- felchdonkey, on 10/11/2007, -26/+187This guy scares me. Seriously.
There are politicians I agree with, and ones I disagree with, but Romney actually frightens me. Who knows what the hell goes through this guy's head? - redrock34, on 10/11/2007, -23/+168The dog is a metaphor for what he will do to Americans if ever President.
- laterthandawn, on 10/11/2007, -19/+150Sure, I'm no expert...but I'm pretty sure the law has something to say concerning that sort of animal abuse.
It certainly takes a special sort to strap a living creature to the top of a car just to make sure that it's included on the family vacation. What a champ. - mickeyknoxxx, on 10/11/2007, -6/+119A real man would've strapped his wife to the roof and put his dog in the front seat. ;-)
- rm999, on 10/11/2007, -8/+101It's weird how this is in a light-hearted news story, like it's something to laugh at.
- insomn3ak, on 10/11/2007, -13/+88"It was a tiny preview of a trait he would grow famous for in business: emotion-free crisis management."
So the dog suffers and the only thing it can do to get his clueless masters attention is to crap in his own 10X10 cage. When Mitt finds out, it's a simple "oh well little fluffy, haha...arent you adorable. Here, let me hose you off"...PWSHHHHHH "There ya go...all better"
Red flag anyone? - Pix869, on 10/11/2007, -16/+85ha, ha. That wacky Mormon, always gettin' into trouble with his antics.
- Szandor, on 10/11/2007, -5/+74Motorcycle Cop: Do you know what the penalty for animal cruelty is in this state?
Clark: No, sir, I don't.
Motorcycle Cop: Well... it's probably pretty stiff. - mal1964, on 10/11/2007, -1/+51Be honest diggers, did anyone read the whole ten page story ?
- jeanette3654, on 10/11/2007, -8/+50What did you expect from a guy who looks like a Ken doll?
- rm999, on 10/11/2007, -3/+43He will strap Americans on top of his roof?
- psygnisfive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+41That's the best part of the article. It's as if the writer is like "WOW, this Mitt Romney guy really is great! He didn't even worry that his dog ***** on his car, he just cleaned it up and kept on goin! What a guy!" instead of "WOW, this Mitt Romney guy really has insane! He didn't even worry that his dog could fall of an die or suffer horrible, he just tied it up and kept on goin! What a nutjob!"
- ajchavar, on 10/11/2007, -4/+39anyone else think of the simpsons when homer straps the horse to the roof?
[thump thump]
homer: Tunnel!
[horse ducks, hilarity ensues] - NoStoppingUs, on 10/11/2007, -4/+39you mean wives...
- felchdonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35First, we had to actually argue with the right wingers whether evolution was more plausible than the magic creation myth, and now you want to defend carrying a dog on the roof of a car?
I get that you like your guys' politics, but can you put them aside for a second and look at what you're defending here? There is nothing remotely funny about putting your beloved family pet in a box strapped to the roof of a car on the freeway. - johnlabmonkey, on 10/11/2007, -6/+39I guess now we can understand how this guy would want to expand Gitmo. No compassion, not even a glimmer of decent human kindness.
- jonpotz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+31I refuse to read 10 pages about this guy's life.
- daRoach, on 10/11/2007, -2/+29You're not supposed to let wind blow in a dog's face. He could get an ear infection.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/11/2007, -10/+36Romney is just a delusional douchebag. I can't stand him.
- jtorkbob, on 10/11/2007, -5/+31Sure, it's probably illegal in seven states today, and certainly you'd get some dirty looks anywhere.
But, it was a different time. Parents rode with babies in their laps. It was acceptable to sit in the 'way back' of the ol' station wagon. There were many cars on the road with no shoulder belts. These are risks deemed unacceptable in the last 20-30 years. Do I think my parents were irresponsible letting me sit on my sister's lap when there were no seats left? Maybe a little. Do I understand why they did it? Yeah, sure. They hadn't been inundated with warnings on these subjects for their whole lives, and the risks seemed marginal to them.
Meanwhile, I would never do that to a dog, and I'm pretty sure my father wouldn't have back then. I always say that a man's attitude to his animals is rather telling. Of course it's also telling that I'm not the kind of man who's afraid to use 'man' as a generic pronoun. It's a different time. - mlvassallo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+26Yes, lets elect Clark W. Griswold our next President. It is the next logical leap.
- thefirstenemy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22He'll turn this car around if he has to.
- Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -1/+23Put the dog in the back seat and open the window. He'll stick his head out into the wind for a while, then when he's tired of that (yes, it happens eventually) he'll come back inside and lay down. Being strapped to the roof, he has no way out and is probably scared to death.
No wonder he ***** all over, I would too. - Daolohua, on 10/11/2007, -4/+25Through all of this guy's attempts at convincing us he's more "country", he's only succeeded in convincing me he's a moron.
- prisoner24601, on 10/11/2007, -25/+45What I find amazing is that people take note of this rather bizarre mistake he made 20 years ago, but no one calls him on the laughable statement equating his Mormon faith with JFK's Catholicism he made on Leno a few weeks ago.
