- kismetropolis, on 03/05/2009, -15/+328Like they said about the DHS and warrantless wiretapping:
"If you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to be afraid of."
Oh, irony. How lovely it is to see you. - novenator, on 03/06/2009, -15/+180Let's get one thing straight, this is NOT about revenge, this is about justice. If a Truth and Reconciliation seems too much for Hatch and the republicans, maybe they would be more agreeable to actual trials.
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), who used to chair the committee, called the notion of a truth commission an effort to "demonizing and criminalizing opponents." - Phylter, on 03/06/2009, -13/+127"Republicans Against Truth"? Say it ain't so Joe!!
- paintgrl, on 03/06/2009, -10/+121The issue should be handled by a special prosecuter in the Justice Department. This is a criminal issue.
- inactive, on 03/06/2009, -14/+114Ditch the Truth Commission idea altogether and issues summons to a Grand Jury.
There is more than enough evidence already declassified to arrest all of these bastards. - lynchjos, on 03/06/2009, -21/+101What the ***** do Republicans want with truth?
This is a no-brainer. - kmom5, on 03/06/2009, -12/+81I'm shocked.
- inactive, on 03/06/2009, -10/+69I'm going to die of not surprise.
- woodsjransom, on 03/06/2009, -11/+59While Senator John Cornyn offered the following statement:
"I oppose the creation of a so-called 'truth commission' because it is a redundant and politically divisive exercise that would distract the Executive, Congress, and the American people at a time when we should be focused on reinvigorating our economy and winning the war on terror. This roving, unaccountable inquisition into each and every grievance with a Bush Administration policy is a backward-looking proposition that is directly at odds with President Obama's stated goals of unity and moving forward.
Sheesh!!! and wrong. - agustawind, on 03/06/2009, -11/+52Just by the repugs response is a dead give away they're hiding sumtin'....there should definitely be a 'truth squad'.
- agustawind, on 03/06/2009, -3/+37Hope they adhere to a summons better than subpoenas!
- AaronCo, on 03/06/2009, -6/+38The commission would criminalize them?!? They were criminals long before the "truth commission." That's like blaming a doctor for giving someone diabetes because the doctor ordered a blood test.
- ontain, on 03/06/2009, -5/+32They wanted and got a commission to look into Clinton's love affairs but think crimes against civil liberties is too much?
- WeHopeRushFails, on 03/06/2009, -10/+36Because The Truth Shall Set You Free... Maybe...
- pacerx, on 03/06/2009, -2/+24The only difference is that these 'controversies' you're talking about were all completely fabricated by the far-right extremists. Like the rumor about Bill Clinton and drug trafficking at Arkansas airports. The whole thing was a complete fabrication from a neo-con think tank.
- PoizonFrog, on 03/06/2009, -4/+26R.A.T.
lol...I luv it - Echota, on 03/06/2009, -8/+29The Bushers say truth is good for you and me but not for them!
Ha! This further proves they are corrupt.
Crooks and liars! - Jlaugh, on 03/06/2009, -5/+25Outing a CIA officer is Treason. Getting a blowjob is no ones business. It's sad you can't see the difference in gravity between them.
- inactive, on 03/06/2009, -13/+32Republicans and truth = oxymoron...
- churler, on 03/06/2009, -1/+19I'm trying to decide whether you're a professional troll or if you're serious.
In either case, your little internet shifty faces cause me to completely disregard your arguments and giggle madly. - homercles337, on 03/06/2009, -2/+18I love when ***** politicians talk about "winning the war on terror." Why is it that we only hear this ignorant rhetoric from the right?
- LeftieLucy, on 03/06/2009, -5/+21FTA: "Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), who used to chair the committee, called the notion of a truth commission an effort to "demonizing and criminalizing opponents." "
Truth commisions don't "criminalize" anyone - people commit crimes, which may be discovered by a truth commission, but it's not the commision's fault. These people criminalize themselves. It's like saying that the courts criminalize murder by finding murderers guilty.
Truth commissions are as likely to let people off the hook as point the finger at them. - inactive, on 03/06/2009, -11/+26I agree with the Republicans on this one. We don't need a Truth Commission. We need criminal prosecutions.
- 3nder99, on 03/06/2009, -4/+19First off, I voted for Obama.
But please remind us all how most Democrats voted on those measures.......
I love how people point at one Republican when there are 40+ Democrats more responsible for blocking this legislation. Seriously, go see what Pelosi thinks. - GetItBuilt, on 03/06/2009, -9/+22The TRUTH shall set you free. Unless your a lying piece of *****, then it will lock your dumb ass up.
- chrism123, on 03/06/2009, -5/+18Note to submitter. These commisions are never "independent". If they are serious about holding the Bush admin. accountable they need to start prosecuting based on evidence that is already available. didn't we learn anything from the 9/11 commision? This thing is going to be a whitewash.
- Jlaugh, on 03/06/2009, -4/+17The Bush administration are criminals they get what they deserve.
- ApokalypseNow, on 03/06/2009, -0/+13There's no evidence for the 9/11 "truthers".
