- inactive, on 12/30/2008, -10/+228Pro Tip for the Republican party:
Calling the president-elect a Magic Negro, and then in another verse saying: "he makes guilty whites feel good", is NOT a recruiting plan for getting more minorities into the party. - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -13/+222You're a negro!
You're a homosexual deviant!
Go back to Mexico!
Hey, how come we lost the election? - inactive, on 12/30/2008, -6/+133So, of all the "gifts" he could give, THIS was what he thought RNC members would like the best.
Yeah, ok.... - apastafarian, on 12/31/2008, -14/+127If you thought the CD was amusing, wait till you see the cross burning parody DVD he's sending out for Kwanzaa, it's hilarious.
Republicans, don't worry. Someday you'll look back at this time and laugh, just like those in the Federalist, Whig and Know-Nothing parties. - blyrehs, on 12/30/2008, -3/+97Nor for getting the moderates to return.
- kismetropolis, on 12/30/2008, -23/+109...riiiiiight. using the term "negro" wasn't racist. We're all just overreacting. Because it was a joke.
*wallhead wallhead wallhead*
Nope, even with impact injury to my head, I'm still not buying that. - michaelpinto, on 12/30/2008, -8/+94I miss the old days of the campaign where you'd throw someone under the bus and just move on! What a dumb distraction for Republicans...
- Phatlip012, on 12/31/2008, -7/+67Sweet, I'd like for the democrats to win in another 4 years too. Keep it up Republicans!
- DaDrake, on 12/31/2008, -9/+60As many have stated before, the song was written by a prominent satirist who actually made the lyrics from lines in an LA Times editorial in 2007 (which, was written by a well-known black editorial). The song was satire... it was mocking the "leftist media".... this is why leftist like Alan Colmes defend the making of the song (but not its distribution by political leaders). I personally don't care for satire.... but most people make the distinction between satire and racism. People recently called foul with the "Blind Governor" skit on SNL and the "Obama as a Terrorist" cover on the New Yorker. Yet... many democrats/leftist supported those publications because it was satire (and being pushed by groups who make nothing but satire).
So, the song being racist... I don't agree.
The song being distributed by a political leader is in bad taste..... I agree. - 7Wiseguy, on 12/31/2008, -3/+49"Voted for Obama" officially replaced the "I have black friends" line
- rlbond86, on 12/31/2008, -11/+55I'm waiting for some idiot to say "well it's his 1st amendment right!"
Yes, it is, but the 1st amendment doesn't say that you can say whatever you want and nobody can chastise your poor taste and call for the end of your campaign. - dronesixtyten, on 12/31/2008, -9/+52Racism. Yeah that's some real cutting-edge material for political satire.
- Dumbledorito, on 12/31/2008, -3/+42I dunno, macaca. It's a complete mystery to real Americans. Some guy was working on it, but we haven't heard a peep out of him after the press found him forwarding jokes he got from some officials in Alaska.
- inactive, on 12/31/2008, -6/+44As a black man I don't find "negro" racist per se, it's an outdated term but I'm just not offended by it. Maybe because my 91 year old grandfather still says negro and colored. I was once called a cute colored boy by an old white lady, I wasn't offended or felt she was being racist, she was extremely nice and just a product of her time. But please just stop being offended for black people, some of us are just too ***** tired being told we should be offended by every little thing.
- jer2eydevil88, on 12/31/2008, -6/+43These republicans miss the old days when they could throw a rope over a tree to put an end to an uppity "negro".
What a fantastic way to observe the Bush years come to an end! Keep it up GOP I know at least another dozen fools nationwide who would still vote for George Wallace!!! Go on and support the ideals of your base! - LondonV, on 12/31/2008, -6/+41Hate only begets more hate, I'm tired of waiting for republicans to get educated.
- pintomp3, on 12/31/2008, -4/+36"People can make a ***** movie making fun of George Bush" not for being white, for being dumb.
- BradOFarrell, on 12/31/2008, -8/+36Bush poached all the the ivory and now the elephant is slowly bleeding to death.
- elipabst, on 12/31/2008, -2/+29and he cites a wikipedia page in his editorial which has this in the first paragraph:
"The word negro, now considered by many as archaic and offensive, is used intentionally to suggest that the archetype is a racist throwback, an update of the "Sambo" and "savage other" stereotypes."
So next time you're on a bus in the inner city, start calling everyone "negro" and let me know how that works out for you. You can even tell them that you heard it from a negro guy who works for the LA times, I'm sure they won't have a problem with it. - elipabst, on 12/31/2008, -4/+28Take your head out of your ass, the song is racist as hell whether it's about Obama, Sharpton or Buckwheat. I don't think anyone would give a ***** about a song that mocked Obama, but if you don't think the phrase "Barack the Magic Negro" might be racial offensive, then you need to get a clue.
- heynow21, on 12/31/2008, -4/+27It doesn't matter whether it's racist or not. Politically it's stupid and you walk away from it. The fact that they're not makes me laugh with glee.
- bungoman, on 12/31/2008, -2/+25holy *****. a common sense reply in a thread like this. you must be new here.
- Solacer, on 12/31/2008, -4/+26I guess this is all part of "re-structuring" and "re-branding" the Republican party.
- inactive, on 12/31/2008, -3/+23"*voted for obama"
Gonna love hearing that excuse for the rest of the century. - tinkafoo, on 12/31/2008, -13/+32And the rest of the country defends "RNC Is a Bunch of Racists" CD.