If you've never researched the "translation" that Joseph Smith claimed to have made on the so-called "Book of Abraham" and "Book of Moses" you really need to do that. If you spend half an hour asking the Mormon missionaries who knock on your door about this obvious fraud that Joseph Smith perpetrated, you'll immediately find that you know more about the documents than they do, and they won't bother to investigate it. They are happy in their fantasy world and no amount of reason can break through their impenetrable "I've prayed and FELT that Joseph Smith is a prophet" shield. It's truly staggering how irrational they are, and as a person of faith myself, I find their *unthinking* belief to be an embarrassment to all of us who try to defend "faith as a concept" to atheists. They just point to Mormonism and dismiss all faith of all kinds because "if 12 million people can swallow the irrationality of Mormonism, then your Christian faith is just as easy for me to disregard as another mass/willing self-delusion."
Don't forget for a minute that Mitt Romney personally spent two years knocking on doors (in France) as one of those ever-so-nice-and-polite, but unspeakably irrational missionaries. He may be willing to turn a blind eye to the obvious lies of Joseph Smith, but I'm not interested in voting for a president who is so easily duped (and apparently WANTS to be duped.) - moiremusic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22Um, airiox, do you seriously think that a "windshield" that he fashioned in front of a dog cage made it a suitable environment for a family pet? Do you really think that a dog in a cage on top of a car going 60+ miles per hour is calm and comfortable, and not terrified, because it has some sort of "shield" in front? And do you REALLY want us to believe that any such windshield would magically erase wind from the cage? You're an idiot. There is no way that dog wasn't terrified. And at the very least, grown dogs should never be forced to stay in a cage so long that they urinate and/or defecate in it. There is nothing OK about this story.
- tenaciousdino, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19poor little guy.... probably tried to keep up for the first few miles
- ADVIZR, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18Yes.
- Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18No, literally.
- Amnesia10, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17I would have thought that to leave a big dog in a cage on the roof for twelve hours would be excessive, and cruel. He should have at least stopped every few hours even if just to let the dog out to have a pee, a dump and stretch its legs. Heck even his kids would need a break.
- stupidcabbage, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Opinion of Romney by Barney Frank, distinguished Congressman from Mass.: "The real Romney is clearly an extraordinarily ambitious man with no perceivable political principle whatsover. He is the most intellectually dishonest human being in the history of politics."
- phike, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14How can a man that screwed up in so many ways as governor of Massachusetts even be considered for president?
- colouredlights, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15Does that many punctuation marks mean sarcasm?
- clyde2801, on 10/11/2007, -6/+18UTAH FAMILY VACATION! Hope the Bibleland amusement park wasn't closed when they got there...
- boredsam, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14Anyone else surprised that this animal abuse revelation is not the focal point of the article? They skim over this point as if it was just any other piece of inanimate luggage.
- rambis, on 10/11/2007, -9/+20What a ***** douche.
- indorock, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14Yeah, i did read he was put in a carrier. (A kennel is something totally different) And what? That makes it ok? It's quite obvious that the dog was in discomfort, else he wouldn't have crapped. Riding on the top of a car speeding along the highway for 12 hours, even with a so-called windshield, not even able to make his discomfort heard to his "loving" owners, i would consider animal abuse, without a doubt.
It's quite clear to me you have never had a dog. - Blowupologist, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15Well that pretty much guarantees that he won't be President.
- 10001, on 10/11/2007, -7/+18what? no video??
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10You should see his other kids. They're named Base, Fielder and Shortstop.
- MagicBobert, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15Looks like most people didn't read past the sensationalized headline...
- atrus123, on 10/11/2007, -7/+17Guess Romney now falls in that category of "People who Shouldn't Own Pets". Paris Hilton fits in that category as well.
- clyde2801, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Makes you wonder what he'll do for the Gitmo detainees...
- laserblazer, on 10/11/2007, -10/+19Romney and Clinton are the two worst candidates for the White House and the most likely to continue Bush's plan for selling out America.
- Geaugan, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13Yeah, i bet it was really nice up there with all the exhaust fumes and nothing but the sound of cars and rushing wind to keep the dog company. Any real American could have fit the dog in the car with room enough for a cooler and some other stuff. CARGO goes outside the car, not animals.
- hiro1188, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13Damn... that's horrbile...
poor pup... :( - sandbird, on 10/11/2007, -7/+15Do you have any idea how much wind noise the dog had to deal with on something like that? Trust me, a windshield won't prevent that. And it's not like the windshield stops all the wind. Now you've got an upset and wet dog, with wind swirling around him. Probably damn near froze to death.
- thomas, on 10/11/2007, -5/+13Ok, lets put you in a small box and strap it to the top of a car for 12 hours and see how you like it.

amazing........here, you'd lose the dog, lose any right to own dogs, get a fine you'd take quite some time to pay off and be branded an animal abuser.....
Guess animal rights are different all over the planet.... -
