- xrayecho, on 10/10/2007, -3/+53Straw Polls are the new Internet. Now we are spamming reality!
:) - K1CK1NG, on 10/10/2007, -1/+44I was there, and I finally got to vote for somebody rather than just voting against somebody!
- faithfreedom, on 10/10/2007, -3/+42Ron Paul movement is getting better everyday!
- synapz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26Ron Paul will win
- heebygeeby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23Romney doesn't do so well when he's not buying peoples' votes, busing them in, and giving them free food. What a co-inky-dink!
- Captainshays, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23the mainstream media will go back to talking about OJ Simpson ad nausium before they mention this no matter how unimportant it is. I say unimportant because they'll mention Edwards haircut for three weeks and Paris Hilton's shoe size and Ghoulaini's sneezing over pepper at dinner but they won't mention RP. Its up to the people to get the Ron Paul message out and convince everybody to change their registration to Republican so that we can get him in at the primary level. Even talk to Democrats because it would benefit them as Americans to get RP in the race.
- Wizardtb, on 10/10/2007, -2/+25I'm pretty sure some meaningless mishap in Lindsey Lohan's unloved life is going to get more coverage than this... "FOX NEWS Breaking News: this just in... Lindsey Lohan is still a whore."
- faithfreedom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19Hope this will turn out to be a good advertisement
- rolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19Not just clogging the tubes of the internets anymore.
- patimen, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21Now all we have to do is spam the elections... they'd still complain that there aren't many of us and we just care more.
(No, I'm not advocating cheating!) - axiomata, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18I take back anything bad I have ever said about Bama.
- thecoolestguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Look mate, it's not right to call an entire people in a State racist. Every American deserves to be treated with respect. I assume they voted for Ron Paul because they believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
- AZtoJapan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16I moved to Alabama about 6 months and I have been pleasantly surprised. Having Ron Paul win the straw poll makes me like living here even more.
- jabowery, on 10/10/2007, -6/+19Straw polls are meaningless. In fact, voter preferences are meaningless. The only thing that matters is what I think my friends think the Old Media talking heads are telling them to think.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Yea because a poll of 278 is way different than a phone poll of 500 that the media conducts. Clearly this proves Ron Paul is the only candidate with true supporters. No one else bothered to get off their asses to vote for the other candidates.
- rolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12But Ron Paul only has to win the primary, where turn out is much lower than general elections - and Ron Paul's supporter will come out for that event while many casual supporters (the other candidates) won't bother.
I believe it was Lew Rockwell that predicted that Ron Paul only needs 15K votes in NH to win that primary. - faithfreedom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Where the hell is Mitt ?
/sarcasm - gjwatersjr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Keep in mind, 216 votes is approximately half the size of the scientific polls the media routinely runs on its front pages. Also, unlike the registered Republicans contacted randomly via land-line, these people are passionate and guaranteed to vote come the election. Paul supporters are fervent and running counter to the trend of Republican's decreased participation in this election's straw polls.
It could be Paul's supporters are the only that show at the poll come nomination day, assuming Romney doesn't bus in the entire nation for the win. - andrewgreve, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13What an awesome day! The energy was great there.
- gjwatersjr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14What accounts for the difference in results between Alabama's straw poll and the much reported Illinois straw poll? Voter busing.
P.S. Paul also won a straw poll in New Hampshire today at 73% (http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/014783.html). Romney's buses weren't there either.
...and neither is the media, of course. - UnFriendlyFire, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12[R]eclaim

Local news. - suzuko804, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12278 is the correct number. Of those, 216 voted for Paul.
- coldfact, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14The latest "scientific" CBS poll (http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/081307_gop.pdf ) which CBS used to declare that Giuliani was "maintaining his strength" (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/08/13/opinion/polls/main3162457.shtml ) was based on polling 295 "Republican Primary Voters".
This poll had 266 votes cast. Would it be "scientific" to say that Ron Paul is now the undisputed front-runner? If CBS can do it, so can we. - wgadget, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Next stop---Texas!
