- jellybean69, on 10/12/2007, -6/+44Here we go again with this *****. Cant we have an election without the big overblown "scandals" and "controversies". They act like obama having a muslim background is a terrible thing. Shouldnt elections be about real issues in America like Iraq and stuff.
- wisam, on 10/12/2007, -6/+40So what FOX basically did is defaming (without any proof) both Hillary and Obama.
And about Obama going to a Madrassa, the term "Madrassa" is Arabic for "school", so we all went to Madrassas. The kind of religious schools that are commonly refered to as Madrassas are nearly only found in Pakistan and Afghanistan as an alternative to missing official public schools. Indonesia is a modern country and I doubt that they have/had Madrassas in that sense. These schools were common in ruler Egypt till the second half of the past century and were called Kut-tab and the kids' only subject was memorizing the Quran. Modern Madrassas could be different but I doubt that the only thing they learn is hatred towards America as FOX wants you to believe. - Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -7/+30Two birds, one stone.
From the POV of the right, anyway. Again, it was FOX NEWS who spread this smear. I don't think Hillary's got their ear. - FearlessFreep, on 10/12/2007, -10/+31"he's a Christian."
So much for the Digger's vote - canadianguy33, on 10/12/2007, -11/+32Is anyone surprised that FOX would defame any democrat?
- Crossmenjeff, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23the republicans who could potentially kill two democratic birds with one stone. that's someone who could benefit from it. not saying thats who did it though.
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -12/+30Basically fox is trying to discredit the guy because while he stayed in a Muslim country he went to -get ready for the surprise- a Muslim school at the age of 5 or so, and for fox that constitutes a "hidden Muslim past."
The man has said he's Christian and that's all there is to his religious affiliation. - pdxuser, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23Yeah, because you know that when Hillary's staff starts a whisper campaign, they first call up InsightMag.com and tell them all about it. And for the millionth time, the guy isn't Muslim, he's a Christian.
- TheCash, on 10/12/2007, -9/+25Conservatives aren't the only ones reporting this story folks... MSNBC and CNN are all over it too, so why the slant against republicans.
No offense, but most don't see Obama as any sort of threat in '08. He talks a good game and seems like a nice enough guy, but frankly he doesn't have anywhere near enough experience for the oval office this time around. According to the most recent polls, Edwards is the biggest threat from the democratic ticket, sad as that is to say. Apparently people on the left see an ambulance chasing trial lawyer as an 'everyday kinda guy.' Makes you wonder what kinds of people these folks answering the polls hang out with on a daily basis.
Obama is a much larger threat to Clinton, as his moderate stance is forcing her to lean more to the left in order to stand out from him. By doing this, she risks alienating herself, and pushing moderate votes in Obama's favor. Given her track record, this is exactly the sort of tactic she would take. It's called politics people... anyone who thinks it's fair or friendly is suffering from a terminal case of ignorance.
Now for you militant lefties, I would suggest you go tidy up your own house before blaming your right wing neighbors for all your trash. In case you haven't noticed, they've got their own messes to clean up in the next two years before they go worrying about yours.
Frankly, if these facts are true, then Obama was lying about his past and that is going to hurt him big time. Bush was a coke sniffing drunk for a large part of his life, but he never denied it and so it was a non-issue. Hell, Mothers against drunk driving whole heartedly supported him all through both campaigns. He'd better learn from this if he's going to have any sort of future in politics. - zweben, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14You were doing so well until you got to "If he's a politician he must at least be a little trustworthy."
I beg to differ. - madmack, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Yes, i speak arabic. its a shame what FOX made out of the term "madrassa", in Arabic, it simply means "school". so that means that most people in the world go to "madrassas". Hell, we call a catholic school a catholic 'madrassa'.
and what's with the mess of mixing up wahhabiesm and hatred towards america ? let me make things a bit clearer for whoever is confused by FOX.
