Ron Paul Thinks The Civil {War, Rights Act} Were Wrong
edgeofthewest.wordpress.com — "No, he [Lincoln] shouldn ’t have gone, gone to war. He did this just to enhance and get rid of the original intent of the republic. I mean, it was the–that iron, iron fist" Ignoring the fact that Lincoln spent his campaign & 1st year of presidency trying to avoid war & to keep the Union together. So much for championing the republic & liberty.

- sumgi, on 12/26/2007, -0/+1The prevailing doctrine of the day was that States had the right of secession. If you think about it these were elected governments representative of their people voting to become independent. How is that different than the colonies breaking from the British empire? What is the difference between Lincoln sending troops to end state independence and the King sending troops to end colonial independence? The difference is the states lost their independence.
Ron Paul is saying that the States should have been allowed to leave, that we could have reached an agreement peacefully that was economically and socially agreeable. We could always fold those states back into the union later with a treaty, just as Texas was added.
