 07/23/2008, -19/+14"Michael Savage should be taken out and shot." -- Nedzeve
"Wait, you took my comment about Michale Savage out of context!" -- Nedzeve - Nairebis, on 07/23/2008, -14/+42I hate to actually defend this fool, but while he phrased his point unbelievably poorly and inflammatorily (if that's a word), there is actually a kernel of truth buried in there. Autism *is* getting misdiagnosed on kids that are simply outside the norm and need more time to develop. Autism is very difficult to diagnose in very young children, and the signs are very subjective. There is no chemical test -- it's all behavioral.
So, yes, the messenger is an idiot, but don't reject the message. A kid getting misdiagnosed early as autistic can be devastating to their development. Same with the ADD insanity, where too many schools are diagnosing kids as ADD who simply don't fit in with the rote way school is taught.- knyghtryda, on 07/23/2008, -15/+10Well yes, there's always a kernel of truth in almost any message. The problem is that kernel is normally wrapped in spin, stupidity and lies, normally to the point were the original "truth" is completely lost. When you get guys like savage pulling numbers out of their ass in order to support a point, you know that kernel was long since crapped out.
- Ukonu, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1...
- Ladymongoose, on 07/23/2008, -2/+3Actually there are several biological issues that many autistics have in common: Candida (yeast overgrowth in the gut), certain bacteria found in autistic kids' GI tracts, serious digestive and reflux issues...it's not just a neurological issue. Nearly every autistic child I have know, met or talked to their parents have very similar digestive issues and food allergies.
Also, where are you getting those stats on kids who are supposedly misdiagnosed? I have never met any that were either in my son's school or at the many meetings and play groups we attend that are wrongly diagnosed. I'm really curious how you know for a fact that there is such rampant misdiagnosis?
- knyghtryda, on 07/23/2008, -15/+10Well yes, there's always a kernel of truth in almost any message. - nomojunkscience, on 07/23/2008, -12/+19I think he has a point with kids being diagnosed with disorders that really stem from poor parenting. - kayala, on 07/23/2008, -8/+3Are you familiar with autism? Autistic children can't just be slapped around a couple times and told to straighten up, and Savage's suggestion that children with this serious disability are faking it, or the product of bad parenting, is completely uncalled for and untrue. It's an insult to every family that's had a child with autism. Savage doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.
- SleepyMcShuteye, on 07/24/2008, -2/+0I agree, nomo. I think a lot of parents are too lazy to spend time and try to understand their children, and instead look for a quick fix through medication when the children misbehave. That, and many are grossly misinformed when it comes to children and behavior. Kids are kids, they're supposed to be hyper, energetic, act goofy sometimes, and get in trouble periodically, that's how they learn.

Beating the poor child senseless? No one is saying that, they are say a little consistent discipline would do a lot for today's kids. Just give 'em a pill. - kayala, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Christ, could it be that an improvement in diagnostic medicine helps us catch more cases of these disorders? The ***** rate of cancer diagnoses skyrockets every time a new type of cancer is discovered. Doesn't mean that those sufferers just need a good slapping around! Lumping in autism with ADD and ADHD is not a very good tactic. ADD and ADHD are indeed a lot harder to diagnose and are quite often taken as personality quirks, but you need only see one truly autistic child to know that it's not just a product of bad parenting, lack of discipline, what have you. Look it up and learn a little before you run your big mouth.

- mlrigsby, on 07/23/2008, -7/+21I love it when these guys just make things up.
“99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out.”
99 percent huh? Really? Why not just say "most", or "almost all"? Why try to make a "fact" you just pulled out of your ass sound scientific by attaching a random, made-up statistic?- rexcom, on 07/23/2008, -6/+1I think if you were trying to say that pretty much all people in a group are "something" but want to leave room for every rooms exception, 99% sounds like a good representation of what I'm thinking if I'm on a live broadcast and have to express myself quickly.
Just a thought. Man, you people go and start way over analyzing things. - Ukonu, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Do you think everyone who's ever said something along the lines of "I'll give 100%" was trying to sound scientific?
I dislike right-wing pundits as much as the next digger, but it wasn't as if he was pretending to quote this 99% statistic from a scientific study. He was making an impromptu statement during his informal radio show. He was making a valid point about over diagnosis and, stupidly, forgot not to stray into hyperbole on sensitive subjects in public forums. It was mainly a dumb statement when you consider how quickly the media can sound bite you and destroy the whole context of your message. And it was dumb, when you consider how many ignorant listeners he probably has that will literally believe every word of the statement and not take autism seriously. But lets please not pretend he was trying to pull one over on the general population by using a percentage.

