- falseleftright, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3All of our decisions (or justifications rather) regarding Iraq have been based on fear. Fear of the terrorists who weren't there, fear of Saddam's WMD that he didn't have (except the ones we gave him), fear that we don't control enough of the world's oil...but the common denominator is fear. Fear is the great corrupter. It places us in an irrational state. When you are scared you are rarely able to think, you simply react. Now, whether you believe BushCo orchestrated 9/11 in order to start the War on Terror (lol a war against an emotional state of being), or if you simply believe that we were somewhat blindsided by the attacks of 9/11 and Bush has just bollocks-ed things up when we went into Iraq, realize this: decisions made in fear are generally devoid of thought. To me that means, avoid making those types of decisions where fear (and not an actual tangible threat) are the sole motivators of said decision. Now we fear leaving the mess we created because it MIGHT get worse there. It is hard for me to see how that is possible but again we have it, fear of something that is not actually tangible (not real in other words). Now we fear where our speculation leads us, that somehow things will unravel if we leave. Sorry, I call shenanigans on this. We need to stop making foreign policy decisions based on fear of the intangible. Turning around and walking away is the most courageous thing we can do at this point.
