- borez, on 11/06/2009, -1/+54Damn right the population is behind you mate, and not because it's a drug issue either. I think the major issues at the moment is that we have an unelected leader supposedly running our country who is so pig headed that he and his party fail on every count to listen to the people of this Island, including those hired to give advice on subjects the government no nothing about and are supposed to factor in when changing policy whether they like it or not.
Everything with this government over the last five years has been take take take, with absolutely nothing in return. The labour party has left this place a total mess.
And FTR if the UK people think that voting in that fool Cameron will change a thing, then think again. - WordsnCollision, on 11/05/2009, -5/+54Nutt Sack Outrages Public!
- ts2007, on 11/05/2009, -0/+38I agree with the marijuana part. "Among the scientific community there is support for Professor Nutt's conclusions that alcohol and tobacco are more damaging than cannabis or LSD."
- jasonrh, on 11/06/2009, -0/+22I wish Prof Nutt would come to the USA and be our drug czar. Kerlikowske sucks.
- anonymous1986, on 11/06/2009, -0/+22The Tories too supported the sacking.... Only the Lib Dems were against it.
- breadfred, on 11/07/2009, -0/+17That would be correct, if it were not for the tiny fact that this happened in Britain.
- rocknog, on 11/07/2009, -1/+17This is conservatism through and through. Don't delude yourself. Conservatism is all about upholding "traditional values," and anything that is a threat to those values, like contesting decades of government propaganda that marijuana is bad, is a threat to conservatism. This is very much a conservative move, and it saddens me that so many people fail to understand that.
- catalysis, on 11/07/2009, -0/+13LSD has physical effects, but it's not dangerous. It's interesting that most of the public has accepted that marijuana is not dangerous, but some people still "feel" like some other harmless drugs are bad. I guess it's hard to unlearn what you are taught at an early age.
Albert Hoffman, the inventor of LSD lived to be 102 and he tripped many times. He also had a highly distinguished academic career. Drugs are not the boogie man they are made out to be. - Aliwalla, on 11/06/2009, -0/+12Hopefully he can become a public figure for legalization now.
- Eikon89, on 11/05/2009, -4/+16Poor David. Now that he's been sacked, he has nutting to do!
- Frixionburne, on 11/06/2009, -2/+13I think a better way to put it would have pure, professionally synthesized LSD. There are no physical effects of LSD, just psychological. The rule of thumb is generally that if after taking LSD you're still absolutely insane, it was probably a pre-existing issue that the drugs brought to surface. Alcohol, on the other hand, causes cirrhosis and domestic abuse.
- govsucks, on 11/07/2009, -0/+9This is what happens when you speak out against the mob in charge. Tow the line or lose your job.
- filltev, on 11/05/2009, -5/+13they are nutts to sack him
- noizeuk, on 11/07/2009, -0/+7Nah
- yocouchdigga, on 11/06/2009, -3/+10My, Nutt's pretty sensitive.
- KarmaPoIice, on 11/07/2009, -1/+6Yes we are David!
- DesertTripper, on 11/07/2009, -2/+7Simple. To spread as much propaganda as possible, creating exaggerations and outright lies in the process, to keep lesser-informed people paranoid about the "drug(s) scourge," convince them to vote for politicians who promise to make penalties against drugs ever tougher, and cheer at every big pot or coke bust on TV.
Obviously, as Mr. Nutt, found out, telling the truth is not part of the job description. - JohnnySoftware, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4What exactly are the duties of a 'drug czar'?
- ultraJesus, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3Quiet you.
- noizeuk, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3I agree, the country is run by people who look at Govt Polls... of which I can think of no normal person having taken one, or anyone outside London for that matter. They also choose their advisor's, spend countless amounts of money and time on committees to save badgers and in the light of balance everything needs to go through twentythirteen processes of pointless rigmarole bureaucracy whilst wearing a high vis.
This bloke pretty much says things how it is and if he says Ecstasy is less leathal than horse riding, then id have to agree with him. I can only assume that many many cases of injury of horse riding is falling off - and quite often. And the amount of people suffering from the side effects of ecstacy are what? death? happy? sleeping? hardly anything because the stats are most likely less than that of horse riding. - prakash1234, on 11/07/2009, -3/+6Its exactly whats happening with global warming/climate change debate
Only scientists who cater to the 'political agenda' are funded and others marginalized
when did politicans get wise...they are the biggest scumbags - Aliwalla, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2The Labour party is a socialist party.
- Junkyarddawg, on 11/07/2009, -1/+3He's absolutely right that the population is with him. The UK level of drug use is astounding; *everyone*, from the yob in the gutter to the royal family, smokes pot, and nearly everyone - perfectly ordinary people - have at least tried heavy drugs like ecstacy and acid. Frankly I've never seen anything like it on my travels anywhere in the world.
I know people from Amsterdam who were shocked at the level of drug use in the UK, they claimed pot was more commonly used and more easily available in the UK than in Holland. - Heiminator, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2"Drugs are not the boogie man they are made out to be"
i agree with the rest of your post, but we shouldn't generalize all drugs with such statements, crack and heroin are indeed as dangerous as most people think
and @ general topic:i hate it when nations only distinguish between alcohol on the one side and and all other drugs on the other side
there is a government post in my country (germany) thats called federal agency for alcohol and drugs ,implying that alcohol is somehow different/not a "real" drug - DesertTripper, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2Walters and McCaffrey sucked worse. Even now, every time I hear McCaffrey's whistly drone on whatever channel he's a war correspondent on, I wanna hurl.
