- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -18/+241Ron Paul deserves a high approval rating. He is as the only candidate that speaks out on constitutional issues--government must respect citizens’ privacy, abolish warrantless wiretapping and restore habeas corpus. He is passionately against a national ID card program, over spending and bloated government. He would also eliminate income tax in his first week in office.
Ron Paul is the candidate for the people. - R34C7, on 11/11/2007, -12/+158If Ron Paul could win the presidency, I could truly see the United States turn back toward the great nation that it used to be before Liberty was forgotten... in my lifetime!
- roguescout, on 10/12/2007, -8/+105Romney supporters must have sent out an alert. He received an unusually large chunk of the Drudge poll as well.
I say look at all the candidates and ask yourself which one sounds the least full of ***** and drags the smallest amount of negative political and personal baggage around with them.
To me, Paul is clearly in the lead based on that standard. - texaspatriot27, on 10/12/2007, -4/+84Ron Paul is the best candidate out there that speaks the truth and does not waiver on issues he believes in. He believes that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land and is a true Patriot. RON PAUL 2008.
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -6/+80The only sane, old-school Republican left in the country.
- dasilva333, on 10/12/2007, -5/+71i agree with people's idea that if it came down to Ron Paul vs Mike Gravel we would all really benefit from this
- TopherT, on 10/12/2007, -19/+85Gas prices arn't a political issue. Gasoline subsidies are unworkable. Oil is a world commodity. If you don't understand these concepts you shouldn't be allowed to vote.
- noodlez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+59as an independent who has only ever voted democrat, after that debate, ron paul is probably the best looking candidate the republicans have, especially if they want to redirect their platform to what it used to be, not continue down the path it has become.
kudos to him for rising up from obscurity. - AKBryant54, on 10/12/2007, -4/+59update: at 39k votes, his approval is now 31%, tied with Romney.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18421356/ - bagold51, on 10/12/2007, -6/+58I may be a registered Independent (former Democrat) but this is one Republican I could vote for; very honest and trustworthy. Unlike the other GOP hopefuls.
- fredricko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+54To me, the most significant thing about this poll is that Paul is the only candidate who made a significant gain over his previous numbers. Most of the candidates' ratings changed at most +/- 3% with the exception of McCain and Giuliani who actually lost 10% and 13% respectively, and Paul who gained about 21%.
- johnnyrocket, on 10/12/2007, -4/+46His approval rating is not up 32%... it's increased by 32 POINTS.
His approval rating is actually up 450%! - DigitalOmnivore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41He's got the lowest negative ratings right now.
- terdblossom, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42Ron Paul is founding father material. He is a medical doctor and has an impeccable record in Congress and in his personal life. He is the only person who could start to turn around the disaster that has been festering for decades in this country that has recently gotten a lot worse. His integrity is beyond reproach. It's sad to remember in '00 people talking about W. having "gravitas." Ron Paul IS "gravitas."
- silenteulogy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+43I wouldn't mind seeing a Paul/Gravel ticket (or Gravel/Paul if Gravel won his primary and Paul didn't).
- albrad84, on 10/12/2007, -7/+38Apparently you're a newcomer to Digg.... Let me also introduce you to our friends Barack Obama, Mike Gravel, Steve Jobs, and Mark Shuttleworth
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Dr. Ron Paul is a 10th-term Congressman, Medical Doctor, Veteran and US Air Force Flight Surgeon
- He is the ONLY Rep. presidential candidate to have voted against the Iraq War; The rest FLIP-FLOPPED.
Ron Paul wants to:
- Bring our troops home from Iraq & end the war
- Secure our borders from terrorism
- Stop illegal immigration & no amnesty for illegal immigrants.
- Limit big government in your private affairs & lives
- Abolish the IRS for fairer taxes for the people.
Vote Ron Paul for President in 2008! - warmonger48, on 10/12/2007, -9/+38Its amazing. CNN.com this morning had Giuliani's picture plastered all over the place and "how he bucked the field".
I might actually vote for a Republican in 08. Ron Paul. - nirvanix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32Paul strikes a cord with rational people because he speaks truth. The other candidates all sell the movie version of reality: "Vote for me or the boogieman is gonna get ya!"