Wahhabi is a sect of Islam that is wildly practiced in Saudi, actually the only one allowed to be practiced. is it strict ? sure it is. does it preach hate towards the west and america, No.
Now, Saudi Arabia has Wahhabi rulers and they are America's big allies. Bin Laden, on the other hand, hates both America and Saudi Arabia. He hates Saudi Arabia and their rulers because they only allow one sect to be practiced, which is Wahhabiesm. He is not wahhabi and, NO, wahhabiesm does not preach hatred towards the west or americans. you would find many saudies in saudi arabia that love american values, unlike the sect bin laden and his followers follow in afghanistan/pakistan. So bin laden, in a way, is trying to fight Wahhabiesm, and take off the saudi rulers so a more diverse islam can be practiced (or so he claims at least).
i hope i shed some light on the issue here. its unfortunate how a mainstream media channel can put all that BS on without anybody really knowing the truth or whether what they're saying is right or wrong.
just my two cents. - kjzz12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Um, he's not a Muslim. He goes to United Church of Christ, and has for years. After he spent time at the madrassa, he went to a Catholic school. During high school and much of his time in college, he didn't exactly have set religious beliefs.
- DyDx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11@canadianguy: The difference is that Obama is perfectly willing to admit his cocaine use. George W. Bush, on the other hand, has done everything he can to hide or downplay the fact that he was a heavy alcoholic and a user of cocaine. Many Americans are completely oblivious to his record of DUIs and the like.
The fact remains that Obama really IS squeaky clean. Think about it -- it's only January 2007 and the opposition is already smearing him with extremely misleading rhetoric. He himself has admitted that he went to a madrassa for 2 years in Indonesia, but states that he also went to Catholic school there, and that his mother put him in whatever school she could that she thought would be best for his education with the money they had available.
However, the people who have tried to smear him for going to a madrassa never bother to mention the fact that a) madrassa is just an Arabic word meaning "school" and has no other connotations except those that racists in the West would like you to believe, b) he went when he was very young (I believe age 6 to 8) and c) they try to say he had a Muslim raising because of his father, when in reality he never knew his father because he was too young, and his step-father didn't practice Islam.
I tend to think that this early smear campaign may actually be a GOOD thing because it could portend that the opposition is having a real difficulty in finding something to actually damage him with.
He really does seem to be squeaky clean as far as politicians go. Cocaine use? Hardly an issue when our current president probably put much, much more of the stuff up his nose than Obama (this statement is just a guess and does not necessarily have a basis in reality; however, I'd be extremely surprised if the opposite is true). His heritage? He's a Christian who was openly admits that his mother wanted him to decide on his own as far as religion goes. He was far too young to be seriously influenced by any supposed terrorist-extremism that went on at schools he went to in Indonesia.
I know that there are far too many idiots in America who will blindly believe anything that Fox News says, and that's why I hope that this current smearing will fade away in the memories of these bigots.. because I don't think there's going to be a whole lot more to smear him with in the future. - garg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I wish the majority of Americans would just swiftly move to condemn all sort of mud slinging in our politics. It's a major distraction from the democratic process and must not be tolerated.
Instead people change the channel to listen to the stupid gossip. What a waste.
Unfortunately, it seems as if the biggest things on people's minds when they are voting are:
"is he gay or not?"
"does support gays or not?"
"Is he christian enough?"
"Is he white or colored?"
"Is he a man?"
Sad. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+18Yes, blame America for all of the world's problem. Idiot.
- sloof70, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14FearlessFreep, try finding an atheist presidential candidate that has a chance. I dare you.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15There are also many terrorists that aren't Muslims.
- GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Seriously.
In the video, it says that going to a Madrassa makes Obama hate the west and be a possible terrorist. That is like saying going to sunday school means you are going to bring back the crusades. It is *just* a school, sure there is an anti-American slant, but are you saying that there is no anti-Muslim slant in American schools thesedays? Two of my friends went to Madrassas, they aren't anti-American terrorists who are planning on decapitating me. - catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8When "Madrassa" is used by an english speaking person, it means islamic school. Otherwise they would just say "school" if they were referring to the secular institution.
