2. Not all Democrats are good
3. Quit generalizing.
4. Know the issues. - NorthMass, on 07/07/2009, -11/+423What excuse is there for these politicians to not even allow a vote for the amendment Senator DeMint attached? Do the American people not deserve to know what their central bank that deals with trillions of dollars is doing? Any of these politicians that talks about the importance of "transparency" and then refuses to even open the books of the Fed is being extremely disingenuous.

- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -16/+285That was ***** awesome.
So the Democrats block the language because it violates Rule 16 and DeMint proceeds to list all the other language that violates Rule 16 which the Democrats have no problem with.
THAT is a ***** BEAT DOWN. - PhreakMac, on 07/07/2009, -29/+269Senator Ben Nelson is a traitor to the USA, anyone who opposes this bill wants nothing more than seeing the US fall to its knees.
- pathouston22, on 07/08/2009, -22/+203See kids, you grew up during the Bush administration, and thought Democrats were going to save us from that disaster. Now you know, they are all the same. Corrupt. Liars. Politicians.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -20/+181This is sad. I'm 24 and I'm so worried that by the time I am in my 40s, there won't be anything left of the country I once loved. I am genuinely afraid where we are headed and the worst part is, there isn't a thing I can do about it.
- eastwood24, on 07/08/2009, -4/+151It's all just history repeating I guess:
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."
-Thomas Jefferson - dafragsta, on 07/08/2009, -14/+157This is one duplicate I'll digg twice. ***** that this isn't a leading story on CNN. Oh wait, it is believable. It's just unacceptable.

- theaceoffire, on 07/08/2009, -2/+80I second this! Why must we learn things like `facts` and understand our opponents `opinions`?
Every time someone disagrees with me, I just punch them with a trout! That is how I won the "Earth is donut shaped" argument! - Waiting2awake, on 07/07/2009, -6/+80With respect, you mean continue on her knees. You are kidding yourself if you think the US is living up to its potential. She is being held back to keep the profit within the accepted sphere of power.
- 1x253, on 07/08/2009, -1/+74Not true! Call your US Senators and HOUND them. Senators are a self-interested type; they want to get re-elected. Call them now:

Congratulations on being so young and so interested in your country's fate. We need more of your kind! - inactive, on 07/08/2009, -22/+93In a fit of hypocrisy, President Barack Obama called Tuesday for more transparency and rule of law if the United States and Russia are to boost economic ties.

DeMint amendment to audit the Federal Reserve blocked by Senate Leadership - drmangrum, on 07/08/2009, -4/+68To build on what richard said:
Digg is largely Democrat, or at least extremely Liberal. There is nothing wrong with that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and point-of-view. The problem is that some of them are so aggressively Democrat or Liberal that they think their party and ideology can do no wrong and that Republicans and Conservatives can do no right.
That is a dangerous thing. You end up in a situation like we are now where Democrats, especially the crooked ones, are able to push just about anything they want through the process. Like DeMint pointed out in his speech, the Democrats in power at the moment are more than willing to repeatedly break a rule when it suits their interests, but hide behind that rule when it doesn't.
He called Senator Nelson out for the snake in the grass that he is. I hope he has to deal with a tidal wave of backlash when Nebraskans see this. - kspanks04, on 07/08/2009, -12/+74You sir are the first one to say the words 'Republican' & 'Democrat' here.
- khail250, on 07/08/2009, -4/+66Should just say-------> "First comment buried to hell"
- cdstrawn, on 07/08/2009, -2/+58It's 90% of politicians that make the other 10% look bad regardless of party.
- LinuxPerson, on 07/08/2009, -2/+55So why then was there no issue with the other GAO audits in the bill which were also legislation? Again, it seems that you still are having problems understanding the facts... RTFA.
From C4L blog:
"After Senator DeMint brought Audit the Fed to the floor, Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska raised a "point of order" to prevent a vote, claiming that the amendment violated Senate Rule 16 by "legislating" on an appropriations bill. The Senate president agreed, and the amendment was shot down.
Senator DeMint did not back down, though, and directly challenged Senate leadership by pointing out the other GAO audits contained in the bill. As Senator DeMint listed them off, the Senate president was forced to agree with Senator DeMint that each one he described, all of which would be left in for final passage, also violated Senate Rule 16.
So the issue wasn't about "legislating" on the bill or violating the Senate Rules (which is commonly done), it was about preventing a thorough audit of the Federal Reserve for the first time in its history!" - atomheartmother, on 07/08/2009, -13/+66I notice the Ron Paul bashers don't have much to say here.
- drmangrum, on 07/08/2009, -3/+55This is something that I've been screaming for ages. Nothing infuriates me more than when I see dyed-in-the-wool Democrats attempt to brand all Republicans as religious, conniving, anti-education, and disconnected. Of course, on the flip side we have Republicans throwing names and labels at Democrats too.
There is nothing worse in politics than allegiance to a party or to a politician. You allegiance should be with the people and the country. Parties can change doctrine and SOP. Politicians can cut the legs out from under you in a heartbeat. - BeforeSputnik, on 07/08/2009, -2/+50I thought the (D) next to his name stood for Douchebag.

- richardweaver, on 07/08/2009, -6/+52Yes, you are correct. My statement was not specifically aimed at this story but in general, as most diggers are hard core Democrats, as has been shown time and time again.

