- Ouze, on 01/04/2009, -25/+89After the last administration, I appreciate a man with the integrity to immediately resign when even the first whiffs of corruption come near him.
Of course, the integrity to not be a corrupt politician is more appreciated, if only for it's rarity in any party. - thx0138, on 01/04/2009, -5/+48People should really read the article before commenting.
- novenator, on 01/04/2009, -15/+52I was going to say, "incoming wingnut flames in 5...4...3...2...1..." but I see they beat me to it.
Interesting how they pounce all over something like this, when there is nothing but a hint that someone, somewhere *might* misread the situation as corruption. Richards decides against being Sec. of Commerce just in case, but the right wing is pouncing all over this. When will they learn their divisive ways are irrelevant?
Edit, since I first wrote this, the counts have shifted on this thread. The wingnut hordes have arrived! - SWQ87, on 01/04/2009, -20/+56I'm feeling a lot of negativity coming from the comments.... I respect the guy for pulling himself out, unlike some other politicians I've seen in the last eight years
- Ouze, on 01/04/2009, -24/+52No matter how hard he tries, the last 2 major elections show how increasingly irrelevant Matt Drudge is, and has been, for nearly a decade.
- ha3er0, on 06/16/2009, -11/+38I think the "scandal" would be if Richardson still stayed on with Obama's support after the recent finding about him.
- akchrs, on 01/04/2009, -7/+34Maybe he'll replace him with Edwards, at least he's not corru...... never mind.
- idoj, on 01/04/2009, -4/+29Yes, it did. Read the article again.
"He is one of the most prominent Hispanics in the Democratic Party, having served in Congress and as President Bill Clinton's ambassador to the United Nations and energy secretary. As governor, he has kept up an international profile with a specialty in dealing with rogue nations. Obama also considered him to be secretary of state." - CeltiCowboy, on 01/04/2009, -7/+31Howabout waiting until this very effective and honest Governor continue in his job until he is actually shown to have committed offenses?
- Shabrainiac, on 01/04/2009, -13/+37Hes being replaced with Ron Paul
- crashryan, on 01/04/2009, -6/+28what the heck!??! crazy!
- LurkerSteve2, on 01/04/2009, -2/+19He's not resigning as Governor.
- ingodwerefucked, on 01/04/2009, -8/+23haha yea right. paul wouldn't touch obama's economic policy with a ten foot pole.
- jfreeman, on 01/04/2009, -6/+20Integrity = stepping down when you're caught?
- hc1153, on 01/04/2009, -7/+21I'm going to not talk ***** about Richardson until the grand jury says something, considering all the good he has accomplished. Only a biased moron would pounce on this as "evidence for blah".
That being said, if the grand jury does come up with a guilty verdict, Richardson can go ***** himself. - Leviathan433, on 01/04/2009, -4/+18It is getting hard to find an uncorrupt politician on either side of the isle anymore...
- Ouze, on 01/04/2009, -11/+24yeah, that guilt by association tactic worked out pretty well in the last election, with jeremiah wright and bill ayers, better keep using it
- redwolfwalker, on 01/04/2009, -22/+35Like him or not, I think it is a smart move, hope he resigns as governor as well and lets the Lt. Gov. get a shot at running NM
- ArielMT, on 01/04/2009, -9/+22Did you believe Gov. Richardson when he said he wouldn't run for President during the last gubernatorial election? That's the promise he campaigned on, and the idiots here who bothered to vote in the mid-term election swallowed it, hook, line, and sinker.
Richardson's a power-hungry politician first, and he's as easily corruptible (if not already corrupted) as former NM Senate kingpin Manny Aragon. - edyang, on 01/04/2009, -11/+23Hm, by "irrelevant" you mean one of the top trafficked sites on the Internet?
- mikesly, on 01/04/2009, -4/+16It says Democratic at least 3 times.
- DigitalisAkujin, on 01/04/2009, -8/+20He resigned because the Senate Confirmation Hearing for him was postponed due to the FBI not being able to provide a report yet (since it was still in the middle of investigation). Nothing was filed and no proof of guilt has ever been provided however because our economy is in the tank right now he couldn't delay the appointment and choose to resign instead of having Obama wait for his pick as Commerce Secretary to be appointed when his Commerce Secretary should already be working.
