- wilsonics, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15i don't care for the term minority....because it seems more and more that the white population is becoming the minority...I'm white, and I have no problem with this. It's great, I just see people for who they are.
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"yes, because true diversity comes from the color of your skin"
As well as who you prefer to boink. - rekrapt, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15Diversity mean not white, not male, NOT Christian and not heterosexual.
- rekrapt, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15Believe what you want, but individual diversity make individuals strong. However, it is commonality that makes a nation strong. Divide and conquer... the U.S. will suffer from too much "diversity".
Believe it or don't. - jiggleflop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@pegisys
"melting pots" are great, but often when diverse cultures meet, the first result is a cesspool... It takes generations before different cultures meld into a peaceful, open minded coexistence. - pahncrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4People are just people... it's the sense of entitlement that many folks have that turns my view of the situation sour. If you set the same rules for everyone, stuff will work itself out. Their probably are some statistically measurable differences between the abilities of different races, we shouldn't try so hard to make everyone exactly the same. If someone is extraordinaryor even capable, they will do well, regardless of race.
I grew up extremely poor, and life has been tough (very tough). I am working steadily at my Chem Engineering degree and I expect to be successful someday (after a lot of hard work). Anyone can improve their lot in life once they lose the "everybody owes me something" mentality... otherwise they spend their lives with their minds closed and their hands open. - dante21, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Diversity will not divide America because that is what this country was built on. What will divide us though is people not excepting the fact that some of us are just different. If you can look at someone without sorting them out because they are a certain color then this will not be a problem for you.

Thanks for making my argument for me. You're pointing out that we, as immigrants, destroyed the society that was already here. You're absolutely right. And therefore, so is my original statement.
Oh, and BTW, Japan? Are you kidding me? They're doing fine because they're unbelievably homogeneous. So thanks again for making my argument for me. - SundayBrunch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hands open, pants down, tooth paste on the forehead, carrot in their nose, sleeping on somebody else's couch.

Bunch of no-good freeloaders. - MisterMr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good insight sark666. Great quotes:
"So you will do something more for someone of your background than someone who is not. Sounds like racism to me."
"...I found asking a few other minority friends and getting the same answer, it led me to believe that if you are the minority, there is a great chance you will look at the majority as the more attractive. Then you know what comes next being a minority, you want to be the majority. All of these friends admitted to me, at one time or another in their lives that they wanted to be white. Again, this is probably a normal sociological response to being a minority." - SundayBrunch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I expect to see alot of anal action with all this multiculturalism and whatnot!!!! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha lmao
- mlock2k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3i was always taught this is the melting pot. I am half black half white never new i wasn't American. I don't know if i should feel bad or good. If i woke up and saw a bunch of foreigners in my neighborhood is that a bad thing ? Are some of us scard that these folks will move in and take out great low paying jobs that no body wants to work ? Before we say there goes the neighborhood let take a look around us there should be more important things to worry about. As long as we are all Americans we should all be OK.
- nocountries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bUND
that was me being funny. English humour just doesn't translate into American. What I said was almost verbatim from Fawlty Towers, the comedy show.
And I was in a soccer riot last week, funnily enough!
Have you ever heard of the psychological term "projection"? It's when you're (for example) uptight, but you accuse someone else of being uptight to divert attention from yourself.
It's a subconscious thing, which is why it's such a dead giveaway. Troubled childhood, by any chance? - SundayBrunch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a melting pot with white people's balls melting in the middle of it.
- The_Red_Monkey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Diversity means not white, and why am I called white when i am a nice pinkish color anyway. I will bury this since I grew up in Salinas, CA and we have always had a good mix around here.
- nocountries, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I can't believe what a bunch of ignorant wankers you Americans are sometimes. Some of you are probably students.
Your forefathers spent MOST OF THE 18TH CENTURY IMPORTING BLACKS FROM AFRICA AS SLAVES.
Try reading some books. REALLY! - cantoral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Slaves, Blacks, Whites. Why so few talk about something older? Europeans infected millions of native Americans and took over their land. Now those native Americans are immune. Let us fix this mess and live in harmony.
- Kaleb, on 10/12/2007, -9/+10Yeah, well, the American colonies didn't exactly "adapt" to the ways of the Native Americans very well when they decided to destroy their entire way of life through the introduction of European plagues and sicknesses that effectively wiped 99% of the North American Indian population, followed up by two centuries of manifest destiny. Anyone who's not a Native American is an immigrant here, so if you're not happy with immigrants, may I humbly suggest that you go back to Europe (or wherever). Besides, Japan has half the population of the US and less than 4% of the land area, and they seem to be doing okay. Let's not even get into India and China. What's seen as an immigration problem here is seen as a spectacular waste of perfectly good land in other countries. The more, the merrier, I say.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Have you seen our women lately, they have became pasty, big, fat Beefalo's or Obese Denise.
At least with a South American chick, you can get a super hot chick who is not fat or obese and who doesn't have that American Women attitude, you know what I mean.
