- emailyourbuddy, on 07/08/2009, -0/+19I look forward to the day when the war on the American people (often called the "war on drugs") is finally over.
- goobly, on 07/08/2009, -0/+17If everyone took LSD once the world would be a much better place.
- tjathf, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8Interesting read, also, psychonauts.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+7LSD is the substance that scares governments more than any other substance. If you don't believe me, look at the average sentence given to a rapist compared to the average sentence given to someone for manufacturing or moving acid. It's one of the safest drugs (if we're going to use that word) in existence. It's also one of the most beneficial if treated with respect and used properly. The government would serve us much better by promoting its safe use than by keeping up its harsh charade.

Now, if I may take a moment to express my personal thoughts on acid.
Back in the day (1960's/70's), it wasn't uncommon to see people scarfing down loads of the stuff, really overdoing it.
Then after the 80's experience and into the mid to late 90's as acid really started to make a comeback coupled with ecstacy (in the south we called it "candy flipping"), I noticed it was being ingested in smaller quantities but still had the same effects. We're talking a little piece of paper, approximately 1/8th the size of one of those stickers commonly found on apples/pears/oranges and that was enough to make people trip for a solid 8 to 10 hours. Comedown time another 8 to 10 hours, usually slept off. The stuff was cheap, easily accessible, and offered an indescribably intense experience. All thoughts are pure and child-like without being infantile, and emotions were magnfied 10x, though it felt infinite at times. Though the high was pure, the comedown felt dirty. Like any other drug, it has different effects on different people. The best advice I can give is for it to be experienced with others whom you trust. I also believe that one of the best times to take it in a person's life is when they have fewer responsibilties, i.e. late teens - early 20's. Sure, it can be taken later, but that age is a critical point of impact if you know what I mean. Plus I can't really imagine somebody in their 40's with a young family of their own just going out to bar frying their balls off and coming back home to pass out like they would after some beers with the boys, aint gonna happen my friend. You'll want to set aside a weekend, near a beach preferably, and most importantly above all else, be with friends whom you trust. - Benzobob, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4A 17 year old kid on acid stabbed some little girl and her mother in my neighborhood. He was an alcoholic and meth addict as well, but was only on LSD at the time. I believe LSD has the potential to change the world, and certainly your life, in a good way under safe and conditions, but please don't treat it like weed. You can't just give it to everyone. I'm not sure how I would feel about total legalization, but I would love to see the return of LSD psychotherapy and more studies on it's benefits in treating addiction and comforting the dying, among many other uses.
EDIT: I should also mention that I have done it myself, and had a very pleasant time as do most people. It is unfortunately the 0.5% mentally unstable we need to worry about, but they are also the people who would benefit most from LSD psychotherapy. Again I would like to see the legal restrictions lifted for legitimate studies and the like. - Hetman, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3Biology and Genetics also. The guy who discovered the double helix said he first visiulized what he had to look like when he was tripping. Do not forget the world of sports also.

- Hetman, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3Coming off of hallucinogens mushrooms and lsd has never been a problem for me. Definitely not nearly as bad as having a bad hang over from alcohol. But as you stated every drug affects every differently.
- WaCkYmAk, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like...
- wdmax, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2LSD is about as safe as a loaded gun in the hands of a child. There is a reason why it needs to be controlled. BUT! It is a very important substance that needs to be studied and people allowed to use the drug as long as it is administered in the right dose and the right setting by a true doctor of psychology well versed in psychedelic pharmacology.
A first step: I would not mind some sort of state licensing program for users. You need to become educated concerning mind altering substances and pass a test that certifies you as a competent psychonaut and weed out the psychologically impaired. Cannabis only users have a Class III license while MDMA and LSD use would require a Class II, heroin a Class I license. You are allowed to purchase and carry doses in limited quantities for personal use from certified distributors (allows the FDA and drug companies to participate). You are then held responsible for the use of the substances, abuse would constitute revocation of the license and you then have to go through a level II licensing process. A black market could still exist for abusers giving the DEA something to do, but at least responsible personal use could still be allowed.
I want legalization, but I also want responsible private use. - skatoolaki, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Fascinating stuff. I didn't realize that LSD had such an impact on the technical world and am interested in reading some of the books mentioned in the article. I have always noted the connection between LSD and music (all drugs and music, for that matter; think ecstasy and techno), but never before considered that, at its inception and peak, it had an effect on our, then, advancing technology. Now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense.
I have always said that everyone should trip at least once in their lifetime; the experience will change you, help you grow, and give you a new perspective on life. - stoanhart, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Coming off of LSD is super easy if you smoke weed during the comedown. When the peak ended after about 4-6 hours, it was almost an instant shift from high as a kite to an uneasy feeling of (relative) sobriety. Smoking a pipe pushed us back to the peak, with even more intense visuals than before. This boost would last about an hour, so we would smoke again every hour and it had the same effect every time. We basically did that for 10 hours (until noon the next day), when we all suddenly fell asleep without remembering the exact moment it happened. When we woke up, we were down. Nice easy landing...
- skatoolaki, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Agreed!!
- skatoolaki, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1I can only pray we see it in our lifetime, but I fear that will not happen.
- vectoor, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1I seriously doubt that, still, if you want to take lsd I wont stand in your way.
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Didn't some perfectly normal guy who was fed LSD without his knowledge jump out a window to his death?
- splinter09, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1That explains everything!
- skatoolaki, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1My problem has always been the comedowns; I don't come down easily at all and it became enough of a problem that I simply stopped using any such substances. Sucks, really, but that is simply how my body (and more, my mind) reacts.
- MsArtGeek, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Lesson to be learned, kids. Don't dose people without their knowledge or consent. Especially normals. It's kind of an ***** move. Whether or not the story is actually true (or, as I suspect, an urban legend).
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -0/+0FUN!
- llsethj, on 07/09/2009, -1/+1Some Fake Steve Jobs articles write themselves...not that this one won't be entertaining...
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/10/2009, -1/+1A drug addict who was on LSD at the time killed a mother and a little girl in your neighborhood and you go on to say that it can change the world in a positive way??
As for its use in psychotherapy, there is a well documented case of a mental health professional who destroyed a man over a period of time by giving him LSD.
The drug has been found to stay in fat inside the brain and be released at random times throughout the life of an individual who has taken it. Have you never heard of "flashbacks"? To me, that sounds like a hellish experience and a scary degradation of one's brain. And for what - for fun?
