- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+60At one point, growing hemp was considered a patriotic thing to do: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemp_For_Victory
The problem with hemp is it can replace too many other items. It can be used for paper, clothing, plastic making, fuel, etc., etc. The fat cat lobbyists don't like it so it is now "outlawed". Our FF grew it and used it judiciously. Then again, what do they know? They just founded this nation. Now we're run by either liberals or neocons. Both of which should be shot on sight. Preferably with a hemp bullet. - asimo8, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44Ron Paul is the political Chuck Norris
- thelastknowngod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39the drug laws in the us on marijuana are ridiculous. i honestly have never even heard a story about someone getting into a car crash or having to be taken to the hospital for MJ. if that is outlawed then alcohol should be as well...

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/380569/*****/ - mattxb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39I'd never heard of this guy 3 days ago, but he keeps sounding better and better. Next I'm expecting him to be standing in my kitchen with a sandwich that he made just for me.
- unicornhunter, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Cool, even though it doesn't have much of a chance. Ron Paul is too cool to be accepted by the majority. "Just think of the average American, well, by definition half of them are dumber than that."
- jdh24, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38But Ron Paul just secured many, many people to support his run for Presidency.
Ron Paul for President 2008! http://www.ronpaul.org/ - Keiser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26I have to agree with lastknowngod, the first time I tried cannabis I just thought "This is it?, This is what is so illegal?" It was so much less intoxicating than alcohol which is why I prefer the latter.
- bustaballs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28I love you Ron Paul. All of your views mirror mine.
- kakwakas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Nooooo!
Why did he have to do it that way? You're supposed to make some anti-terrorism bill and have hemp farming in it in small print as a rider!
It works for the republicans! Why can't the rest of the legislation do it?! - Kevinok, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Hemp is such a useful product, it is a shame that it is not more widely used.
- Area51mafia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22What a ***** website Ron Paul has. Somebody on Digg needs to hook him up with a good site!
- gallagherFTW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18add me to that list of mirroring views. i find it funny he is from texas (houston nonethless) and is so much unlike Bush. If texas can elect him, so can the majority of America in 2008
- Neiby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19This is yet further proof that Ron Paul is not your typical Republican. The guy actually uses common sense. He's one of the few politicians I know who regularly makes sense. :) We need to start spreading his name around as a serious candidate. The guy could single-handedly turn around our country is several needed ways.
- uttles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Ron Paul is the man. Ron Paul in 08, beat socialism!
- capiCrimm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18@raybury,
What about the argument that it's not dangerous enough to be outlawed. Or how about the argument that it overfills our prisons and escalates violence between gangs and illegal orgs? Or the argument that it's not the responsibility of our federal government to regulate these drugs?
Can we still address those?
Reforms work slow and revolutions work quick, but as long as they go towards the same thing I care less which one we use. - dgh1973, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18@2ndRevolution
The problem doesn't really lie with the politicians per se, it's with the lobbying power of the industries that are, like you said, threatened by hemp production.
If more was done to crack down on lobbying we'd see a lot more in the way of cool things like electric cars, less pollution, etc. - inurb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Ron Paul is too good of a candidate to be accepted by the majority. It's a god damn shame. I'm still casting my vote for him.
- vuke69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Ron Paul keeps sounding more and more like a Libertarian.
And yes, that IS a good thing. - thetimeisnow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Oil

Hemp is extremely healthy for humans
and the motors than it burns in as well , they last longer
hemp fiber is very strong and what do you think the sails that brought ships across the ocean were made from?
The strongest fiber!
Hemp Hemp Horray!
we can make our own bio fuel ,
Henry Ford's first model T was fueled with hemp and the tires and body
hemp can save the rainforest by providing much more per acre than any other plant
all the plastic, legalize this already, save the planet from insanity