- Hoogs, on 07/23/2008, -24/+12I love listening to Michael Savage. While I don't necessarily agree with everything he says, I do like his "tell it like it is" attitude. Definitely the most entertaining radio host out there.
- kayala, on 07/23/2008, -3/+4Except that he tells it like it isn't. 99 percent of autistic kids to NOT need nothing more than to be slapped around and told to straighten up. It's sickening for him to trivialize a disability that afflicts so many children.
- Munkoh, on 07/23/2008, -25/+18SAVAGE FOR PRESIDENT. You guys think this will hurt Savage? Hes been fighting you left wing nut jobs for ever especially now more than ever. I love how free speech runs one way, thats the left way. Don't even look at his ratings you'll beg for more liberal media air time then realize NO ONE LISTENS TO LIBERAL RADIO...
Someone called him a McCain supporter? Bless your little retarded liberal hearts and minds.- omegared, on 07/23/2008, -4/+7what the ***** are you talking about. The left let him say what he wanted, they disagreed with what he said and pointed it out. What is wrong with that, is that not allowed? or should the left wing be censored so you don't get upset?
Agreed savage for president, lets see how many votes the idiot gets.- Munkoh, on 07/23/2008, -6/+5If you read what people have said it would make sense. You know the stuff about canceling him and what not. But its OK. No one said anything about left wing censored, I censor them myself by not listening to the bull *****. Something you guys should think about.
- omegared, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3i didn't realize the left could get people canceled. or is that just public opinion? you make no sense you believe in free speech yet you do not want the left wing opinions to be listened to. is that free speech if only one opinion is heard.
sorry to tell you this, but maybe there are a significant amount of Americans that have "left wing" opinions. - Munkoh, on 07/23/2008, -3/+1Again you fail to understand the point. The point IS the left wants shows canceled all the time and they equal amount of air time to go along with that.
ALSO I never said anything about not letting people listen to the BS the leftist say. ALL I said is I don't listen to them. And neither does the majority of radio listeners. THATS THE FACT, ask Air America how they are doing these days. - edjenkins234, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3That could be because people on the left have realized what a dead format radio has become?
- omegared, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1"ALSO I never said anything about not letting people listen to the BS the leftist say. ALL I said is I don't listen to them."
how is that different? so people shouldn't listen to them? sounds like the right wing always talks about getting rid of hollywood, moveon, dailykos, and any other org they don't agree with. Hell i think bill o'reilly compared moveon to the nazia's. how is that any different? - Munkoh, on 07/23/2008, -1/+0If the radio is such a dead format how come the left begs for equal radio times for them? How come they constantly try to cancel shows? Thats OK I don't expect you to reply to this because you have already answered this question with such a moronic post as "That could be because people on the left have realized what a dead format radio has become?" Good game thanks for trying, maybe you need to research.
AND
""ALSO I never said anything about not letting people listen to the BS the leftist say. ALL I said is I don't listen to them."

No one that I know of ("right wing") talks about getting rid of anything. They may talk about how stupid they are and how hypocritical they are (see Jesse Jackson, on the "N word.)" Now back to the SUBJECT which you seem to have forgot. I DONT PAY ATTENTION TO LEFTIST. That has nothing to do with anyone else, what other people do or say only what I DO. Now maybe you will understand the main objective of this post.
For the record, I don't think people should listen to the left, its full of bull ***** lies. NOW you can attack me.

- Seann7656, on 07/23/2008, -10/+5Ah, the Jeremiah Wright defense...
- Onion575, on 07/23/2008, -11/+23Chill out guys. The guy has to talk for 3 hours every day into a microphone. People say things that they don't necessarily mean (like the 99% statistic), and I do agree with the point he was making, that doctors overdiagnose kids. Drugs = money.
- TurnipFarm, on 07/23/2008, -6/+1Why are you defending this guy?
- Onion575, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6Why are you offended by me defending this guy?
- DerpDerpMD, on 07/23/2008, -3/+0yea, but doctors don't see any of that money, so why would they misdiagnose?
- wishninja, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1doctors err on the side of caution because the early intervention very effective and can also help kids that just have a low IQ. If I was going to talk on the radio at least he should know what he is talking about or he should be prepared to be flammed.
- Ladymongoose, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2What drugs for autism? People seem to be equating Ritalin and other ADD drugs with autism. There is ONE approved drug for autism, folks. It's called Risperdal. It is used sparingly and is simply not over-prescribed for autism the way Ritalin is/was. Autism and ADD/ADHD are NOT AUTISM. Of the dozens of autistic kids I know, not a sinlge one is on this drug.
- TurnipFarm, on 07/23/2008, -6/+1Why are you defending this guy?
- Bluegrassen, on 07/23/2008, -15/+10USA the great nation of the offended. Come on people if you don’t like what Dr Savage has to say then don’t listen to him. I personally enjoy his in your face commentary.
- source1984, on 07/23/2008, -3/+6no no, you're not getting away with that. It's Dr. WEINER, not savage. Dr. Michael Weiner.
- hcl40u, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4Oh I see why he calls himself Savage instead of Weiner now. Weiner Nation just doesn't work too well for him.
- wishninja, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1he is a product of monopoly so there really isn't much freedom in local markets. He gets his support from the red south and we a forced to have him on three different channels whether anyone listens or not in this area. ***** FCC *****!
- source1984, on 07/23/2008, -3/+6no no, you're not getting away with that. It's Dr. WEINER, not savage. Dr. Michael Weiner.

- Swift2, on 07/23/2008, -5/+10It's appalling that this idiot ever got near a microphone. I'm not going to ask for his firing,, but I'd be a lot happier with the American people if they didn't listen to this poisonous a**hole. Hey, Savage fans: you're in love with a psychopathic nutjob, this Michael Weiner guy. If you like him, hey, I got some jackboots to sell you. I'm sure you'll like them.
- brickbat, on 07/23/2008, -7/+14Michael Weiner Savage is the best proof that you can be successful even with extensive brain damage.
- stinkymonkey, on 07/23/2008, -10/+12People,
It's obvious we're all just to stupid to understand clear direct statements.
For example, when I say "The ball is round", I hope none of you think that's what I really mean, because anyone with half a brain can clearly understand, I meant the ball is actually a chicken, and chickens are not round.- stix213, on 07/23/2008, -6/+4The clip was taken out of context moron. This is the equivalent of you describing a ball like object as "The ball is elongated and strangely has a square end to it, although at the center the ball is round" then cutting the clip at the end to what you stated "The ball is round."
And then the moron, who wouldn't be bothered to check up on what Media Matters cut the clip from, assumes that "The ball is round" is your entire description of the object. Just like you the moron and all the other morons here are doing to savage's quote. - stinkymonkey, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2stix213,
LOL.
Ok, in your infinite wisdom, please explain what Savage is talking about.
I bet you don't have an answer.
