- kigcoopa84, on 08/29/2008, -23/+82"As recently as last year, Palin (pronounced pale-in) was a political outcast. She resigned in January 2004 as head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission after complaining to the office of Governor Frank Murkowski and to state Attorney General Gregg Renkes about ethical violations by another commissioner, Randy Ruedrich, who was also Republican state chairman"
"Gov. Sarah Palin plans to explore ways Alaska can reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions as part of a global-warming strategy to be developed by a new subcabinet of top administration officials."

"From Palin's press release: Governor Sarah Palin today removed Jim Clark and Richard Schok from the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority Board and replaced them with her own appointments. Clark and Schok were appointed to the ANGDA board in the waning hours before Governor Frank Murkowski left office. Opting for Alaskans who will provide objectivity and new energy to the ANGDA board, Palin reappointed Fairbanks resident Andy Warwick to fill Clark's seat. Lorrie Hovanec of Anchorage will fill Schok's seat."

"Ms. Palin has shown similar boldness in going after Big Oil, whose money has long dominated the state and helped fund its Republican machine. In a snub to the oil majors, she has proposed TransCanada Corp., a Calgary energy company, be given the primary contract to lead the $30 billion job to build a natural-gas pipeline from Alaska's North Slope."

" * She has been an avid moose-hunter since childhood and is still a strong believer in gun ownership.
* A considerable amount of her family's income comes from the gas company BP as her husband is an oil production operator for BP..
* Palin said that she would sue the Interior Department over its decision to list the polar bear as a threatened species. Her litigation came from fear because Alaska produces fossil fuels, although the wording of the Interior Department decision went to great lengths to ward off any new restrictions on oil and gas drilling.
* Palin supports the aerial hunting of wolves and bears
* Palin spent $400,000 of state money to fund a media campaign to try and convince Alaskans to support aerial shooting
* Sarah Palin opposed a statewide ballot initiative to prohibit or restrict new mining operations that could affect salmon in the state's streams and rivers
* She pushed to build a natural-gas pipeline from Alaska's North Slope
* She is pushing to open Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling
* She has created a committee to forge Alaska's climate-change strategy, and has made Alaska an observer of the Western Climate Initiative
* She opposes a windfall profits tax on oil companies
* She has a chair on the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission - thejimmyo, on 08/29/2008, -26/+71The Department of Energy has recently said that ANWR drilling will only affect the price of gas by $0.02/gallon ($0.75/barrel) in the year 2025. Just saying.
http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/servicerpt/anwr/index. ... - alx1507, on 08/30/2008, -27/+58The thing I liked about the whole Ron Paul digg obsession was that it was being pushed by the USERS. Now, Digg's political agenda is being pushed by left-wing blogs that have absolutely no shred of unbiased content. I don't think i've seen an article about this women that was not totally ripping her apart, how about fair journalism on digg. I guess I'm going to have to start filtering out the politics section of digg. ( I'm a ron paul supporter, btw)
Hope i'm not alone on this : - Swarms, on 08/30/2008, -6/+35It may surprise you, but I could give a flying ***** how "green" somebody is. Being "green" is nothing but a marketing gimmick, and I'm pretty sure more than half the country agrees with me. (But don't quote me on that).
- Ymeg, on 08/30/2008, -6/+30When will people realize that the government should not be anyone's "champion"? Likewise, it should not be a bane on anything. It should, within reason, allow all people to freely pursue anything they like.
It should do it's job. It's job is to protect the rights of its citizens from anyone who would unjustly initiate force against them, not to give special status to companies or people.

