- antifed1, on 01/28/2009, -3/+44You won't hear anything like this on the MSM. It's well worth 28 min. to get the inside story of what is going on.
- Billhaynes, on 01/28/2009, -3/+36Ron Paul again exhibits that he knows what's happening. Where other commentators on the economic mess are lost, Ron Paul tells us how we got in the mess and how to get out of it.
- sheeplescareme, on 01/28/2009, -2/+33a voice of reason in an unreasonable world.
- kemp34, on 01/28/2009, -3/+32DC is currently a terrible combination of dumb and shady.
America could use an enema. - 1984USA, on 01/28/2009, -3/+32It seems and I hope I am wrong but it does seem like we may have missed our last chance of a peaceful resolve to our countries problems. The world called him crazy and now he is obviously right to everyone but our loss of Ron Paul may lead to destruction and the loss of many lives. The Fed will not give up power easily and the politicians are in their back pocket so how else will the American people preserve their liberties and take back our country from these monsters. I hope we can survive the next 4 years and Ron Paul can run again but he will be 76 or so and the memory of the people is very short. The media could spend the next 3.5 years praising him and telling us he is a genius after all and then in the last 6 months just say has crazy and the people would agree. When the pains of the people grow they will look around for answers and hopefully a few educated people will be around to tell them. I guess time will tell.
- Kent4jmj, on 01/28/2009, -3/+20Now this is what I call Public Service. Thanks for the post!
And we did not need a commitee, impact study, an army of burocrats or a few hundred thousand dollars of tax money. Stupendous. - inactive, on 01/28/2009, -2/+15May just make the trip from NYC to St Louis, MO this March...
http://www.campaignforliberty.com/blog.php?view=85 ... - GovernmentSp00k, on 01/28/2009, -2/+10Right on...
We do need a governmental enema.
Now more than ever... - GovernmentSp00k, on 01/28/2009, -2/+8I'm happy to hear he's speaking out, speaking truth to power in these times of mass media complicity, universal deceit, massive manipulations and calculated fraud. Speak on, Ron. We are listening. You tell it like it is, straight up. Ron Paul is a breath of fresh air from the mis-leaders, turncoat traitors and organized crime voted into power phonys who only pretend to "represent" us. Paul is a truth speaking American patriot among the sleaziest, blood-sucking, and most unconvincing would-be used car salesmen on the entire continent… Perhaps the entire planet.
- inactive, on 01/29/2009, -2/+7One of Ron Paul's best speeches. He's very relaxed talking to the friendly Von Mises and Lew Rockwell crowd.
But make no mistake, his warnings are dark, dire, and likely to go unheeded. - thrive868, on 01/29/2009, -2/+7Maybe it's the alcohol speaking, but I love this man.
- WhiskeyWrites, on 01/29/2009, -0/+3In fairness to Paul, the bill did also have parts pertaining to increased wiretapping powers in investigation of child pornography as well as making visual illustrations child porn. He may have been objecting to these other elements. It is always a problem when looking at votes that bills may have several parts which someone may be voting against even if not the whole thing. Though I wouldn't find it surprising if Paul was against the federal amber alert system as well.
Also, @Don Miliahn: Attacking the sponsor of the bill doesn't do much in this case other than making it look like you have nothing else to go on. It takes focus off of any good point you may make around it. - shig, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2A Scripps Howard study of the 233 AMBER Alerts issued in the United States in 2004 found that most issued alerts did not meet the Department of Justice's criteria. Fully 50% (117 alerts) were categorized by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children as being "family abductions," very often a parent involved in a custody dispute. There were 48 alerts for children who had not been abducted at all, but were lost, ran away, involved in family misunderstandings (for example, two instances where the child was with grandparents), or as the result of hoaxes. Another 23 alerts were issued in cases where police didn't know the name of the allegedly abducted child, often as the result of misunderstandings by witnesses who reported an abduction.
A team led by University of Nevada criminologist Timothy Griffin looked at hundreds of abduction cases between 2003 and 2006 and found that Amber Alerts actually played no role in the eventual return of the abducted children. In those rare instances where kidnappers did intend to rape or kill the child, Amber Alerts usually failed to save lives. Amber Alerts successes were usually about child custody fights which did not pose a risk to the abducted children.
What can I say? Ron Paul knows what a wasteful and potentially damaging program looks like, and when it makes it to his desk he votes no, God bless him... - DonMiliahn, on 01/29/2009, -3/+4I'd be interested to hear the real reason as to why he and 25 other members voted against the bill.
Something like this isn't going to change anyone's views on Ron Paul or his voting record. If you actually believe Ron Paul supports child abduction and the sexual exploitation of children, you've got to be kidding yourself.
As for Sen. Orrin Hatch, the sponsor of the Enhance AMBER Alert bill:
Senator Hatch legislated for dietary supplements to be governed outside of the realm of drugs and food additives. Utah, his constituency, is considered the "Silicon Valley" of the supplement industry. When the FDA was reviewing the adverse effects of ephedra, Hatch defended the supplement industry. Hatch's son was working for a lobbying firm at the time that represented interests in ephedra manufacturing.[8] In 2005 Sen. Hatch had an ethics award revoked.[9]
My guess is that Ron Paul understands how projects like this can be organized without bills or large government assistance. Government doesn't have to have it's hand in everything to make it work and in many cases it can impede its process. - eRenee, on 01/29/2009, -1/+1Maybe he can get some followers in office and ready to run.
- DonMiliahn, on 01/29/2009, -3/+3"The AMBER Alert™ Program is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies, broadcasters, transportation agencies, and the wireless industry, to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases. The goal of an AMBER Alert is to instantly galvanize the entire community to assist in the search for and the safe recovery of the child."
This is a voluntary program without the need for centralized planning or bureaucracy.
All I can find is a few unintelligent rants on this topic, which is where you probably came across it. Could you please find the actual bill that was voted against.
Thanks - COINTELPROAgent, on 01/29/2009, -7/+6Look it up yourself. ontheissues.org
This isn't anything against you personally, but I'm sick of lazy ass drug-addled Ron Paul supporters who can't research their own candidate.
That's why I tell them now to look it up themselves. - COINTELPROAgent, on 01/29/2009, -9/+6Ron Paul Fun Fact #98,658,075,685,686 - Ron Paul not only delivered over 4000 babies (or whatever the number is now) but he also voted against a nationwide Amber Alert system.
Yeah I know, pretty sick.