- warmonger48, on 10/12/2007, -7/+36http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Paul
- DigitalOmnivore, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30I found that amusing too. All of the news outlets were talking about Gulianai's abortion stance, which is a little different than the other Republicans. Paul's Iraq stance is extremely different than everyone on stage, yet he gets no press. lol
- Buckiller, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29Libertarian Information http://www.lp.org/issues/platform_all.shtml
I did a project on this party in high school and must say that I associate more with it than with any others. - rac1974, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26honestly he sounds much more libertarian than republican.
- Neiby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25He is a Libertarian and once belonged to the Libertarian Party. However, he has been a registered Republican for a while now.
- GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26On oil think of it this way. Years of subsidies have made you dependent on oil. The free market works in this case because something that cannot support the load goes up in price and something else becomes more economical as a result. Without subsidies by now the US would have a much more diverse energy policy. Unfortunately you are now at a discontinuity. The longer you subsidise, the bigger the gap becomes and the more pain you will face. It is better to take the blow now rather than face it later on when oil is more scarce again.
Where the US is over this is the same place in some ways as Europe was over protectionism and nationalised industries in the 70's. Britain and Ireland took a more liberal route and have in the long term been better off as a result. Other European countries stuck to the socialist policies much longer (and yes subsidised oil is socialist) and have seen unemployment increase continuously. It's got to the point where the French are about to elect a Thatcherite, social France with a right winger as President. It will be painful for them but a decade from now the French will be far better off as a result. - jizzatch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Personally, I am a passionate supporter of Ron Paul, as I think most of the "Paulbots" are. Perhaps, this balances things out in a way, because we are doing as much to actively support Ron Paul as the mainstream media is doing to marginalize him.
TV and radio is controlled by only a few major corporations. The Internet is the last bastion of free speech in this country.
Why do you hate our freedoms? - silenteulogy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Either way it gives Paul much needed momentum going forward in the primary. Don't underestimate the power of the internet for a campaign either.
- Herolint, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24@digghasnoethics
So let me get this straight. Somebody who is actually interested in maintaining the 2nd Amendment so that the people can hold up their end and responsibility to keep the government balanced is a "nutter"?
Why do you think America is in such bad shape nowadays? It is because the branch of government called "The People" are totally neglecting their responsibilites out of sheer laziness and ignorance. As has been said before many times, Guns are the people's "Liberty Teeth". You want to throw that away? Perhaps it is you who is the "nutter".
As for abortion. Your opinion on it is also indicative of what's wrong with America. The majority of American's, it seems, want to make poor choices and then lobby the government to legislate the consequences of those choices away; which is asinine. - inurb, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26I switched my voter registration from democrat to republican so I could help Paul in the primaries.
- DigitalOmnivore, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23The good part is, MSNBC can't ignore him if they mention the poll on air and he wins it.
- Hacbarton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22I'd be the last person to underestimate the power of the internet (we were all present last Tuesday). I would love for the internet to play a massive role in spreading support for the right candidates. The internet as a medium manages to filter out who has the most money and richest friends and leave the people with the best ideas on top. Someone like Ron Paul would've faded into the dust simply because he isn't friends with corporations. Thanks to the internet, his message will be heard regardless.
- jammerml, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21I think this is excellent news, and I am an independent left-leaning moderate. Ron Paul seems to be genuine, and a traditional republican. I think he'd make a great candidate.
Paul Vs. Gravel.....now that would be interesting. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+27If Paul wins I will truly be proud to be an american for the first time since I lost my innocents.
- Hacbarton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Here's the direct link:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18421356/
The problem with these polls is that they are in no way scientific, but rather how fast Ron Paul supporters (already notorious for utilizing the internet) can contact each other to vote. In other words, there may be more people who support McCain than Paul, but more Paul supporters are net-savvy than McCain supporters (for the record, Paul is the best Republican up there). - ColdDimSum, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23"He [Ron Paul] would also eliminate income tax in his first week in office."
The president alone does not have that power and furthermore, anyone with a lick of sense would realize that such a move would be disastrous for this country. I'm *all* for eliminating personal income tax but there has to be a sane and reasonable transition plan and it needs broad support within the country and congress.