Its kinda hard to criticize your opponents when they have a similar position to your own... - brycelb, on 08/30/2008, -14/+36Digg is getting real nervous. I don't think I have seen this kind of panic since I have been here, which is since Digg's inception. A minimum of 10 front page articles about how ***** up Palin is in the last 5 or 6 hours. You know you are doing something good when Digg starts whining about it.
- inactive, on 08/29/2008, -19/+41Republicans like big oil money? Well ***** me sideways
Sarcasm aside this should be a surprise to no one. - inactive, on 08/30/2008, -5/+24Ok, more liberal lies. Big oil hates her. She raised on taxes on oil company profits and wants to build a gas pipe line that the oil companies are against. They are against it because it lowers the price of gas. There goes your black and white world liberals! Do your homework before you run your mouth on how bad she is because she's republican and conservative. She seems to actually care about people unlike other politicians Republicans and Democrats.
- BaseballGuyCAA, on 08/30/2008, -18/+35Corporate pawn or not, I'll drill her protected regions any day of the week
- x1soundgarden1x, on 08/30/2008, -6/+22Let's see what her own state's politicians have to say shall we?
Alaska State Senate President Lyda Green (R): "She"s not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president? Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?" (Green is from Palin"s home town of Wasilla.)
Alaska State Representative Mike Doogan (D): "Either Sarah Palin has talents and skills we were not aware of", or "John McCain fell down and hit his head". He also called the prospect of Palin potentially needing to take over as the President's "pretty scary." - aerohead80, on 08/30/2008, -4/+20Awesome! More reasons to like her. Thanks.
- ulsterwrod, on 08/30/2008, -4/+20Her approval rating in Alaska is very high, perhaps the highest in the USA.
Certainly higher than Deval Patrick. - akchrs, on 08/30/2008, -7/+23Thanks for the positive comments!!!
- Swarms, on 08/30/2008, -22/+37Huffington Post and ThinkProgress must be working as fast as possible to make sure they get the Palin smear pieces out early. Do digg users not recognize how badly they're gaming the system, or do they just not care? Why not just visit those 2 sites if you want to keep confirming your own biases? At least the Ron Paul spam was pushed by the users of digg.
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -16/+31not placing polar bears on the endangered species list just to make drilling easier? disgusting
- EllipsisAeon, on 08/29/2008, -19/+33Actually, its pretty funny to see what people are saying about Sarah Palin; http://thenewscoverage.net/4720
Not exactly what was being said about Joe Biden being picked by Barack Obama. Unless McCain and Co. can pull off a stellar Republican convention, I think we can expect to see his numbers continue to slide; this was a bad choice, more evidence of bad judgment by John McCain. He should have picked Mike Huckabee. - Xihix, on 08/30/2008, -3/+17She's a MILF dude. And, I'm sorry, but you've got to be gay to think she's fugly, even at age 40.
- SDeluxe, on 08/30/2008, -4/+17I loved Mike's personality but just couldn't agree with his ideas :(
- Sfenton, on 08/30/2008, -2/+15These are supposed to be bad things right?
- akchrs, on 08/30/2008, -7/+20Every Democrat that has run for office here that I can remember is for drilling. Ethan Berkowitz, who is running against Stevens, is for drilling here.
- prrp, on 08/30/2008, -15/+27While I do love everyone's respect for nature (not sarcasm), I really have to say that I think drilling in ANWAR is a good thing. Technology has made it a very safe activity, more jobs would be created, and the laws of supply and demand DO work.
Please look into what ANWAR actually is, how little wildlife is actually there, and how safe drilling in 2008 has become.
While drilling will NOT solve our problem, it will help us to bring in a new age of energy using all of the resources available to us together: wind, solar, water, nuclear, AND fossil fuels. Failure to use fossil fuels at this very crucial time in our nations life could be very damaging to our economy.
My main point is: chill out about drilling! It's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It is also not our solution, but a pathway to the future.
By the way... she doesn't support windfall taxes - neither do I, especially with an 8% profit margin. This tax WILL increase prices and it IS an offense (in addition to many existing offenses) to a free market.
As a side note, I will not be voting for Obama OR McCain this season. - Ymeg, on 08/30/2008, -1/+13Digg whines about everything.
- dood, on 08/30/2008, -11/+23Articles are submitted to digg by digg users, and are dugg by other digg users.
If you're seeing more left-wing articles on digg than right-wing articles, it's because digg's membership is more left than right.
No site like digg will ever be a source of "fair journalism". - Swarms, on 08/30/2008, -5/+17Because you guys spend so much time on Digg you tend to think that Obama has a runaway election going, when really it's practically tied. As a republican, I can say that I am really happy he didn't choose Huckabee.
- nesagwa, on 08/30/2008, -4/+16Ah yes.
Vote for them because theyre women, not because you give a ***** about what they do or say.
Womens Rights doesnt equal handing them ***** free because theyre Women. - Xihix, on 08/30/2008, -22/+34Who cares. Biden is just as bad, if not worst. On the plus side, she's hot. Irrelevant, but it's nice to note.
- lonesomewolf, on 08/30/2008, -1/+12Almost every resident of Alaska gets a $1654 oil dividend check each year. Naturally the more kids you have the more oil dividends checks arrive in the mail!
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hv1EV4Fh0wr-YVu ...
Some might call this a "windfall profit tax." Very interesting Alaska. I don't see any proposal for the rest of us in the lower 48 collecting oil dividend checks... - rolf, on 08/30/2008, -6/+17Wait, you are matching Biden's experience to Palin's while ignoring McCain's equal experience.
And yet ignore that Obama, who wants the top job is equally inexperienced to Palin? Perhaps less so, she held an executive job unlike the other three? - FlaG8r, on 08/30/2008, -6/+17I'm not sure she would notice after 5 kids.
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -2/+13Is she wearing that moose she killed at 3 am?
- naner, on 08/30/2008, -5/+15You've used that exact same post on at least seven stories now. Good for you, you got a lot of diggs on some of them. But for *****'s sake, give it a rest, mmkay?