There is ample evidence of Bush having committed war crimes. - 3nder99, on 03/06/2009, -3/+15http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ...
"In September 2002, four members of Congress met in secret for a first look at a unique CIA program designed to wring vital information from reticent terrorism suspects in U.S. custody. For more than an hour, the bipartisan group, which included current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was given a virtual tour of the CIA's overseas detention sites and the harsh techniques interrogators had devised to try to make their prisoners talk.
Among the techniques described, said two officials present, was waterboarding, a practice that years later would be condemned as torture by Democrats and some Republicans on Capitol Hill. But on that day, no objections were raised. Instead, at least two lawmakers in the room asked the CIA to push harder, two U.S. officials said." - Jlaugh, on 03/06/2009, -4/+16Clinton didn't lie to congress he lied in a civil lawsuit where the opposing lawyer was on fishing expedition. Impeachment is also just an indictment, it means jack really. He was never tried by the Senate, and besides Bush wasn't even impeached for his far worse crimes.
- percussionking, on 03/06/2009, -4/+16Didn't Obama come out against it as well?
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/01/18/pe ... - JuanDCope, on 03/06/2009, -6/+18I'm thrilled Orrin Hatch is the senior Republican Senator. Maybe with some spot light we can finally get rid of the guy,
- Midtowner, on 03/06/2009, -0/+12Most states say it's illegal to wiretap.
A warrant would cure that, but if there's no warrant, then you have some problems. There are also a lot of laws about access to certain kinds of information. - ApokalypseNow, on 03/06/2009, -0/+12If you are a US Congressman, and you can't focus on more than one thing at once, maybe you shouldn't be a Congressman anymore.
- Jlaugh, on 03/06/2009, -2/+14But if there going to have drum trials in Washington they should look into the unpaid taxes of all the public officials in the current administration, and the congress and the senates collusion with the Bush administration.
- treehugger87, on 03/06/2009, -6/+17It would help if the Republicans would think of a truth commission as an opportunity to look forward instead of an opportunity to look back. Discovering the truth will prevent future Presidential power grabs as well
- mulock, on 03/06/2009, -2/+13Well the difference is, one was abusing executive power to hide truths from americans while the other was being claimed guilty by association. So one, did something wrong.... one was accused of paling around with someone wrong. Big diff. Funny how they will investigate a presidents cheating... but not a presidents treason/constitution destruction
- Waiting2awake, on 03/06/2009, -1/+12Not entirely true. The democrats could of tried to stop him. They could have attempted to oppose him. But they didn't. In fact, they mainly voted in line with him. Which is why so many people point out that you are living in a one party system.
- InetRoadkill, on 03/06/2009, -2/+13Now if Bush had gotten a blow job, Cornyn would be in favor of the commission.
- alecks, on 03/06/2009, -5/+15The constitution, americans, and our sense of justice would the winners
- Ryuzaki356647, on 03/06/2009, -0/+10Politicans and truth = oxymoron...
FTFY - seltaeb4, on 03/06/2009, -1/+11The right are the only ones ignorant enough to fall for it.
- inactive, on 03/06/2009, -3/+13Oh, so we should do what you wanna do and let war criminals get away with their crimes as long as they're Republican.
Oh, okay makes a lot of *****' sense. - ScienceDoc, on 03/06/2009, -13/+23The neocons cannot stand the light of day. They cannot stand the truth. They are all about lies and self-deception. Look at their supporters on Digg. They are some brainwashed, ignorant, morons.
- SOS84, on 03/06/2009, -6/+16The GOP are coming out against it because they know when the people see what the Bush dictatorship and its GOP enablers have done to this country, their party and anti-American ideology will die and quick and painful death.
- avianeddy, on 03/06/2009, -2/+12you're a troll AND a tool
congratulations!
you're a newly discovered species - 3nder99, on 03/06/2009, -2/+11You do understand its the Democrats who are responsible for blocking this and other efforts like it, right?
Sigh, no one ever takes the time to read past the partisan *****. - enantiodromia, on 03/06/2009, -4/+13"If you haven't done anything wrong, you have should have nothing to hide"
where have I been hearing this for the last 8 years... - 3nder99, on 03/06/2009, -2/+11I voted for Obama, but come on.
You do understand Democrats could push this through despite Republican opposition, right?
Why don't you go see what happened to all the other efforts like this one, it wasn't the Republicans who blocked them. It was Pelosi and the Democrats.
Yes inet, the truth does have a liberal bias in this case. - CaptOblivious, on 03/06/2009, -1/+10Do you think we should stop investigating and prosecuting bank robbers and murders because we are in an economic crisis?
Oh, you mean just not investigate and prosecute YOUR friends,
Here's an idea,
No.
Lets put the people that have committed CRIMES in JAIL where they BELONG.
You see, the THREE branches of government each have MANY people working for them. There is no possible reason not to investigate and prosecute crimes AND work on the economic crisis at the same time.
The fact that the perpaTRAITORS get their asses thrown in JAIL should only buoy up the markets as people will see that justice is not a purchasable commodity in the US, thereby giving them MORE confidence in their government and boosting the country in general. -