Or smoke dope.
Or both.
And, I hope Walters stays under whatever rock he scurried under after the Bush administration left the WH. - Aliwalla, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2The Labour party is a socialist party. Do some reading on the topic. They are blatantly trying to silence this man because it interferes with their power over the United Kingdom.
- Gsydigger, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1how is it making the US look sane when our now former Drugs advisor is putting it out to the Government that scientific tests show that some classed drugs are actually less harmful than legally available drugs which don't need prescriptions.
- Stavrosian, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Unless you live in Sedgefield, you can consider the last leader "unelected" too.
- kd1s, on 11/07/2009, -1/+2Here's a useful graph of effective dose to lethal dose. Notice where marijuan, LSD and psilocybin rank on the chart, you'd nearly 1,000 times effective dose in order to OD on the stuff.

Whereas alcohol and dextromethorphan require about 10.
Gives lie to the classification of pot as illegal due to overdose hazard. And as far as MDMA, the Ecstasy you get on the street is laced with a ton of other nasties. MDMA by itself is a 16, less than alcohol. - card51short, on 11/07/2009, -1/+2actually i lived in London for 2 years and there was much less drug use in my experience than there is in the States.
- TheNik, on 11/07/2009, -2/+3"Physical reactions to LSD are highly variable and nonspecific. The following symptoms have been reported: uterine contractions, hypothermia, fever, elevated levels of blood sugar, goose bumps, increase in heart rate, jaw clenching, perspiration, pupil-dilation, saliva production, mucus production, sleeplessness, hyperreflexia, and tremors. Some users report a strong metallic taste for the duration of the effects. LSD users have reported numbness, weakness and nausea.[22]"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LSD#Physical - BullBearMS, on 11/07/2009, -1/+2If you continually lie to young people and claim pot is highly dangerous, do you expect them to pay attention when you warn them about drugs that DO have serious dangers?
Unlike common alcohol, pot has no potential for a fatal overdose. - waydee, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1How so?
- Locastus, on 11/23/2009, -0/+1Okay, but you cant deny that his government has acted undemocratically for the last fifteen years.
Every major decision has been made without any public consultation, or even worse, making the issue public only after the decision has been made.
And they wonder why people dont bother voting... - KyotoWolf, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1I agree with all your post but I'll repost something I wrote a while back about Brown apparently not being elected.
----
Gordon Brown is an elected leader for the simple reason that in the UK we don't vote for the Prime Minister but the candidate in your specific constituency. For a party to replace a PM all it needs is a majority in Commons - it is in no way a requirement for a general election to be held in order to 'elect' a new Prime Minister.
We had 'unelected' leaders in 1916, 1940, 1957, 1963, 1976 and 1990. Stop using the 'unelected' excuse to bash Gordon Brown because it doesn't hold up against any kind of scrutiny, there's a lot of things to attack him for but this just diminishes the argument. - tk0680, on 11/07/2009, -1/+2I wish I could properly express how funny I found your comment, Aliwalla.
"IT'S BAD IT MUST BE SOCIALISM WOOOOOO FILTHY COMMIES PEOPLE WHO ARE BAD ARE COMMIES" - kitkat102, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1LOL You must have been in some pretty seedy places to have seen that much drug usage.
On the other hand, with a bent pathetic government like ours, what do you expect people to do? Forget an uprising because the army and police wouldn't support the population. Under a thin veneer of democracy, the Brits live under probably the most oppressive regime in the western world. Camera's on virtually every street corner, thousands of new laws every year turhing everybody into a criminal overnight, massive databases containing details of every tiny thing we get up to. The French wouldn't stand for it but for some reason we do nothing but moan on forums....um... - disappointed, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1His job was to advise the government on the scientific side of the drugs debate. Then he went public and contradicted his boss's policy. Of course he got sacked. The classy thing to do would have been to resign first, then speak out. If you're going to publicly embarrass your boss, don't expect to keep your job. Not that it was a paying job.
- ldsan, on 11/06/2009, -2/+2i agree too, but they had to sack nutt for the sake of nutt sacking jokes
- Speedy7, on 11/06/2009, -1/+1Nutt sack exposé!
Read inside! - induren, on 11/07/2009, -2/+2The sacking of that Nutt is just wrong! No to Nutt sacking!
- noizeuk, on 11/07/2009, -1/+1Sounds like one of The Sun's headlines....
- Coinspinner, on 11/07/2009, -4/+3Oh UK, you're making the USA look sane on drug policy.
And Brother, that is one hell of a statement. - Fleagleman, on 11/07/2009, -4/+2Ok. I get it. I really do. His name is Nutt. He was fired...no, he was SACKED. Nutt. Sacked.
Let's all be on the lookout for other prominent folks who have funny male or female genitalia-based names.
Perhaps there's, say, a Mr. Schlong, who...oh I dunno, got 'yanked'...
Or maybe a Mrs. Vagina, who was identified as an informant (i.e., she was 'fingered'). - KevinRowz, on 11/07/2009, -5/+0The sacked thing is not funny anymore. This guy is like the nutt of every joke.
- marx2k, on 11/07/2009, -8/+2My guess would be an advisor to the President on America's drug policy.
- noizeuk, on 11/07/2009, -8/+1Oh well we all know the Lib Dems just do the complete opposite of every other party just because they're the Lib Dems.
- mwrl, on 11/06/2009, -23/+1I think the general population did a little /facepalm when they heard what this nuttjob said.
- Aliwalla, on 11/06/2009, -24/+2Truth and socialism don't go together.