- poprocksandsoda, on 07/08/2009, -13/+57Transparency.
- feebes, on 07/08/2009, -37/+81Think about this for a minute. Obama wants to grant new and unparalleled powers to FED to monitor and regulate the economy even more than they do currently.
Why is this? Simple, its exactly this lack of transparency that makes it so appealing. Typically Obama has to go through the wide-open legislative process when he wants to use government power to seize a business or pass money to an industry or project. With the FED no transparency is necessary and Obama is realizing how powerful it would be to not have oversight from the citizens who's money he's playing with. - anthropodeus, on 07/08/2009, -4/+43jefferson was a ***** prophet
- eastwood24, on 07/08/2009, -6/+45You can't hear b/c your head is buried in the sand.
- OiPunk, on 07/08/2009, -4/+41You know, I don't see ANY talking points in the original post, so you can pretty much shove it. I'm hardly conservative/GOP/right wing but I wholeheartedly agree with him. No, I'm not democrat/left wing either--I'm just an American citizen who can see that both parties are different sides of the same corrupt coin.
The two-party system has failed, and it worries me--and if it doesn't worry you, you're a lost cause. - squashpup, on 07/08/2009, -57/+92The Democrats are the party of BIG MONEY. No audit for the Federal Reserve, but TAX your health care benefits and SPEND a second Stimulus!!!
HOPE AND CHANGE!!!! - mikewashere05, on 07/08/2009, -7/+42I sent this to Senator DeMint and also to Nelson. Unfortunately I had to use their stupid online form.
Senator,
I've just finished watching your well articulated stance on the majority's block of the federal bank audit amendment. I'd like to take a minute out of my day to email you and thank you for your service in this topic. Transparency is the supreme principle of a government by the people; however it seems it is now "by the taxpayers."
Although I'm registered independent I hold mostly libertarian views. However my allegiance is to no party or politician, it is to ideas and values. While I can not agree with you on every stance you hold, I am fully behind you here. Shame on Senator Nelson and the majority for using procedure to advance their socialistic agenda when convenient, and hiding behind it when the people demand transparency. He will be receiving a copy of this email.
Thank you, keep fighting the good fight. - DankBuddz, on 07/08/2009, -3/+36Its good to see someone can still decipher sarcasm when one forgets to deploy the '/s' tag.
- Hrodrik, on 07/08/2009, -2/+35I still cannot comprehend the attraction with being the first posting in any thread. It's just retarded.
- TheNik, on 07/08/2009, -1/+33You're only 24. I'm not so sure you were even alive when this country was great, so really it shouldn't come as a shock. This whole planet is going to hell in a hand-basket.
- HubrisDeadPan, on 07/08/2009, -2/+34Power doesn't corrupt. It draws the corrupted.
- AresDiggs, on 07/08/2009, -1/+33You're a dumbass! Normally I would explain how you're wrong - but you're one of those people that will never understand so I will not even try....
- reefrmad, on 07/08/2009, -1/+31"Do the American people not deserve to know what their central bank that deals with trillions of dollars is doing?"
From a leader / politician point of view: No. Absolutely not.
From a historical Republic of the People point of view: Yes.
I remember an interview I listened to with Gore Vidal when he had ambitions to run for the Senate. His buddy was shocked that he would try, since he would have to raise 20K per month to be allowed to run again in the following election. How do you get that money, I wonder?
I am going to look for this interview, and if I find it, I will link it so hot it will be... hot.
EDIT- Found it!
http://www.leftbusinessobserver.com/VidalTranscrip ...
H You ran for Congress many decades ago. Would you recommend that
strategy to anyone else?
V No, not today. You have to be a born mendicant, that is, beggar, to
go in for Federal office. It costs too much. I went in to a Democratic
primary for Senate in California about fifteen years ago, just to see
what was going on. And a rather nice guy, senator from California, said
to me, "You know, what do you want to do this for?" He was one of the
good guys. And I said, well, I want to see what's going on, and by
entering the race I can at least change the dialogue. I can bring up
issues, and the papers have to cover you, that other people won't talk
about, and so from that point of view I'd enjoy that.
But get this: he said to me, "You realize," he said, this is his own
experience, and he was not a rich man, nor was he owned by rich men, he
said, "When I was elected, to a six year term, if you want to be
re-elected six years later, you must raise ten thousand dollars a week
for all six years of your first term." Well, how do you do that without
selling your ass? So, I don't advise it for anybody unless you are in
the prostitute business, or unless you like begging, there are some
people who really like going around asking for money. Not I. - airwalkery2k, on 07/08/2009, -11/+41As a Nebraskan, I can tell you that the (D) next to Ben Nelson's name is nothing more than formality.
- silentboom, on 07/08/2009, -1/+31The actions of the Fed who has a monopoly on the creation of money is the single most important issue in America. You can change a country from free to despotic simply by manipulating money and credit. You can also transfer their sovereignty by these methods. Wake up.
- foohookups311, on 07/08/2009, -4/+33WHERE THE ***** IS THE TRANSPARENCY OBAMA PROMISED US?!?!?!?!!?!
- TheDougem, on 07/08/2009, -2/+31The media continues to give Obama a pass. Just like they gave Pelosi a pass when she claimed that she would lead the cleanest congress in history.
