- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -34/+271Wait, you mean to say that the son of the man every Republican loves to slip the name of everywhere they can is not supporting McCain? BURN.
- algaeturd, on 11/01/2008, -77/+297He's a better man than his dad is...I know that republicans think Reagan was the second coming but we DID suffer quite a bit under him, there were many scandals and issues with the administration and Reagan was the first president to ever legalize busting a union. So in many respects, Obama is the anti-Reagan. I'm glad to see that Ronnie has come around and come out publicly against McCain.
- wileyAU, on 11/01/2008, -3/+123Ron Reagan, despite his father's political leaning, is a well known liberal and was a Kerry supporter, speaking at the Democratic convention 4 years ago. So this isn't exactly a sudden betrayal or anything.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -60/+179Yeah Reagan broke up the Air Traffic Controllers Union. He was totally anti-union....and his trickle down economic theory was horrible for middle to lower income earners. He was the empty suit not OBAMA!
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -23/+124I am just waiting for the headline on Wednesday that says: a majority of Americans in key electoral states endorsed Barack Obama yesterday
- 68024, on 11/01/2008, -14/+103So... Ron Reagan's been known to be a liberal for years? Not much of a surprise.
- barryiggins, on 11/01/2008, -5/+82Zombie Reagan endorses BRAINS
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -31/+100I forgot to say.....Ron Reagan (Jr.) is a good guy and I love his radio program.
- steepdropman, on 11/01/2008, -25/+87Ron Reagan is NO Ronald Reagan. No surprise - - he's a liberal, and has been so for years. Anyone surprised by this is either under the age of 25 or a dope.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -13/+68The thing that gets to me about Republicans and Reagan is they think he made the government smaller. He didn't. Follow the money, he made it way too ***** much BIGGER. Reagan refined the process of Republicans stealing libertarian rhetoric to get elected and then governing like a statist instead of doing what he promised. I mean, why does the Dept. of Education, or the "Drug Czar," exist, if not to give sinecure government jobs to unemployable fatasses like William Bennett, who can't get jobs in the private sector unless you count a VERY low rated radio show?? I don't want make-work jobs programs from either party.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -12/+53For a moment..it thought it was ronald reagan
- kaysimons, on 11/01/2008, -28/+65I hope Nancy Reagan's endorsement of Obama comes out on Monday. Did anyone else notice her obvious absence from the Republican National Convention? That was no accident.
- IAMMIGHTY, on 11/01/2008, -22/+58So a democrat endorsed the democratic candidate.... HOW THE BLEEP IS THIS NEWS!!!!!
- zeebo, on 11/01/2008, -3/+39Mostly because the Soviet Union collapsed during his administration. It will be interesting to see what the Presidential Historians of our children's generation and later think of him as they are forced to pay for the massive debts that started accumulating under his policy of massive defecit spending.
- bpevans, on 11/01/2008, -2/+37And she she broke her hip not long ago...
- webwatch, on 11/01/2008, -4/+38Not to mention that he ran up the federal deficit .... leading Darth Cheney to declare "Reagan proved federal deficits don't matter".
His foreign policy was an abject failure as well, propping up dictators and exporting terrorism to South-America. Reagan administration exported arms to Iran and the Taliban. He propped up Saddam Hussein and failed to so much as lift his finger when thousands of Kurds were gassed.
He however was fortunate to see to Russia collapse under its own weight during his administration and made the most of it.
Also for the those that cry socialism.... It was Reagan who introduced the "welfare program" of Earned-income-credit.http://news.yahoo.com/s/huffpost/20081028/cm_huffp ...
He was also mostly uninvolved in his administration during his Second Term due to his Alzhimers. Watch the movie The Reagans. - Wryly, on 11/01/2008, -9/+40Cool. And nicely timed. Here's some food for thought, looking back at the conventions:
Can you imagine if the Obamas paraded 5 children across the stage, including a 3-month-old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?
