- WRellim, on 10/26/2007, -1/+11Actually this is inaccurate. ALL candidates are required to return monies that they are aware are not donated by individual citizens.
Under U.S. law, corporations are not allowed to support candidates for federal office. What typically happens is that a corporate officer will personally donate money, then donate on behalf of his wife, and/or adult children ("technically" it is the wife & children making the donation, as it is illegal to make a donation in someone else's name, but what silver-spoon college student or rich kid will really dare to tell his dad "no" or turn him in for committing such a crime?). In addition to that, corporate officers often serve as "bundlers" in that they "strongly encourage" their associates and/or employees to make donations as well. (And again while it is technically illegal to use any type of reimbursement, enticement, or threat to make someone else donate, many people suspect that this is often done with a "wink and a nod").
But in addition to personal donations directly to a candidate's campaign, PACs (Political Action Committees) can make receive donations and then use that money to provide "issue supporting campaigns" and/or even forward donate some of that money to the candidate's campaign coffers.
Where the difference lies is in the Ron Paul campaign from say the Giuliani or Clinton campaigns is in the % of money raised by PACs. - WRellim, on 10/26/2007, -4/+9Actually, since so FEW elected officials DO follow the law... perhaps he does?
- SlamShut, on 10/28/2007, -0/+1No, but she'll raise a ***** more than Paul will, and that's the rub.
- IkeMavent, on 10/26/2007, -2/+3Yeah, it's illegal to accept donations from corporations, genius
- noxid101, on 12/21/2007, -0/+0Something is happening here don't be surprised if Ron Paul supporters keep doing what they are doing. Dec 16th Ron Paul supporters raised $6million, breaking Johon Kerry's one day record. Ron Paul supporters are very motivated. Dr. Ron Paul cured my apathy. I don't wait until the primaries are over and then go with whom ever my party chooses. People want to make a choice for themselves. The national polls are way off for the republicans and the democrats. Ron Paul wins the republican side and Edwards wins the Dems side, yet the national polls don't show this. Paul has won most of the Straw Polls, yet it is not reported. Check this info out for yourself. Also check who won the first National Caucus, Ron Paul did, in both the republican side and the open voting. God bless.

Ron Paul didn't murder children and bury them in his basement! Let's all admire him! - reed311, on 10/26/2007, -5/+5Ron was simply following the law. He doesn't deserve recognition for that.

Wow, that's precious. Thanks for the heads up, non-genius.
"Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama ran ahead of New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D) and former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani (R) on their home turf in the first quarter, raising cash from the biggest investment banks on Wall Street.
The Illinois senator raised $479,209 from employees at the banks in the quarter, according to Federal Election Commission filings. Giuliani collected $473,442, and Clinton got $447,625.
The figures reflect giving from the employees of Bear Stearns, Citigroup, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, J.P. Morgan Chase, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, as well as Goldman and UBS. Goldman employees gave about 50 percent more to presidential hopefuls than the next-highest set of givers, at Citigroup."
They say the donation is from 'the employees', that's the loophole. The article stresses the point that you'll NEVER see a dime go to Ron Paul from Wall Street Banks' 'employees' because he won't accept the donations.
You bone heads get it yet? You think Clinton will raise $100 million from individuals? No wonder we're in the shape we're in.