Horray! - Neiby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14He is libertarian, but not a Libertarian. I am a Libertarian, but I'm thinking of switching my affiliation back to Republican like I was years ago just so I can better support his campaign.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Does that make Obama the political Vin Diesel?
- pauljaroszewski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Im diggin' this Ron Paul cat...this guy is closer to being a conservative than these wack jobs in the whitehouse...hes probably the republican party's best candidate and worst fear all rolled into one haha!
- madplatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Hemp is NOT marijuana. You can't smoke it (well, you could, but you'd be disappointed). It's a sustainable, environmentally friendly alternative to paper, fiber, food (it's extremely healthy), and more. It needs to be legal. If you don't understand the difference, look up the Hemp article on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemp - asskey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12It's up to the politicians whether or not to listen to the lobbying groups.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I've said it before, and I'll say it again: he's got my vote. Even if I have to write it in.
To the R. Paul critics: please do some reading before you vote. This bill is in regards to non-psychotropic hemp. In other words, the kind you *don't* smoke. So please, although the legalization of marijuanna deserves consideration, that is not the issue being discussed here. - squarooticus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The problem is the structure of the system: if the government didn't have so much power, there would be no influence for the corporations and special interests to buy.
- Marijuana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I love 2007 because growing support for Marijuana is showing. Even if it's just hemp, the root.
- vuke69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The letter to my congress critter:
Rep. Sensenbrenner,
Please support H.R. 1009 "Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2007".
There is no rational excuse as to why prohibition on a crop as useful as hemp should remain to this day.
Why continue giving farmers subsidies to not grow crops, when you can give them a viable alternative crop to grow? A crop that will not only make them money, but probably help reduce the US Trade deficit as well.
A similar bill was before the Wisconsin State Legislature in 2002 (AB 679), but sadly it was killed off in the rules committee. Maybe actions at a federal level, even if unfruitful, would revive hope for legislation in WI, maybe not. But I would rather see the door open a crack, then firmly shut, and deadbolt in place.
Thank you, - xavihax0r, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Ron Paul foot soldier reporting in.
I would seriously consider taking time off school to help this guy win.
My name is Robert and I can't stop thinking about Ron Paul. This guy is cool; and by cool, I mean totally sweet.
Facts:
1. Ron Paul is a mammal.
2. Ron Paul would never fight.
3. The purpose of Ron Paul is to flip out and remove government overstepping of powers
Ron Paul is sooooooooooo sweet that I want to crap my pants. I can't believe it sometimes, but I feel it inside my heart. This guy is totally awesome and that's a fact. Ron Paul is fast, smooth, cool, strong, powerful, and sweet.. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12well here's a brilliant idea. when you see a headline that has something along the lines of "Ron Paul Introduces the Industrial HEMP Farming Act of 2007 to Congress" DON'T ***** click it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@iamscrewed2007
well, aside from your comment being an obvious troll attempt (bad troll, bad) ... i have to post this link in regards to it: http://www.postchronicle.com/news/health/article_212862.shtml - vuke69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Actually I am also a former republican. An not to sound like a "me too", but have also been giving serious thought to supporting his campaign if it gets off the ground.
- uttles, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Veganism? No thanks.
- baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9this guy is my ***** hero. can someone print up some superhero posters of Ron Paul. i would totally pray to that *****
- dmsean, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9RE: iamscrewed2007
actually if you legalized weed, people would stop doing it. most do it cuz it's illegal.
and also, it is not a proven fact thc destroys brain cells..... - Promantarius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Why would that stop him winning? It's an industrial product, not a drug. He's not advocating the legalisation of Marijuana or anything, just a product that can be used for many legitimate purposes but was banned because it is connected to the drug.
- dkm201, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Here's why...
From Wikipedia: "Paul also indicated that his grassroots campaign will attempt to take full advantage of the Internet."
I was hesitant to list that because it probably won't be long now until it is removed from his Wikipedia page.
If you frequent any other political sites you'll notice that droves of Ron Paul flacks have been spamming the crap out of all of them for the past 3-4 weeks.
This post will be dugg down by his internet-trolling PR staff in 5..4..3.. - Anth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yes, it is up to politicians whether or not they listen to lobbyists. However they also know if they piss an industry off, he or she wont be getting any donations next election cycle, and that industry is going to do their best to get the current politician out of office and someone who is more sympathetic to their viewpoint in office.
- AudioEnthusiast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If the federal government served the people of the United States, like it's supposed to, our country would not be in the sorry state that it is. Unfortunately, every citizen of the US is indentured into providing the top 1% with all the privileges and luxuries they feel they deserve by standing on our backs. Unfortunately I don't see a way out of it other than a second revolution, which is never going to happen as we live in a nation of downtrodden pussies for the most part. Life is what you make of it. Tell these bastards what you want. If you have the drive, you will get it.
- bigdt87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think hes getting my vote too. check out my new sig :D
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/2735/ronpaulrc0.jpg - Muyoso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I would like to agree to that, but I doubt it. Reading through the wiki on him, there are just too many things that can be taken out of context with regard to his voting record and his quotes. He will be portrayed as a racist, and as a conspiracy theorist. I can just see the ads now.
- kleerose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Cool,I was the 420th digger........
- jron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6For those saying digg users are gaming the system with Ron Paul: one need only look at how many Obama stories get submitted to digg; the difference being, this man actually stands for something. Moreover, he has earned his support with no support from the main stream media. I am part of no Ron Paul mailing list or group conspiring to digg Ron Paul stories. I take a few minutes every day or two to digg Ron Paul stories that I agree with (yet to be one that I haven't). Digg can be used for more than being a corporate fanboy of all things tech. I encourage everyone to do whatever it takes to support Ron Paul. With the help of sites like digg, we all have the ability to break free of the media's shackles. Without digg, how many of you would even know who Ron Paul is or that he is interested in being your president?
- inmatarian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Can't wait until I get some Woody Harrelson hemp pants.
- vuke69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I appreciate your support, however....
If you can't be bothered to do the tiniest bit of research yourself, do you really even care enough about the issue to make a comment to your rep?
P.S. http://www.house.gov/ enter your zip in the upper left hand corner, it will tell you who your rep. is, go to their site, find contact information, use it. - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The bill has absolutely NOTHING to do with legalizing MJ. It is to farm hemp crops.
- jivatmanx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hmm... I'm thinking that maybe this could pass in the house, although I'm not so sure about the senate.
I actually wrote my congressman, Dan Lipinski, about this same act when it was first presented in 2005. He gave me a ***** response about it "sending the wrong message about drugs", but I respected that I actually got a real, non-automated response. Some people here certainly do a lot of complaining about political issues without ever writing them. These people are supposed to answer to you.
I reccomend to each of you to email your congressmen about issues that are important to you. If they're not really famous like Hastert or Rahm Immanuel or something, they might answer. - lordmetroid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The man that can save United States from the Neo-cons and Communist democrats
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Good, one of the few in poltics with a brain.
- AnotherBrian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Re: iamscrewed2007
"Drugs kill people and ruin lives. Sure you could say alcohol does too, but drugs are worse."
Could you explain how alcohol in not a drug.
"So stop this hippy drugs are good for you crap"
Drugs aren't good for you in the same way that skydiving isn't good for you. People die from that too you know. -
