- BeauXdidLeigH, on 10/12/2007, -6/+117What if she put "Peace on Earth and goodwill toward men" below the wreath?
I suppose they would probably lynch her.
... too many "christians", and not enough "followers of Christ", these days.
Pray for the "lost" sheep this Christmas. - slugicide, on 10/12/2007, -6/+103Peace on earth *and* goodwill toward men? You liberals are crazy!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+78As another poster said, since when did a wish for peace become such a contentious, partisan issue?
Well, I guess we've seen some true colors now. - gronne, on 10/12/2007, -3/+69This is the associations webpage:

264-6966 - shertzerj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+56Many years ago in my town here in PA a wealthy Muslim couple donated money for a statue of two white doves to be put in the front lawn of the elementary school. The backwards residents of my town thought it was offensive (they thought it had some kind of strong religious meaning or something) when it was just supposed to be something beautiful and something representing peace, and nearly got the whole thing cancelled. Bunch of damn idiots. I hate when people are too touchy over crap like that.
- xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45"Somebody could put up signs that say drop bombs on Iraq. If you let one go up you have to let them all go up,"
Isn't that the point of America? Whatever happened to Voltaire's thought that "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."?
I thought the purpose of this country was to allow everyone to voice their opinions... if I am mistaken I believe it may be time to move. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42I would like to donate so this homeowner can pay their fine...
- BritishGolgo13, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44"It is impossible to simultaneously support the Iraq war and believe in peace as a virtue."
You've never seen the movie Full Metal Jacket have you? The main character, Joker, a US Marine in Vietnam, wears a helmet that says "Born to Kill" and has a peace sign button on his uniform. When asked what it means, he responded with "the duality of man". - seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41the terrorists have won. they hated our freedom, bombed us, and now we have given up.
- MikeMacMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31This comment says it all:
2. UmberGryphon
The 5 members of the architectural control committee agreed that it was OK, so he fired them all? That's not a homeowners' association, that's a dictatorship. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32So which is it? Anti-iraq war or Sign of Satan?
Or are they both the same? - mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26well, if wanting peace makes you a satanist, then call me a satanist...
- blahblah, on 10/12/2007, -13/+36It is impossible to simultaneously support the Iraq war and believe in peace as a virtue. Since so many are so brainwashed into thinking that Bush's actions shall not be questioned (when in fact invading Iraq was an immoral action), they are unable to reconcile the contradiction, and become petulant and confrontational whenever someone or something reminds them of the fact that they have abandoned what Jesus came to teach.

(im not sure of the area code, but i'm sure it wont be too hard to find out) - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I remember my Sunday School teacher tried to explain that the piece sign is really just an upside down cross and that we should all only use the dove instead. I then proceeded to make fun of him on the drive home.
The homeowners associations' excuse was pretty damn hilarious. How is the peace sign "OFFENSIVE?" Is it offensive to want peace? That's like having a sign that says "Give to the poor" and offending rich people who don't want to give money away. - venicerocco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25So a sign the represents us NOT killing others is a) offensive to Christians and b) a symbol of Satan? What has happened to us? (them)
- bdrydyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Please pay me $5 a day until you take back your message of goodwill!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23She shouldn't HAVE to pay the fine though. That'd just be giving in to the illogicalness.
- gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20You must understand that the altitude in Colorado can cause a kind of right wing nut psychosis from oxygen starvation to the brain. It seems the higher people move into the foothills and mountains the more insane they become.

Yeah. They really look like a bunch of satanists to me. - zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Genius. We kill all the violent people and there will be peace forever!
Wait... - milarepa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19@ 12_CHARS: you really bitch about anything don't you?
- krached, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Contracts that force a person to give up their freedom of religion and freedom of speech with respect to housing are generally held invalid. There is a 1948 Supreme Court case concerning this issue in relation to covenants not to allow black people to purchase the home. The house is in St. Louis and the court struck down the covenant. I am somewhat surprised the association complained that it was a symbol of Satan as it opens up the religion question.

- Falldog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14If I ever end up living in a development that has stupid rules on what I can and can't do to my house, please shoot me.
- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13you're right, aesthetics has no place in schools. in fact, why do they even teach art. nobody grows up to be an artist anyway. even if they did, it wouldn't be by making paper mache elephants and learning about the Renaissance. The Renaissance was stupid anyway, they shouldn't be wasting their time learning about that, or the people involved since they're all dead anyway and have no bearing on our lives today. Also, the ideas they came up with are outdated and you can't really put them in a multiple choice test so they should probably be left out of the curriculum as well.
anyway, 12, you're a moron, a well intentioned moron, but still a moron.
yes, they need books to feed their minds but they need art to feed their souls. - Gustomucho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13America reaches new low.

I wonder what will Miss America will say to win this year :

Everywhere I look I see the characters from the history books I read. They're all around us. Not just the main characters- but the supporting casts. The principal of the Maoist school. The Gestapo secret police officer. The holy crusader clutching his sword hilt. The slave trader. The everyday average ones who make it all possible. It's hard to spot them now, but they're all there. Next to us at work, on the bus, at school... they're just waiting for someone to issue them their uniforms. - everfalling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12so much for 'peace on earth and good will towards men'

Wrong.....
It was a symbol created for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. It consists
of two semaphoric (optical telegraphy with flags) symbols. The one for N which is arms outstretched at the 8 and 4 positions. The second is D which is arms in the 12 and 6 positions, respectively. - archerx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Some people seriously need to be shot... I mean they don't really want peace anyway.

*looks for phone bomb Digg post...* - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11... someone send Lisa a copy of the Supreme Court decision City of Ladue v. Gilleo, 512 U.S. 43 (1994).
In Gilleo, the Court struck down as unconstitutional an ordinance that prohibited homeowners from putting up signs on their own property - Gilleo in particular put up a sign that advocated opposition to the Gulf War.
Bob Kearns doesn't stand a chance. - webphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Well I'm pretty sure they didn't have a peace sign on the side of the gas chambers in Nazi Germany. Just a thought maybe the difference is the symbolism?
But the symbolism for a peace sign is pretty much universal: free will, freedom of speech etc.
You know, all that 'satanistic' stuff - tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10The area code is either 970.
This is near where I live in the South Denver area.
I saw it on our local news station, and my jaw dropped.
If I'm not mistaken this area of Colorado is predominately Evangelical or some form of über Christianity.
I should have the right to hang whatever the ***** I want on my door; be it a star of David, wreath, a 666 engraving, upside down cross, or a peace sign.

- InetRoadkill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yet another reason why you never, ever want to buy property with a mandatory home owner's association tied to it. HOAs are the devil's spawn. The worst busy-bodies a neighborhood has to offer end up on these things and they aren't satisfied unless they're making everyone's life miserable.
