- Lightstab, on 05/07/2009, -11/+199Hmmm.
Who should I listen to, my fellow Republicans? Colin Powell, the former four star Army general, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, who did two tours in Vietnam or the draft dodging, drug addicted college drop out known as Rush Limbaugh?
Decisions. Decisions. - paganarmand, on 05/07/2009, -10/+181Democrats to Colin Powell: Come be a Democrat! ^-^
- theDunedan, on 05/07/2009, -11/+148"Go be a Democrat"
That's what the Republican leadership has been saying to millions of Americans. Many have been taking his advice.
Also, Limbaugh has the right to say what ever he wants to say. And Powell has the right to ignore him. - ThsGuyRightHere, on 05/07/2009, -17/+112Correction: You couldn't get any more to the center than McCain from 2000. McCain from 2008 on the other hand was pandering to the nutjobs but still hoping to ride on his previous accomplishments as a moderate.
The worst thing the GOP could do is read McCain's loss as proof that a centrist candidate can't win. McCain just wasn't the right guy at the right time. - MikeOxbigg, on 05/07/2009, -20/+109"You're gonna be objective and critical? Go be a democrat!"
Democrats everywhere to Rush L. : " omg LOL Thanks!"
Stop screwing my party, you bloated douche. - treeefan, on 05/07/2009, -24/+104LOL... that must be the pills talking.
- sheasie, on 05/07/2009, -27/+104Can you believe Rush signed a USD400 Million deal with Clear Channel?? Who buys this crap? It's just repulsive - like a child molester on cocaine.
- Lightstab, on 05/07/2009, -8/+83I'm actually starting to feel sorry for faithful Republicans. Since Rush Limbaugh took over the party, they've had to find justifications for supporting torture, defending tax shelter loop holes that allow corporations to evade taxes, denying health benefits to Americans and now, bashing one of their most celebrated members, a four star general who was Secretary of State, Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff, National Security Advisor, among many other things.
Man, if you support the Republican party these days, how the heck do you come out the other side without looking like an enormous *****? - Nathan45, on 05/07/2009, -5/+77"Colin Powell: go be a democrat"
First time I've agreed with Rush Limbaugh. - Lightstab, on 05/07/2009, -14/+82McCain was in the center? WTF? Are we talking about the same guy who had Sarah Palin, a right wing religious extremist, as his running mate? Powell said over and over that he was disturbed by the nuts that Palin was attracting to the party.
- Lightstab, on 05/07/2009, -7/+70Isn't it more like:
1. The Naval Academy guy who graduated at the bottom of his class and who crashed five planes (when one plane crash would have ended another flyer's career) while in the Navy and got away with it because his father was an Admiral; who left his crippled first wife for the rich delicious blonde?
or
2. The black guy whose mother was on food stamps, but still managed to get himself in Columbia and Harvard Law completely on his own merits, who then went on to become the first black president of Harvard Law Review, a position shared by Supreme Court Justices. He also was a constitutiional law professor, civil rights attorney and Illinois State Senator and yes, a junior United States Senator.
I think I'll go for the guy that didn't cheat on his wife. - kismetropolis, on 05/07/2009, -4/+51I think you're insulting the coke-head child molesters.
- Lightstab, on 05/07/2009, -2/+45@tomasll
LOL, there goes the Republican talking points, right on cue. My original point was about Rush Limbaugh, who has done nothing for America, but you guys want to talk about McCain? Okay.
The stuff I've said about McCain is fact, that is, he got into the Naval Academy when he didn't have the necessary grades because his father was an Admiral; he crashed five planes and wasn't punished; he cheated on his crippled wife. All facts.
The stuff you said about Obama is a manner of opinion. That anti-American preacher, Reverand Wright, served as a Marine and was a member of Lyndon Johnson's medical team. His sermons, which I've watched in full, were taken out of context, but I'm sure you'll stick to your original interpretation.
Bill Ayers was a respected college professor when Obama met him, working for education initiatives and several charities.
McCain, on the other hand, is a noted friend of traitors and felons like G. Gordon Liddy, the guy who masterminded the Watergate break-in and as recently as 1994 advocated the executions of ATF agents.
So, as you can see, none of these politicians are free from tainted associates, but I still fail to see how this makes Rush Limbaugh better than someone distinguished as Colin Powell. - sandersdamnit, on 05/07/2009, -8/+49@ rbiii Well friend, that's probably because you ate lead paint chips when you were a child. That, or you just come from a long line of stupid people.
- Lightstab, on 05/07/2009, -4/+43LOL, I demolished your argument and now you're jumping back in time to John F. Kennedy? What the ***** is wrong with you? This discussion started with Rush Limbaugh, a guy with absolutely NO credentials, who hasn't done one viable thing for this country besides running his big mouth and breaking drug laws.