That said, Ron Paul is definitely an interesting candidate. I was always kind of sad that he had to switch parties to get any traction -- sad that we Americans can't seem to think past a 2 party system. - FlaG8r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Where do you think those innocents went?
- roguescout, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19@dhspls
I may have agreed with you a few years ago when I believed the lies. But now it is obvious that Iraq was a huge mistake. You know what changed my mind? I stopped listening to the extreme left/right media in our country and started listening to our troops! That's right. Spend some time listening to the enlisted men and NCO's in Iraq who know the truth and are in the middle of the sandy suck right now. They know better than any of us back home what this war is about. I'm torn just like them. They support Bush because he is their boss, but they know better. I support them because they are volunteers and the bravest among us, but I now know better as well. Either ***** or get off the pot, Mr. Bush. All that is happening now is our troops being killed with no steady progress. There is some progress thanks to the hard work our troops are doing on the ground, but overall our government has us in another damn stalemate. It is time for Iraqis to ***** or get off the pot too when it comes to choosing between being a nation or being destroyed from within.
***** Iraq and ***** the oil. We finally need to get our troops home safe or at least focused back on battling terrorists instead of trying to mop up and police yet another war they were forced to stop fighting too soon before complete victory. Our troops haven't been given a real victory since WWII because of our terrible politicians from both sides of the aisle. If they can't come home with a clear victory, they at least deserve to come home knowing they did their best considering our government failed them again and we still love and support them. - fknc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17@ schnoggi
Ron Paul believes the legality of abortion should be left up to the states because the U.S. Constitution does not grant the federal government the authority to control it. - dukeeeey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/may2007/040507Paul.htm
- phidgt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Romney might be the youngest guy, but he looks too much like a game show host for me to take seriously.
Ron Paul was the only person who actually answered the questions he was given. Quite rare in a politician. He also came across as very well spoken, stayed within his time limit and made sense. Unfortunately, I don't think he will be able to get the Republican nomination. I may just have to change party affiliations to help this guy.
As far as the poll goes, scientific or not, they are all a bit hokey. He's getting some good press from this and hopefully more people will stop and take notice. Now if we can only get the Christian right to stop drinking the Koolaid. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -27/+43This is incredibly misleading. You're talking about an unscientific poll on a website, one that can be gamed by spreading the link to libertarian blogs and website, urging people to "show support" for Ron Paul by voting for him. It's pretty obvious that that's exactly what happened here. And now that it's on Digg, expect his numbers to keep growing, since a lot of people here like him.
This is just silly and is a complete misrepresentation of who really does have high approval among Americans. Congratulations on spinning the numbers. - silenteulogy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@ flag8r
You are a moron. VAT or NST would actually FORCE the rich to pay their fair share in taxes. It would eliminate all the loop-holes that rich people use to avoid paying taxes - if they want their expensive toys, they will have to pay up. - TheBogie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Ron Paul is like a Republican Mike Gravel. These two are the only candidates who have any balls. Mike Gravel has a pair of pure titanium testicles.
- DigitalOmnivore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Both parties have had unknowns come out of nowhere to win the nomination before.
- DigitalOmnivore, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21take this crap to a moonbat hillary thread.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Dr. Ron Paul advocates the limited role of government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to monetary policies based on commodity-backed currency. He has earned the nickname "Dr. No" for voting against any bill he believes violates the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Paul is the "one exception to the Gang of 535" on Capitol Hill. He has never voted to raise taxes or congressional pay; He voted against the Patriot Act and the Iraq War.
- robotsongs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18So he's at 33% now?
- xlocust, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17ilyag:
Ron Paul is not a liberal. He is a libertarian. Big Difference. - clownguyx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I could be wrong on this, but I believe he opposes abortion personally, but does not believe it is a matter to be handled by the federal government. I'm pro-choice and I don't have a problem with leaving this up to the states.
- Muyoso, on 10/12/2007, -15/+28In an unscientific poll, which I wouldnt doubt was slammed by either digg, or another pro Ron Paul group. So no.