Think Republicans would've had a problem with that? - skippyrandom, on 11/01/2008, -9/+40The Huffington Post = political myspace.
- JumpingJack79, on 11/01/2008, -7/+37How is that so, and how is McCain any more substantive? The way I see it, Obama's plans are a lot more specific and thought out, and they don't change from one day to the next.
- writie, on 11/01/2008, -39/+69It shows how inaccurate the "socialist" name-calling is.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -5/+33Ron Reagan isn't a conservative. Not by a long shot. Do you even know who Ron Reagan is?
- thedsack, on 11/01/2008, -38/+64Obama is now a Reagan democrat...
- TimDigg, on 11/01/2008, -3/+29Republicans don't give a damn about how small the govt is....as long it supports faith, family and flag...
Remember at the end of the end of the Clinton administration they didn't hate how big the govt was....they hated Clinton... - phonebill, on 11/01/2008, -8/+31I still think of Ronald Reagan every two weeks, when I get my paycheck and try to compute the significant amount of taxes that are still being deducted to pay for his outrageous deficit spending - caused by failing to tax wealthy citizens adequately. He was the original reverse Robin Hood.
- mikesoba, on 11/01/2008, -11/+34Reagan showed his disdain for assembly granted to us under the Constitution by shutting down the universities during anti-war protests. He shut down mental health care - today we still see the mentally unstable living on our streets, causing concern to individuals. He ignored the epidemic of AIDs thinking, as all conservatives have, that being a disease among gays and "Haitians", it is a way to decrease the population of gays and blacks. As mentioned, he utterly destroyed the Air Traffic Control in this nation that took many, many years to rebuild. He destroyed collective bargaining. He ensured that wealth continued to accumulate to the top and the rest became poorer through what Bush Sr referred to as voodoo economics. He tried unsuccessfully to end communism. I cannot think of a single positive legacy Reagan has left us. But I do see why bigots, racists and the very wealthy idolize him.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -12/+34Ron is a DIFFERENT man than his dad is, but I wouldn't call him better.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -11/+32Uh, it's not inaccurate, it's better described as hypocritical.
Consider: both Obama & McCain voted against capitalism* and FOR a socialist bailout of failing banks that happen to be full of big political contributors. That means socialist A is calling socialist B "a socialist," and I'm left mocking it because the mainstream media is dimwitted enough to swallow this ***** hook line and sinker. Sigh.
* Capitalists, especially libertarians -- heartless bastards that we are -- want to let *****-up & poorly-run businesses fail even if they're big, and even if the *****-up failure would cause political problems for both major parties. Socialists "rescue" them. If you vote for either "major" party, you're voting socialist. - AdHavoc, on 11/01/2008, -16/+37lol, Huffington Post
- CoolHandLuke, on 11/01/2008, -6/+27Why is this news? He's a well known dem.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -2/+21I think that might be insulting to myspace? tough call.
- ileftfark, on 11/01/2008, -22/+40Thank God... I was wondering if there were any ballet dancers that cover dog shows on Animal Planet that supported Obama. My faith has been restored.
- Mujokan, on 11/01/2008, -0/+18There was some gossip that their relationship was strained by McCain's divorce.
http://articles.latimes.com/2008/jul/11/nation/na- ... - pintomp3, on 11/01/2008, -3/+21i never understood the reagan mythology. he was a racist who supported segregation and the apartheid regime in south africa. he increased the national debt more than any previous president. he escalated the war and drugs and helped turn america into a country that incarcerates more of it's citizens than any other country. he sold weapons to terrorists in order to fund death squads in central america. he refused to fund AIDS research because he thought it was a gay disease. he took partisanship to a new level when he declared "thou shall not speak ill of a fellow republican". reagan an *****. may be burn in hell.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -2/+20So true! They would have had a field day! Excellent point...
- Nosferotu, on 11/01/2008, -1/+18I gotta agree - Reagan sucked for America. He started us into the era of living under crushing national debt, massive deficit spending, and brought the idea to the American mind that giving money to the rich eventually gets it down to the poor. His economic policies are based on *****, don't work, and yet we still suffer the consequences of their popularity into today.
