- spinchange, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23why not link to the actual source story? (linked in blog)
http://dallas.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2006/09/18/daily39.html
It's damning enough without being overtly partisan.
It's always better to try to link directly to the source.
A partisan blog show bias and spin even if there's underlying truth to story.
Besides, in this case...some of the "facts" are being a little exaggerated here. Read the source story too. - paulvcarter, on 10/12/2007, -9/+29Any surprise about this from this admin? Looting is all they seem good at.
- fredrated, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21"This has been happening for ages."
Yes, but it has never been done in such a methodical, systematic, blatant way as it is now under Bush. - fredrated, on 10/12/2007, -9/+22Unlike the Republicult party, which wouldn't know the truth if it ***** in their mouth,
- Desolite, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15isn't that how the mafia works?
i'll breaka your legs! - trghpy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15When you take millions in campaign contributions you have to give back millions in government contracts. Why the hell are people surprised?
This has been happening for ages. - fredrated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Any contracts officer who violated the procurement rules would be fired and prosecuted."
Wrong, not when the criminals are in charge of the criminal justice system. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I wonder how long it will take the neocons to make this perfectly legal

Thank you. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7i thought we were all fighting in iraq?
Bush also said We are risking our lives we get the best contracts
i DID NOT know the republican party was at war with iraq only.
I will be sure to tell my friends over their they can leave at any time by becomeing a dem.
I dont think the whole problem here is cronism(dont justify it either.. THere needs to be transparency in gov)
THE PROBLEM, THE ISSUE here is that they gave contracts to completely unqualified people just because they ere supporters. and mind you unlike past presidents.. you not only had to be in the gop but you had to be a supper mega supporter of bush.
A 20 year old with zero finacial experience should not be over there setting up the stock market over someone more qualified.. IF we want to win over their, if we want to rebuild their country, once in a while you will have to send the liberal who is more qaulified, over the snot nosed kid that bows to you.
No wonder iraq is SOOOO ***** up.. I dont mind replacing bush with another republican, actualll i would like it, but i dont think we can last 2 more years of this crap. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11"When you take millions in campaign contributions you have to give back millions in government contracts. Why the hell are people surprised?"
It's not so much the surprise I'm concerned about, it's the apathy and hypocrisy. The religious right is backing a party with moral character usually associated with the mafia. The conservative right has been going about corruption in government for years, but when it's THEIR guys looting the public treasury, rigging elections, lying to the public and giving tax money to religious organizations they're remarkably silent.