- vexingmodstwo, on 08/30/2008, -4/+14Jake, you're gay.
- alx1507, on 08/30/2008, -2/+12I think you're missing my point. I understand that it is the users that are the ones voting the articles to the front page. However, the Ron Paul manifesto was based on actual grass-root supporters working together to get their voices heard. Now, these heavily party affiliated blogs are pushing there content to digg. Please don't tell me you think that these websites just create the content and the digg users do the rest. These websites go out of there way and to get this content seen on social bookmarking websites like digg.
- connieLingus, on 08/30/2008, -18/+28oh here goes the never-ending digg-beat down of this lady already...
it will be a fight to the finish as to how many anti-palin stories vs. anti-mccain will hit our humble frontpage...maybe someone should start a site to keep score. - DifferentAngle, on 08/30/2008, -1/+11What's the world without hypocrisy? Diggers flame about Fox News in one post, then digg every Huffington Post article that they see.
- MrZeek, on 08/30/2008, -0/+10As an Alaskan who is aware of the recent vote on aerial hunting of wolves, the issue she supported was shooting wolves from planes only by FISH AND GAME for GAME MANAGEMENT purposes. Because a large population of Alaska lives off of moose, keeping the wolf population down is vitally important. In fact the entire parent of this comment is a bunch of slanted B.S.
No one in Alaska including Palin thinks its fair to shoot wolves or any other game from a plane for sport.
Also she doesn't want to kill polar bears. What a load of greenie crap.
She has a reputation for STANDING UP TO BIG OIL, and fighting even REPUBLICAN corrupt people aligned with Big Oil. - elipabst, on 08/30/2008, -1/+11She's already stated that there is plenty more drilling to be done.
- bentman78, on 08/30/2008, -15/+25didn't take long for the leftist to try to create a ***** storm did it? They now realize there is good opposition to the Audacity of Hype and they don't like it.
- jagged, on 08/30/2008, -20/+29Wow you guys are unbelievable.
Bury me. - bigjimslade, on 08/30/2008, -9/+18Stop the whole "truth" thing. It's not appreciated here amongst the pinheads.
- EllipsisAeon, on 08/30/2008, -0/+9agreed. I found him to be very good in debates, and incredibly personable. I just cannot handle the theology 1st concept.
- x1soundgarden1x, on 08/30/2008, -6/+14Oh please spare me. Equal rights don't mean being used as token window-dressing for a white male politician's political objectives. Hillary Clinton, even though she was not my choice, was undoubtedly qualified and had the leadership ability to be President. This Palins woman is such blatant playing of the gender card and is a completely transparent attempt to manipulate Hillary supporters into voting for a ticket completely against everything Hillary believes in.
Are you a paid Republican troller? - bumb1ebee, on 08/30/2008, -17/+25You guys don't get it, do you? Palin wasn't picked to appease the far Left, she was picked to appeal to Middle America, and most of them favor drilling in ANWR.
- kropyl, on 08/30/2008, -3/+11As a lifelong Arizonan who just moved to Alaska 2 years ago, I feel like it is my destiny to vote for McCain/Palin. That's not going to happen... I guarantee you that. However, I just wanted to state that a there is some some crucial information left out in some of these points.
"Palin supports the aerial hunting of wolves and bears" - This is not recreational hunting, the support is to allow for hunting in the instance that the population needs to be controlled when the animals become overpopulated - not for sport.
"Sarah Palin opposed a statewide ballot initiative to prohibit or restrict new mining operations that could affect salmon in the state's streams and rivers" - Mining is one of the large industries in Alaska, a proposition like this would hurt many future jobs and possibly even some current jobs. Another issue is that the initiative hadn't even been completely written by the time the vote was taking place - alot of people were afraid of what could be written in after the vote went through.
I just wanted to give a slightly opposing viewpoint... even though I still am not going to vote for her/Mccain. I just try to be objective. - rolf, on 08/30/2008, -3/+11I'm a RP supporter too (still am).
I stopped reading the political section as soon as Daily Kos stories started filling up the place. It's okay, but has no regard as to the truth - just *****. And as Harry Frankfurter defines ***** - they don't care if it's true or not, just as long as it serves their purpose.
I like Palin and knew of her for a longer time - but a lot of charges now are downright outlandish. -