American Women stay away from me indeed! - Kaleb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@uttles
Hmm... touche. Indeed, you make a compelling statement with your well-thought out, reasoned arguments. Perhaps you would like to call me a poo-poo head, as well? Ah, who am I kidding, I'm not above this - I'll just throw in a "your mother" for good measure and be done with it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to my plans for world domination. - Kaleb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I agree. Better start stocking up on shells and register for several dozen concealed weapons for the next Civil War and World War VII now (you redneck shmuck).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Maybe not...
But unless you have lived in Southern California and seen the damage illegal immigration has caused, you have no right to speak.
We are FED UP with these people, and we are FED UP with our politicians/media pandering to them and their causes.
and "we" does not equal a bunch of racist rednecks sitting on a pickup truck drinking pabst blue ribbon. "WE" equals intelligent, educated citizens who are sick and ***** tired of their ***** over the years. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !!! - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Diversity? Isn't that an old wooden ship?
- mikevickrocks, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Yes, but I didn't really need a report to tell me this...Anyways, for some reason, here in Iowa, we are getting tons of "minorities." I'm not really sure what Iowa has over the other states, (corn, beans, haha?) but they sure seem to like it here.
- cantoral, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I am passed the age of dating women, you must have misunderstood me. I see women and they are beautiful, that is not perversion, that is love of life.
- mlock2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2nope wrong i think that makes you a clan member because there are alot of things blacks and whites and other established races would jointly fight for in our country So rather than you say it would be a civil war between the whites and everyone else. Sorry man but the makes you the clan to me dawg. It dont say white baseball apple pie and Chevrolet it just says baseball. All of us. Sorry brother but take that spin to the o' bill o'whitey factor and fight for your rights that you feel you got robbed of

Yep, latin babes look like they are twenty and hot when they are just twelve, and a fat 50 when they are thirty. - cantoral, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3The oldest immigrants are the Olmecs, Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas. They came from Africa via Asia. Before those, whom I know by name because I was born in Tenochtitlan, better known as Mexico City, there were people whose names I do not know around twenty thousand years ago.
Now the whole world is moving here; of course there are more Mexicans because we live next door.
I know this is not easy but everybody should get used to people different from them to move here.
If we can be all friends, this will be the most powerful country in the whole world for many years to come. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Ya know what....
I was going to rip into you buddy.....but my mom always taught me to respect my elders.
Rock on, old man !!! - kevin.gc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3As long as the immigrants got here legally, I have no qualms.
- cantoral, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Talk to your neighbors, help them or ask for help, they will appreciate it even if they don't belong to your tribe. Most American Indians died of diseases brought by the European immigrants, but now we are all inoculated, there are one hundred million Mexicans down the border. We can make a new race, the sum of all races.
- uttles, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7The takeover is underway
- duckslut, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I know, and those hot sauce stains never really come out.
- uttles, on 10/12/2007, -12/+12I somewhat agree with you. I think too many times "diversity" means people of other races and cultures entering into the mix but NOT adapting to the local culture, or even the national culture. The thing about diversity is that in order for it to actually be beneficial the groups have to adapt to each other and be a conglomerate, not a disjunct group of non-communicating cultures.
- albertmezaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm not even going to pretend that I read even half of that long ass post but I will say that I'm a minority and wouldn't change who I am or where I fit in this world for anything. You may choose not to believe that if you wish.
- uttles, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Kaleb, you are something else. That something is: stupid.
- albertmezaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What makes it your job. If I can do it better and cheaper and I get hired then isn't it rightfully my job. That's the problem with America today, they've been the top dog for so long they have this inflated sense of entitlement. Well enjoy it while you can because this century belongs to the Chinese.
- albertmezaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Do you have any qualms about how the founding fathers got here? What's good for the goose should be good for the gander, no?
- albertmezaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You're right to some degree. Assimilation/Diversity is not an all or nothing thing. I want to assimilate the good parts of american culture and keep the good parts of my own. Everyone has a different level of assimilation they want to achieve and who are you tell them how much is okay. Are you afraid your culture is going disappear in the midst of all this diversity? Unfortunately, Technology, the global marketplace, media driven social trends etc... probably pose a greater threat to the culture you were raised in than immigrants. 30 years from now you'll be sitting on your porch reminiscing about the good old days, like generations before you. Same as it ever was.
- cantoral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I may know what you mean. When I was living in Mexico poor people from the countryside used to come to town. It was not a pretty sight. What are we going to do, put our heads in the ground like ostriches?
I don't know what to do when the masses of the poor come knocking on our doors. The school system is not ready, the medical system is not ready. I know there is a problem, but as long as I see that my neighbors are making an effort to be helpful, I welcome them. If they get in trouble with the law because they hurt me, I feel protected by the law.
Difficult times we are living in. - JK1150, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Senator Byrd (D-WV) was in the KKK as well... I can see why the minorities aren't flocking there.
- charleighsmom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They just SAY there aren't immigrants in WV they are all on the chicken farms . . . working illegally for Tyson.