This is the guy you're defending? - ChristmasPoo, on 05/07/2009, -5/+43Message to progressives... Shh! Rush is helping not hurting. His hatred and ignorance is driving moderates away from the GOP. Let him continue to run his trap and lead his mindless sheep into irrelevance.
- fasda, on 05/07/2009, -1/+35well before you make the decision you should get information and his point was which source should you trust.
- ClosedCaption, on 05/07/2009, -9/+43Colin Powell has been a Republicans for the longest time and even made the case for war with DRAWINGS for Republicans...Cool!
Powell votes for Obama....***** HIM THROW HIM OUT! I like this moderate Republican party, please continue to oust anyone who doesnt vote, think and act in goose..err lock step - sleepysteve, on 05/07/2009, -1/+33"My cousin went to high school with Obama. When told that he was running for President, his response was "That guy?"
I don't know about you, but if I'm told 20 years from now that someone I knew in high school is running for president, my reaction would be the same. To be honest, it would probably be more like "Are you ***** me?" - MrColdheart, on 05/07/2009, -13/+43All this BS about Powell making decisions based on race is kinda dumb when you remember that he was a member of Bush's administration.
Your an idiot. - hawkspur, on 05/07/2009, -2/+29JFK isn't a hero for getting his boat sunk. He's a hero because he swam his wounded crewmates to safety despite being injured himself.
And Obama was the first black editor of the Harvard Law Review and graduated Magna Cum Laude. All of that is from affirmative action, right?
Obama isn't a perfect president, but attacking the intellect he obviously possesses is just willful ignorance of facts. - Dugo, on 05/07/2009, -4/+31Yep you're both right. But ever since Rush first showed up on the air he's performed one vital function: he's the living embodiment of everything that's wrong with the USA in one fat, obnoxious package. On the bad side, he's also taught Conservatives they can lie their sorry little asses off and get away with it. That may finally be changing, though.
- daimposter, on 05/07/2009, -2/+28i have a friend who goes to UIC where Bill Ayers teaches. In fact, he took one of his classes. He said he had no idea about his past because all he does is teach now and not preach about his actions in the 60's.
Obama does not have 'connections' to Ayers. Their work requires them to interact and work together on projects. Should Obama just not have supported anything that Ayers is involved with even if it's for the betterment of the students and community? - weeFred, on 05/07/2009, -6/+32How long before the GOP splits in 2? The redneck, evangelical, neocon, nazi party led by Rush. And the rest, led by whoever steps up.
- EricSchC1, on 05/07/2009, -0/+25What happens when irrefutable facts contradict one's "vision"?
I'm not condoning anything along the lines of "policing thought", but if your view on things defy logic and objectivity, you can have your precious little vision, but keep it to your ***** self, while the rest of us actually fix *****. - OffensivePrick, on 05/08/2009, -0/+25If you read through the real history of the lead up to Iraq war, it becomes pretty obvious Powell was outmaneuvered by a superior bureaucrat in Rumsfeld, and generally ignored, abused, used, and then discarded by the Bush administration as a whole. There could be valid arguments made that Powell wasn't vigilant enough in certain situations, such as the UN speech, or in general, but I've yet to read a specific, factual account that at all suggests he knowingly lied in that speech.
- Lightstab, on 05/07/2009, -4/+29@daimposter
Everything you just said about Powell is also true for Scott McClennan, who also voted for Obama. He was a spokesman for the same conservative administration and he jumped ship for Obama. Did he do it simply because of race?
Powell's primary problem was with Palin, not McCain, which is why he said:
"Now that we have had a chance to watch her for some seven weeks, I don't believe she's ready to be president of the United States, which is the job of the vice president. And so that raised some question in my mind as to the judgment that Senator McCain made." - HaroldHupmobile, on 05/07/2009, -6/+30No, it's the money talking. The more outrageous he is, the more the money rolls in. If it didn't pay, he'd take a different tack.
- Maddoktor2, on 05/07/2009, -4/+27I'm really starting to wonder if Limbaugh is accepting payola from the Democrat party...
- EricSchC1, on 05/07/2009, -3/+25"My cousin went to high school with Obama. When told that he was running for President, his response was "That guy?""
Yeah, I'm sure that REALLY happened. - Nathan45, on 05/07/2009, -3/+25Y-o-u-'-r-e.
- OPR8R, on 05/07/2009, -13/+34The best thing people could do is to stop listening to this guy. He says something lame, people talk about it, then they tune in to see what lame stuff he says next. Break the cycle.
- BLyday, on 05/07/2009, -11/+31Rush Limbaugh is fat. Haha.
