- actorboy, on 04/29/2008, -3/+220Oh my god, I can see her back!
Seriously people, there are a lot more bad role models out there to be up in arms about. This is an artistic shot. Get pissed off about Paris, Lindsay, and Britney if you want point to someone who is greatly damaging the idea of how young girls should present themselves. - imacommi, on 04/29/2008, -4/+190Is it just me or does she look like crap in this picture?
- EatingPie, on 04/29/2008, -5/+166This "scandal" was pretty much manufactured by Entertainment Tonight, who referred to them as "Topless." They then edited the images to show the shoulders up, which carried the implication that Miley was naked and the rest couldn't be show on TV. Unfortunately, the majority of sites caught ET's sensationalism and even uses their edited pictures. Fortunately, the New York Times used the original image, which, actorboy points out, ONLY shows her back.
I don't think Miley looks sexually provocative or erotic, though I would *not* call them devoid of sexuality. Which is what I find them striking, compelling, thought provoking... The muted colors, and her questioning gaze, her not-quite smile is interesting. Does this represent her coming of age? Wondering about her future in an over-sexualized society? Or maybe she is using the sheet, protecting herself from a culture that over-emphasizes sex, protecting herself from the path that, say, Britney Spears embraced and followed?
This is why I find the images more than appropriate. They are not *sexy*, but they are art. They are thoughtful, not porno. And I would have no problem showing them to my nine-year-old and asking what she thinks.
But if you disagree and think Miley is being a bad role model, TELL YOUR KIDS! Miley Cyrus, like so many other stars before her, has been put up on a pedestal by parents and kids alike, and the only thing she can do from there is fall. Before that happens, remind yourselves, and remind your kids, that Miley is just as human as the rest of us.

- cnot3, on 04/29/2008, -0/+78If thats pornography, then our public schools are ***** titty bars.
- Awspire, on 04/29/2008, -0/+43You people really need to understand how the American media and entertainment industry operates.
This is basically a "coming out" photo op. It's obvious that Cyrus’s management team are preparing her to transition to appeal to a more mature audience, or at least what they think is mature. Take notice how the media keeps referring to her by her real last name, Cyrus, instead of her child star stage name, Hannah Montana. That’s an indicator they’re planning to break her away from her child star character and most likely transform her into a Britney type performer. This is a big money act, and Cyrus is nothing but a meal ticket being exploited for all that can be extracted, sold to the highest bidder.
The apology Cyrus made was so transparent, and the BS story that her parents had no knowledge of the shoot is nothing more than a cover to keep her current fan base from boycotting her act, or breaking any current contract agreements.
Everyone makes out like a bandit from this photo op. Cyrus gains more popularity and starts her transition, Vanity Fair will sell thousands more magazines to the closet pedo’s and get huge hits on their web site, and Leibovitz gets more attention from her ***** art, which is nothing more than controversy for profit. - GirlsCallMeMatt, on 04/29/2008, -1/+40oh *****! I can see her backside...honestly, who gives a *****
this is the ***** reason why America is going straight to *****. This is ***** news? God ***** forbid that people read about the political platforms of the presidential nominees...god forbid that people read about the genocides happening in Africa...god forbid the people knowing about how ***** up our economy is going to be when the Babyboomers enter a health care system that is not ready for them.
NOO, lets all read about how some dumbass bitch poses BARELY exposed for a godammed magazine. YEAH thats ***** news, thats what we want to read about.
I'm moving to Switzerland - B3000, on 04/29/2008, -3/+41It's not ***** topless. She's covered. You can see her back and shoulders. BFD. Go to the beach - there are 10 year olds running around in way less. In public! Will the shock and horror never end? This whole thing is just so much BS. I'm not a fan but I do feel sorry for her that she's being raked over the coals for something as lame as this.
- kotrin, on 04/29/2008, -0/+36There's probably 2 Hannah Montana fans who read Vanity Fair...
- PoopOnPaul, on 04/29/2008, -1/+36"“Bonfire anyone?” wrote Lin Burress on her marriage and parenting blog, Telling It Like It Is, referring to the mountain of Hannah Montana retail items — makeup, shoes, clothes — in the marketplace. “Parents should be extremely concerned,” Ms. Burress said in an interview. “Very young girls look up to Miley Cyrus as a role model.”"
