- paradisetonight, on 10/11/2008, -32/+1228this shows how retarded racists are, that head garment, called a Dastar, is worn by Sikhs which is a religion other than Islam that consists of mostly Indians, which is not Arab! So by putting that on his head, they discredited their whole point.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dastar - paintgrl, on 10/11/2008, -51/+826Wow what can you say about this. It is horrible.
- anonblog2008, on 10/12/2008, -37/+417The sign is in West Plains, Missouri, which has a population about the size of Wasilla, Alaska. I seem to recall a "hockey mom" maverick recently saying during a RNC convention, "We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty, sincerity, and dignity." The @sshole who made this sign must be one of Palin's "good people".
- eliot2000, on 10/12/2008, -10/+351I live near this, and it embarrasses me as a resident, as well as a human being. The person who put this up,
Ronnie Ford, of West Plains MO,
is only succeeding in reinforcing negative stereotypes of our area. I guess he told the local media he owns the land and the sign, but doesn't know who put the message on the sign. You know how it is when you own a billboard, with all the people always climbing up there and spending hours in broad daylight without your knowledge hanging up a sign for all to see. The vandal in this case was especially clever because he managed to fool neighbors into thinking they saw Ford himself hanging up the sign. I wonder how long before he takes it down, since it's unauthorized and all.
Seriously though, if you're ashamed enough of your statement to lie about making it, that's pretty sad. - inactive, on 10/12/2008, -4/+270You're expecting far too much from idiots who put that up AND their intended audience.
- MakanGuru, on 10/12/2008, -6/+271so correct me if i am wrong,
this billboard is implying that Obama is an Arab/Muslim terrorist who is FOR gun control? - HopeMonger, on 10/11/2008, -129/+368McCain = Lies
- infodoc1, on 10/12/2008, -32/+237When people look back on this anti-Obama paranoia 100 years from now, it will look as ridiculous as the Salem Witch Trials, or 1950's McCarthyism. These are the seeds that are sown by the politics of fear and ignorance.
- novenator, on 10/11/2008, -15/+181The sign is located at West Plains, Missouri - FTA.
A comment in the article was wise enough to post the old racist tojo picture from WWII:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/headovmetal/175984778 ... - algaeturd, on 10/12/2008, -25/+179Joe Six Pack = lowest common denominator of American. Hateful, uneducated, full of bile, anger and bitterness even though THEIR choice of president has brought this country to its knees. These people don't understand even the most basic of concepts in regard to government. And McCain has the balls to try to rile this army of gorillas up and stoke the fires of hatred?
I would say shame on McCain and Palin but they have no shame. No honor, no taste, no kindness...just hate, hypocrisy and bile. - ElectroOverlord, on 10/12/2008, -14/+132Free Speech does not equal smart speech!
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -19/+126Wow, I've read a lot of stories recently about racism...but this is over the ***** top. I bet it's a private sign in some old redneck's yard close to a highway. There's one in WA state on the I-5 corridor that puts up ***** like this all the time. But it's about 20x bigger.
http://seattlest.com/attachments/seattle_dan/DSC02 ... - chrisb7, on 10/12/2008, -5/+105It's almost to be expected in a country where "Muslim" is a dirty word.
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -19/+106Stop watching Faux Noise and read a book or something, you simpleminded prick!
- CarStan, on 10/12/2008, -1/+85not to mention gay marriages and abortions.
I dont think Osama and his friends would encourage that - inactive, on 10/12/2008, -4/+87they show obama as a muslim!, and then write he supports abortion and same-sex marrages( the exact things which the muslims oppose)
DUMB ASSES! - inactive, on 10/12/2008, -2/+85This reminded me of a now-forgotten story... a few days after 9/11 a good old boy walked into a gas station, and shot the brown-skinned owner behind the counter. The poor guy was Sikh, not Arab, and needless to say had nothing to do with terrorism. Even when he was told this, the shooter said "I'm a patriot".
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2003-09-30-sik ... - flip2trip, on 10/12/2008, -23/+92McCain? Who said McCain had anything to do with this?
- rogue780, on 10/12/2008, -15/+76McCain != the person who put this up.
- zyce, on 10/12/2008, -11/+72That's the welcome to Alabama sign... STILL?
- Mononuclear, on 10/12/2008, -5/+64Obama is going to cut taxes, he is against gay marriage but for civil unions (same as McCain), and I haven't heard anything about any gun regulation he is planning.
So what exactly is true about it? The abortions part? They spelled his name right? - AManWithNoName, on 10/12/2008, -2/+60Sadly, the sort of people who would actually be swayed by this sign wouldn't really care about that fact. So unfortunately, it may still have an effect.
- pyrobaby, on 10/12/2008, -0/+57Obama: Worst. Muslim. Ever.
- Christo88, on 10/12/2008, -21/+78Attention internet: Obviously this isn't a good representation of Missouri. There are plenty of sane people here too.
- katagana, on 10/12/2008, -13/+67The racism is what gets me, because it is a sneaky type of racism.. like a lot of anti-obama supporters calling him "Barack Hussain Obama" with emphasis on Hussain. And when confronted with that they say: "That is just his name, is he ashamed by his name now?". With this they act like they are washing their hands of racism, but tell me this, why don't you call McCain out by his name then? JOHN SIDNEY MCCAIN the 3RD!