- sodade, on 11/01/2008, -2/+19The worst thing about Regan was that he was a ***** traitorous criminal (hello - ***** Iran-Contra anyone?) that got away with it and showed the neocons that they could basically get away with anything - and then they did. ***** criminals all.
- altgeeky1, on 11/01/2008, -7/+24Republicans want to mold history about Reagan. We had a bad recession. Be caused the biggest tax increases EVER (Reagan lovers love to say the first Bush raised taxes, without admitting Reagan STIFFED Bush with a huge bill. Didn't happen. Nope).
Reagan invaded Grenada... and why did he do that? Because the US Marine barracks got blown up in Lebanon... 4000 miles away! Such leadership.
But the worst thing about Reagan is that every Republican since him feels they have to mimic him... which is why we have the ***** economy today.
Reagan and Bush have done to the US economy what the last dictators of the Soviet Union did to their empire.. caused collapse, defeat, and a loss in global power through bankruptcies. Ronald Reagan was no FDR. - badtzmartin, on 11/01/2008, -4/+21Right - she's very old, and traveling would've been difficult.
- sulthernao, on 11/01/2008, -4/+21This country has a lot of totally socialist programs, though. Unless Capitalists/libertarians are advocating the abolition of public schools, police, fire fighters, libraries, roads, etc.
- Elranzer, on 11/01/2008, -4/+20Never forget about Reaganomics, the trickle-down theory. That ***** doesn't work, it's just an excuse to give the rich more money.
- btc08, on 11/01/2008, -2/+18Mr. Senator...you are no Ronald Reagan.
- mysql101, on 11/01/2008, -7/+23Yeah, people worry about having 10% interest rates from ARMs, imagine having more than double that. It's like credit card interest rates on your $250,000 house. Now they're jumping towards it with the democrats as a way to escape the republicans.
I think the republicans failed us, however jumping to the democrats is like jumping over a cliff to get away from it.. I'd love to see the system open up to allow 3rd parties to stand a chance.
I can't even vote for ron paul because he stands no chance cause something like 7 states don't allow write ins. - bsbdeb, on 11/01/2008, -8/+23What?! A well known democrat supporting Obama? Who could have guessed?
- TheTaoOfBill, on 11/01/2008, -2/+17trickle down economics works well actually. Just not in today's world. This is because the world has become much more globalized since Reagan's time and the idea behind trickle down economics is that companies invest back in America but in this global market there is no telling where companies will invest.
- jetboyterp, on 11/01/2008, -25/+40Some "suffering"...Reagan inherited from Carter double-digit inflation, double-digit unemployment and turned them around. Not to mention the fall of the Soviet Union, fall of the Berlin Wall, etc.
I like that kind of "suffering"... - purzzzell, on 11/01/2008, -1/+16He appears frequently on Air America to substitute for their regular left wing talkers when they take vacations.
This isn't news. - drex8, on 11/01/2008, -2/+17"Ron Reagan is the liberal, atheist son of actor and President Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan. Reagan dropped out of Yale to become a ballet dancer, a move widely reported as embarrassing to his father."
haha - MAARRS, on 11/01/2008, -8/+22Damn right! No sharing the wealth! lets go back to 'trickle down' economics where the wealth stays at the top!
I would leave a harsher comment but something tells me anyone who names themselves 'Kobra Kommander' is most likely 12 years old. Or...an *****. - inactive, on 11/01/2008, -9/+23Reagan fired ATC's because they walked off the job in an industry where people's lives were at stake. He had every right to do it. Unions have become a noose around this country's neck. Less work, more money, more benefits, damn near impossible to fire. You want to know one of the reasons why the US automobile industry is in such dire straits? It's because unions are bleeding them dry. Granted, they industry as a whole has made some bad decisions, but find me an industry that has not? There was a time when unions were necessary in this country, but those days are long gone.
