1) You have Windows, so WMV (Windows Media) works appropriately for you.
2) You have OS X, so MOV (Quicktime format) works appropriately for you. These two groups cover the vast majority of people.
3) You have Linux, so you are a techie and have VLC, and most likely some other players too, and you have the knowledge to install any codec you want, so either works for you.