- AntoniusMaximus, on 10/12/2008, -3/+56As many of you probably know, we have a lot of right wing influence here in Europe. Heck, in Belgium and Austria, entire cities are very xenophobic. But this... this! I have never seen this kind of -large- -public- billboard anywhere but in old nazi propaganda. Paradisetonight's post underlines the extreme ignorance and generalisation of this advertisement, and I'm afraid too many nutcases will be bolstered by the sight of it.
It's saddening to see this happen in the country that inspired many of our democratic processes. Just when I think the government can't stoop any lower, some other unbelievable scandal pops up and I have to review my entire perspective.
Another irony is that American citizens would probably have the easiest time taking up arms and toppling their own regime in comparison to other countries where guns are severely controlled... and yet... - idesign, on 10/12/2008, -7/+59Barack is not Muslim. He does not wear a turban. This sign is obviously playing to people who fear other races and religions and is associating Obama with those fears. That is racism.
- nebbyneb, on 10/12/2008, -1/+50Even if he was a Muslim - so what?
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 10/12/2008, -13/+62So if it's the truth then why did your own candidate have to reign you nut jobs in?
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/McCain_booed_aft ...
The billboard would have been more effective (not to mention tasteful) if it left off the "Hussein" and the stupid picture and just focused on issues (Oh, and corrected "gay marriages" to read "same sex civil unions). If your own candidate doesn't think Obama's a Muslim then who are you to argue it? - honeymustardn, on 10/12/2008, -7/+55Entirely true? Since when did Obama wear a dastar? Try harder next time.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2008, -1/+41DigPiglet: "Yes, why would they think that!?!"
OMG, by that logic Bush is Chinese! http://www.olddirtyblog.org/uploaded_images/bush%2 ...
And Hillary Clinton is Muslim too! http://lh3.ggpht.com/mesmilingdolphin/R8L3Pb2r15I/ ...
As is Laura Bush: http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2005-05/2 ...
And Bush is a...well, I'm not sure WTF this dress makes him (a gay sorcerer?): http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www. ...
Politicians dress up in foreign garb all the time you idiot. - Pimptastic, on 10/12/2008, -7/+46wait, gay marriage, wouldn't that be a proactive step to prevent abortions?
In all seriousness this is shameful politics by this individual. these are the ass holes that are spreading this fear and outright lies that are fueling the less informed voters. Attacking a canidate on issues is one thing. Being a douchebag about it is another.
It really is a pain in the ass being a conservative with dumb ***** like this. - webwatch, on 10/11/2008, -3/+42This is just another example. There was Obama Waffles before this, sold at the Values Voter summit. http://news.yahoo.com/s//ap/20080913/ap_on_el_pr/o ...
- cg4et, on 10/12/2008, -36/+71More of the same. Not the change we need.
- Phalanxia, on 10/12/2008, -4/+39Pure pwnage. And for the record, Obama's father was an atheist, not a Muslim.
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 10/12/2008, -5/+40While it's tempting, actually doing something like that would sink you down to their level. Plus it's hard to claim that you support free speech when you do something that interferes with someone else's free (albeit retarded) speech. As for me - were I a man of less scruples and integrity, I'd round up a bunch of my paintball buddies and redecorate the billboard. But that would be wrong. (snicker)
- Ghengis, on 10/12/2008, -3/+37When California legalized same-sex marriages, and people got outraged, Neil Boortz (on his radio show) asked for ANYONE who's been harmed by two gay people getting married to call in and explain exactly how it happened. He also asked one caller who was irate about homosexuality in general to describe the moment in his childhood or adolescence when he (the caller) decided to be straight. Priceless.
- Lionhart, on 10/12/2008, -4/+38I'm really sick of that ***** myself. Everyone's arguing over these ***** rumors claiming that Obama is a Muslim... but I say, even if he was who gives a *****? This country has freedom of religion and people can believe in whatever they want to believe in without fear of persecution. It's these backwards ignorant people that are just so damn afraid of an entire group of people because of the exploits of a few of them. And purely and simply, that is racism.
- sneaker98, on 10/12/2008, -5/+39*****, Coolkid. You don't have to drop the N-bomb to be a racist bastard.
- searcade, on 10/12/2008, -5/+39If i lived in america, and wherever you lived i would get a couple of friends a burn that ***** down
or at least pay a few kids - Zenham, on 10/12/2008, -5/+37Jesus DigPig, are you really that goddamn stupid?
Quit drinking the ***** soup someone handed you and sart reading and, more importantly, THINKING for yourself. - an0nymous, on 10/12/2008, -0/+31People have a right to say what they want to say.
Just as we have a right to mock them for being racist dicks. - bklny, on 10/12/2008, -9/+40Mcsame and moosalini bring out the worst in people .
- linagee, on 10/12/2008, -9/+40I say let the free speech of my torch hit that signboard.
- TheMachine1, on 10/12/2008, -5/+35Biden mentioned during the VP debate that he and Obama did not support same sex marriage but did support given couples basic legal rights like the ability to visit in a hospital, etc.
- TheMachine1, on 10/12/2008, -3/+33The hat that tries to identify him as a foreign ethnic group.
- jhbarr, on 10/12/2008, -1/+30Fine, bigoted. Is that better.
- GlassAgate, on 10/12/2008, -12/+41Can anyone explain the harm of same sex marriages? Even one?
Why should the country prevent two people, who love each other,
from getting married? - inactive, on 10/12/2008, -37/+66Thanks Palin!
- lamiaconfitor, on 10/12/2008, -0/+28The voters who would be swayed by this garbage have already made up their minds.
