It was Daniel Ellsberg getting "thrown under the bus" and becoming a whistleblower that eventually led to Nixon's impeachment being initiated in the house and ubsequently Nixon's resignation.
This house of cards... oh it is a tumblin'.
Too bad, so sad.

There is no scandal." These idiots are putting the proverbial noose around their own man's neck.
Bush is currently claiming ignorance of the deeds and, in effect, admitting wrongdoing was done in his name (but without his direct knowledge, of course). You simply can't claim everything is above board and also be throwing staffers under the bus. Roadkill only feeds the hungry dogs. And you also can't claim to have a power but then be innocent if you intentionally delegate it and someone then abuses it in your name. If it's your power, it's your responsibility.
If he'd simply act like a man, stand up and say, "I did it. I fired them, as is my right under the law. I'm the Decider," then we could resolve this much more quickly. We'd still have to determine if the original deed was illegal. But we'd get there much faster, avoid the cover-up and trial atmosphere and the President wouldn't be making more smoke than there really is (and I think there is quite enough already).
The fact that BushCo is in panic mode, throwing parachutes out of a sinking airplane to save weight, only makes it more likely he'll be impeached or resign in the end. It's not the crime, but the cover-up that gets 'em. They never learn.