- MacParrot, on 05/07/2009, -3/+22How about everyone stop voting along party lines and make up your own minds? So tired of this stupid garbage from both sides.
- whatthefu, on 05/07/2009, -6/+25GOP: stop running out moderates. It is an idiotic strategy. If you can't accept criticism of yourself or your party, then you won't be able to adapt and will eventually be marginalized.
- taokr, on 05/07/2009, -1/+19That would be genius--that he's been a Democrat sleeper agent this whole time! I sometimes wonder why they don't really try something like that...though Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, et. al are so over the top sometimes that I wonder about them...
- pacerx, on 05/07/2009, -4/+20Despite his involvement in getting the country into Iraq, Powell still remains a popular public figure. I can't see how shunning him could POSSIBLY harm the republican party? :p
- razor150, on 05/07/2009, -1/+17Who's the more reliable source, jackass. Rush or Powell? If you choose Rush you are a moron.
- FredFredrickson, on 05/07/2009, -2/+18Every time you start to feel sorry for them, remind yourself about all the ***** they put us through for the last 8 years. And then ask yourself why they have to justify that stuff, when instead, they should be denouncing the ***** who are promoting it.
Makes them seem rather spineless, if you ask me. They can't even stand up to a few blowhards who have hijacked their party. - seltaeb4, on 05/07/2009, -5/+21Say what you will about Rush Limbaugh, but he has great enunciation. How he manages to speak so clearly with a horse ***** in his mouth, the world may never know.
- rehwaldt, on 05/07/2009, -5/+20WOW!!!!! The next thing you know Limbaugh will be saying that Michael Steele is the RNC chairman just because of his race.
- devophl, on 05/07/2009, -3/+18I suspect the GOP will split into 3:
1) the religious conservatives... like all those born-again, ultra-religious people who don't believe in anything not printed in the Bible.
2) the economic conservatives... like all those uber-rich folks on Wall Street who believe in supply side economics.
3) the patriotic conservatives... like most neo-cons who believe in US superiority in the world.
If you look at the last election, Huckabee represented #1, Romney #2 and Guiliani #3. The #2s and #3s who tend to be more secular couldn't stand Huckabee. The #1s and #3s didn't like how Romney made fortunes buying companies and selling them for spare parts putting millions out of work. The #1s and #2 didn't like Guiliani because he wasn't a true conservative but represented our presence in an unpopular war. The GOP settled on their 4th choice, who was left for dead 9 months before the election, because he was the only one all three could stomach and his hard core stand on the War on Terror and Iraq was the only thing still uniting the Republicans.
Now that Iraq and the War on Terror are no longer front page news, the Republican Party is dissolving in front of us. The party now seems to stand for:
1) a foreign policy that is "bomb baby bomb" ... the idea we'll use our military to subject other countries to the will of the US.
2) a domestic policy that neuters government, ignores oversight, rewards greed and extends the gap between rich and poor
3) a moral policy that intends to insert the Bible into US law.
Clearly the public has finally caught on that the emperor has no clothes, seeing through this right wing extremism. People are leaving the GOP in droves and the leaders of the party are now threatening party faithful to keep them in line. In essence, a single vote against the Republicans and they're showing you the door to the Democratic Party. How long before this all collapses in on itself?? - EricSchC1, on 05/07/2009, -4/+18You forgot stupid, intellectually lazy, a drug addict, a little-boy *****, and a neo-con hack.
- superterrorizer, on 05/07/2009, -5/+19Yeah, we'll take him. Colin Powell is a good man. The same can't really be said for that hatemonger Rush.
- catalysis, on 05/07/2009, -2/+15When has the GOP ever been "fiscally conservative"? It's a myth that you believe. Reagan basically invented the idea of massive national debt.
- MacEnvy, on 05/07/2009, -0/+13The polling data is pretty clear. And in case you haven't watched the news in a while, you guys got clobbered in the last 2 elections because of it.
But why would I expect you to acknowledge reality now? It's certainly not your M.O. - EthylAdded, on 05/07/2009, -12/+25I agree with Rush. The GOP needs less calm, rational, centrist leadership and more angry rich bloated white men.
Go on, fat boy. Kill your party. - dancindrudge, on 05/07/2009, -1/+13isnt he though? isnt that why the repugs put him there? as if to say... look we have one to? kinda like their hail mary with palin?
- fasda, on 05/07/2009, -1/+12No I meant the more moderate branches of the GOP like John McCain circa 2000 election (not the 2008 wingnut pandering version) where you could sit down and have a reasonable discussion about things would move to the Dems. The Neo cons I think are so enraptured by their belief that they are correct they'd stick to the GOP.