Seriously, people like that shouldn't be allowed to raise children. - Drahkar, on 04/29/2008, -2/+34That was the first thing to come to mind when I saw it. It is definitely an artsy style photo. But it also makes her look horrible. She looks sick to be honest.
- lordshank, on 04/29/2008, -0/+32To hell with this *****. If people want to waste their time worrying about what their children's idols do, and how it will effect the kid's development, then maybe they should have spent more time parenting instead of camping their love fruit in front of an idiot box.
- dinobot, on 04/29/2008, -1/+32A. I sure hope so
- AtiimKiambu, on 04/29/2008, -1/+29This is so stupid. I remember a while back, there were pictures of her in a bra, or showing her bra or something like that, and again the media went insane. This one picture is not going to ruin Hannah Montana. In case you haven't noticed, the tickets for the concerts are still like two thousand dollars a piece.
- toastgodsupreme, on 04/29/2008, -2/+30I had no idea who she was so I had to google image search her. This doesn't look anything like her really. And yeah, she does look like crap in this photo. Did she just get her wisdom teeth pulled or something?
- Zlorp, on 04/29/2008, -7/+33why are people freaking out over this? ***** this stupid, ignorant ass country.
- pamon, on 04/29/2008, -1/+27i've seen 13-14 yr old girls showing more ***** than this just walking around at a mall. not a hannah montana fan, but whatever... she posed by choice and art... get over it...
- MrTito, on 04/29/2008, -0/+26It was the eary 90's. We're still not sure what actually happened. Half of the country was in rehab from the crazy partying of the 80's. George Bush was president, following a charismatically popular two-term president of a previous decade. There was turmoil in the Middle East centering around this country a lot of us couldn't find on a map called "Iraq". The economy was going through a post-war crunch. Jobs were going overseas, immigration was on the rise. There was great racial tension in the country after the Rodney King beating and trial that followed. And a heated presidential campaign was underway, featuring a man who wanted to change Washington and end those divisive days to bring us together.
It was a crazy time. Nothing like today, of course. - indiancompanion, on 04/29/2008, -0/+25Is it just me, or is this not as big a deal as people make it out to be
- bicyclethief, on 04/29/2008, -3/+28How did a seed of Billy Ray Cyrus even get to be this successful anyways? It boggles the mind.
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -7/+31god she is really ugly in that picture, wtf
and who cares what she does
and lastly who ***** watches hanna montana - CCflipside, on 04/29/2008, -0/+22Oh man, South Park was right on, Miley Cyrus is next on the public's hit list!
Oh well, at least we'll be getting plenty of corn out of this... - Soave, on 04/29/2008, -0/+22She looks like the girl from The Ring.
- fadeout, on 04/29/2008, -0/+21It's ***** pathetic that seeing the exposed back of a teen starlet is biggers news in this country than everything going on in Iraq, Afghanistan, Zimbabew, Mozambique, etc...
- Soave, on 04/29/2008, -0/+21"/sarc" because you actually just stayed on your computer like everyone else here. Sigh.
- slayernine, on 04/29/2008, -0/+20Why can't we get over the whole sex & nudity taboo. Our culture over-reacts to even mildly suggestive images but violence continues to be labeled as acceptable. Not saying that you should start showing your children movies with excessive nudity & sex but don't make them think it is something evil that should never happen.
- lovecss, on 04/29/2008, -0/+20Pics or it didn't happen
- Drahkar, on 04/29/2008, -1/+20Additionally, I find the idea of building an 'industry' off a kid to be ravingly stupid. Not to mention on that depends on them being pure and innocent. Like it or not the kid is going to grow up and part of that is developing a sexual identity. It just happens. The fact is that while we as a people like to treat 15/16 year olds as children, the body doesn't pay attention to social restrictions and cultural requirements. When it reaches a certain point its going to start pushing those buttons and the person is going to change. There is no way to stop it and the idea that people make an industry that hinges on it not happening just seems stupid to me.