- canadianguy33, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I guess you didn't read the article or see that particular news segment.
FTA:
"The article, bearing the headline "Hillary's team has questions about Obama's Muslim background," asserted that "researchers connected to Senator Clinton" disclosed the "details of Mr. Obama's Muslim past." Despite acknowledging near the end of his show that it "[d]oesn't seem" that "Hillary's fingerprints [are] on the story," Gibson said earlier in that program that "[t]he New York senator has reportedly outed Obama's madrassa past." - DeathBorn, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Who cares if Obama is Muslim or went to a religious school? It's not like he's going to suicide bomb the White House if he becomes president. If he's a politician he must at least be a little trustworthy. In fact there are millions of Muslims who are not terrorists >_>
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11The whole media situation in the US is a joke. Impartial my ass... the sad thing is that YOUR media is also the rest of the worlds, courtesy of the big networks...
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Plus Madrassa makes it sound evil and gives Fox News watchers erections.
- thadiusdean, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Except he's not Muslim...
- dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8This reply echos exactly how spaced out people such as your self are to the real world.
- DougO, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9please send me a picture of your tinfoil hat - it must be HUGE!
- picardo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"is it really outside the realm of possibility that Hillary's folks planted this on right wing radio in hopes of discrediting Obama in the eyes of the big fish donors they're competing for?"
In a word? Yes. In two words, heck yeah. Don't be fooled. This is just by the books political mudslinging. More to come.. - leokeren, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I am an Indonesian, and the funniest thing about that article is that its mention that your intelligence believes most of our school is funded by the Saudis. Seriously? you really need a better intelligence body then. Maybe they spent to much time wiretapping unimportant conversation, they are confusing gossip with reality. Let me set this straight. SAUDIS. DON'T. GIVE. A. *****. ABOUT. INDONESIA.
they really don't. They don't even care when something like the tsunami occurs (well, to be fair, they sent $1 million for formality..), so why should they care about our education system?
And as far as I know, you don't need to be a Muslim to enter a madrassa. Not like I will send my son there, but still...
nonetheless, I still believe that this might be another of the republican dirty tactic. They know with their current reputation they can't win against the democrats so they try to break them into faction. Let them kill each other. Pure genius...
2008 will be interesting.... - DougO, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4GrizzWolf: One word dude - "decaf"
- GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@faskippy
Once again, "anti-American" slant doesn't equal "Death to Americans". American history classes glance over a lot of mistakes that America made. If you are in a Madrassa, the teachers are not American so they might have no problem spending a week teaching American-Indian massacres, small pox blankets, follys of the Vietnam war etc. They *AREN'T* terrorist training camps like Fox news implies, rather schools where the teachers have no shame talking about mistakes made by America. - shad0w, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I'm gonna flip a ***** if someone says "fanboy" one more time. Fanboys are for videogames, not politics.
- DyDx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I see nothing particularly shady about this land deal. Obama has been friends with Rezko since 1990 and he bought land off of him only to increase the size of property that Obama already owned. Yea, he did it while Rezko was being investigated and maybe that wasn't the smartest idea, but I think to call it "shady" is misleading. Bad idea, yes, but to try to say there was something actually wrong with it is silly.
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@xarc13: I'm not blaming America (you idiot), I'm blaming the news corporations. Read my post.
- supersirj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Some people are really ignorant. I went to a madrassa, as I am Muslim. A madrassa is not a place that preaches terrorism. It simply means "school" in Arabic and teaches how to read Quran.
- roguenine2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i wonder what would happen to a candidate that refused to run attack ads and just talked about his own agenda? i suspect he would be eaten alive, but i also think that people are so fed up they may respond to it.
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I agree... if Christians go to Bible camp, does that make them terrorists? Again... the Media is so lopsided.
- richpav, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Interesting list. Goes to show you that some people will believe anything. Snopes has a good summary.
