- PhilPerspective, on 07/16/2009, -6/+97This isn't that new. It's been known for a few years now. Monica Goodling admitted a year or two ago that Liberty U.(Yes, Pat Robertson's outfit) was the place to go if you wanted to increase your chances to be accepted to Justice's internships and Honors Program.
- treehugger87, on 07/16/2009, -19/+98More blatant attempts by the Bush administration to create two Americas
- MiddleAmerica, on 07/16/2009, -21/+89
It sounds like a clear cut case of discrimination if not bigotry too.
- JoeParanoid, on 07/16/2009, -10/+61So when is the new broom going to sweep the unqualified political hirees out?
And, for the record, Bill Clinton was far too evenhanded when it came to bipartisan hiring and appointments and the Repugs still hated his guts. Of course every administration has preferences. The real problem with the Bush Justice Department was that highly qualified candidates were passed over for talentless hacks who used the DoJ purely for advancement of political and religious objectives, and not justice. - Dipsomaniac, on 07/16/2009, -8/+43"In all fairness though, [insert pre-emptive tu-quoque fallacy here]"
What you did there wasn't "fairness". It was attempted and fallacious justification, which fails because you're not providing anything to back it up. - AgeofMastery, on 07/16/2009, -9/+39Reality, that was from a study commissioned by Bush
Nice try - FredFredrickson, on 07/16/2009, -3/+32How, exactly, is Obama turning the U.S. into a third world country?
...
Oh that's right, he's not. Rush just made some more ***** up again, and you're repeating it, right?
How could people be so stupid as to think that any guy who becomes president wants the country to fail? None of them want that. It's just that some of them, like George W Bush, go about things the wrong way. - EddiePotato, on 07/16/2009, -4/+27The Obama admin said "conservatives are terrorists"? Link, please.
- AgeofMastery, on 07/16/2009, -4/+24It's not our job to prove your claims. I know you think being a right winger excempts you from having to provide proof but it doesn't work that way.
- deweyhewson, on 07/17/2009, -2/+22You've gotta love how not too long ago any criticism of Bush was met with, "B-b-b-b-but Clinton!!!"
Now that the shoe is on the other foot, Republicans are crying that we should focus on the guy in office now.
Interesting how that works, isn't it? - AgeofMastery, on 07/16/2009, -4/+24Because she released a study commissioned by the Bush administration. Along with a matching one about the left wing.
But you righties like to forget those little facts for some reason. - youliveinfear, on 07/16/2009, -6/+26He sure showed you dips. He "heard it on NPR". Now that's some serious proof there. Now it's on you to provide a rebuttal with some proof against his obviously well-researched claim. Here let me help
"I heard on PBS that Obama and Clinton administrations have been fair to applicants." - FredFredrickson, on 07/16/2009, -8/+27Who isn't keeping on eye on Obama? He's been under fire, over various issues, from both parties since the beginning of his administration. In fact, I'd wager to say that more Democrats questioned some of his actions in the first 100 days of his presidency than Republicans questioned Bush during his entire 8 years in office.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+18For federal crimes, we can consolidate the states' resources into a single department that handles specifically federal crimes. We'll call it the Justice Department.
- FredFredrickson, on 07/16/2009, -3/+21Exactly right. Bush & Co. were the kings of polarization, and the conservatives can't seem to find any political footing without it.
- EddiePotato, on 07/16/2009, -1/+19Okay, here it is.
---------------------------------
"Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration."
---------------------------------
I still can't find where it says "conservatives are terrorists". It states that a right wing extremist group may be dedicated to a particular conservative cause, which is quite unassailable, just as a left wing extremist group may be dedicated to a particular liberal cause.
Extremists are extremists regardless of what their panties are all in a wad about, and crying victim because someone mentions a cause that is dear to you in the context of defining various forms of extremism is pretty damned rash and immature. - FredFredrickson, on 07/16/2009, -4/+20Actually, you're the troll, Blanks. You're posting information that is completely untrue at worst, and completely misinformed, at best.
Does it surprise you that national security thinks that conservatives are more likely to become terrorists when the government takes a wide swing towards the liberal side? Did it surprise you when, during the Bush administration, a virtually identical report was released that said the same thing over liberals?
It's pretty ***** simple, and it doesn't have anything to do with either party being biased. It has a lot to do with one party losing elections and getting pissed off about it, and the more extreme members being put under more of an acute watch. Big ***** deal. - Dipsomaniac, on 07/16/2009, -3/+18YLIF, I think you've provided a solid rebuttal, at least as good as Sancho's original claim.
Sancho, you haven't provided anything to contradict. Your personal opinion isn't particularly relevant. - sulthernao, on 07/16/2009, -1/+16Dumbass alert!
- socrates17, on 07/16/2009, -1/+16"In all fairness though, do you think the Clinton Administration or Obama Administration is giving much time to applicants who list membership in the John Birch Society, Young Republicans, etc.?"
I suppose neither of us know. I sure hope they aren't though.
Either way, it still isn't fair in a "Two wrongs don't make a right" sort of way. - Anomaly100, on 07/16/2009, -1/+16And don't forget the conspiracies! And the birth certificate. Where the hell is it. pfft!