- novask, on 04/29/2008, -2/+21I certainly hope she is never seen wearing a bikini until she turns 18. I mean thats like wearing only underwear and a bra in public.
- BGog, on 04/29/2008, -2/+20Are you really that stupid. 12 year olds wear less in public every time they go swimming. Good lord, are you amish?
- nursethalia, on 04/29/2008, -1/+18I've seen pictures of her wearing shirts and dresses that bare more of her skin than that, and no one ever felt the need to apologize then. Still, if she and her parents are all going to throw a fit, then why not have done it earlier? Her parents were only on the set all day while the photos are being taken. Manipulated? Shmanipulated. No one was holding a gun to her head and forcing her to pose for that shot.
- actorboy, on 04/29/2008, -0/+17You don't even have to click, just look at the guys history. There's no sex tape on the other end of that link, just a virus disguised as a plugin. Consider him buried, blocked and reported.
- Lanlost, on 04/29/2008, -2/+19She doesn't look amazing in the photo..
.. but the photo is nicely done.
Shouldn't they be more worried about this?
http://www.hfxnews.ca/photos/TheDailyNews/editor/I ...
That was the third result in Google Images for Miley Cyrus. If that's her then people need to calm down about this and ask if it's right that THAT picture is online.
Sure, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan have pictures like this.. I would expect that. I'm just saying, people are so worried that girls look up to Miley Cyrus but keep in mind that Miley Cyrus looks up to someone as well and judging from that link it's the party style "I'm so cool" "I'll put my middle fingers up to show how cool I am" kind of 'adult.' - bugmenot47, on 04/29/2008, -2/+18thats exactly what i thought word for word when saw the pic
- darthbator, on 04/29/2008, -1/+16This is ridiculous to me. There is nothing overtly sexual going on in this image that wasn't already being implied in her performances (like what I hear she did on American idol). I will admit if that was my daughter I wouldn't exactly be happy about it but there's nothing "evil" or "wrong" going on.
- indiancompanion, on 04/29/2008, -0/+14its what south park predicted on the one Britney Spears episode. Gotta get ready for harvest time
- Failchan, on 04/29/2008, -0/+13Many teenage girls take photos like that, generally to post on Myspace. I guess that's because it's not such a big deal any more. One hundred years ago, it was considered vulgar to show your bare legs in public.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 04/29/2008, -2/+14Click the article and the *picture* is right there.
- floorman56, on 04/29/2008, -2/+14Please have a seat over there.
- csrster, on 04/29/2008, -2/+13Good point. My kids were watching Hannah Montana last night and I'd swear blind she was stark naked under he clothes!
- sjinadasa, on 04/29/2008, -1/+12Who or what the ***** is hanna montana ?
- raid517, on 04/29/2008, -1/+12She looks like a heroin addict in withdrawal.
- Tyrghast, on 04/29/2008, -1/+11Wait wait wait... are you implying that is a bad thing?
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -3/+13Do I smell a Britney Spears II?
"Oh she's a role model"
"Oh she's hot"
"Oh she's naked"
"Oh she's gone off the deep end"
"Oh she's in rehab, has 2 kids and is now washed up" - MrRad, on 04/29/2008, -2/+12A) The picture is in the article
B) 15... - theholyraptor, on 04/29/2008, -1/+10How dare a woman possibly provide a tasteful picture that doesn't actually show anything? This image is just as likely to make some girl feel comfortable about her body and not compare herself to a twig, as cause girls to become whores. (Though I thought the pic wasn't very attractive... the best shot you could get of her? Honestly?)
I'd like to see parents stand up against the Libby Lui stores I've seen in malls that encourage 5 year olds to wear more makeup then a television personality. - ByteGuerilla, on 04/29/2008, -0/+9Disregard that, ***** etc.
The blog comments have been set to moderated. Evidently Lin is happy with her corner of the Internet for her own free speech, but isn't interested in any dissenting opinion. - centerblack, on 04/29/2008, -0/+9rofl. Love Fruit.
- greydonkey, on 04/29/2008, -1/+10She looks like she's just been boned senseless by John Holmes.