- jabowery, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10This story has been buried.
I discovered this by doing a search for "ron paul" first without and then with buried stories.
Is there some easier way to detect when a story has been buried? - RunawayElf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I don't go to any Ron Paul forums. I come to Digg for NEWS. This to me, seems like news.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Everyone should submit this to cnn i-report. Maybe they just might decide to report real news.
- UtahApocalyse, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Were not just the Internet.
- RunawayElf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10First this article is on the upcoming stories section, then it disappears. I don't digg a whole ton of Ron Paul stories, but this one gives hope for people.
Digg is becoming part of the 'Old Media' that is so disrespects. This sickens me. - dallascorbin504, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12...." And in political news tonight, only 62 people showed up at the Alabama Straw poll today. The winner: Mitt Romney with 22% of the vote. More to come after these messages on Fox News. "
- brunner, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9See for yourself: http://www.ronpaul2008.com/
- gjwatersjr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I think it suggests the GOP doesn't care about its current candidates, that is, except for the GOP supporters of Paul. If the other candidates drew numbers similar to Paul's, the poll attendance would be on par or above that of prior years. FYI; Iowa was a major attendance letdown for the GOP as well.
I don't see the GOP having a chance in '08 without Paul. Given that both the party and old media seem hostile to him, the election may go to the Democrats by default. - llamabread, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Judging by your two comments, you obviously don't live in the South, so let me tell you how it is. There is alot more racism in the big cities on the East and West coasts then there is in the South. Just because the center of the civil rights movement was here, doesn't mean we are all still racist. By calling us that, you are the one being a racist bigot. We got over it, why don't you.
Alabama and the rest of the South will elect Ron Paul in a landslide come election day. Not because we are racist, but because we truly believe in liberty. - TheRedNewt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Being an Alabama resident, I can attest that this is not a huge event. I actually found out about it from a Ron Paul site. It's good for encouraging his base, but I don't know how much media coverage this will actually get.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9They have just as many votes as the USA today and other media polls, if not more. Not only that you have to do them in person, which means they mean way more than a phone poll or internet poll. You have to actually move to vote. Clearly Mitt Romney only gets votes when he busses them in, while Paul's supporters actually take it upon themselves to get to the voting location. No one will be able to bus people to a voting location in the real election. Romney's support is clearly artificial. And as the media likes to say, a win is a win.

- sciencebzzt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8and there were malfunctions with the human vote counters, they counted too accurately, and needed to be replaced with more neocon counters
- brentsanders, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8News that 'onetimer' doesn't want you to see. that is why he buried it. :)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Ron Paul can't WHAT?! :D
- synapz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Ron Paul? He's going to win.
- bizchris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Whoa, whoa, whoa... you're suggesting increasing voter turnout as a political strategy? Heresy! What kind of monster are you? ;-)
- TheRedNewt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I'd say that figure probably carries over to the rest of the nation as well. I can say that I have done my part to change that by actually getting out and spreading information here in Alabama. I was actually surprised by the number of people who knew exactly who he was and immediately responded with their likes and dislikes.
Political apathy is a problem though. However, it's a national problem. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I've lived in NC for twenty years now I will tell you that I see just as many black people that are racist here as white people. Don't even try to say it's a white thing...it's a lie if you do.
- Satertek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Which would also translate to the polls next November, as voter apathy is usually a problem for most people (and wouldn't be for a Ron Paul supporter)
- Hogskin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Ron Paul is the only person for the job and all others are *****! CFR, NWO *****!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Any video of the event? Since this was Alabama, I would expect to see a divergent crowd. RP'ers keep telling us how his support crosses racial lines, despite EVERY video being full of 18-35 white males.
Alabama SHOULD be a great source of video showing more than just young white males (with the occasional young white female). - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6If it mentions Ron Paul anywhere in the Title or Description, it's going to be buried under "spam"