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/clinton.asp
"We shouldn't have to tell anyone not to believe this claptrap, but we will anyway. In a frenzied media climate where the Chief Executive couldn't boff a White House intern without the whole world finding out every niggling detail of each encounter and demanding his removal from office, are we seriously to believe the same man had been having double handfuls of detractors and former friends murdered with impunity?
"Don't be swayed by the number of names listed on screeds like this. Any public figure is bound to have a much wider circle of acquaintance than an ordinary citizen would. Moreover, the acquaintance is often one-sided — though many of the people enumerated on this list might properly claim to have known Clinton, he wouldn't know or remember having met a great number of them.
"Body count" lists are not a new phenomenon. Lists documenting all the allegedly "suspicious" deaths of persons connected with the assassination of John F. Kennedy have been circulating for decades, and the same techniques used to create and spread the JFK lists have been employed in the Clinton version" - KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Wait, it could be: Right Wing is out to bash Clinton by setting up Obama bashes, and then blaming it on her. Genius!
- alexthemonster, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8You gotta be ***** kidding me.
Fox News, a channel that is actually not built around reporting the news but instead editorializing and speculating on the news (belligerently, I might add), is flatly accusing someone else of releasing information on a story they themselves broke. This, this channel that already insisted for the past month on referring to the junior senator from Illinois as Barack HUSSEIN Obama in most of their reports. And they expect me to listen to their citing of a Moonie website to reveal the true source of this asinine finger-pointing.
And then they have the gall to spout, with smugly self-assured grins, "Last time I checked, there's a freedom of religion in this country." After they were blowing their goddamn stacks about Keith Ellison taking his Oath of Office on a Qu'ran.
My mind is ***** blown. - Eyeooga, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5fanboy fanboy fanboy fanboy fanboy.
(please post picture of you flipping a ***** - that should be interesting)
:p - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You'd rather vote for Pastor Ted Haggard the meth-slamming *****.
- avidlinuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@hiscity
First, Ted Haggard was brought up because he is a huge Republican donor. He also publicly denounced homosexuality and abortion. Yet, it turns out he is a drug addict as well as a closet homosexual.
Second, just because a person has a different interpretation of the Bible than you does not mean they are not a Christian. That means they have a different interpretation of the text. The fact is that if all Christian churches were the same there would not be more than one denomination. When you stop with your holier-than-thou attitude, you to may one day be a Christian. Until then, keep casting those stones. - LadyBeGood, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Hillary will stick the long knives into Obama's back while smiling and shakaing his hand.

5. Steve Irwin (that was no ***** stingray!)
Seriously dude, you're a moron.
@DougO---Funny! - deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The reason why Fox News plays this up is because it gives their small minded viewers something to chew on. And the Republicans are notorious for this type of *****. They use ***** polarizing issues like Gay marriage amendments, abortion, etc. and yet do nothing about them. And they never will, because as long as they are out there. The Republicans can use it to energize their base.
Funny thing, here on Digg a couple of days ago, there was a digg on how Fox was talking about Obama and the madrasas. Now Fox News is trying to pin it on Hillary Clinton, even though they admit that Hillary has nothing to do with this. Fox News is pathetic and desperate to create conflict among Democrats. The problem that they have is that your average Democrat isn't like your simple minded Fox News viewer. This ***** may work on their viewers but Democrats see right through this *****. All that is going to happen is that their sheep will re-puking their claims.
A sheep will always be a sheep.
Fox News should changer their name to the Hoax News Channel. - Crossmenjeff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4the perfect presidential candidate will never be elected. It's one of those accepted political science truths. people will elect someone who they "know", who stays clear of tough decisions as politicians, that works to earn them benefits rather than making laws.
- pauliewoll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Smears, schmears.
Politician with eye on the top job trashes other politician with eye on said top job. This sort of thing was going on before the pharaohs' time. - milarepa, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8can you just shut up already?