"The procurement officer is the solely responsible independent authority on contract awards."
Oh, what a joke. You pompous ass, government contract officers have been replaced with people who will play ball and hand out the contracts to the good 'ol boy network. That's when they haven't simply gone around the contract officers, like Cheney did to award contracts to Haliburton. I see it every day. You're a hypocrite supporting a corrupt, dishonest and downright dangerous group of people, many of whom belong in jail. People like you enable this ***** to keep going on. You're a pathetic, disgusting spineless piece of *****. - VolatileWhimsy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I just hope that when a Dem gets in office that the same rules are going to be applied to him.. None of this.. "Well you know the Republicans did it what do you expect?" Its either acceptable or its wrong across the board...
But that guy should resign though :/ - atlantisceo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You're right, awarding contracts isn't a crime. But from your own ideas, half of the contracts should be given to democratic supporters and half republicans, correct? That isn't what is happening here.
I know what side of the fence you are on.... - Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6What is it like being completely delusional? Is it like being really drunk or are you so stupid that you don't realize it?
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yeesh, don't you people get it? As soon as someone CALLS for someone's resignation in this administration, that's the indicator that it will NEVER happen. As soon as someone points out a mistake, crime or otherwise "unacceptable" thought, it gets batted down, and those who are responsible for the irresponsibility become set in stone.
- Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I don't want resignations I want arrests
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7soooo much corruption... i can smell the stench from here
- daldredge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Both major political parties do this sort of thing but they only get upset when the other side does it.
If Congress was serious about fighting this type of corruption they would make it punishable by a 10-20 year jail term per offense. But they don't because, if they get caught, they want to get off easy as well. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5normally that means they will soon get a metal from the president.
- Rodzirra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6No surprise, at all. Wealth transfer is what governments are created for.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually after G.W. Bush was accused of raping a man (true, actually!) the woman who made the accusation died only 9 months later.
Hmmm... Bush is a man raper? I guess so. Aren't accusations great? - BrokenMessenger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Henry is a tough guy to figure out. One moment he's calling for the resignation of a high ranking Bush administration official, the next he's shrugging his shoulders over a far more significant scandal. I truly can't tell when he's postulating or when he is serious over issues - of course, this goes for most politicians on the hill.
That said, this is a serious issue that cannot be ignored by the Bush Administration. - chikmag777, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@atlantisceo
Contracts should be given based on which company is best able to do the job, not based on any political affiliation.
I'm not saying that's what's happening now, but that's the way it SHOULD be. - Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4m e d a l
from middle French medaglia meaning award - pt4117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree with spincahnge, you should always link to the actual article. You should also give credit to the site where you originally found it though. Just do it in the description, or the first post.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I looked up the American Progress Action Fund, and found... nothing at all. Just a fund, a website and some PR. So I'm modding you down.
As for the strawman you just presented about how things would be wonderful, if only, no one in opposition to President G. W. ***** has ever said that, and it's stupid. - jonj, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"Yes, but it has never been done in such a methodical, systematic, blatant way as it is now under Bush."
Au Contraire; the Chicago Democratic Machine did it much more thoroughly until the mid 70s, and even does it to this day. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4***** off, troll.
- positron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This might be a shock to you, but they are called criminals because they don't give a ***** about what the law says.
- carlosglz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That''s why I'm so grateful that with Proposition 89 in California we have a chance to end the corruption in State politics like Maine, Arizona and Connecticut have:

Hillary and Willy did worse yet they are poster kids for the radical left.
(yawn. this isn't news.) - 10ksnooker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Go read the Federal Procurement laws for yourself. It has nothing to do with who is in charge of Justice. There are plenty of non-partisan career types who will prosecute.
This nonsense if the easiest type of complaint to file and least likely to ever result in finding anything. Filing a grievance on contract award is simple. Proving it is hard.
Why is it so hard to understand that this was thought of before and Congress long ago put in protection processes to prevent and prosecute abuses. - jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3hahaha, so true tho
- CKR600, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Jackson responded: "Heeeeeeeey!"
- mlarsen, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4So, from now until the next presidential election libs will call for the resignation of all of the white house- yea, that will solve all the problems. Dream on.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0digg, the extension of traffic and readers for thinkprogress.org
- millyuns, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1And this applies to Halliburton, how?
- saigumi, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4The Bush administration made one mistake in all of these. They didn't knock off the people who knew about their shady dealings. Any good Democrat knows that all of your previous partners and their families need to die from mysterious causes just after you enter office. Clinton taught them that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1I bet if bush resigned there would be "peace" in the Middle East.
And there wouldn't be Hurricane's anymore
the environment would get all better - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0thinkprogress.org,,,,

"American Progress Action Fund" - 10ksnooker, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1A few facts about how federal contracts are awarded would go a long way. There are plenty of safeguards built into the federal procurement rules to prevent exactly this. Any contracts officer who violated the procurement rules would be fired and prosecuted.
It would make no difference what the department Secretary had to say about anything. The procurement officer is the solely responsible independent authority on contract awards.
I notice that Think Progress declines to provide the reader with these facts -- I wonder why. - nrecob, on 10/12/2007, -23/+4Why whould Libstains ever want to confuse an issue with facts? ;)
- vbbx, on 10/12/2007, -23/+2Another belly laugher from Think Progress to get the moonbats up for the day.
How is awarding contracts any crime? Losers always are sore and complain. You need more evidence than hearsay from political hacks.
Heck half the companies in America probably support Republicans, the other half support Democrats. A Republican administration can't award any contracts to Republican supporters, how does that work. I would bet Clinton awarded lots of contracts to his supporters.
Maybe Waxman should resign, he seems useless, everything with him is nothing but partisan attack.