- MaxxusFlamus, on 12/31/2008, -1/+20While you're right that people should have a sense of humor-
The republican party isn't exactly a party known to be tolerant. They're left wondering how they got butchered in the election and can't seem to get a clue as to how to increase their base.
If they aren't willing to change their tone on something as minor as this- it means they probably won't change their stance on all the other awesome policies from the Bush administration either.
Also- they're politicians- not comedians. Every word a politician uses is dissected. They should know that. If they don't it just shows how retarded they are. - Antixian, on 12/31/2008, -3/+21over paid? no not really...professional athletes and actors are over paid.
- McNash, on 12/31/2008, -12/+30Not surprising, most of the RNC base is within the boundaries of the defunct confederate America.
- pintomp3, on 12/31/2008, -2/+19exactly. all the dixiecrats switched to the republican party after lbj signed the civil rights act. not to say that all republicans are racist, but it became one of the party planks.
- geodebug, on 12/31/2008, -4/+21Maybe the song is funny (haven't bothered to listen to it) and maybe it isn't overtly offensive, but....
Shouldn't we expect our leaders to be above being snickering, sophomoric goofballs? I mean, where is the professionalism? You'd never (I'd hope) see the head of a major corporation send out gifts that could upset its customers or employees. This isn't just about being PC, it is about representing what should be the best about your party.
If I was republican I'd be pissed off at these chuckleheads for damaging the party image. As a democrat all I can say is shine on you crazy bastards! - iceballz, on 12/31/2008, -3/+20You would think this would be a fire people would run away from, not jump into
- pintomp3, on 12/31/2008, -12/+29what's his next release? richardson the magic spic? lieberman the magic kike?
- azhura, on 12/31/2008, -3/+19It's not even funny anymore how stupid the Republican Party has become. It's like watching a train wreck, only the train continues to be rebuilt afterward and wrecked again over and over and over...
- xsmasher, on 12/31/2008, -4/+20That columnist didn't coin the term; it was around before Obama showed up on the national stage. He did use it as the basis for his editorial, which seems to chide white America for buying into the myth of the magic negro.
Yes, the song references the LA Times editorial. Does that mean the song isn't racist? No. That's like says "Snoop Dogg says *****, so I can say *****!" It doesn't work that way. - Locke23, on 12/31/2008, -0/+16@meeksam
Delphium is right.
and did you completely miss Time Magazine's picture collection of Barack Obama's "College Years?"
.... dumbass. - Delphium226, on 12/31/2008, -1/+17@meeksam
Parroting ***** makes parrot look stupid. - geodebug, on 12/31/2008, -0/+16premature failure: you were supposed to wait.
- ZeroCubed, on 12/31/2008, -2/+18My guess is that ya'll forgot to add in couple of insults. Maybe if you keep at it, people will start to hate Obama sometime soon.
- MaxxusFlamus, on 12/31/2008, -10/+25fill in the blank-
United _________ College Fund
Hint- the acronym is UNCF
Not that I'm defending the RNC. They're retarded- but let's not blow the word completely out proportion now....
Just a little bit of outrage. No need for a riot. - Locke23, on 12/31/2008, -0/+15@fabriciom.
So you're just gonna generalize every single black man in the world under one? If Barack Obama screws up, that doesn't mean that another black man isn't capable of running the U.S, that's like saying that because Bush is a *****-up we should never elect another president coming from Texas. If a candidate seems ready for the job, he will get my vote, no matter if he's from Texas, or black, or white, or yellow, or whatever other color.
What Barack Obama did is break the racial barrier, after him, the United States will no longer worry about race in a presidential election, and there will be many more black candidates, no matter how good (or bad) Obama does. - inactive, on 12/31/2008, -0/+15Where did I say the song was racist? I said exactly the opposite when this story first broke. I was one of the people saying it was satire, and getting dugg down for it.
I said it is STUPID for the REPUBLICAN PARTY to be promoting this. Can you get that, without veering down racial road? - 47f0, on 12/31/2008, -1/+14Hey, I've got an idea - you take your highly amusing "sense of humor" and go to Compton. Stand on any street corner, sing this song and make jokes about race. Then tell me how it went. Better yet, I'll just video the hilarity that ensues. But I'll be using a very, very long telephoto.
- NiftyG, on 12/31/2008, -4/+17I say more power to them... defend away... pretty soon that hole they're digging will be so deep you won't see them anymore.
- beatle42, on 12/31/2008, -1/+14@ricksite you might also want to brush up on yours, through the middle of the last century the Republicans seem to have lost their way on such things. Early on it was the dems, later (and seemingly through today) it's been the repubs
- alexacastro, on 12/31/2008, -4/+17Let them keep digging that hole. Hopefully the party splits up so we can FINALLY have more than 2 (major) parties to choose from, and maybe... hopefully... the idiots defending this will form their own party and finally be ignored like the racist scum they are.
- azhura, on 12/31/2008, -0/+13The term was intended to be satirical, but somehow I have a feeling that some Republicans take it seriously.
- dronesixtyten, on 12/31/2008, -0/+13bottle of wine? rolex? even a gift card would've trumped his choice.
- DoodleMaster, on 12/31/2008, -0/+12There's a difference between making fun of stereotypes and making fun of people, and the associating it with their ethnicity, race, skin color, or religion for that matter.
It's really not THAT hard to understand. - analogkid01, on 12/31/2008, -4/+16Yet another idiot who thinks that "freedom of speech" equates to "consequence-free speech."
- DangerCollie, on 12/31/2008, -1/+13You stay classy, Republicans.