You're paranoid. - altgeeky1, on 07/16/2009, -2/+16Aw, does going after Timmothy McVeigh types make you nervous?
Hint: tinfoil hats AMPLIFY those mind control waves Obama is broadcasting over PBS. - waaaahhh, on 07/16/2009, -2/+14whining conservatives whining about whining liberals is much much better
- archiesteel, on 07/16/2009, -1/+12Yes, you're whining and spreading falsehoods on the Internet. Way to go.
- archiesteel, on 07/16/2009, -2/+13...says the do-nothing, constantly whining conservative...
- Scottamus, on 07/16/2009, -5/+15In response the Bush Admin said:
"So what are you gonna do about it? If you go after us we'll just say you are trying to divide the nation and are looking back instead of forward. If you don't then you are basically saying the gov't can do what the ***** it wants and no one can do or say anything about it except bitch and moan on some web site." - TCBevolver, on 07/16/2009, -2/+11Explain your sense of "you're."
- archiesteel, on 07/16/2009, -1/+10The meltdown that has the economy improving following Obama's economic plan?
Ah, conservatives. I'm always amazed by their ability to deny reality. - AgeofMastery, on 07/16/2009, -6/+15Of course, anyone who disagrees with you has to be a troll. Can't let things like facts and logic get in the way of right wing lies and propaganda can we?
- ZenMojo, on 07/16/2009, -1/+9Bush added 8 trillion to our national debt. Just thought I should point that out.
- Anomaly100, on 07/16/2009, -2/+10Breaking: Limbaugh just called Sotomayor an idiot...oh, wait, he did, didn't he?
- grgt1994, on 07/16/2009, -0/+8Wait, you thought government was a meritocracy?
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -1/+9Yes, actually.
Thanks for the two wars, recession, and the Patriot Act.
/registered Republican - ClosedCaption, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7Yeah! Michael Jackson died just to hide and distract from the "meltdown" too!
Let's stop pretending that any news about Bush (the former president of the ***** US) is meant to distract from Obama. Bush did things, News reports things. Stop playing the victim, I'm so tired of Repubs whining about being victims. - SpinningHead, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7I think he was being sarcastic.
- publiclurker, on 07/16/2009, -5/+12That's because reality has a liberal bias, therefore when you try to get competent people they will usually be liberal.
- appleseed1234, on 07/16/2009, -0/+7Well they sure do a lot of fear-mongering, fits the definition I guess...
- publiclurker, on 07/16/2009, -2/+9Grow up and let the men do their job. Just because you don't want to have to pay the price for the damage caused by your and your incompetent morally bankrupt friends does not mean that the work shouldn't be done to fix your mess.
- s73v3r, on 07/16/2009, -3/+10Umm, we kinda need a Justice Department. That kind of thing isn't exactly something that can be done by the private sector, or should be.
- sulthernao, on 07/16/2009, -0/+7The Obama administration has brought up a wall of independence between it and the Justice Department (as it should be). How independent it really is? I have no clue. What I do know is that they have at least tried to reduce the politicization of what is supposedly an impartial administrative body.
I'd like to point to the gay bashing Justice Department memo and the whole host of other things the Justice Department is defending that is contrary to the liberal ideology, if you don't believe me on the fact of independence from Obama and the Justice Department. - FredFredrickson, on 07/16/2009, -0/+7When did you go through that questioning?
- archiesteel, on 07/17/2009, -1/+7No, no, no...***** *you*.
My industry is already seeing signs of recovery.
You guys really need to let go of that anti-Obama obsession. He's helping, you're not. - hmunkey, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6Not breaking: Rawstory backs up claim with evidence, unlike right-wing "news" sources who make ***** up.
- Paranor01, on 07/17/2009, -1/+7and boy are you disgusting. you really should consider taking a class in civility.
- lostlyrics, on 07/16/2009, -0/+6Troll-skying - hm - sounds absolutely honest
after all, not all freshlings just hatched bring up.
- so you sell studies from long digg experience ?
how much ? I mean, 100 lbs at paper recycling ? - treehugger87, on 07/17/2009, -1/+7For the record I am not fan of Black Jesus. I think he lacks the audacity needed to really push a progressive agenda against the wishes of the big banks that really run this country. I won't call him a failure on gay rights, torture, energy, health care and the economy yet, but that's because it's only 6 months into his presidency and I still have a little hope that he's playing it smart and trying to get the American people to really stand up and demand what they want rather than being the "decider".
And also for the record, yes, I absolutely despise Bush. The whole idea of "looking forward" is completely offensive to me. He and those who worked with him in the White House should be on trial for their lives right now for the treason they committed while he was in office. - PhilliesBlunt, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6Explain the last eight years?
- macinit1138, on 07/16/2009, -10/+16The only productive statements regarding Bush worth reading will always include the words: "treason" and "firing squad".
- publiclurker, on 07/16/2009, -3/+9Since they are responsible for the damage, hell yes!.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 07/17/2009, -1/+7Ain't preemptive unjustified wars of graft for Cheney's cronies and the Bush family's oil friends a bitch?