Have fun coming up with conspiracy theories ;) - georgemason01, on 01/04/2009, -0/+11I only come here for the comments, so I'm relying on you guys to give me a totally accurate account of what happened. Don't worry, I trust diggers to be completely fair and unbiased when having a discussion about politics.
- devomedes, on 01/04/2009, -6/+17That's 'hear,' buddy.
- edyang, on 01/04/2009, -3/+14You do know that the Drudge Report just links to third party sites right?
- swik, on 01/04/2009, -6/+17Not saying that he is related to any of these scandals, but seriously, how many of these types of scandals would there have to be before his credibility is tainted? He's not even in office yet :/
- dalittle, on 01/04/2009, -6/+17Maybe right wing christian extremists only read what they want so they have something to complain about.
- FearlessFreep, on 01/04/2009, -5/+15This connection was known about quite awhile ago. This is not "integrity to immediately resign when even the first whiffs of corruption come near him. "
- untreadatom, on 01/04/2009, -2/+12I am no right wing nut, but have to disagree with you about how people "might" misread this as corruption. The allegations are corruption accusations. There really is no way to dismiss this. Him stepping down from Sec. of Commerce was a move to save Mr. O a hassle. If misdeeds are found to have taken place, Richardson needs to step down as Gov.
- lolwutpear, on 01/04/2009, -7/+17Politicians Digg likes are allowed to break the law, right?
- Dorian822, on 01/04/2009, -7/+17I know this is a bias comment but it bothers me that in this man's case, he was possibly "caught" and he resigned. Yet the worst corruption of all at the highest levels virtually admit to defying our constitutional laws and ethics and continue to act in office to their "final days." There's just something bitterly wrong about that.
- mattmollysdad, on 01/04/2009, -5/+14 Hill n Bill probably dropped the dime on him. Now he can grow his beard back.
- broncoelway, on 01/04/2009, -2/+11Damn. Good thing they didn't pick him as VP!
- novenator, on 01/04/2009, -4/+13very mature moose, typical of the caliber of your comments
- temsi, on 01/04/2009, -6/+15The spin is in the headline.
- LurkerSteve2, on 01/04/2009, -21/+30Well, this is not a CHANGE.
- thetedster180, on 01/04/2009, -3/+11Yeah not really. There is a section in the constitution that says it is the govts responsibility to provide essential services
- rotundo, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8Sad but true -- that's how far off track we are. We have brazen politicians like Blagojevich who won't even step down when they're caught red handed.
- lovek, on 01/04/2009, -3/+11I'm sorry... were charges filed? I must have missed that in the story.
- temsi, on 01/04/2009, -2/+9A grand jury doesn't decide guilt or innocence, it decides whether or not there is enough evidence for a trial.
And even if the grand jury decides there is, the evidence may still not be enough to convict.
The fact that Governor Richardson withdrew speaks volumes about his character and makes me believe he will in fact be cleared by the grand jury.
Facing the music is the most honest way and it's also the best PR move. - thelastcivilian, on 01/04/2009, -18/+25Man, I love this "associated with" spin. My grandfather fought in a war in which Nazis also fought. I guess that makes him responsible for gassing Jews. (Apologies for invoking Godwin's Law).
The Grand Jury news came out December 18, fifteen days after Obama nominated him. All this proves is that Obama is not omniscient (slightly disappointing). - untreadatom, on 01/04/2009, -0/+7how are the two connected? and is [1][2]- where you cut and pasted from some wiki site? sounds like you might be living in wiki-reality.
- belcorriko, on 01/04/2009, -5/+12Please... learn to spell.
- tenrec, on 01/04/2009, -4/+11Jump under the bus or wait to be pushed? He did the honorable/convenient thing. Obama apointees should all take note.
- Dysarthria, on 01/04/2009, -18/+24Whats to spin? He citing the same article you are. Its a corruption charge, plain and simple.
- novenator, on 01/04/2009, -9/+15just go back to listening to your copy of the magic negro fartcloud
- wardawg31, on 01/05/2009, -3/+9Do you mean Blagojevich or Richardson?
- Stryder81, on 01/04/2009, -9/+15It's one thing when you are elected and then get involved in controversy but alot of the people Obama's has associated with are caught before even coming into a position, or maybe in position like Blagojevic.
*Thumbs Up* - hc1153, on 01/04/2009, -0/+6Ah, yeah, my bad on the grand jury procedure. Slipped my mind.