WV's tanking economy?? WV's economy might have something to do with Joe Manchin . . funny how everyone jumps on Bush for WV's economy . . . the jobs that are leaving the state are due in part to the litigous state of WV. Yeah, the lawyers.
The lawyers are also to blame for the high rates of insurance in the state. . . . - nocountries, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1bUND
Oh I see, slavery was the FAULT of the black people themselves! Well, they must be punished, then. Naughty little *****, whip their black asses.
And all the wuvly wickle white folk never knew a godd damm thing about it, just like the Germans during the Holocaust.
Love the reference to "your people". I'd be proud, but I'm white. Thanks. - sark666, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Ahhh, we're all racist, even if just a little.
Tell me, who here does not mind being a minority? First off, I don't care how your pigment adapted to the sun, I don't think I'm of superior intelligence or any of that crap.
But, I still think no one wants to be a minority. Let me explain. So called 'minorities' come to north america and usually, somehow an area is chosen to settle down, and then word gets back home and more and more come to those same areas to make their own communities. Sounds fine and dandy. But you know what, I don't like it. See here is one thing I think the US got right (I live in Canada btw). The US is a 'melting pot' as in once your a citizen, your supposedly just like everyone else and part of the american culture. But here in Canada, we are an amalgamation of cultures. Ya see, Canada in it of itself has no culture. This I don't agree with and pisses me off.
Because of this, christmas is now a dirty word (you never see any, and I mean any store having merry christmas hung up in the stores, now it's just 'season greetings' or 'happy holidays (what holiday is it then?! sigh but I digress). And I'm not of any religion but after generations saying merry christmas (even people who don't believe in christ in the slightest, it becomes part of the culture, of which we supposedly have none of our own.) This is also why you'll see canadian mounties wearing turbans, and arguments about whether it's ok for a boy to carry some dagger to school for a rite of passage.
See for all you non white people out there who think white people 'stick together' and the man is out to keep you down I'll let you in on a little secret, white people have no solidarity at all, as a matter of fact, white people are scared to ***** to say boo to anyone. In effect, you can say white man is now oppressed because he can't point the finger and call anyone the oppressor (I guess at least white women can call man the oppressor).
And about that solidarity, I think it's a good thing white man has none, because to me, that in itself is a form of racism (reverse racism as it's usually referred to). But people will say it's not racism 'I'm just looking out for my people'. So you will do something more for someone of your background than someone who is not. Sounds like racism to me.
But you know what? That's actually a very natural response to being a minority. Ya see, being a minority can have a profound impact on ones life, even if they are not aware of it.
Ok, I guess I'm considered an old fart these days, well I grew up in the seventies when people were really, really a minority. In grade school, my best friend was black(he and one other guy in some class were the only black people in the whole school, with a few asians, a couple of east indians and the rest all white). Now in hanging around him, I noticed a few things. One, he was primarily attracted to white girls. Now bear with me here, I'm not trying to say anything stereotypical of black guys with white chicks. I'm just saying he found them most attractive. But then I noticed my other good friend (who was asian) also found white girls the most attractive. Again, I'm not trying to say this is because white people are the most beautiful or something like that, but what I found asking a few other minority friends and getting the same answer, it led me to believe that if you are the minority, there is a great chance you will look at the majority as the more attractive. Then you know what comes next being a minority, you want to be the majority. All of these friends admitted to me, at one time or another in their lives that they wanted to be white. Again, this is probably a normal sociological response to being a minority. Unfortunately, this can lead to being ashamed of ones own looks.
But then comes the minorities dirty little secret. At some time or another, their parents said 'You can be anything you want to be, but watch out for some of the white people.' One of my minority friends told me this and I was shocked. But being a curious bugger, I posed the question to my other minority friends and all of them were told something along the same lines. And some of them, got quite emotional about it (showing anger, 'spouting and my dad was right too!). This is planting the seed of racism for another generation. And I asked all of them, reflecting back, do you think it was right your parents saying this to you, and all of them thought it was right and they would issue similar warnings to their children.
So to end this massive rambling. 1) I'm glad I was a majority growing up and I didn't have parents tell me this (it ended at you can be anything you want to be). 2) I'm also glad I didn't go through a stage in my life where I felt some sense of shame in how I look or who I am. Now if I was the minority, I'm sure all the above would have happened to me.
So to end this, I don't mind having an east indian neighbour, a black neighbour, an asian neighbour, a jewish neighbour etc. But I don't want to be a minority in my neighbourhood which I am now, as for some reason (economical I'm sure) as my whole area is now primarily east indian. In a very short time frame, it has totally changed.
And then I realized, I'm not racist in the sense that I think I'm superior blah blah, but I realized 1) I hate religion in all it's forms 2) I hate a lot of things about a lot of peoples cultures and this more often than not has to do with 1.
I think their would be a lot less hatred and racism if in every community there were about an equal amount of all cultures, instead of every culture making one area their own. -
